[List][Open!]XDA-Exclusive Invite List
Hi everyone,
It is with sadness that I must announce that this thread is being closed. It has simply served its purpose now, demand has dropped off and invites are flowing like Niagara Falls, which doesn't make for a great combination.
It's been a real pleasure being able to facilitate the sharing of so many invites, and being able to bring so many people across to enjoy this fantastic device. I'd like to thank all of the people who so kindly and generously shared their invites here, you guys are the stars of this thread and I can't even begin to tell you all how much I appreciate you choosing this thread as the place to share your invites. Here's a list of the invite sharing superstars I'm talking about:
@C13v3r0n3, @GuilderlandNY, @Fidelio_o, @Sisyphus306, @Ionakr, @kazuki1, @petrus425, @Rod3, @Tonk99, @MagicOnline, @knightsh, @SteveG12543, @stivelio, @leximu5, @glwilliams4, @zagzag99, @pshhsp, @fburgos, @Hogyoku, @Logic717, @Lodberg, @xzile, @samteeee, @muzhik, @tingen, @gotojanoo, @riassan, @quickquest88, @philipp.haus, @guitarhero2, @izi975, @tr1gg3r.man, @w4rr3nSU660, @jlevy73, @Veeon, @peteak, @kaynpayn, @proxy, @faust1028, @tke918, @secretkloud, @teh roxxorz, @jojohnson250, @jojohnson250, @jrior001, @franky98, @knzzz, @QuBeX, @sandeeppathak007, @thehip26, @prabs99, @pit5bul, @Evolitist, @ellopr, @drp1, @faisus, @edgeez25, @barbo, @Deciare, @CafeKampuchia, @cknewdeal, @beastlykings, @basscheck12, @butro, @BillyHunt, @alleykat2561, @AntLyoN2053, @Astagar, @aliander, @apd, @6thfloor, @demkantor
I'm sorry if I left anybody out!
And a huge thanks to @dansou901 and @treChoy for getting the whole thing started
If you want to share invites with XDA members you can still do so in the other invite thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2825090
Just be aware that if you want to share with real XDA members you're going to have to be choosy because many people asking for invites in that thread have created an XDA account purely to ask for an invite.
Anyhoo, thanks once again to everyone who got involved in this little exercise, timmaaa signing off!!
A Little Explanation:
Usernames written like this have received an invite/phone.
Usernames written like this have been contacted once and have not replied, this incurs a one week suspension and being moved to the bottom of the list. Failing to reply a second time will mean permanent removal.
Usernames written like this have been removed permanently after failing to reply twice or breaking rules/policy.

Hey everyone!
Most of you here know about the "Sharing the Invitation" List here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2731057
But if you've been following the thread, it's been falling apart, mainly due to impatient beggars and trolls who have nothing better to do with their lives. It's a good idea, but when put to practice under inopportune circumstances, it falls apart. Kinda like communism.
It got me thinking. What if we made an XDA-Exclusive list here? I have a feeling that people here are much more civil and respectful than over on the OnePlus forums. The One is supposed to be a developer-oriented phone, and XDA is the heart of the developer community. I want to get this phone in the hands of the great developers here ASAP. As much as I love custom ROMs and CyanogenMod in its glory days, Cyanogen Inc. has become shady and untrustworthy. Not to mention, people here are probably much more likely to spread invites and respectfully wait for more to be shared and released, instead of begging repeatedly.
Just a little idea. I feel like this community here has much to offer when it comes to this phone.
EDIT: This thread is now in much more capable hands than mine. Please keep cooperating, and with this recent "Storm of Invites" hopefully one of us will get our hands on one. Thank your for your participation!

Yes I do like idea. The one plus forms are chaos with many drive by invite beggars and nay sayers, and as such, the invite list reflects that, having been filled with trolls and people just looking to service themselves. The XDA forum members are much more civilized, and looking to participate with the community. If you can organize a way to shave invites, when they can be shared, then I would be onboard.

I would open up a public spreadsheet on Google Docs, but that's what the other invite list thread did, and trolls repeatedly attacked, erasing names and profaning the spreadsheet. I'd want a Moderator, a Recognized Developer, or someone powerful like that to control the invite list, and cause immediate punishment and consequences to those who try to profane or beg. @graffixnyc seems to be a driving force here in the OnePlus One community over here at XDA, maybe he could help us.

I would also be up for this. I am mostly a lurker and don't comment much in the forums but I love reading on XDA. It drives me crazy each time I go to the opo forums.

I could help maintaining a list here. What I would suggest is to get a new thread opened, and have the OP control over the list. That way, only the OP can edit it and add entries. Also, there should be a limitation (like on the invite teams over at the Oneplus forums). If you like me to do it, I'm up for it.

That sounds like a great way to do it, this way trolls won't be able to mess everything up. Although the thread is bound to be attacked by trolls and beggars. Also lets get some developers on this phone, we could move them up on the list, so that custom roms are available to the rest of us, once we get the phone

Sounds like a great idea. I'd happily bring any invites if i get them to here.

