Porting WhatsApp chats - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For anyone trying to port existing WhatsApp chats from their old phone to their new S5, there's the easy way, and the hard way.
The easy way is to backup the chats on the old phone, install WhatsApp on the S5, and restore from the backup. I'd fill in the obvious blanks if I'd followed this route. I didn't.
Long story short, I installed WhatsApp on my S5, which disabled WhatsApp on the old phone (DROID RAZR MAXX). The workaround for a broken WhatsApp on the old phone isn't for people without some sense of how Android file structure and file transfers work (explaining that is outside of the scope of this note). Anyway...
I used Bluetooth File Transfer because I have it on both phones.
Uninstall WhatsApp and all data from the S5, or don't install it now
Copy /storage/sdcard0/WhatsApp
Paste the copied folder in the S5's /storage/emulated/0/
Install WhatsApp on the S5 and validate WhatsApp with the correct phone number.
WhatsApp will offer to restore old data. Do the restore.
WhatsApp should now have all of the chats, etc. from the old phone
It ain't pretty, but it works.

Backup iPhone contact to PC

As a high-tech fan, I bought the newest model of iPhone. So I have to transfer the contact of the old iPhone into computer files , then pick some of them to add to the new one.But I was truly confused how to transfer its contact into computer files. Luckily, I found it -----Tansee iPhone Transfer Contact.
With it, I can transfer the backup iPhone memory to a file, only exporting two types of file format((Antc file, Text file), which is intelligible especially to girls. What’s more, the Antc file can even be encoded to ensure its security! All the files including the backup contact’s photos can be viewed full screen! How amazing! It’s really useful for iPhone users like you and me!

Why not use iTunes or iCloud?
Your cydia installed stuff won't be backed up, you need to download either aptbackup or xbackup. These apps will backup cydia tweaks. After installed, you have to run the program the program and backup your cydia stuff. Then, if you have to restore your phone and want to re-jailbreak it, you install this program again after you jb it and restore it and it will re-install your jb tweaks. Cracked apps are a whole different story.
Back up iPhone Contacts
It seems like that FonePaw iOS Transfer is one of the most useful way to back up your iPhone Contacts. You can give it a try.
By saving your contacts to the computer, you can get them back if you accidentally delete them. Feel free to use it to back up iPhone contacts. Besides, music, playlist, photos, videos, messages, etc are all transfer between iPhone and computer freely with the help of this software.

New Guy here

Hey everyone, I'm considering coming from a samsung Vibrant to this, because I like the screen size, camera flash, and Android seems to be stable (super ram froyo) but I have a couple of questions
Will I be able to restore my text, and call logs via mybackuppro, and retrieve my contacts via the google account? I was also wondering if it's worth coming from a vibrant to an hd2? Just need some help, or advice.
Also could I restore some apps on the hd2 from the vibrant using Titanium backup?
-Sorry if I posted in the wrong place.
Thanks everyone who helps!
I've used both and prefer the hd2 but you might need to experiment with the builds.
There are apps to back up your sms and google contacts will automatically transfer with your account.
Sent from my HTC HD2 Android
To backup apps just use titanium backup and select batch and then all user apps.
To backup SMS download SMS backup and restore from the market.
If you've got a Google account, try logging into your gmail account from a computer then go to people and check I'd your contacts are saved. if they are then they will auto sync with any other phone you use.
Hope this helped.
Okay I was just making sure, I always use T-backup for apps, and mybackup pro for sms.
Is everything the same such as putting things in folders, and the phone being able to read it? And another big factor is GPS, does that work?
Gps works, but takes a little bit longer to get a lock sometimes (still quite usable)
And T-Mobile backup works too, just like on any Android phone. As far as backin up n restoring with Titanium, just batch backup apps n data, then transfer the Titanium Backup folder from your current sd card to your HD2's sd card, get Titanium from market, n batch restore
I highly recommend the HD2, its like 2 yrs old, n still just about the baddest phone on the block
Sent from my... whatever
Awesome Thank you, I'll pm you if I have more questions if thats cool?
Ps: The hd2 i'm trading for has miui rom on it, have you tried it, is it stable? Or which build do you prefer?

How can I import all my contacts, messages, data etc to this phone from older phone?

I have a rooted and S-off HTC One. I want to keep practically all my data, dont care about the apps etc I guess I can get that all back manually but if there is a way to transfer that also thatll be great. Anyway I want to backup my contacts, text messages, videos, photos you name it. Is there a tool or handy app/s out there that I can get that can do all this and somehow transfer it to the Samsung S7 Edge that is unlocked? Im not going to attempt rooting and s-offing this phone it seems way too complicated.
There many apps on the Google Play to backup/restore sms, contacts, call logs onto different phones.
Document and picture files could be copied from the old phone to a PC or memory card.
There is also a Samsung app that is designed to transfer many things from a (non) Samsung phone to a Samsung one:

Nice, thanks for the link to the app. Seems handy

+1. Works great.
Thanks guys. I didn't feel like paying for migrating a bunch of texts so decided to start clean. Had transfered my media already.
Thanks for your help!
I just got the Galaxy S8+ and this device is stunning.
I transferred my WhatsApp chats and media files from my old iPhone to new Samsung Galaxy S8+ by following these instructions. You need to pay $19 If you want to transfer more than 20 chats from a single contact in one shot, but unfortunately I couldn't find any free tool/app that can transfer my Whatsapp chats to my Galaxy S8. Thankfully, it didn't ask me to root my device and the whole process was quite easy.

On iPhone, WhatsApp back up the chats in iCloud, no Google Drive.
In fact, cross platform chat backup restores are not possible.

I completely agree. Samsung does provide Smart Switch which you can use to transfer your important stuff like contacts, text messages, photos, etc. If your WhatsApp conversations are so much important for you then I guess you can use third-party tools ( http://www.iphone-to-pc.com/transfer-whatsapp-messages-media-files-iphone-to-samsung-galaxy-s8.html ) to transfer WhatsApp chat history from iPhone to your Samsung Galaxy S8. Most of them are paid. Personally, I delete my WhatsApp/WeChat chat history on a regular basis so I don't really care if I can migrate my chat history or not.
Cross-platform WhatsApp chat history transfer is not complicated with the help of third-party tool.
Recommend your try this software to transfer WhatsApp content from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy S8.
Whatsapp has a build in backupfunction with google accounts, right? Should work cross platforms
I found that WhatsApp messages and media can transfer by email. But it is only allowed to get the text WhatsApp messages instead of showing them in WhatsApp chats. Finally, I use the FORecovery WhatsApp Transfer tool to help me, which supports to transfer WhatsApp messages between different devices. Maybe it can do a favor for you as well.

Transfer WhatsApp from iPhone to oneplus5

Hey
I was looking for a simple way to import all my WhatsApp data from iPhone to the new oneplus 5 and just can't find something. Does anyone knows how I can do that ?
Thanks !
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am not an iPhone user, so what i say is only theory.
If you backup on icloud and the file/folder structure for the backup is the same as is on android, you could just paste the whatsapp directory into your root android folder and then install whatsapp.
Alternatively, if you have access to the whatsapp folder you could just copy that to your computer and then move it to the oneplus 5.
On Android phones , to migrate whatsapp i simply copy the whatsapp folder after making a current backup on the source phone, moving it to the destination phone and then install whatsapp. it is able to restore all data and media.
Good luck!

Have a look on the comments in there - it's a scam. They tell you to backup to iCloud then delete(!!!!) the app on iPhone (==removing all messages fro the phone) and then magically they say that the android phone will be able to get the backup from iCloud.
In reality they want you to buy the product because it is capable of restoring the messages somehow(which you just deleted them)

thanks, didn't read the comments.
the whole whatsapp iphone to android thing seems to be complicated in general as of reddit. The reddit post/comments show a few solutions though.
Use Wazzap Migrator. I used it like 4-5 years ago when I switched from iOS to Android. Works like a charm.
Code:
https://www.wazzapmigrator.com"
Used iBackup Viewer to extract the ChatStorage.sqlite file from an iPhone Backup I made and Wazzapmigrator to restore it on my phone, did cost me like 3 bucks but worked really well!
Updating that I used wazzzap migrator. I needed to create an iTunes backup then find a software which can extract data from the backup file (this the hard part) . The wazzzap worked like charm (very easy) though cost a few worth-the-money $ for chats and media as well.

ANSWER:
1. Log in and back up your data to Google Drive
2. Download the file from the apple account.
3. Rename the file to match the backup on the google drive account and upload it and "Over Write" it.
4. Re-sync your whats app.
** Just my 2cents.

Dear, you just need a tool of whatsapp transfer like Doctor Telephone iPhone Data Recovery, it has a option which can help you to resolve this problem. Good luck
I've never tried to do this but can't you just set up the in-app backup and let it backup to Whatsapp servers? Then one you install WhatsApp on the new device it should ask you to restore all backup data.
in short, whatsapp is crap. Use telegram instead with smarter people
Yeah, transfer data between iOS and Android is usually difficult for us. Luckily this dr.fone can help to transfer WhatsApp chat history from iPhone to Andorid, including the OnePlus 5.

Hi, up to now it is impossible to transfer whatsapp between iphone and android unless you use some third party software such as wazzapmigrator, dr fone whatsapp for whatsapp, itransor for whatsapp, etc. These software applications can let you transfer whatsapp messages from iphone to android but they are paid software. If you want to know how to operate specifically, you can search a post via google by typing "techtiertips whatsapp from iphone to android"
