has anyone tried towelroot on i9500 ? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just saw geohots rooting solution called towelroot... any of you guys out there tried it on a s4 i9500 ? how bout knox flag ?
currently running android 4.4.2.. let me know and thanks !

the Knox warranty void counter is that if you'll root your device, your Knox app will not work on your device.there is no possible way to reset the Knox counter as for now.You never get OTA updates, because your phone will turn Official status to Custom.triangle away will reset the flash counter, but it will not reset the Knox warranty void counter.

well I think you havent heard from geohots new rooting method, he claims to be able to root s5 and note 3 with the single installation of his application and pressing one single button. he even said when he tried it on his phone, knox counter was never tripped to 0x1. I was already aware of how knox worked and that there wasnt any rooting method that wont trip the knox flag. but as soon as I saw it on the forums, I went straight to ask if someone tested it on a i9500. so, anyone ?

Id like to know this, I get good deal from network, but have always debranded handset before flashing BTU firmware.
Curious about the knox counter also in this situtation.
I'm not sure either but i think official firmwares should be safe to flash.
It's modded or unsigned kernels/bootloaders that will cause the KNOX flag to trigger.
On the S4 flashing stock fw triggers off the knox counter...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45669402&postcount=4
But he repacked the FW with an older Kernel. Maybe that was the Problem.
I hope someone would test this

Does someone even use Knox? I prefere root over Knox!
I have a question about Knox...
I don't care if I trip the Knox counter to 0x1 because when I root I know I void my warranty.
My question is once rooted and the Knox counter is at 0x1 is there a way to get the phone in a state where it will receive OTA updates.

[SOLVED] Note 3 MJ5 Kingo Root Knox 0x0 Confirmation

Sorry for a repeat post, but I dont want to trip knox on my Note 3. I heard you can use the kingo app and not void your warranty (knox 0x0). Here are my specs:
AT&T Note 3 (SM-N900A) Locked BootLoader
Sim Unlocked
Firmware/Build: MJ5
So if I use kingo app and root will Knox be tripped?
Thanks for any help and sorry if its a repeat just want a 100% confirmation, before I do anything I may regret

The only time KNOX will be tripped is if you tamper with the kernel. Rooting does not affect the kernel and therefore does not trip KNOX.

well good news, root worked and knox is not tripped, but upon opening SuperSU it asked if I wanted to disable KNOX, I dont know the method it gets rid of knox, but will this also trip KNOX?
Thank You
Thank you to the two users who helped me with this, I simply just installed Xposed Framework and Wanam Exposed and blocked Knox notifications and set system status to "Official", now I can be FREE!
i used the kango no it says custom and there is a un locked lock ? knox triped ????
No Knox isn't tripped . Install xposed framework and the module xanam exposed and I think under one of the settings you can set to official instead of custom and it gets rid of the unlocked lock on boot. Just do a Google search if you need help installing . To see if you tripped Knox go into download mode by powering off and holding all three buttons at the same time, power, home and volume down and then a screen will appear and press volume up and you will see a list of things look for warranty bit, 0x0 is a valid warranty and 0x1 is a voided warranty. Hope it helps

May I downgrade only the frimware from MJ7 to MJ5 through odin (and keeping my knox 0x0) then root using kingo or other way who not trip the knox then using mobile odin pro to go back on MJ7 and keep root and 0x0 ?
From what I have read flashing or downgrading bootloader may be impossible or resulted in Knox tripping. I would recommend either waiting for another forum member or opening your own thread (if one doesn't already exist).

[Q] KNOX "Counter"

Hi guys, I have a Galaxy S4 I9505, and I've been reading for a while about KNOX "Counter". I want to root my S4, but I want to know if I root or unroot my KNOX Counter will increase from 0x0 to 0x1? And it is so, I can reset that Counter to 0x0? Because I don't want to lose my warranty.
Thanks in advance!
These are really basic question and have been asked a 1000 times already. If you really did read about Knox you would have find those basic anwsers. I don't think you have read much about Knox. There is a big thread here about Knox. You find your anwsers there.

Ya I think that your device gt i9505 support triangleaway so you can reset your flash counter.

samsung gt i9505 support triangle away, and reset counter.
But counter Knox, you can not reset.
just to clarify for you...."flash counter" is a counter that increases each time you flash a rom or whatever. the know 0x1 is a flag which doesn't continually increase, it will either be 0x0 meaning that it's a stock/official system, or it will be 0x1 meaning that the knox flag has been tripped because some part of the system has been modified (e.g. flashing custom rom or recovery, or rooting etc).
so if you want a totally official/full warranty guarantee, don't modify the device in anyway. if you've gone past your warranty date or just don't care about it then you can root/install custom roms kernels and recoveries, but this will likely trip the knox flag if you have the kitkat bootloader.

As you can see from the screenshot even atm I am using cm12.1 with TWRP recovery and it hasnt done anything to the counter. Heres another screenshot from Phone Info app. Now the since this app detects knox warranty void on models like s4, s5 and as far as I know s6, I highly doubt samsung went thru the trouble of putting some undetectable warranty counter and a mid range device such as our S3 neos.

I rooted mine the second day I got it (I got it somewhere around January). So far havent had any problems with it and the knox (if there is one) still says 0x0. That said rooting and flashing custom recovery is still something that may potentialy harm your device so its up to you to decide. Dont take my words as 100% proof everything will be ok. Yep! Your warranty will not be void as long as your device is running a stock rom when you turn it in. You can check your binary counter by going to download mode.

I'm not talking about Knox Counter but I'm talking about Binary Counter which every Samsung phone already have and keeps track of how many times a custom firmware had been flashed. And as far as Knox Security is concerned there is still no way to reset Knox counter but fortunately S3 NEO don't have it.

Consequences of tripping knox?

Hey,
I've heard that tripping knox might disable the ability to use Samsung Pay in the future.
Do you know any other consequences of tripping knox - like being unable to use the fingerprint scanner or updating OTA on stock rom?
Yes.....OTA will more than likely be broken.
If your employer asks you to bring your device to work, you won't be able to connect to their secure server network.
Samsung *are* using tripped knox to deny warranty repairs....even if the fault is hardware based and couldn't possibly have been caused by modified software. (Some users will say that they have had a repair with tripped knox, but that's down to nothing more than pure luck.....Samsung's official line is that tripping knox WILL void warranty)
There may be other effects from tripping knox that I don't know about....best to see if anybody else answers.
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg
The S5 won't have Samsung Pay. Not the way the S6 does it. It's missing the MST chip.
Might as well root.
OTA still works after tripping KNOX (Stops working once you root or flash anything custom but starts working again once you're back on stock), I haven't found anything that doesn't work, fingerprint and private mode etc all still work
Haven't used Samsung Pay, possible things like that might stop working, but I have my doubts it breaks anything other than warranty

Of course, that's how I update, I just flash back to stock, and OTA update, then root again
OTA only stops working if it sees you have modified the OS, such as root or adblocking etc, that's why I flash back to stock for the OTA
If you've never heard of a secure server network (also called a 'business enterprise' network) and your employer has never asked you to/will never ask you to bring your device to work, tripping knox is not an issue.....The main thing you have to consider is what if you need a warranty repair?.......

To put it very simply, if you had EVER tripped KNOX on the S5 (Can't speak for other devices) then 1000% you have never ever reset it from 0x1 back to 0x0, guaranteed
KNOX is a hardware eFuse yes, once it burns out, that's it, gone, forever on 0x1
Flashing stock does absolutely nothing to repair KNOX 0x1, nothing, so get that out of your head
Bricking your phone, and recovering it by flashing stock again, has no connection to KNOX 0x1 > 0x0
It's easy as pie to unbrick an S5, it's impossible to reset KNOX 0x1
In fact, last I heard, there was a substantial reward for anyone who managed to reset KNOX back to 0x0

I have tripped on the s4 variant repeatedly and reset the counter. And if there is a reward I deserve it. Because i have tripped the KNOX counter and reset as many other developers have. Here's a link to a great discussion on XDA about Locke and how to reset the counter if you're worried about your warranty. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738175
I am not arguing the validity of some efuse but I can make the software say 0x0 after 0x1.
