[Q] Rooting the SM-G900S - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help with a small problem? I have a S5 the model number is SM-G900S_V01
I understand this is the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900S (Korea version) I wanted to root it and apply another ROM as there are some aspects of the ROM that fall short of the European version.
I have a couple of questions really, and would be most thankful if someone could answer them for me.
When I try to root the device by holding the Volume Down, Power and Home Buttons the the screen as seen below, lots of writing I can't understand, I am guessing it's Korean!
Try as I might I cannot get Odin to see the phone, the only other way I can change this screen is to hold the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons, then I get the other screen, I think this is the recovery screen and not something I need. So my questions are as follows:
1 Can I install the European version of the OS even though it's region is set to Korea?
2 Can anyone tell me how to get into the download screen so I can get Odin to work?
Thanks in advance for any help you maybe able to give me.

Yeah!
I have the same problem.

So...
is there some solution for this problem?

SO many knowledgeable people on here and no one can answer this question. I have searched google and all xda still nothing. Surely someone must know if we can install the SM-G900F uk stock firmware on the SM-G900S korean version

Yea....
I have the SAME phone. i need to kno how to update it so i can root it and move the hell on from this stock factory crap...

Maybe you all already know, but there is CF-Auto-Root for the SM-G900S.
And TowelRoot may also work for this device ... if its firmware is not too new. (Samsung patchd its latest firmware versions so that the exploit which TowelRoot uses for rooting.)
Sorry if the info comes too late ...

I'm in the same ship , i have the same phone . BTW is any way to go in service mode to this phone ?about the towelroot , is not working for the phone with kernel after 3 june , so mine is from 25 june 2014. Hope is someone out here how can help us to make this root !TIA

Help needed !

Do you find something to resolve the phone ? I am in the same situationes like you .

Finally the answer, well I think it is
Okay, after a lot of messing about I can tell you that this phone is a copy from China, it is a good copy at that, but the point being, you can do much with it to be fair. As far as I know there isn't a way to put another rom on it, but I did find these YT vids some help is explaining it all a little bit more.
Hope that helps someone

[Q] Which s4 varient do i actually have?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but i just bought an s4 unbranded ( i'm in australia by the way ). 16gb internal memory, arctic blue colour and jb 4.2.2.
Which varient is this?
Boot into download mode. there you can see your model.
from that reply i now know i need a litre of coffee! I checked for an update on the phone and found there was one so now i'll wait for the download to finish and hopefully, it will be something that i can see on the live samsung updates site. After that i can root the phone.

I have questions about Samsung Galaxy J series, specifically the J3 Virgin Mobile

I have a few questions for anyone familiar with the Samsung Galaxy J series, specifically the J3. I have virgin mobile, and after a long time suffering with their HTC Desire 510, I want to upgrade, and not wanting to spend $400 on a galaxy S5 , the J3 seems the next best phone to get. However, as I've grown used to having a rooted phone and customizing my phone as much as I want, etc, I want to make sure my next phone can be rooted, and has support for custom ROM's, etc.
The main thing that could help me with my decision would be some guidance as to whether other versions, the J2, J5, J7, etc, that are present here would be potentially compatible with the J3, or if I'm out of luck and should consider other options if rooting is a necessity for me.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Anyone?
I'm sure you can root it.
I'm using j5 and it took me like 15 minutes of reading and about an hour /including downloading and setting up all the things /for the root.
I just want to say that you would need to be prepared to wait until someone make a custom Rom for it.

Thats what I was thinking. I figure that rooting it (hopefully) is similar to the other J series. As long as its rooted, wouldn't I be able to (even w/o custom rom) debloat/customize/etc it with various root tools, apps2sd, etc? Or are those dependent on having a custom rom? On the only phone I've rooted so far (htc desire 510) I didn't really spend any time with stock rom when I rooted, instead immediately flashing Nonsense rom, so I'm not sure what limitations keeping stock rom comes with when rooted.
Thank you for the reply! It gives me a bit of hope at least.
I'm not really familiar with the device. As I said before I have a j5. According to the applications that you mentioned I think that it would be possible to get and install them. But rooting isn't quantum mechanics. There are some apps that you could easily install on almost any device and get the root privileges. For example kingroot I am sure you can find others. I usually root my devices trough pc.I recommend you to take some time before jumping on the first option that comes up as a possible solution.
According to changing the stock Rom. I don't known how developed is that treat so.. Again read here and there about it.
GL!
Let me know if I helped by hitting the thumb up
I dont think permanent root is going to be possible until a working twrp is made so that you can flash supersu. I know that sux, I wanted to get one for my wife because she broke the screen on her vm s3. But without root and the ability to get unlimited hotspot... nope. I asked a dev ( lrs121) if he would port twrp to it. He said he would try if I had the phone and could get him the necessary files from it. Look in the sprint s3 section under twrp for virgin and boost s3. He is a great dev.
Actually far as I can say there are 2 twrp options. you just have to read more

Read where? Could you be a little more vague?
I am by no means a noob, and when I answer someone, I generally throw in a link.
But thanks for letting me know it exists.
Is it another phones twrp that works? Any hints at all?

