I love my Moto X! (Auto Awesome pictures, moves, and now storytelling feature) - Moto X General

My Moto X rocks! This thing just WORKS! The latest amazing feature it the auto-awesome program started making "Books", and the movies tell a story! Totally cool! My wife is so Jealous! She wants this feature so bad but just can't have it because she is a Samsung junkie (Gear fit, S4), and I don't care! hahahaha!
Anyway, just had to share about this newest feature! Here is a link to the latest story on my google plus account: https://plus.google.com/u/0/108006233391231479849/stories/79e35a6c-cc00-3ed3-b9bf-e9cc238f0af7146b816ae5d

Just don't tell your wife.

I appreciate your positive feedback on Moto X and hey congrats on buying your new device, but we certainly do not need a thread like this which will be more like a feedback thread for a device which is already 10 months old So this thread is closed, good luck on your journey with Moto X :good:

This may be my last contribution to the xperia play section of XDA as i will be getting a nexus 4 soon and therefore be selling my xplay. and moving on.
Well, this are really bad news for us, a lot of good people from this forum are moving to another devices. I hope your stay here was nice and that your stay in the nexus 4 forum will be as good as in play forum or better. Finally I would like to thank you for all your hard work you have done for the Xperia Play, goodbye and remember that if you want to come back here you will be good received

I'm in the same situation. I will get a Nexus 4 (or 5) very soon because besides Jelly bean, i dont think Xperia Play can get any further. Jelly Bean will be last Android i will use on Xperia Play
In my case maybe I will wait till may or until the nexus 5 comes out, because I want a new phone, but I love my play too much, and that's a big problem for buying a new one
Enviado desde mi Xperia Play
I would get a nexus 5 but....
1. there is no confirmed specification
2. no confirmed release date any where
3. no confirmed release date in uk
4. seems over powered and doesn't need so much power
5. battery life is probably not going to be as good
6. the screen seems a bit big
7. it will be more expensive

sad to hear that..i may buy also a new phone..a xperia S or P probaly..one of the devices Doomlord and another great devs have..so i have a feeling that phones can be so much better..but i will keep my xperia play for sure..and i said it before, on normal use with a custom rom you dont see much difference..just new phones have many more features and performance..but gaming without gamepad/touchpad for me its hard..im not a touchscreen fan for gaming.

Slimkat for moto g.

I and many other moto g users will be glad to see slimkat for our phone.
+1
It may not be coming guys...
I asked this very same question on the Slimroms forums, and this is administrator Nebucatnetzer's answer:
About making Slim for the Moto G or any other device. We currently don't have that much man power left. I reckon someone from the team doesn't get one for himself then the chances aren't very good that we'll make a version for it.
I wouldn't get my hopes too high up guys, although I'd LOVE to see it appear for our MotoG!
If you want it so much you could start a whipround and collect enough money to buy the team one, they do this for free so it's not really down to them to buy phones to develop for
I wasn't throwing my toys out of the pram either. I asked them a question, I got an answer. Whether I like said answer or not makes no difference as they made it clear that this specific phone isn't in the plans.
Moto g got unofficial slimkat.

'Google to sell Motorola to Lenovo'

Breaking story on The Verge
Google is reportedly nearing a deal to sell Motorola's phone division to Lenovo, a move that would give the Chinese smartphone manufacturer a major presence in the US smartphone market. News of the potential acquisition comes from both Reuters and China Daily, with the latter reporting that the acquisition could be announced as soon as Thursday morning in Beijing — just a matter of hours from now. Reuters reports that the deal is worth close to $3 billion, a number corroborated by China Daily's report over a deal worth over $2 billion.
Google originally bought Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion, but said at the time that it was mainly interested in its patent portfolio. Now, it appears that Google is offloading its handset business, which has been losing hundreds of millions each quarter since the purchase. Reuters reports that Lenovo's purchase will include some patents, though it appears that the acquisition focuses primarily on devices, such as the Moto X and Moto G.

We will have to see what it means for the Motorola leadership team. I'm not ready to give up but I have serious concerns about what this means. Lenovo couldn't make mobility work on their own...

Yes it is confirmed (http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/29/lenovo-nearing-3-billion-deal-for-motorola/)... And I'm not happy at all as Moto G customer!

Why? I will not make any difference to the Moto G. Motorola has been operating independently from Google since Google bought them.

Dennis Woodside and all management will stay with Motorola, so I doubt we will see too many changes to Motorola.
Im pretty sure this is not bad at all, Lenovo will let Motorola work as an independent company like google did, after all Motorola has its own "fans" and has regained a lot of attention last year...
I would even go the extra mile to say that Lenovo would help a lot more than Google, after all Google barely even touched Motorola...

