[Q] kernel for slide2wake - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With the recent death of Touch Control I'm looking for a kernel as stock as possible but with sweep to wake and sweep to lock. Will any of the kernel tweaking apps allow me to do this with the stock 4.4.3 kernel?
Thanks

Ok so here's a list of kernels that appear to support S2W. Disclaimer: Check if the latest version of these kernels supports 4.4.3 - some don't yet.
Franco
Matr1x
Bricked
Mahdi
AK
Semaphore
Edit
Mako also appears to have S2W
Note1: none of these kernels can be described as 'stock'
Note2: The bricked kernel, at least, has re-written S2W which is also in Matr1x
Note3: S2w appears to have been removed from AK

wifi issue
my wifi is not working (not getting turn ON) after installing it (touch control) on 4.4.3.
on 4.4.2 it was working smoothly.
when ever i flush it with stock kernel, wifi works perfectly.
any solution for this ?

No. The developer has stopped work on Touch Control and it won't work on 4.4.3, hence my OP.

I'm on stock 4.4.4 KTU84P and using Touch Control. I'm not sure whether the developer has stopped developing it or not but it still works fine for me.
I just recently flashed KTU84P via recovery and opened up TC to download a Kernel fix (TC worked fine after a restart). After that though, my Wi-Fi stopped working.
If you're upgrading from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3/4.4.4 and Wi-Fi isn't working then try flashing this fix through your preferred recovery (TWRP recommended)

i am facing the same issue. please let me know if you have got any solution on this issue.
on 4.4.2 'touch control' used to work smoothly and no wi-fi issue.
but on 4.4.3, after installing 'touch control' wifi is not working (on any provided kernel except the stock one).
thanks!

is there any substitute for this 'touch control' /PGM for 4.4.3 and onward?

any other app ?

thanks for the feedback. is there any other app to do the same job?

Not as far as I know. You have to flash a custom kernel with s2w enabled then activate it with a kernel tool app.

UPDATE
I've tried several kernels, and have settled on the Matr1x kernel, it works on 4.4.4 and has a very good implementation of double tap to wake (DT2W). It needs to be enabled with Semaphore kernel manager. The Xposed module Gravity Box will allow a long press on the 'recent apps' soft key in the navigation bar to sleep the device.
The combination is a good as Touch Control.

UPDATE 2
Lollipop specification says:-
Where supported by the hardware, your device will wake up as soon as you pick it up or tap the screen twice.

UPDATE
Stock Lollipop kernel doesn't support S2W or DT2W on nexus 4

OK I've built a kernel which is entirely stock apart from Stratosk's Double tap to Wake.

[Q] Nexus 4 menu buttons.

Hi all!
For a long time I had been searching for a ROM, that would be able to manage virtual buttons on my Nexus 4. Finally, I found what I need in Slim ROM. It is very good ROM, but now I want to use 4.4
So my question is: Is there any 4.4-based ROM, without any bugs, that can help me set my virtual buttons (their functions, and positioning)?
Thanks.
There are many roms that can do this, CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, AOKP and SlimRoms. There isn't a stable KitKat build for any of them yet. Look in the "Nexus 4 Original Android Development" section for updates. You can install the nightly versions if you wish.
You can also do this with stock using Gravity Box module for Xposed Framework, which isn't working for KitKat yet.
All 4.4 KitKat roms have bugs including stock from Google: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527705

Thank you for the complete answer :good:
I just want to post the exactly same question,
because I love the change virtual nav buttons and have 4 with long and short press action,
I tested many 4.4 but not found any rom in 4.4 who let me change the soft buttons..
Well, for now Xposed framework is up for Android 4.4 Kitkat and you can use GravityBox. But without Xposed I personaly use latest SlimKat Alpha 1.4. The bugs are getting sloved quickly, and modyfing the soft buttons is very easy. I would recommend SlimKat for everyone.
Hy again,
I tried roms what you recommend, but I have one question/ request because none of them have an option to enable a Menu button like on my screenshot
Can someone explain why ? He just let me enable the ugly 3dot menu button
Thanks a lot
P.s.: is it possible via xposed ?

Xposed for Lollipop has been released...

Awesome to see will def have to wait till implementation into a lot of the rims that I use or Rom devs get a chance to test for there specific Rom. But great news have been a few modules I was missing on sense.

Is there a working xposed module for customising sense that works? I tried Sense 6 toolbox and Xtended settings, but it can't detect the Xposed framework. The only modules working are on the screenshots.

Sense 6 technically works, but you can't access the settings because it displays a big "not compatible" message. Still, if you had it before and the settings are still there it will continue to use those settings. Thats my experience with it so far.
Sense rom
is this confirmation that this new xposed works on sense rom lollipop?
I imagine the apk modules will need to be rewritten, that i can wait.

Anyone with an M8 experiencing Motion Launch not working after flashing Xposed Alpha? This is the double tap to wake feature. I'm just wondering if it's something I did separately to cause it not to work or a side effect of flashing this alpha version of Xposed.
Not working for me. One M8 GPE TWRP 2.8.5.0. Hangs on the boot animation. Required a reflash to restore my device.

Motion Launch is working perfectly on my M8 with stock rooted Sense 5.0.1 and the new Xposed alpha. Double tap to wake, swipe to unlock both working fine.
I’ve been waiting for weeks, and here you finally are
Is gravity box working with Sense lollipop? I am on ARHD 34.0 please suggest me a module which can get me as close to sense toolbox or gravitybox

Your not the only one. Motion Launch stopped working on my m8 with the GPe rom and Xposed. Maybe it has something to do with the modules installed?

A full reboot cleared it up, but it did show again once more after that... Another reboot fixed it again, followed immediately by a soft reboot of course. Hopefully the same works for you, I know I need my double tap to wake.

Double tap to wake up on stock kernel?

I HAVE ANDROID 5.1 stock, i dont wanna install a custom kernel .
Is IT possible to get dt2w on the stock kernel?I have Root acces btw.

Not possible, best thing you can do if you don't want to install a custom kernel is use a app. There used to be one called TouchControl; though it's not on the Play store anymore. There's others that uses the proximity sensor to wake your phone up without using the power button.
FMD
Sometimes, some devs make stock kernel with DT2W, but there isn't one for 5.1.
Anyway, if you also think that as custom kernel, too, then I'm sorry to say you have absoutely no luck.
DT2W enabled with third party apps always have problems. They consume battery too much or they work only 1~2 out of 10 times.

Dragon Clang & Square Register issue?

Any developers here have any info as to why the Square Register app force closes on Screwd, BenzoRom, & AOSIP ROMs. Flashing a custom kernel fixes it, but then a lot of times that breaks the "OK Google" detection & or dbl tap to wake. Thanks for any help.
I don't know the answer but I have the same issue running DU rom with AK unofficial Kernel.

I'm currently on Srewd rom 6/29 & still have the same issue with the Square Register app. Tried Elemental kernel & that fixed the issue with Square app, but Elemental made dbl tap to wake & "OK Google" detection from any screen unstable. I flashed Elite kernel & that seemed to do the trick for the Square app, dt2w, & OK Google from any screen.

LineageOS First Build!

The first builds of Lineage are out for the shamu finally!

How do I get rid of the ugly watermark across my screen?
The link to the nightly version doesn't work
Link to nightly worked fine for me. Haven't flashed yet, but it downloaded, albeit slowly.
https://download.lineageos.org/shamu
How to remove this cm to lineage migration build background ?
People who have the watermark did you flash the nighly or experimental?
From my understanding the experimental build is only used for migration from CM and will have that watermark no matter what, the nightly build should have no water mark. I believe they posted this info on their site.
You're supposed to flash nightly over experimental. Just read the instructions...

can confirm - no watermark at nightly building!
Strange how everytime I try to download the nightly it fails. No matter what browser I use
first run with lineage - every thing works fine!
Does anyone know, how I can get SElinux "enforcing"? - other kernel? whichone? - need it for using Viper4Android

You mean permissive, but you can use stock kernel enforced, a bit tricky, you need to root with supersu, latest beta sr3 runs fine. Superuser from los page doesn't recognize viper4a for root at all. I flashed latest arise and supersu, reboot, viper4a still not recognized for root, uninstall viper4a driver, supersu recognize viper4a now, confirm it. Reboot to recovery and reflash latest arise. Now it's working.
If you want Dolby too you have to use blackbird kernel and stay permissive.

And yes of course - sorry - I mean "permissive"
I flashed "Viper4Android_Cleaner_v1_3_Android_7x.zip" and than "ViPER4Android_2.5.0.5_guitardedhero.zip"

Good, if it works that easy, but there was something about the cleaner, don't remember right now exactly, but it breaks something. May it was dolby.
Edit: using the cleaner always kills cast connection, that's why I didn't use it anymore

Kernel Adiutor Mod should let you toggle that (requires root) under the Misc Controls tab. I would imagine the ad-filled subpar original Kernel Adiutor from the Play Store would too but I wouldn't recommend using that.
Is there an updater built in or do we flash all updates? Reading in other threads that ppl get a update notification when a new build is available. I'm on experimental cuz the nightly link didn't work when I tried last night