Sorry i was on the phone while traveling. I`ve mistaken that it was about the j5 ( like mine device) and for that especially i had tried 2 working options up to now for twrp. but i`m pretty sure you can find tutorials or you can even simply DL the twrp /for example/ 3 install it as an apk and than you if it stuck just would need to DL odin for your PC and than strictly follow the steps / install /unzip odin, connect device , go into DL mode and flash it with the stock ROM which you can find in sammobile /.com i guess/ ?
GL and hit thanks if i helped!

Is there a reliable way to root my S7 Edge SM-G935A?

I'm not very tech savvy, but rooting this model (S7 Edge SM-935A) seems to be hard according to what I have found. I would like to root it and get rid of all the bloatware and try a custom ROM, but don't want to mess things up. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks very much for any info.
I have an AT&T S7 Edge and wanted to get rid of the bloatware also. I installed this ROM and all is working great. I didn't root device but I have no bloatware. It also get's OTA updates quick.

Not really difficult. Need a special version of odin, modded by someone who goes by the alias Prince Comey. Then must rught click on the exe file in winblowz and select 'run as administrator'.
The non-modded versions will error out and won't complete the flashing process. Must be careful, and be sure that you are are flashing the correct files for your particular phone. I rooted my AT&T S7 Edge by flashing just one file.
The trickiest part is finding the files for your variant, whether it's AT&T, Verizon, or other. Also must install the usb driver for Samsung and the adb driver, both on your windows computer.

I'm in the same boat and I think this is the link that leads to the Odin you want.

There is no engineering bootloader available for Oreo yet, so you will have to drop back to Nougat. From there, you can either go with AT&T firmware or the Unlocked firmware, depending on how badly you want WiFi calling and VoLTE. (If you aren't an AT&T customer, this is a really easy call).
Just going with the U firmware will remove the vast majority of the bloat right out of the box. You can root it and get the rest, but I haven't found it to be worth the effort, as the U firmware is pretty good as it is.

Samsung S7 edge and S7 flat variants do not allow TWRP to remain installed upon rebooting. There are ways to still root with it however. I found a post on X.D.A. that states SM-G935A ( AT&T variant of the 7s Edge ) runs fine after flashing the SM-G935U firmware. I had flashed it without issues myself, however I never tested it before running across the comboRom that I was originally looking for. Just place all 5 files in the correct positions ( BL,AP,CP,CSC,USER) of Odin. If Odin is only allowing you to 4 spots to flash. You need to use a different version of Odin. I used the "patched" version of Odin. Unsure if that is one and the same as the prince version.
S7 Edge while 'rooted' at least by the way I had rooted them. Runs very very HOT and lags to the point of annoyance.
So if you 'think' you need to root your phone. Make sure you need to first and fore most because was a back and forth headache to root. make changes, then unroot. then test. then root again. then test agian, then unroot.. etc.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/development/easyroot-unroot-t3859762
that link is for bootloader V4 to root.
When flashing SU make sure you use the system version and not the system-less version if you follow the instructions for OREO (Android version 8 ). The instructions I originally followed never stated that aspect and I had gone in circles for an hour until i discovered the problem.
Verizon variant had a few different ways to root/un-root, with different walk-thrus of which I 'think' would work with different carriers. Just instead of using the S935V firmware, You would just need to use your carriers firmware while flashing it with Odin but I could be wrong so please double check the comments of whichever way you choose to root your phone for someone else with similar question/concerns as yours.
If you had been using your phone after the messages were deleted ( especially if its been awhile since you deleted them ) then you are likely S.O.L. However if it's worth the time spent for you to try, then it's worth the effort to try.

