I made a nice bootanimation. for devices (gt-p5210) which need qmg files to play.

How to change boot animation for rooted SGS?

I have rooted my SGS and would like to change the boot animation to the original. I have already got the original boot animation .png files but I do not know how to replace it to current animation files.
Anybody?
if they are in the .qmg format, then i think you have to push your .qmg file to
system/media/
if they aren't then you have to make an update.zip file and put the files in appropriate folder and update your phone.
search the forum for more info on how to..

[Q] Bootanimation replacement *.qmg vs *.zip

I've changed bootanimations before on other devices, but the file was always called "bootanimation.zip." Looking at the files in the SGS5, I see 3 different "boot*.qmg" files, but no "bootanimation.zip."
Since we don't have a custom recovery yet, I'm hesitant to rename the *.qmg files and drop in a "bootanimation.zip" I created for my SGS4 into the same folder. Is there some new way to replace bootanimations on an SGS5 due to the *.qmg file extension, or it's safe to just rename/delete the *.qmg files and drop in the "bootanimation.zip" file into the appropriate folder?
I'd hate to get stuck in a bootloop and have to odin back to stock only to be unable to fully "restore" my phone's settings afterwards (yes, I have TiBu & other apps that'll allow me to restore, but it's certainly not as easy or as complete as restoring a nandroid backup).

Thank you very much for the direction. While I'll give it a shot a later, that still won't allow me to replace the default bootanimation w/ the ones I've previously created. The bootanimation.zip files I want to use only contain *.png files (the *png's are in "part0" folder and there is a desc.txt file in the parent directory). There are no *.qmg files in those zip's to extract, so that process won't work for me & the bootanimations I'm trying to use.
Any other ideas, or is my only option to use something like the Samsung Theme Designer process? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696914)

Contact the maker of the OP of the thread with the boot animations, I'm pretty sure he/she can help you out converting the files. It's been done before in that thread.

What the heck, man. Stop helping me so quickly!
Thanks again!!

PNGs are back. No QMG in System files!

I will start modding some APKs in the new lollipop rom. But every APK have QMG images instead of PNG files. There's a tool made by Xperiacle called QMG2PNG tool which seems to help with this. But I don't know what I do next:
For example: I want to modify SystemUI.apk so I open QMG2PNG and I let the app work. Now I have the PNG files. Then what? Do I import them in SystemUI in PNG format or do I need to convert them to QMG again?
Thanks!
EDIT: Nevermind! Decompiled SystemUI and there's NO Qmg files! Theming will be easier with lollipop!
That's excellent news!

Bootanimation wont load

Hello guys,
I am new to XDA forums and also new to customizing my own Theme.
Following few tutorials and possible fixes, I did not manage to get my S4 i9505 to load my bootanimation that I created.
MY PHONE:
GT-I9505
11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-jflte (CyanodenMod Version)
4.4.4 (Android version)
BOOTANIMATION.ZIP:
part0
image00.png - image17.png
part1
image18.png - image21.png
desc.txt
1080 1920 48
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
The above is my content inside BOOTANIMATION ZIP. Compressed with WinRAR using "STORE" as compress mode. PNGs developed with Adobe Photoshop. DESC was written in NOTEPAD.
2. Copied the .ZIP into my sdcard folder form Computer.
3. Opened File Manager with escalated Root Priviliges.
4. Selected my bootanimation.zip and copied it inside system/media/ .. overwritting previous bootanimation.zip
4.1 After some suggestions on web, I also copied one copy to root/data/local
When I reboot my phone, the CyanogenMod boot is no longer, but neither does it load my bootanimation.
It just loads some standard "android" animation.
Can anybody please help me?
Best,
WW
Did you change permissions to rw-r--r-- for the file in /system/media? Did you make sure no other files were stored in the zip, like a thumbs.db file? Check, because both of these are sufficient to stop the boot animation from functioning.
Two other related issues I see. Issue one is the number of frames per second. 48 frames/second seems a bit fast. Are you sure you want that? Issue two is that you need to delete the boot animation from /data/local if you already have a copy in /system/media.

please help me i want to change my boot animation... thanks
Samsung's Touchwiz doesn't support bootanimation.zip but the QMG format. Search the S4 Themes and Apps subforum as there is a thread with custom boot animations in it that are compatible with Touchwiz. One of those should work for you. Otherwise you have to make your own, which requires Samsung software on the PC.