Ok, so let's do it. Before I will open the list, I want to be sure this is backed up by our forum moderators like @Naddict, just to avoid to have it closed down before start.

That seems like it would work very well. There should be some sort of "evaluation" to get onto the list. Just looking around the person's profile to see what/if they've contributed any relevant/helpful information to the forums. Mods and developers should be first priority. If anyone is caught begging or trolling at all, they are kicked off the "invite team" and are put on a "ban list", preventing them from trying to join again or joining any further invite lists here on XDA, if we choose to have any more.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

no sense creating a new thread...you pretty much have set up the guidelines that you want to use when you exchange information here...
I say kick it off from my post on, if things spiral into too much off topic banter, let us know. XDA is here to further development and exchange ideas, so lets always remember that we are here for that too. Oh, and respect in posts/posting, and replies!!!....
Good luck!
(OP, feel free to change your title for the thread to fit...I can delete any of the discussion threads following you post to keep things clean...let me know...cheers!)

@treChoy: When I maintain the list, wouldn't it be better to transfer thread ownership to me then? Would it be ok for you?

Seeing as we are going to be asking for invites, I will ask once and this post will be just that.
I'm just a ordinary end-user though. I mean, I've been debating on trying to get into developing but no GPE or Nexus to play with and this might be a good start.
Of course as you said in earlier posts, Devs move up the list please. Get them on to this device.

Sure, although I have no idea how to do that from Tapatalk using my data plan. And I have no access to XDA here at school on a computer, since everything is firewalled. When you change the OP, make sure it's clear that any trolling or begging will not be tolerated. I think the best people to "rank" people is to divide their number of received likes by their number of posts. Of course, this is barring people like me, who are relatively new to contributing to the forums. My "ratio" is unfairly high because I haven't posted that much. Make a "ban list" specifying users who have trolled or begged. Developers and Moderators have first priority. I'm not sure how many users we should limit it to. The bigger we make it, the more likely that one of us will get invited. Good luck!
Oh, and make sure that this thread is mentioned NOWHERE on the OnePlus forums. All of those crazed people coming over here...good god, it would be a disaster.

Me neither. But I trust the people here at XDA will be good and be team players. I want to get these good people here phones, as well as get some top-notch developers a chance to have the phone as well. If the people of this thread see that as a common purpose, then teamwork and community should ensue.

Great idea on this thread. I'd like to be added to the list. Thanks!

Not my cup of tea. That's how they get paid for giving you such a high quality app for free... ADS... you remove them, they don't get paid... apps like this are no longer free....
This is the same debate as rooting to tether. You tether... carriers get pissed... no more rooting...
You See?
I'll give you credit for being able to do this kind of stuff Very cool... but perhaps this is a mod you should have kept for yourself... you know?

Everything is up for debate. This is a Modding and hacking community. So we do things like this. But from a non-xda member view I guess you're right. But http://lmgtfy.com/?q=why+is+angry+birds+free+on+android+?
That should clear things up a bit.

If you had fundamentally changed the game, I think that would be more acceptable in terms of modding but just ripping out the ads and changing the splash screen isn't what I would describe as modding.
Modding is like creating a new level, replacing the graphics, this is definitely more akin to piracy.

Here's the definition of modding.
modify [mdfa] vb -fies, -fying, -fied (mainly tr) 1. to change the structure, character, intent, etc., of
Enough said about that.
Do you just read the title and not read the post? I'm pretty sure I said I'll be adding more mods once I get a feel for their code. Oh, yeah this is defiantly piracy since I'm tweaking an app that is free and all. Please know what you're talking about before you post.

Add me to the list that doesn't agree with this. No offense to you at all, just don't feel its right to take away their income from this app.
If people don't want the ads, they can pay $.99, or they could've just gotten the app while it was free on the amazon appstore.
I'm not sure why you're making this personal, and I don't think you really believe that I misunderstood your post or what modding is.
The problem is, this is exactly the kind of post you would expect to find from a warez forum. A crack to remove ads, and a custom splash screen, and that's it. Just because you call it a mod, doesn't make it so.
Modding is an art form and I highly respect it. You're just not there yet, and you're acting very immature about it. If you make a great game out of this, kudos to you. But in it's current form, what you posted is closer to piracy than modding. Which has nothing to do with something being free or not.
3 posters here have now warned you about it. You might take that as a hint that you should consider thinking it through again. You've also been rude to two of them and thanked the other because you misread his post.
Anyways, I wish you luck in creating a really cool mod eventually -- I really do.
But I don't think it helps anyone for me to continue to reply here, we've said our warnings and the forum moderators will sort the rest.
Also, one last peice of advice, if you're going to put yourself on stage, you should learn to take a bit of criticism without lashing out with personal insults.
Add me to the list that disagrees. Stuff like this is what ruins things for others. Also a determining factor for us getting Netflix they are afraid of what can be changed.