This thread is only 1 page long with 10 previous posts before yours. Out of those 10 posts, 3-4 of them describes what you're seeking...
Guessing you saw the threads title and bcuz of that you clicked on it and asked your question. Did it ever dawn on you that your question is nearly identical to the title of this thread? This is how forums work, if a threads subject is similar to the subject that you're interested in then, the thread may contain your answer. Next, is where quite a few folks seem to really struggle, sort of like yourself but it's ok, everyone was new once. This is where you'd want to pay close attention, really concentrate and use every bit of brain power to focus on this next step. I'm going to reiterate, just in case I lost ya: You just located a thread that it's title is very similar to a question that you have (you did a good job searching & your instincts to click/open it are on point, well done). A threads title tells you that the discussion(s) inside there relate to that topic. Upon opening the thread, you'll see rectangles vertically aligned, when members add thoughts or ideas to the topic, they're separated by the rectangles. They're arranged in chronological order the top being the first, the most recent or latest entry being the bottom. And thats how forums like this one and many others work. Pretty simple idea, I think, yet its highly effective.
Now, with this knowledge, Im sure your already 10 steps ahead of me, but I'll mention anyway for anyone else. To fully utilize the resourceful contents here, as it contains vast amounts of invaluable info, one must simply READ and COMPREHEND info that pertains to the subject that brought you here. That means reading (& understanding what you just read), each one of the posts inside the threads. No really, it really is that simple! Unless your device is new, theres likely someone who already asked your question or someone already posted a set of instructions describing the task youre needing. You can test this theory with this same thread youve commented in.
Amazing isn't it? By now, you've probably already figured it out and concluded that posting your message which mirrors the first one here wasn't necessary, nor was including your phone number.. If it wasnt already obvious, you're the lone outcast whom shared their number on a public forum. Most of us here, refrain from such similar activity, since the forum has option to directly contact members via the internal private messaging system. Some highly value their privacy and anonymity. But I cant decide for you, obviously you're comfortable with it.
......
@Talysdaddy
So that was the most condescensing, egotistical, and just blatantly rude response I have ever seen given on this site.. I promise you, I have a very impressive ability to retain knowledge, but considering I was on this site in the first place due to the fact that I have never been interested in, or ever even attempted to mess with my phone before in any type of way, I am slightly uneducated on this PARTICULAR topic. However, that IS NOT because i lack the ability to learn, comprehend and/or retain information, understood?
It is due to the fact that I have never sat down and educated myself on it.. WHICH BY THE WAY, is WHY I'm on this site in the first place, you know that IS the entire PURPOSE of this site? ....
You see how that works? .. Let me break it down for you! Pay close attention and try to follow me and actually comprehend what I am saying! (if you're able to, that is). ANYWAYS, as I was saying, I CAME TO THIS SITE TO TRY TO EDUCATE MYSELF on something I NEEDED to educated on! ALSO to be able to interact with other people, and ask those people questions! To be able to recieve responses from those people, in order to obtain the information THAT I CAME HERE FOR! WHICH BY THE WAY, IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS SITE IS SUPPOSED TO BE USED FOR! Hopefully I have yet to lose you, because this is the most important part! Let's try to read this next part, and actually try and COMPREHEND and UNDERSTAND what I'm saying. I CAME HERE TO USE THIS WEBSITE IN THE EXACT WAY THAT IT IS MEANT TO BE USED! .. To be able to share information! To exchange information! And to obtain information that I am not privy to or an expert on prior to visiting the site!! .. If I was educated on these things I WOULD NOT BE HERE!! Obviously! Soooooo, instead of being an arrogant and cocky JERK, do EVERYONE on this site a huge FAVOR, and next time NOT leave such a RUDE, SMART COMMENT!! Thanks!
P.S. isn't it funny how just from that comment, I could tell you exactly what you look like, the life you live, how insecure you are in yourself, and how you deal with that by trying to belittle others, in an attempt to make yourself feel superior.. BUT, and yes, there is a BUT!! Just because you might know more about this topic than myself, absolutely does not make you ANY more intelligent than myself.. Because I promise, anybody who leaves the response that you left, when I am using the site for its specific purpose in the first place, welllll... let's just say anyone who would do that, and who would do it to boost their superiority complex as a defense to their pathetic insecurities, well, let's just say I would bet my life on the fact that my IQ would make yours look SORT OF like you TRIED to make me look and feel when you left that comment
That's all, hope you find something better to do with your time than this in the future.. it is kind of sad! If you're not here to help, then don't comment! That goes for everyone's posts! Jerk.

