Cannot flash stock recovery - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running a completely stock nexus 10. yes, it has been rooted before, but it got the full wipe/load from factory image for 4.4.3.
I am able to flash twrp and cwm touch for recovery.. which I'd normally not care about BUT it needs to go in for warranty work.. its battery draw is faster than the charger can push (expect it to be hardware failure.. same issue with 4.4.2)
I am unlocked. After I do my fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img ... and then I try to boot into recovery.. I just get that droid laying on his back with a red triangle with a ! in it..
suggestiona?

I dont believe so unless they changed it from 4.2 that it shipped with. That recovery (which I also tried) allowed me to install stuff from .zip while in recovery (how the nexus was rooted..), wipe cache, wipe device, wipe delvik, etc... It was ugly, but it worked. I dont go into recovery very often, but I know this dead android isn't what I should be seeing on this device... or it wasn't the same one that I saw when I first got it. After sitting at the dead droid for a bit, it then continues to boot into the system and that works all fine.
I gave up for the time being.. I just flashed 4.4.2 on it, left recovery dead, and re-locked the bootloader. I'm shipping it off to samsung for charging issues, and they said first and foremost they'll flash it.. I'll let them discover the issue for themselves. IF they dont just swap out the device all together. I first noticed my charging issue with 4.4.3, so I flashed back to 4.4.2 (never had problems using this image before...) and the problem persists using different charging bricks.. so I think its a hardware issue. WAS plugged in during some power flickers.. wonder if that passed through to the device.
I'm assuming Samsung will use a proper flash vs. what we're trying to use.. and they should be able to do it with a locked bootloader.

FYI, as @lj50036 said, that is the stock recovery for 4.4. When you see that screen, you have to hit Power + Volume Up (or Volume Down) simultaneously to bring up the recovery menu. like factory wipe, clear cache, etc.

Just push them both at the same time and let go. It usually takes a few taps before they show, but they eventually do. There's no reboot or anything. The blue words just show up in the top left corner of that screen with the Android laying on it's back with the exclamation mark over it. This was how it is on my N5 and N7 (2013) as well, or was before I flash Philz Recovery on all my devices.

Well, the blue text shows up after successfully pushing the buttons. Before you push the buttons, all you'll be seeing is the Android laying on his back with the red exclamation mark over it.

Thanks gents. Last time I entered into recovery it was the original rom.. 4.2. I rooted, installed cwm, and hadn't returned. Odd that they made this change, but I'm cool with it lol. actually, I may have never actually gotten into the recovery mode before I flashed cwm to it now that I think about it.
Its there. I found that if I hit power , held it down, and then hit VOL- it let me in... just had to be quick bout it.. like less than a 1/2 second. sweet.. she's all factory fresh and ready to run at samsung. Yall rock.
cant imagine why they would do that..
She's only charging from 23-25% in 2 hours, at idle, no use on a vanilla install.. so something is definitely wrong! We'll see if its the brick or the device, either way I'm good to go.

Please.

Guys please I know this is the wrong forum but no one is answering help. At all. Alright, I went to flash the ICS Sense alpha, and needed to restore a backup. I went into hboot, and restored the PD98IMG.zip. Afterwards it said "Press power to reboot" so i did. The phone turned off, and now nothing. After a LONG time the phone turned on to the White HTC Splash and vibrated CONSTANTLY, until the battery was pulled. I tried volume down + power but nothing. Except for the occasional white screen, nothing. Please, anyone/.
You're bricked
Sent from my Desire HD using telepathy...
I think your phone had a bootloop. Did you already installed custom recovery? Can you enter it through fastboot menu (vol down + power)?
I doubt he's bricked, why are you restoring that zip? You restore your back up....from clockwork?

It won't enter into fastboot. Occasionally the white HTC screen comes on with a constant vibrate and the only way to stop that is to pull the battery. No fastboot, no recovery, nothing.
It wouldnt enter into recovery so I had to take the long way, by using the PD98IMG

I am confused. So what exactly happens when doing this:
remove or rename the PD98IMG on the sd card
pull the battery from the DHD
re-enter it and hold volume down and power until the hboot starts
navigate by volume down/up to Recovery and press POWER
If you had to restore back to factory, why bother flashing ICS?
You should get away by installing one of the RUU using PC. here is a guide on how to install RUU and you'll have to search this section to find a RUU or google it.
Though firstly i would ask you if you can go into the recovery mode anyhow since you're saying that your phone can get the HTC logo. For that, hold down POWER + volume DOWN key to get you into hboot (IF YOU CAN) and choose recovery from there, once in recovery, go to option where you wipe your data + cache, wipe both of em and try restarting again...If you can't even get into recovery then do the RUU way of getting the rom working.
EDIT:
I'm not sure what in the world happened, but it booted into the ATT stock ROM. After 30 minutes of vibration and idk what else, it finally booted.
Lol least its on

Gratz, suppose this thread's unnecessary now?
Anyway take care of what you do: always do a nandroid backup prior to flashing everything. Better spend 5min for backup than 5 days without a phone.
I think know what happens. If I remember correctly you had your phone replaced. And it came with gb. The pd98 you flashed was the froyo one. Hence the crazy vibration and long boot time. If Im right thisvwill happen each time you reboot Until you get the gb bootloader back on
Also spamming the threads is a pretty good way of getting banned. Maybe zel or Andy will be nice about it

That sounds somewhat correct. I DID get it replaced, but had a GB PD98 on the SD card. Anyway, it vibrated for quite some time, and eventually the vibration stopped. So I let the phone sit as I figured out some way to salvage the phone. And the the next HTC splash booted, and the phone proceeded into the stock ROM. Idk what happened, but I'm not complaining.
Dear Lord, it just turned off and is doing it again. But, I'm praying for the best again. Thanks guys.

When you succesfuly back in your phone, just root it with AAHK and install some custom ROM and you should be fine.

The phone itself is already rooted, but I tried booting into CWM, and it did the same thing as it did before. So I have to run the RUU, and then S on the phone, and run the hack kit again. I already ran the RUU once, and nothing.
Probably best just to start over and do everything again, even if you've already done it,maybe the root didnt work?

Constant Reboots, Hanging and Annoying Me

Okay, so first off, I'm literally about to light this fking thing on fire.
This damn phone has been the death of me. I have a Tbolt and Galaxy Tab, and NEITHER have been as much of a pain in my ass.
This seems impossible because since I got the phone, I've had nothing but problems.
1. Unlocked bootloader via fastboot. K, done.
2. Flash AmonRa Recovery (I did this before AND after using CWM recovery, having custom rom, etc, it never worked) Always sat in a loop at the google X with unlock symbol, or just reboots into normal (and yes, the MD5s are correct) 3. I've had the phone get into the rom both with SIM and without, and randomly reboot, from using anything from market, to file explorer, to hitting the lock screen.
Honestly, I'm tempted to just sell it again (since I bought it off ebay) and buy something different, though that's a pain to do, and I need it for a trip to europe in a week, so I would love to have a phone I'm not pissed off at. And yea, already got mad enough I threw it.
I've literally spent HOURS looking through Google results on all the issues. And have YET to make this lil pos stable enough for me to use like I do my tbolt. nice 100 battery pulls. Seriously. Heeelllpp on this, :-/

try
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase system
and then flash via fastboot the AmonRa recovery again.
BTW, which ROM are you trying to flash? ICS or Gingerbread? And do you have Blackrose installed?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872441 << Flashed this.
So far, I've knocked my network to 2g and it's been fine. though not really much of a fix. And I had cleared all of the above using CWM prior to the attempted flash. I'd rather not have to wipe everything again just to get AmonRa. I've wiped quite a few times. Though did get something about /sd-ext missing when erasing via CWM. Also, I tried erasing recovery, and got this: "erasing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)". Not sure if that matters. Just seems that flashing via Fastboot has failed everytime. I flashed CWM via fastboot and that failed too, I ended up getting it working via RomManager.
I had the same problem. After i dropped my phone on the floor everything worked fine

First of all any ROM you find here for an update is going to have bugs. So have to prepared for reboots, and/or no boots.
On the other hand, you have to verify to see if you have any hardware issues. In order to do so, you have to flash to a stock ROM to see if the issue continues. If stock ROM is just fine, then its the custom ROM that is causing grief! So try another custom ROM, until the one that suits your needs.
my sugestion 2 u - use cm7.2. use 4ext touch recov, wipe all ur stuff, flash blackrose hboot with no repartitioning, flash cm7.2 rom, finally, stop b!tching!

Still having bootup problems
Okay, sorry to bring this back up, but I am still having an issue with the phone booting. If I get the phone on, it's fine, doesn't randomly turn off or anything. However, if I try to reboot, power off and power back on for any reason....it becomes a pain to get back up and running. I usually have to do a couple battery pulls before it comes back up. Does the same thing. Hits the X, vibrates once like it's gonna turn on. Then a few seconds to a min later, goes black, then flashes the x and vibrates once again. It loops like this until I pull the battery and try again. Sometimes it takes a couple times to work. Its not the ROM either, because this is the issue I had when I first got the phone and did fastboot oem unlock. It would hang on stock. It's done it on all 3 ROMs I've tried. I don't wanna say fully it's a CPU issue, because I don't have issues once it's on.
Any new idears?
PS. I tried CM7, and I didn't like it. Not a fan of AOSP ironically enough.
The Nexus One will give off 7 Vibrations to indicate a hardware issue, we will just have to wait and see

I cannot boot to my recovery, I tried to flash the stock ROM with Odin, it says its successful but the problem persists. Please help me! Did I hard brick it??

If you can boot, you can get to recovery. Hold down Power and Volume up until it reboots. release power and hold volume up until it gets past the blue "booting recovery" and then some more until recovery comes up. Then restore your nandroid that you made before this started.

As my OP states, I have flashed the stock firmware with Odin (3x now). The progress bar finishes and it reboots but the screen just remains black and it vibrates. I did do a manual format in TWRP as the Slim Bean changelog states I should have done. I am freaking out If I bring it back to the store (its less than 30 days old) will they deny me a replacement? I can't see how they could tell I did anything to it if I just say "IDK what happened it just stopped working."
EDIT: I flashed both Slim Bean Build 6 and their Addon pack at the same time.

You have to do a factory reset from your recovery, but getting into the recovery is all about timing. Pull the battery, put battery back in, hold power, home and volume up until it vibrates, as soon as you feel vibration, let go of power only... Then if you get into recovery, do a factory reset and reboot

The employees at your local store won't have a clue or would even try to figure out the issue. Where the phone gets sent to for repair is a different story. I'm pretty sure those guys can tell the difference between a rooted phone and one that's not.

If your over the 14 day then im sorry to tell you that your phone could be stuck that way unless you send it out to get it fixed. Samsung will not help you with warrenty on this.

Well, I went back to best buy, tried to play it off like IDK what happend. Guy saw right through me and said "it looks like the phone was damaged while rooting" I admitted to it. Luckily he said Geek Squad Protection covers rooting errors. Because I was within 30 days of purchase, he let me sign up for it. So now I have to wait a week and make a claim for a new phone.

Hhaha! "Golden" This guy knows :good:
Has anyone figured this out? Also, will AT&T replace it free of charge? I am stressed out now. I flashed the same Slim Bean, how the hell does it brick our devices beyond where even Odin cant restore? Does anyone have a boot loader for download maybe? I really need some help here, and would be nice for those in the future to figure out how to fix this

Fix for Infinite N4 Bootloop

I found the solution.
Really pisses me off that it was this simple.
Turn on your phone into bootloader
Leave it on bootloader until the battery drains 100%
You can tell it is drained when the phone looks like it is bricked and when you plug it in a red light shows on the notification light
Let it charge for ten minutes
Boot the phone
It should boot. Yeah. Seriously.
It looks like a battery fault of some sort. Welcome

So two days ago my Nexus 4 died, and i charged it back up. When I tried to turn it on, it would go to my boot screen, but it would bootloop for 5 minutes, and then restart. This never happened before even the other two times my phone died. I have tried doing a lot of things including switching PA for CM11, and getting stock everything from google. Everything goes succesfully, but again, for every different boot logo, it does the same thing. It really pisses me off beacuse i cant find anyone else with a similar problem, so i dont know what to do.. Also, since the thing cant boot, i cant even turn it back in to tmobile, because it is unlocked and they don't help with anything unlocked... any help would be appreciated Also, if i need to proivide more info on the software i can

Did you try to wipe Dalvik Cache & Cache in recovery after flashing back to stock?
If the above doesn't work then do this:
Boot into recovery(go to bootloader(vol. down+power) and select recovery). Use "adb pull /sdcard/the_folder_goes_here/and_so_on.jpg" to pull whatever you want to backup(pics, music etc) and flash stock ROM from Google https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occam
It's the best way.

+1. And if that doesn't work and you have a hardware issue, boot into fastboot and use
fastboot oem lock
That'll lock the bootloader

Well yeah, but flashing the stock rom just left me with a bootloop, just with those 4 rings..
boot into recovery, see if your computer detect your phone as android device, try use minimal adb and fastboot, it happen to me once, and success to fix it. if it cant fix it, try use nexus root toolkit, the tools here on xda nexus 4 forum. choose back to stock, and dont forget to choose current status as soft-bricked/bootloop. let me know how it goes.. we'll figure it out
HELP ME PLEASE.
I have the same issue where no matter which factory ROM i install using soft bricked option, or fastboot my Google Nexus 4 will not get past the black screen with the four circular colours which come together to form a white circle then repeat.
I know the proximity sensor is defective since it is broken and I am wondering if this could be the problem?
What else can I try?
Could a custom ROM be a solution?
Update. I somehow managed to get it up and running on factory version 4.3 but I flashed/ used an older radio.img "cwm-radio-mako-m9615a-cefwmazm-2.0.1700.48.img" got it from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/ref-mako-modem-collection-t2087227
and by using this method "http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312

Gday again, just curious as to how you went with going back to android 4.2.2. Is your phone back in action? I was stoked when mine worked again, even though it took me 12 hrs to make it happen lol.
This might be helpful, was for me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/nexus-4-bootloop-official-4-3-ota-t2595057
I fixed it, and had it fixed for maybe 4 months, but now it is back in a bootloop. What i did to fix it the first time beats me, i just randomly flashed 4.4 roms, and it booted once. I used adb sideload for some stuff, but i am gonna keep trying.

There is a problem, seems like the lg drivers are not compatible with windows 8.1...
Found a fix, check the forum page

[Q] Phone will only boot into Android system recovery. Can't get it to boot normally.

First, some info about the phone. It's a SCH-I545, I rooted it the day I got it (I forget which method), still running stock, and it's been running great for months.
But a week or so ago, I grabbed my phone to use it, and noticed it was on the Android system recovery screen. So I pulled the battery a couple of times to restart, and every time it's same thing.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this, or what I can do?
Thanks

Mate ,
If every time reboot into recovery it may be soft bricked , did you try factory reset it? if that does not work you may have to reflash your rom again , if you are stock you have to use Odin
Can you enter download mode? If so flash custom recovery with odin (philz is best) download custom rom and put on external storage then Flash custom rom with new recovery

Thanks for the advice! Sadly, the usb port on my phone stopped working awhile back (I have to use an external battery charger), so I'm probably out of luck if flashing is the only way to go. I know there probably isn't one, but do you know of any way to flash something from sd?

You can flash a ROM from the SD card, but not recovery.
IF the USB port is fried and you can't get it to boot to the ROM, then I don't think you could get recovery on it.

Holy...CRAP.
I dismissed your advice about buttons at first, but a few hours later when I was dismantling my phone for the hundredth time during the two weeks that it's been broken, I decided that it couldn't hurt to check. Sure enough, disassembled, all the internal buttons are fine.
The buttons on the phone's outter shell, however? Totally bent. I straighten them out, put it all back together, and power it on. And it WORKED.
Dear friend, and I do consider you a friend, you gave me back something I thought I had lost, something I couldn't afford to replace.
From the bottom my heart, thank you. Thank you so very much.