holy crap if u dont like the app then dont post. go troll somewhere else ....
No one is lashing out. I'm simply trying to make you who oppose this realize that you sound ridiculous. And as for Netflix.... that has nothing to do with this. So please if you don't like this, then don't download and don't troll. Can I please have a mod remove their post? I guess they forgot what kind of site there were members of. It this offends you then I guess we should removed ad-free android off the market oh yeah and remove the flashable zips MANY highly respected members post for their roms to block ads. So please. Look man
This is my final post about this.... I'm not going to argue I just want to make you understand.
1) I have been a member of this forum since 2008.... so yes, I DO know what this site is, I do know what it's about, and my "view" on this is exactly from an xda-member point of view versus what you state
2) Kudos to you still... to be able to reverse engineer.... but the irony is that what you posted in your reply to me; googling "why is angry birds free" IRONICALLY pretty much states that it's because of the adds on just about any site that you visit from the results.
3) XDA has ALWAYS considered itself to be morally ABOVE warez... what you're posting is border line warez... PERIOD. Rovio has STATED that they've made more money off of ads then they would have ever posting as a paid app. This is why they released seasons, why they released rovio for android, etc... see the pattern? It's because they're making money. It's discouraging for a coder or company to make something for android... the paid apps DO NOT sell as well as for iOS, so they reserve to ads... when money from ads no longer appears, and paid apps don't sell as well... there's no more reason to develop for them for android... then we bit*h about how there aren't enough apps for android..... just try to understand what I'm saying without lashing back. OK?
4) Again, if you're going to post - don't lash out on people that disagree with you, take their criticism and roll with it. Either ignore it or thank them for it.
5) And to the others that say... oh jeez just move on and don't post if you don't like. This isn't exactly the same. Rovio is a company, with legal capabilities, and you don't know how far they're going to go to defend their intellectual property. But seeing as this is the BULK of their business... I'm guessing far. *I KNOW THAT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY OVERBLOWN SCENARIO* But I don't want the risk of having XDA get shut down because of a cease and desist... Also, regardless of how I fee about this, I'm trying to explain to the OP that he may face legal action against him as well if they wish. He's reverse engineering and modifying intellectual property... and I don't want that happening to any developer at all
Anyway, rant over... just take our heeds and warnings OP. I'm not trying to attack you.... in a way I'm trying to protect you AND XDA.
That is all.... but the more this happens *ads being blocked by modders*, the less development you will see for android by people who do not wish to develop just paid apps. If you're going to develop for *ONE* ecosystem.... iOS is the way you're going to go... their ecosystem has more money flow... that's just a fact... and if revenue from ads is nonexistent, well, you know what will happen. Just take a look at what's happening with root and bootloaders in our community. I guarantee you carriers wouldn't care if they weren't losing money!

get off of it dude,,,,,,any mod is a change, i , my self , love the game, but you are wrong about your thinking of the different way,s of changing things, no matter where it is,
the (key west pirate)
and the adds are from (fox)
if it was a paid app, then not to many people would buy it, and hacking is hacking, no matter what it is, i have hacked open just about all the apps, a lot more then just a 1.00 app, it is just a an app, try a lot harder things then that
i love it with no (adds)
the adds are a pain in the ass, cover part of the game in one version of it , not very nice
and programmer that wrote it is getting payed by a company to write the app
do your home work on the money trail, and you find out ,

mr. dreamer..... i think you should not be on this site if u feel that modding or changing things is a crime.. here we ripp appart apps from a device and make it available for all the other device .. we make custom roms here which in fact improves the overall performance of the device ..due to which we dont change the device for a long time , which in turn is not a good thing for the manufacturers...
so if u think what this guy has done .. u should stop using custom roms and also stop tweaking ur device ..cozz if you want to get more out of ur device.. you can buy a more better version of device rather than tweaking it..
this community is all about tweaking and getting more from the existing .. may it be apps or firmware..
people have also tweaked the google maps and navigation to make it free for everyone.. so you were nowhere to be seen there..
there is an app called add free.. which every rom devloper includes in his roms
and i m sure u might be using a lot of these roms.. so u should stop using this forum..
i totally support this guy cozz.. he has just tweaked a free app...
if this thread would be taken down then then the purpose of having such a great forum wouldnt be the same...
these are the poll results for u.

and if u are saying "in a way I'm trying to protect you AND XDA".. get a life dude.. if you want to do any favor for us .. just get your ass out of this forum that would be the biggest favor
I use Adfree, the ads are gone already. I wonder if these guys bash the creator of that app or even worse, use it themselves. Oh the irony...
But it all depends on who you are and what you have contributed to xda, because the impaler released the same thing for angry birds, I don't remember anyone criticizing him for it.