S8 plus ussd problems, call forwarding

Hi first post here but not a complete newbie. But this time I'm stuck big time and would appreciate some help.
I've got a s8 plus that recently started playing up. All of a sudden it started not being able to make or receive calls. But I noticed it only happened when the "conditional call forwarding active" message didn't appear when dialing. I figured it had something to do with call forwarding so try to change the settings on supplementary services settings but when I tried to enter the settings an error message appeared "failed to read data" I tried sending the code manually to cancel voice mail *#022# to see if it would work but I got "connection problem or invalid mmi code" so assumed it could be that the phone is trying to check with the network the forwarding settings as the call starts but for some reason it cannot communicate with it as the mmi codes don't seem to working?? (I'm not that knowledgeable in that area) I tried all the fixes online for the "connection problem or invalid mmi" but none work so I flashed the firmware through Odin even tried a few different ones, I've been playing around with Odin for a while so I'm comfortable with it, I even flashed a pit once for a note 4 that was bricked (just saying so you can see I'm comfortable with using it, not an expert just comfortable) but nothing has fixed my problem my phone is a g955fd running pie and one UI with the latest security update. I've read the duos have some issues with this. I've tried other sim cards on my phone from different carriers and the problem is the same and I'm using my sim on a borrowed phone and no problems. I'm assuming the problem goes deeper than the firmware, could this problem be boot loader related? Would a nand erase and reinstalling the boot loader fix it? Everything else works 100%
Someone please help me, the phone I'm borrowing is an apple and every day I have it I feel weaker and dumber, it's like kryptonite.
Sorry for the long post but I've been browsing xda forums for years and I know that you guys always say to share as much info as possible. By the way I've searched and couldn't find a thread about this but it there is one I promptly apologize and just ask for the link to it if not thanks in advanced.

After, flash odin last firmware stock sammobile

Thanks for your reply deadedge7
As I said my s8 + is a duos g955fd variant and has an Exynos processor, I'm not sure that rooting it would make much of a difference, as to my understanding rooting doesn't really change the boot loader it just allows you to install a custom recovery and roms. Which is not much different to reflashing a stock rom for all intents and purposes , but I might give it a try anyway. I guess that maybe a rom like the one in the thread you shared might give me some more hidden codes access as a root but I'm not sure. I will try to find a root like it for my variant unless you know of one and can point me to it.
Thanks

Thanks

No solution so far. I've rooted the phone and install a couple of custom ROMs but still nothing. I'll try and roll back the firmware and see what happens. I'm no expert but I still think it is fixable. If I find a solution I'll post it on this thread. If you find one please share. My solution at the moment is getting a galaxy A50, very comparable performance with the S8 and really cheap.

I'll keep that in mind. Couple of things to note: I don't get the message conditional call forwarding active. I don't think I ever have.
I tried a different carrier SIM card(T-mobile) and it worked (I'm on At&t). I was able to make and receive calls. Even tried an out of country SIM card and received calls. But my At&t SIM works on other phones perfectly. Go figure lol.
The only other reason I can think of is maybe cos it fell a couple of times from the couch. About 1.5ft. New case kept making it slide off.

Unlocked galaxy s8 sm-g950u Questions

Hi,
I have a couple questions. I'm in no way shape or form a professional or expert. So plz forgive me if I dont use the correct words or if I just flat out dont know the term but I'm also not a complete newbie I have rooted a few phones and I have repaired a few phones as well as pcs. To be honest I wouldnt even say that my knowledge is intermediate either. Sorry just wanted to give a warning. Ok now on to my questions... I own a galaxy s8 obviously why would I be posting in this fourm if I owned anything else right. Its unlocked but i bought it from cricket my model number is sm-g950u as of right now its tmobile. (Sorry if some of this stuff is unimportant just trying to give as much information as I can) not sure if anyone would need the build number or Knox version or anything if you do just ask i have np giving it this is already long and I havent even asked my questions yet... I got my s8 when it first came out and of course I wanted to root it bc theres some apps i use that needs root. I seen that with the s8 if u root it you actually lose part of the battery(like it wont charge 100% anymore) so I decided to wait and see if that could be fixed... 1st question has that been fixed? I'm not worried about warranty.. honestly this might make me sound really dumb maybe but should I be worried/careful about tripping knox or is that just for people worried about warranty? Last question I believe can someone recommend a root that I can use for my unlocked s8 thank you and again sorry it's so long
One more thing I'm not really looking to change rom or kernels or anything like that with root just wanting to have twrp (or some kinda custom backup) be able to use a keymapper, and do stupid stuff like change font and etc.

Unfortunately you cannot install any type of custom recovery on the snapdragon(US) version, there is a guide to get root using odin(Samsung firmware flasher) and some custom firmware files, I don't have the US version so the best thing to do is look at this post and have a good read:
