15 mb firmware update today. Whats new?

Just used manual update in my german note and had a 15 mb firmware. Doesn't break root. Any word whats new? Still at 2.3.6.

Could be preparation for ICS, Although that is just a guess.
Anytime i see anything about an update i just keep thinking it's ICS!!

Yep, same here ... Mine's an unbranded, unlocked UK note (XEU) and I'm getting nothing through Kies or manual update on the phone. Still on KKA.

I'm in the UK and got the OTA update yesterday. I'm running a German unlocked Note from Expansys UK. Cant see any differences though tbh. :/

I think that was already in KL7, the previous official update for German Notes...

I am in the UK and got the update on day one via kies.bought phone from Amazon.de

The update is only for german Notes. You can get it by manually download it and flash it. Did it myself yesterday.

How is it possible to receive official updates (stock roms) without flashing?
Please do not start telling me to read guides and so on... I worked on Android platform and after this experience I am aware how preparing roms and custom stuff is obviously a great challenge, gives you great satisfaction, but makes the phone be more prone to crashes, memory leaks and so on.

patient is a virtue tow weeks. when i bought my xoom, after 6 mounts of delays my daily routine was check for updates , not any more..

I'm sure you were joking but this actually does raise a point that people should take into consideration:
If the phone is bought from the UK but the firmware is German, then it will get German upgrades. If it's bought from amazon.de and has Chinese firmware then it will only get Asian upgrades.
It doesn't matter where you buy the phone from, it matters what country the firmware is directed at. I also own a UK note which has BRI as the sales code and I don't have any update even though I live in Finland.

Really funny... If it was only a matter of geographical location just a dns static route would fix the trouble of getting updates...

thanks, but i got locked bootloader =( however i just update and still we some apps working (do not need root, just root to install it then work without root).

Flashed correctly using Flashtool 0.9.15.0 and rooted using DooM's kernel.

Yes sir... The Japanese SOL23 version is 32GB but it is only registering 16 on mine since these versions are only made for the 16

Do you have the latest flashtool? I was on 0.9.13 and I got the same error code. I updated to 0.9.15 and I had no problems.
Everything is great, but I have one problem that seems to be common so far... I can't change the lockscreen wallpaper. Anyone else have that problem?

Wallpaper for me is OK.

QQ, what makes this ftf for Canada? Will flashing this on my Mexican Telcel C6906 affect it in any negative way?
Should I uncheck something in Flashtool during setup?

It shouldn't affect you in any way just carrier specific for Canada, there a lot local carrier's without any bloatware

Just flash the baltic ftf, its the same thing.

I flashed the Baltic ftf, I am on Bell in Alberta, everything is going great so far, battery gets better and better, camera is awesome. Haven't seen any issues on mine so far, and don't expect any...

I was under the impression that 4G and LTE are the same? My signal says 4G when I am in an area that supports it.

It's just an icon, mine says 4G and i'm still getting 74 - 77mbps from my carrier.

No worries, 4G and LTE are basically the same, and 4G+ and its equivalent LTE Advanced are the next generation standards, reaching speeds of up to 300mbps.

I checked now, there's a Mac version of Flashtool, you're lucky.
Download it from here:

You need to download Sony Bridge so you'll have all the necessary drivers:
http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/bridge-for-mac/
After you'll get the drivers working, I suppose Flashtool is pretty much the same, so you can use the same guide that's for Windows.

Z5 UK 32.0. A. 4.11 Firmware

Does anyone have a link to E6653 32.0. A. 4.11 firmware? I have flashed both taiwanese and central european versions of 32.0.A.6.152, but now have a couple of extremely annoying bugs, one is that wi-fi doesn't work for a 3-5 seconds after I turn the screen on. I have also tried repairing the phone, but issue still persists. Does anyone who have access to the ftf file mind posting one?

My questions was whether should I completely wipe everything since I switch from CE firmware to UK firmware (they have slight differences, like LTE and 4G toggles) or whether flashing without wiping will still do the job? Thanks!

The new firmware 28.0.A.8.260 is rolling out!

Good news, seems that the new FW 28.0.A.8.260 is rolling out today! First devices got that update in xperia firm, so lets hope for bugfix and better touch response!

Just downloaded and flashed via flashtool/xperia firm ..... no MM ... minor system update with bugfixes ... nothing new here ... Better performance scrolling, wiping etc. No more lags with nova launcher. Touch also seems better on first sight.

It offered me the update here in Austria with Bootloader unlocked Generic German FW .... But i couldn install because of the unlock so i went the flashtool/xperia firmware route ....now i miss the root on the new update -.-

Edit: After installing it, noticed an smoother screen scrolling and an AWESOME touch response, even with a 0.3mm thick tempered glass screen protector, the keyboard response is Perfect!!!

It should be no problem to flash directly to .260 with flashtool if the touch issues are better. Will update my device today with flashtool as pc companion don´t give me that option since yesterday...maybe the servers from sony mobile are not reachable within pc companion but flashtool and/or xperiafirm is the answer

You should create the ftf file with all the files downloaded with xperiafirm, than everything should work

androplus kernel is working on update, so I really hope that someone will make a flashable -maybe prerooted- image for TWRP.
I finally rooted+recovery after months of waiting, I'm really too lazy to restart from a FTF

One day after update my FW i think i can say it´s an improvement in touch! No problems so far will hope this problem is finally resolved!

Does anyone know if it would be safe to flash another region firmware to my tablet?
Needing this update but hasn't been released to me yet.
Mine has carrier branded firmware, they are infamous for releasing updates VERY slowly, if at all.
If it is safe, which region would you suggest?
I live in Australia.

Choose any FTF with should work with your preferred character set.
With the LTE versions there could be some differences with enabled radio bands or not. I would try a HK version first.
Head over to xperia cross devices. There you'll find a thread about unlocking all radio bands. Dunno if it works with SGP771.

I am having trouble getting it to boot into flashmode.
Every time I try, it just turns on?
I have reinstalled drivers, completed a factory reset.
It is driving me crazy!
Any ideas?
EDIT: I got it. Ended up holding down volume down while it booted off and it worked.

No .260 in the UK yet so I fancy "flashing". Just one question, I understand that I can use firmware from almost anywhere but what does "customized" mean in the Xpreifirm tool? I have an unbranded SGP712 so don't suddenly want to be locked into a vendor's bloatware!

A word of caution if flashing an ftf. Make sure MXTP is disabled - especially if you reset after flashing or you will brick your tablet. This because I was stupid and forgot, resulting in my tablet having to go away for repair. Point of note - Sony UK offered to fix it but quoted 7 - 10 days turnaround. O2 did it in 3.