Help our Community - stop akaskriller - #NeverAgain Rd. 2 ** 1:30 AM EST

Very important:
Respect the rules of XDA.. post like you thought about it, not out of rage.
I do not want to promote/help this guy.
There is a fine line between this and simply informing people.
I think the latter is worth the risk.
OP was cleaned up since its getting so much attention now
5/17/11 synopsis:
The Android Community rallied. A lot was accomplished. But, we haven't succeeded.
Make Wednesday even better. Tweet, write articles and submit them to sites, post on facebook, just do something.
Site was/is down... but because he took it down for maintenance. Not his ISP shutting him down.
ARTICLES PUBLISHED FROM OUR EFFORTS (And growing....):
UncutAndroid published it first, they tell it how it is and let users speak their mind.
AndoidSPIN Much respect for them too!
Voice Of Android Found me a new site!
RESULTS?!?!
His site is currently down...
Our developers (some who have not been around in a long time) and some who used to feud are ALL working together
and of course the below work...
Thanks to the community and XDA user andyharney we have ("You are" is directed at akaskriller, obviously):
You are in breach of Apache Software License Version 2 & GNU General Public License Version 2.
You are in breach of your AdSense account by hosting copyrighted material, you have been reported
You have been reported to Gameloft for hosting their pirated/warez apps, they have notified their legal dept.
You have been reported to your web host for hosting & distributing pirated/warez apps.
You have been reported to Paypal for profiteering off pirated/warez apps.

WAIT, WHAT'S GOING DOWN?
Recently in one of my guides, a user who apparently did not understand the intent of the thread, starting going off on me that my thread should be deleted... and started singing the praises of AkaSkriller. I thought this guy was a thing of the past. Nope, he has only gotten bigger.
Most people know this guy is a Fraud... he takes the work of our developers (roms, themes, free/paid apps and posts it on his site... behind a $5 donate wall ( $5/month for ACCESS to others work ).
Read some of the below posts where developers have already posted conversations with this guy.... it's sad panda time here.
Not enough, read the lashing he took trying to "apologize" *fake/lying*
Master (Axura ROM) stated that he spoke with AkaSkriller about removing his ROM and he was told he would simply edit the build.prop as to be a different ROM... as if by editing this, it was somehow no longer Master's work!! Since then, there are just more developers supporting this....
This outraged me. I truly respect ALL of our developers, and this is just ONE example of probably 100's where this guy and his site have taken advantage of those in our community who are NOT familiar.
Sooooo........
I propose we do ANOTHER #NeverAgain Twitter campaign where we send out tweets telling people to not use this guys site... we inform people the $5 "donate" for access to files is absurd... and we try and point people to sites like XDA!
A place where we are truly geared to helping our developers/community
(not to make money off noobs).
Here is his site. I only link to it so you can see just how absurd it is. DO NOT give this guy any of your money.
ACTION:
Send out a tweet about it...
Post on your Facebook about it....
Email or send a tweet to other Android sites and ask them to tweet about it....
Sample Tweet (copy and paste if you like):
Sites requiring a donation for access to others work is wrong. Read this: http://goo.gl/l7vSO
I realize some of you think this is crazy/pointless. But it bothers me to have an element like that in a community I really do love.
And yes, I have a "Donate to Me" button. Only because someone volunteered to give me a donation before I had a link.
I've received MAYBE $30... imagine how much I could make on a site like that (near 600 thanks and I am NOT a developer)!
lets play the "I see $5 this many times" game... Maybe just a "thanks button" would work? Nagh, lets make a whole section.

We could also warn new users/subscribers of his YouTube account by posting comments on his profile page/videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/akaskriller
Edit: I found his real name (David Barkley) and his Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/akamilkweed?sk=wall) if anyone wants to go an evil route, use social engineering, etc to screw with him outside of the internet as revenge.
Good stuff. I may need to edit the title. I don't want to HURT him, more just want to prevent people new to Android/unfamiliar to think what he is doing is acceptable.
Posting on social media its a great tool, inc twitter/facebook/youtube, etc
I have asked popular android blogs to write about it today, here is hoping they care about the community as much as I do.
I'm on board, for no other reason than he charges for people to be able to get to his DL section to get his kanged and stolen roms. That, asking for payment, as per the Apache Open Source Licensing agreement that binds all Android OS builds, is absolutely illegal.
Edit - posted to my facebook, I was emailing with an admin on AndroidSpin yesterday, going to email him now and see if he will get this posted on AndroidSpin
Edit - AndroidSpin admin emailed
Here is some of what he has said to me via email in the past.
"you have put my life and my family life in danger" (How exactly would I have done that..?)
"my post have been change and now ill just really right all the roms u post and make them mine"
..and when I asked him to take the pirated apps off of his site he replied.
"sir thos are all app that are in 4share.com so go bug them ok
your mean"
"dude calm down hater"
I m on board I looked around on his website........... he is just copying other people stuff...........
These type of guys .....they are like weeds in my yard. Always popping up.
Remember all the hurt and problems He will now have are a result of his actions not ours.

