[Q] Disable fast dormancy on the S5? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need to be able to disable fast dormancy on the S5. The Bahamian phone system, AFAIK, doesn't support FD. At least not during 2012/13. I asked a friend living, in Abaco, who's very knowledgeable on the subject. He's unaware of any changes on this front.
I found a reference to a hack for the S3, but I don't know if it works with the S5. Or if rooting is needed to (e.g., to hack build.prop).
Anybody got information on this issue?

The GT-9300 app should work, if it's still possible to disable it.

I use fast dormancy of gohanmoral and does fine

Thanks! As far as I can tell, the app is working. Until I connect with a carrier that doesn't support FD, I won't know for sure. Unless there's a way to verify it's working on my S5 while I'm still in the States. I can, of course, inspect the file and see the changes applied. The question is whether or not it's valid for this phone and OS rev. Ideas?

Thank you, just used this on my Galaxy S5, hope it helps.

We still haven't gotten to the Bahamas, where the fast dormancy hack is needed. If you can test the installation, and can report on the results, I want to hear how it goes.

[Q] Dialer in US ROMs?

Has anyone actually tried copying out the dialer/phone app from an international ROM and putting it into a US ROM? I did a quick search of the dev and general Tab forums and haven't seen a mention of it.
Is the limitation for not making calls in the modem or kernel, or is it just the lack of the software?

I *think* it is just the lack of software.
Interesting. I may have to look into this, compare an international ROM to the stock AT&T one.
Are either of you actually reading these forums?
The AT&T Tab has already been hacked to make calls.
The TMo Tab can be made to make calls, but you'll lose 3G.

Dave

It's been tried. So has just flashing the modem. Neither worked.
Yeah I've seen those posts, I was just just wanting to see if there was any way to do it without having to flash another ROM onto my Tab. I'm guessing it's pretty deeply ingrained into the framework or something.
(Mainly wanted to ask because my quick search did not pull up results of retrofitting Phone capability into a "crippled" US ROM)
I dont know if this has been pointed out before but in my tmo tab when using root explorer and I look in system/app all the phone apps are already installed. They are just being blocked, is there a way to modify them to work?

The dialer is there and I think it is installed but is disabled somehow. Trying to bring it up just displays a message on the screen saying the dialer application is not supported on this device. I would be very interested in just modifying this ROM to re-enable that feature so flashing the EURO ROM isn't necessary. I am sure someone will figure it out before me but I am looking into it too. I am just so scared of doing stuff with this thing because for some reason it feels like uncharted territory and I am afraid of unknown consequences. Once the dialer is working a simple IMEI and serial number change will remove any restrictions on T-Mobile's end.

Simple IMEI change? Do you have the instructions?
Isn't that illegal to change imei?

I got to thinking, maybe it's a service or something preventing it? (Either an option or argument passed to the services)

Do you have an SPT box? You need the hardware this isn't a pure software solution.
http://www.sptbox.com/Products/Default.aspx
And it isn't cheap so I haven't decided whether or not I want it that bad. But I have been reading their forums and this product can in fact change the IMEI and serial number. It has been tested as sucessful on just about every GSM model of the TAB there is.
I just realized this is all way off topic. The OP is talking about enabling the dialer software and not changing the IMEI. Lets continue this in another thread.

I see the author of the thread in the "Themes and Apps" section about this asked that his thread be deleted. Possibly because (according to the signature) the OP of that thread has a I9500 and not a I9505? Either way, the OP of that thread should explain themselves so people don't mess their phones up.
Anyway, there is an App that I have used with my S2 Skyrocket that works great for recording calls. It has a different interface than the other method, but works well. I have not used this App on my S4 yet, but a couple of the reviews seem to point to the fact that it works well with the S4.
If you want to check it out, here is a link:

**EDIT**
I see some reviews say it works with the S4 and some claim it does not...(as usual)...so you might want to Email the APK creator about support if you are interested in the App.

Let me know if you install it and it works. Like I said, it has mixed reviews for the S4, some say it works, some say it does not. I have a feeling people aren't setting it up correctly. I will try it when I can get around to installing it, but it might be a few days. Thanks.

I Emailed the "Call Reorder" app developer and he said that the "call recorder" app didn't work on the S4 yet. He said it was because of the QUALCOMM chipset and that he was working on it. He said it is working on the Octa version though. Maybe that explains the mixed reviews on the Play website. I have to wonder about it because it initially was not supported on the Skyrocket, yet it has worked for my flawlessly on that phone for me. I wonder if it just has to be set up in a certain way? If anybody gets it working on the AT&T S4, let us know.

I've been using Call Recorder on all my Samsung phones (SGS2, SGS3, Note 2) - I really know it inside-out - excellent app btw. For the moment our phones (SGH-I337(M)) are NOT officially supported and although you it may work on other settings, the sound is terrible (almost unusable). I tried all possible combinations without much success. On the other hand the developer is very quick at updating the app and addressing bugs so there is hope

Missing NFC icon

Has anyone had an issue with their NFC icon not showing up in the status bar even though NFC is enabled and working? I had it on my T-Mob S5 to start but it seems to have vanished... not sure it happened until after I rooted, but thing is, I have 3 other S5's in the house, all rooted, and all of them but mine show the icon... and I haven't applied any changes to mine via root that haven't been done to the others (only change was to enable SD write access). Not a showstopper by any stretch, but just kinda annoying... tried clearing cache from recovery, no help. Just a weird thing, wondering if anyone else has seen this?
Does not show on my S5 either, but I am glad. The notification bar can become cluttered enough anyway.
Agreed, it's no big loss... I just don't like things not working that should be.

Did anyone see what this actually does? Does this unlock the bootloader? Just wondering.

no you can't do anything else. Also i know that your provider can tell if you have this option enabled because i was trying to get support for intermittent wifi and they asked me why i had it enabled.

Wow... sneaky bastards!
All phones on Marshmallow have this option by default even if it does nothing. It's a feature that Google is using for phones with unlockable bootloaders for increased security and it just happened to make its way here and on multiple other phones that don't allow unlocking.

It's like the dummy thermostat put on the wall behind the counter at banks.
Tellers are some of the fussiest folks when it comes to temperatures.
The HVAC management company never allows them to change settings.
So to stop complaints, they put a dummy thermostat up.
And it gets adjusted many times during the day.
And they feel better about it.

How to enable Smart Call?

Smart Call is a feature I love on Samsung phones.
I just picked up a dual sim S8+ last week, and I can't find where to enable it. Samsung's website says to do it through 'Caller ID and spam protection' in the Call settings, but this is not an option I have.
Is this not a feature available on the international model or did Samsung remove it from Oreo?
Smart Call is available for phones meant to be shipped to US. I don't think it would work on your phone as it's not meant to be sold in US. Samsung uses HIYA to provide the smart call service. Installing HIYA yourself should also give you pretty similar results. Personally I like TrueCaller better as it works for Individual callers also and not just Businesses as in HIYA. TrueCallers database is much more robust.

Hey guys, i'm very new to this as well and i purchased T-mobile Galaxy S8 Active thats unlocked which I use on Koodo in Canada. I would also like to have smart call back like i did on my old S8.
