Ubuntu touch - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
is there any chance to install Ubuntu Touch on Galaxy Tab 4 7?
Or mayby Linux Deploy works?

Dude we haven't even got a recovery which will take months no to mention that which definitely take much longer
Sent from my SM-T230NU using XDA Free mobile app

Expect zero roms for the 7". And by zero I mean no cm, no aokp, no carbon, no nadda. Least not working ones. Touchwiz yeah. AOSP or even touch? Nope. Just ask the tab 3 7 inch guys that have a Marvell chip too

I was wondering the same thing. I guess you could always buy a nexus.

Great, now we have recovery.

Anyone able to build Ubuntu Mobile for Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10" SM-T530?
I saw a topic on AskUbuntu: Link.

Dual boot nexus 4

Soon we will start having cyanogenmod version for nexus 4 and at the beginning it will be unstable so I was wondering if any of you tried to install a dual boot on your nexus 4

Duel booting is very common on samsung phone s1,s2,s3 implemented into the kernel
but i haven't seen it on a nexus before.
Well Bootmanager lite is compatible with the previous nexuses
I have Boot Manager Pro, I will test it once I get my Nexus 4.
anybody try this yet?
Boot Manager Pro doesn't support Jellybean (yet).
so does anything work to dual boot yet?
There's a multiboot loader available for Nexus 7.
Maybe it will be ported to Nexus 4 some day...
is this possible on the nexus 4?

The creator will not do it because he does not have a nexus 4. So we have to do it ourselves, we can use his sources.
So how do we build it? are there instructions?

I wish I knew what I was doing to do something like this, but can anyone actually do this? If it is done for the nexus 7, I would imagine it should be able to be done for the 4?
I will begin trying to port this for the mako device next days, but I will have the Nexus 4 device in a few weeks only, so I would need some testers. Next weekendI'll post more details about my work if it goes well.
Adaptation of multirom

Thanks for giving your help. However I just grab sources from mako kernel and multiboot, didn't begin working on it yet, tomorrow I'll try. First step making kernel having kexec boot method.
Edit : have to dl linux and reinstall my bootloader, a upgrade of my windows made it go away. :s That's ironic, a broken dualboot on my PC prevents me to work on dualboot for the phone. Anyway will begin working on that this evening.
Please do update on this if you get it working. I would like to dual boot Ubuntu and my stock phone OS.

Of course, I'll ask a thread in the dev section when I'l need some testing. I don't promise any result, but think it will be easy to port, just need to spend some time. Will begin tonight.

A multi boot would definitely be nice but you should be able to backup and restore to previous Android as it keeps the custom recovery.
There's a how-to guide for porting on wiki.ubuntu if someone is capable of doing it:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Ooo this sounds very cool. I tried to read the wiki but my head almost exploded trying to understand the first bits. So I doubt I am the one to get it. lol!
Ok! According to Ubuntu post on nexus 10 forum they discovered that the Ubuntu touch is actually a Cm10.1 rom with Ubuntu over it and they say that porting is as simple as porting cm to other devices

Nougat Touchwiz roms

To the people who are going to port the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 to the Note 4. Please for the love of god do not integrate root in the ROMS so that we can use android pay and Pokemon go. Also leave instructions for us to customize the ROM from WIN-RAR so that we wont need to install root into our devices. Thank you
For the last time.. THE GALAXY NOTE 4 DOES NOT BECOME A NOUGAT UPDATE! You can NOT migrate 7.0 Firmeware to 6.0.1 if the hardware is different!

Im confused. If the Note 2 can get a port of Android N
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-0-n7100-t3487568
then how come the Note 4 wont get a ported Galaxy S8 or Note 8 ROM with Android N since they are porting them with Android M

Do not post request in the development threads please. You are more than welcone to port the S8 and Note 8 when they are released yourself. Xda isn't a place to come and get free stuff to make your phone cool, it's a place for developers to come together and share idea's and work

You are right, it isnt completely impossible.
But if you observe, note 3 has more active developers than note 4.
The renowned darkera13 has been working on note 3since the very beginning, even aryamod.
As for note 4, the best is aurora and norma.
Anyways, even if someone is able to port it, forget about those stupid requests, that the OP
has made.

Newer Android for Galaxy Tab S2 10.1

@Android-Andi could you please provide a guide for building a ROM for this device to compile and create an Android Go version or keep updated your excellent job? I would like to contribute, thank you.
Firstly this isnt Galaxy Tab S2 this is Galaxy Tab 2
Next he isnt obliged to do that! There are tons of tutorials available on internet as well as on XDA
Iirc Andi left development and we should be thankful to him for keeping our tab alive
I myself am trying to upstream kernel if i succeed we might get new android versions
Well this is great news! I have minor problems on my tab 10.1 and 7.0 like it being sometimes very slow which is common for android 7 unfortunately. I wish both of you the best of luck!

I recently installed 6.01 on my old Tab 2. I used lineageOS13 from android Andi. It's nice and stable, but would love to get updates and security patches.
Why does official lineageos not support the galaxy tab 2?