He could use some lessons in grammar and syntax as well..........
Youtube account
I posted this message on his Youtube subscription page:
"All this guy does is STEAL other developer's work and put it behind a paywall. Don't believe me? Go to XDA forums and find all these ROMs and support for FREE!!!"
It may get deleted, but if everyone on here does the same, it will warn all the noobs that something is up.
I've reached my Thanks limit.. but truly grateful. I feel with enough social media effort we can really help.
For those not familar, my first #NeverAgain campaign was against Samsung.... shortly after, I received calls from them, they were following me on twitter and VERY soon after Froyo was given to us via kies.
my point? To my surprise, it really did work in my opinion (and others).

He does that on purpose. I've also had email conversations with him in the past when the first round of threads started about him. He pretends to not speak very good English. But just have a listen to his video, he seems to speak pretty good English in fact.
He will pretend to be a nice guy. Months ago during our email conversation, I talked him into making an apology thread here, which he did. I told him no one is trying to hurt him, Devs just want their credit.
This is the best thing we can do, just warn any new commers to not go and get robbed $5 a month for his stolen ROMS.

I hope so, this guy, who blatantly ignores the Licensing laws, seriously gets me out of my ZenDroid, and makes me /rage. I think if we can make this a big enough issue, something may be done by people more powerful than us, like Google who actually releases the software under the Apache Licensing terms. I know thats thinking on a grand scale, but its obvious this guy won't listen to us.

Yes it does and thank you for the catch and noticing this bad behavior so we all could help arresting it.
.....
I just submitted this to UncutAndroid:
I love Android. I love the Community.
Since my G1 days I have slowly evolved from total noob, to someone who helps answer questions daily on XDA, writing instructional guides, and now testing the waters in app development and theming. The reason I have progressed is the kindness of the community. Every themer/developer I have ever contacted has been so incredibly gracious with their time and sharing their talent. I truly respect these people – and you should too.
I say this so bluntly only because it’s that passion that fuels the article.
There are also many bad elements to the Android Community. The most notable in my opinion are the 3rd party paid app sites AND sites like www.akaskriller.com. I want to focus on the latter, but feel the need to point out those 3rd party app sites give you “free” paid apps, but they also give you App Permissions not requested by the original app – they are malicious.
Please do not be a self-inflicted victim over $0.99. You are on this site, you are smarter than that.
Back to my real intent here. For those not familiar, akaskriller is a site that has a nice front – and that is what it is, a front. They appear to be very genuine and caring, they act like they are helping developers, and they act like they want to help the Android noob.
Nothing could be further from the truth. They want money – money for others work.
Sites that offer others work (ROMs & Themes) behind a $5 donate wall (yes, you pay to get access) are wrong people. Not just wrong for those new to Android – those who genuinely need help and do not know better. But more importantly, it is wrong for the developers who work so hard to improve our phones, at no cost to us.
I am no expert on Apache/Licensing but I would have to assume paying/donating $5 for free software is wrong on a larger scale than I know how to address.
Those familiar with the Samsung Vibrant may recall a movement I suggested. It was called “#NeverAgain Samsung.” I proposed a social media blitz where we told Samsung on Twitter, blogs, Facebook and YouTube that we would not continue to buy their products if they would treat the Android Community the way they did – withholding updates and source.
Shortly after the movement started (and it grew FAST), I received calls from Samsung and they were following me on twitter Froyo and source was given to us via Kies. Perhaps due to our combined community efforts.
I am suggesting we have another outcry - an outcry that our community will not tolerate this. Let the community know this is wrong. I will not be formal and say “do this,” but do something.
Tweet about it, post on Facebook… heck, just tell a developer you appreciate them.
Since mentioning the idea of one developer has told me when he requested his ROM be removed from the site, he was told that they would simply change the build.prop so it was a “new ROM.” Taking away the work this developer did and making it their own.
This is wrong. Do something.

^ Thanks for posting on EDT man!!
Thank you all for informing us of this situation. It really makes me mad to see someone take what someone else has worked so hard on, and try and make it there "own". I really appreciate all the hard work our dev's do, and donate and pay for apps.
Have posted on Twitter.
thanks again for the information!
I didn't realize AkaSkriller was such a great themer!