I think that as not everyone got a GPE we will not see fast updates (or even any updates) for current devices. I don't know... I hope the future will tell otherwise!
I am worried that the way Lenovo is going to try to get their return on investment for this acquisition is not going to be very fruitful for Motorola's current and future customer base.
Let's just hope that there'll be at least some support for the Motor G into android versions beyond kitkat...
I hope that Lenovo will allow Motorola to be a independent company like when Google owned it and just use Motorola for their patents, to support future Lenovo products such as Tablets.

CM11 is going further!

Cheers!
CyanogenMod Team just announced a change in it's repository for the latest Motorola devices: they use the same base repository.
What does it means? We have tons more of CM11 contributors for the Moto X!
As you can check in the article below, there are various kinds of Moto devices that will be sharing the same repository.
For you, whom checked lots of times the http://download.cyanogenmod.org/ for a new nightly and there was nothing, only some old test builds, there is a new nightly build for testing under the codename moto_msm8960dt. And you can check the latest changelog in http://www.cmxlog.com/11/moto_msm8960dt/

Thank you, CyanogenMod Team, for all your efforts doing wonderful things to this set of devices and unleashing it's power!
And thanks, also, to all the developers and contributors present on XDA Developers Forum, whose are also part of this!

I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on CM11 on the MotoX., Personally, I enjoy a few features (Active Notifications, Flick to Camera, talking to the phone by saying "OK Google") which I don't believe are supported.
From reading other threads, a lot of people have said "Root and Xposed and GravityBox, and this is the best way to go", as opposed to throwing out the best features of the X for CM11.

Yes, I share my thoughts with you. I came from past-generation devcies which used to work better with custom ROMs. And now I'm using a Moto X, which is awesome by what it is. And those features are really awesome for me. I'm actually using the stock ROM rooted with Xposed and GravityBox, like you mentioned, and I feel complete.
But, I also agree that all development is always welcome. Today we have a great community, that is always talking about this device, and providing information about how to use it better. TODAY we don't need much development at all for Moto X, but someday we may need!
I think the main point in my thread to be seen, may not be the fact of "Moto X is being developed by CM again", but, maybe, the repository sharing with other devices. It means that many devices has hardware so similar that it could be joined into one! And it also may mean that Moto X developers now have help from other devices' developers, because they all are working over "the same hardware".
I don't think we'll have much gain in short term, but in a long term it may mean something! Not only for Moto X, but for many other Motorola devices!
Once I discovered gravity box I no longer see why you would install cm on a nexus or near - stock device. I ran cm forever on my samsung phones but I can't justify running it on my x. Now that I know about gravity box I'll be going back to stock on my nexus 7 as well whenever I have time.
I love the project and the contributors do great work. I'll definitely check it out If I end up on a tw or sense device in the future.

Ah you know what? You're exactly right. I'm still in the mindset of how quickly we got the 4.4 update, and wasn't thinking long-term if this becomes an unsupported Lenovo device. Having a merged codeset for other Motorola devices will be great, especially 1 year from now.
Another thought though: I got my phone for $300. I'm having trouble thinking that I'd spend more than that again. I'm hoping that phones like the Moto X and G (along with the Nexus 5) have put enough pressure to keep prices coming down. If they stay low, I'm willing to spend $300 per year to get a new phone, and so I'm not as worried about long-term support dropping.

Gravity Box isn't going to delivered the same performance as CM11 which is very fast on the Moto X. But it's a no go for me since I need touchless control. Some custom roms like AOKP and SlimRoms have Active Display which is better and more features than Moto version, but I'm not sure they will utilize it to use low power on the Moto X.

Anything faster than a stock Moto x, either an X with a rom, or even another phone, will be micro seconds faster. I've played with an N5 that was tweaked for performance and I gotta say....you're talking a very small noticeable difference. Very small.
For me personally now on any further phone purchases, performance won't even be a consideration. The top phones today are frigging fast. And the difference between most of them is too small for me to care. LOL
That's just my take on it anyway. I think phones have pretty well maxed out speed. Now it's time for manufacturers to work on battery life, screens, cameras, etc. Actual noticeable speed differences will step up very slowly now.

No it's a noticeable difference, But I used Android since the beginning, some people notice minute changes more than other. I notice big difference between ART and Dalvik.

As I said....to me the difference is so small....its not a concern. Life isn't so short I need to compare things in milliseconds. I can spare a fraction of a second here and there.
Overall...to me....fast is fast. Instant is instant. I click any app on my x....its open in an instant. Just like an N5.

Resurrection remix rom?

Just wondering if any of the devs is putting together a resurrection remix rom for the Moto x pure/style 2015? Sure would love to see it since I've been able to get it on all my other devices
Would love to also see this, would be willing to donate !

I def would too! I was looking at the nexus 6 thread last night and was amazed at the amount of custom rom support it got! This is basically just a newer nexus and I'm shocked at how this phone has gotten very little attention from the devs. On my note 3 it seems like there is a new one everyday still. My moto e 2015 and moto g 2014 has way more custom roms to choose from also. It just seems like it would be the opposite but guess not in this case.