A little guide to promoting your app

Promoting your app is one of the most important things you must do after relasing it, for some developers it's harder and for other it's easier;
More skilled and famous developers get automatically promoted by news websites as soon as they release an app, giving them an instant boost in downloads, unfortunatelly for us little developers we have to rely on out own strenghts.
There are a lot of ways to advertise your apps, some are free and for others you'll have to invest some money, some ways are better and some others are worse.
Free advertising:
Social networks:
The first thing that will come in mind for promoting an app is thru social networks, sharing the link for the play store with friends and other people is the best way to start, if someone likes your post they'll share it with others making it a viral spread of your word and your app
If you're a good developer and you make great apps it won't be difficult for people to talk about it
YouTube
Another great platform for advertising is YouTube, watching a short video is way better than reading something, and as always if it's enjoyable it will be shared by people.
There are 2 ways for advertising your app on YouTube.
1. Embedding an ad inside one of your videos like i did in those videos
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hglu42syEjA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrSszBzeSzo
2. Making a commercial video showing what your app can do, it's strenghts and why people should downlaod it, i didn't make one yet so i don't have anything to show you unfortunatelly
Make it good
The most obvious, make the app good, look at your competition, make the app better than their.
Something i see a lot in Android apps it the awful UI, the UI is the first thing people see, even before installing it, they can see the screenshorts of your app, and they decide if they want to install it or not.
Making a nice UI is important as the coding, if you're not a designer and can't do it hire one, there's a plenty of graphic designers willing to make a quick buck, maybe in exchange you can advertise his work, you can also contact me and we can arrange something.
Ways to attract users
Another great thing to do to attract users is to make some nice ads, spend a little time in photoshop and make some good feature and promo graphics for the play store, also when posting it in social networks etc. use those graphics, they'll attract more people than just plain text with a link
Here are some examples for my app Wakey
Feature:

"lightbox_next": "Next",

Get your app reviewed
One of the best ways to get your app promoted for free is to get it reviewed by an Android news website, when i got my app reviewed on XDA it went from 3-5 downloads a day to 300 a day
Partnerships
When i released Wakey i've been contacted by the writer of geekshavelanded.com and he gave me the opportunity to promote my app even further, i've put a link to his website in my app and he've put a little ad for Wakey in the sidebar, this way i get more downlaods and he gets his website promoted aswell
Discounts
If your app is paid or have in app purchases, a nice way to get noticed it's to make some discounts, usually on major holidays like easter, christmas etc, a lot of developers make discounts and a lot of websites post a list of discounted apps during that period of time
Other
There are also other ways to promote your apps, like i'm doing right now, by writing this guide i'm promoting my app Wakey, i'm using it as a reference for this article so when you see the links, the graphics, you view them because you'd like to learn about promoting your apps and not because i'm imposing you to do so.
So hopefully i'll gain some downloads and purchases by doing so, also you'll be supporting my development (see what i did there ? )
Paid advertising
Web ads
There are plenty of advertising services out there, like AdMob or AdSense, you can use those to promote your apps on different websites.
Another way is to contact a single website and talk about placing a custom banner on their website
Giveaways
This is a very simple but effective form of advertising, who doesn't want something for free?
You can post an article or a post on a social network about the giveaway (you can giveaway all sorts of things, from t shirts to smartphones etc.) people will be more interested in buying/downloading your app if they know they might win something
Printing
You can print some business cards and give them to people you encounter, also if you have a bigger budget you can print some billboards
TV/Radio commercials
Very effective way but also very expensive, but for bigger developers it might be a good solution
As i said there are a lot of possibilities, some more and some less effective, it's up to you choosing which one is the best for you, your app and your audience
You can follow me on G+ or YouTube where i will be posting some tutorials on android app design
Wakey on Play Store
YouTube
Google+ Page
Thanks for the helpful information.
I need to do some more research into what those feature and promo images in the dev console actually do. There wasn't much information there so I just left them blank. But I see how they may be useful.

Here's a little image to explain it, the feature image is the one shown on the page of your app, the promo image is the one shown when your app is chosen by google as "Staff pick"
If you're trying to get more downloads to your app, then updating your app every now and then is a must do.
I have done it and found it very helpful in increasing the numbers!
I would like everyone to know that I have started a free review service, so if anyone in the process of promoting their android app, they could consider requesting a free review from me!
Cool post man, thanks for sharing. Promoting, I've found, is quite hard for me and I'm not enjoying it too much.
When you say "I got my app reviewed on XDA", how did you go about doing that? It might be an idea for me to do that too.

By the way, how did your app reviewed at XDA and contacted with reporter?
I wonder that..

Thanks fir your great post. I have developed a developer app (see my signature).. is there a good way to reach the developers???
Great post!
Did you had any help from a professional designer? The app looks great!

Any tips on recording for YouTube or getting the app reviewed?
Is there any social network focused on app development?
Thanks!
For YouTube reviews I usually just search YouTube for people who do it and message them, asking if they'd like to review the app.
I also have a list of sites I email when I release a new app although being a small developer getting a response or even the email opened is difficult. I'd also say don't underestimate the power of the sites which have like 15 views, one of those 15 viewers might just write for LifeHacker
Cross promotion of apps if you have more then one is also a great way to get traction

Thanks for the suggestions, I won't underestimate small sites! Are you perhaps writing for LafeHacker? :fingers-crossed:
I'm concerned about the YouTube approach, for example:
Mute recording or discussed review? In that case, translated to every supported language?
3rd person custom recording or recording from a paid app?
Version for tablets and phones?
How impacts in the views/install having a YouTube review linked to the Google Play app site?

Ha ha I wish, my (peronsally) worst app got on LifeHacker but since then I haven't even been able to get a response from them lol
As for YouTube it's entirely up to you how you want to do it. Personally I prefer 3rd party reviews because what I would find the most interesting thing about my own app you average user wouldn't even notice. So for me a 3rd party review usually highlights what would attract people to the app. Having a video linked to your app page I would say is definitely a must though.
Nice article.. thank you!

Motorola Failure to Meet Update Commitments; Petition.

As many owners of Motorola's Atrix, Atrix HD, Moto E and other models know all too well...
- Motorola has not maintained an organized or regular update cycle for their devices.
- Motorola has repeatedly broken vague promises and hard commitments to update devices.
- This includes cases where the updates were promised on the Motorola website.
- This includes a case where the update was released with details posted on-line but was not actually delivered to the devices stated.
- There has been an instance where an OTA that was a 5.0.x update was displayed as 5.1.x when being installed.
- Some of the affected devices are not service provider branded (just Moto) so Motorola cannot blame the SP as they have in the past.
Picking up on an idea considered when Motorola backed out of their commitment to update the Atrix HD to Lollipop last year, an on-line petition has been created to let Motorola know this is not right. It is focused on the Moto E but is crafted so it can be signed by anyone who has been betrayed by Motorola's failed update commitments or want to see a better way of handling updates. If there is any resolution as a result of this petition, it is unlikely to extend far but we can still let them know about it.
https://www.change.org/p/motorola-f...utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink
Of course feel free to share details about pertinent experiences here in this thread but if you want Motorola to hear it, sign the petition and share the link to it. Also, For the Moto E you can make it known here at the Moto thread where details about the Moto E update are posted https://forums.motorola.com/posts/83391de77a?page=1.
Motorola once was, and should still be, capable of better than this!
------------------------------------
Nov 1, 2016, Greetings:
Motorola. Has finally updated most of the Moto E line to Android Marshmallow. Even some of the devices thought to be left off the update list (such as US retail single sim XT1511) eventually got Marshmallow, although sadly only after many boot-loaders were unlocked. Also, this Change.org petition for Moto E has been automatically closed (naturally expired), which was timely because it serves no purpose anymore, so I'll leave it expired and will ask to have this thread closed. I thank all who participated with signatures or in spirit. It was small in scope but every little bit helps.
One last thing: Although Moto E has been updated, Motorola has not mended it's poor updating ways and have done something similar (even worse by many measures) to yet another device, the Moto G3. There is a petition for that described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015...sprey-t3476321 which I encourage all affected to sign.
You should probably post this in AF also, if you've not already dine so.

If you mean Android Forums, I've dug up some links to old posts of mine there (or was it Android Central, I don't recall) but they did not seem like good spots for this. Still, it's a good idea. I should be able to find a suitable place at other forums, and am open to specific recommendations. Also, everyone should feel free to share the link to the petition.

I think you guys shouldnt give a penny to motorola instead of moaning to let them hear your voice. Motorola simply doesnt give the smallest damn about this kind of petitions. Tried and didnt work for numerous times. Dont buy motorola, dont let anyone around you buy motorolas, that is what motorola deserves for their customer relations, marketing and update lies.

Boycott is not a bad idea either but that sort of action may actually be harder to organize than efforts like a petition. Have you ever organized a boycott or a petition about this subject? The action of withholding dollars, and the action of creating a petition are not mutually exclusive. Unfortunately many of us already posses these devices and do not have the option to redirect money to a different device at this point but would still like to do something about it. There are no guarantees, but this type of pressure has been made to work before. For me personally, having first used Motorola gear in the form of gray brick shaped walkie talkies and under-dash radios in the 1980s, and since then always being impressed with whatever Motorola device I encountered across a wide range of hardware types; wanting to see Moto do better is part of this. Also, please do note that discouraging the petition and calling it "moaning" in the very thread where it is shared may not go over well.

I haven't organized a petition like this before but participated for atrix 4g ics update and xt910 bootloader unlock petitions back in time, the electronic signs were counted by nearly 10k and motorola didnt give the smallest damn about those, just igroned us. I am not here to discourage anyone but i posted just to say dont bother your precious time to tame a liar company in a friendly manner, not worth it. They dont listen to their customers at all. I also like motorola hardware and that is where it ends for me, everything else in motorola just have the stinkny worst smell of all. Their marketing, service team, software team are all the worst but they used to have good engineers, not sure if they still have them looking at their 2015 portfolio can be called at best pathetic.
Hope you guys get the updates you deserve for your devices though. Just dont buy anything else branded motorola in future, this will teach them better how to behave as a responsible company when they dont see money flowing into their vault.

Within one 18 word statement you contradict yourself. If you don't like the food being served then don't pull up to the table. Perhaps you could vent by creating an anti petition petition that discourages people from signing petitions, but whatever you do please take it elsewhere.
Not really surprised by this sadly.

Impressive that they got 16k and I agree with it in principal but that is a request to unlock bootloader, against which Motorola (and other device manufacturers) are well insulated legally. The same is not necessarily the case for provably failed published commitments to provide a product or service.

Thank you for the warm wishes, and for the details of the other actions, which I did find informative, helpful, and actually encouraging (although I still have modest hopes).
i am impressed the poll has 80 / 100 right now cool !
I wouldn't have had to rip my hair out today trying to install v5.1 onto my Moto-E if they update with my oem (Telus)
It sucks because i just wanted to run the stock rom
I got it installed but no matter what i tried i couldn't get the provider connection back for calls/txt's
What a drag too ..i swear it started up and ran fast than 5.0.2 (what i went back to)
Thank god i made a TWRP backup before meddling with things..
So hell yeah i voted
edit:
It's totally stupid they only updated *some of the oem's with 5.1
that is a massive slap in the face to those of us who missed out on v5.1 Lollipop !
I won't buy Motorola any more
Just a bit of an update. The petition now has 120 signatures which tells me that people must be sharing the link. Thanks to everyone who has signed and circulated it! I don't know what that really means in terms of the ability to exert some commercial pressure on Motorola but it does indicate that there are many people impacted by this, especially when you consider that there are likely large #s of people using the affected devices who don't participate in forums like this.
When I first gathered contact information for the petition, Motorola Customer Service provided an email address for the CEO that turned out to be incorrect. Fortunately I had others and sent a test email to see which would be rejected as invalid before creating the petition. Considering that experience, I've started searching outside the Moto support track for names and contact information for all of the Moto executives and departments that I can find to widen the target.
Thanks again to all who've signed, circulated, and provided constructive input.
[EDIT] Shared by user hyzteric at the Moto "excuse making forum" https://forums.motorola.com/posts/83391de77a?commentId=1000234#1000234 is news that the Mote E is still being sold which is really low.
http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-either-update-moto-e-or-stop-selling-it
I already knew this but had not considered the ramifications. They are still sticking it to new purchasers of those devices. Lower than low!

Soooo, although we differ on the merits of a petition we are in the same boat (betrayed by Moto) even if we may disagree on how to navigate it, and I must thank you for the details of the actions to which you referred. While hunting down email addresses of Moto's executives I also found the addresses from one of those previous actions. Between the ones I found that were not on that list and the ones from that list we now have a wider target for the petition.
Seriously - Thanks!
One thing I hope we have going for us this time is that it was/is not illegal for Motorola to decline to share their source code, but what they did this time might actually be illegal or at least actionable in a commercial sense.

Ultimate Note 5 Hybrid ROM Google Hangouts

For those of you who are interested in following me and keeping up with the progress of my rom projects here on XDA, I am on Google Hangouts. I have a general hangouts and my development only group on hangouts. However, due to the recent actions of select few individuals who purposely like to play child games by coming to my hangouts with the sole purpose of peeping through the window with no intentions of participating in friendly discussions and just to gather intel and go gossip in other hangouts by a so called "competitor", I am not currently adding new members to any of my hangouts. Until the childish games stop and things settle down, all of the sincere people who legitimately want to participate in my google Hangouts will have to wait until further notice.
For reasons that most of you are unaware of, some people think they need to "pick sides" and start trouble. I will not put up with this immature bunch of people who's sole intention is to stir up trouble. As you all know i am here with the sole purpose of helping people with their smartphones and providing a quality rom for your phones. There are unfortunately a small handfull of members here at XDA who have been running amuck and uploading stolen work from other honest developers. this is a fact and it is a problem. I have no control over these things but i can assure you that XDA and it's moderators will be doing the best that they can to address this issue the best way they can for the overall best interest of XDA. Honest, integrity and respect is something that i take seriously and i hope to see XDA maintain these qualities in their recognized developers and possibly implement new and improved rules and guidelines for developers in the near future. I will do what i can to give my input to the moderaters and hopefully they can come up with a solution to this problem once and for all. Untill then please follow my rom threads and participate in helping others if you can and just make youselves at home. Above all please have fun, enjoy your phones and be respectful to others in my threads. Thanks for reading!
Edit: My Google Hangouts invitation is now open. Please remember to PM me your gmail address so I can add you. And please also remember what i expect from everybody. No drama and no games. We have none of that now and it will stay that way. Feel free to talk about anything that you want just don't come to stir up trouble. that's all i ask. Thanks everybody.
Many thanks ror a great rom

Hey guys, I figured those of us wanting to be a part of the new Hangouts crew could at least begin by having some development conversation here. My vote is that we use this thread for some not - so - repetitive questions and maybe TX will shoot some beta type issues for us to work on until all of the drama fades away.
We will just keep the conversation to development only and the TX will have a place to draw some new comers from for his hangouts when he is ready.
