[Q] Nexus 7 2013 Screen Glue - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
in process of replacing digitizer and screen on my 2013 Nexus 7.
The replacement screen I have received has no screen tape on it.
Someone recommended 3M 300LSE tape to secure new screen into bezel and cutting to fit.
Good idea or is there anything more preferable?
Thanks

[Q] Dust behind the screen

Hi,
I just got a Nexus 7 and my screen have a problem, I think that a dust is trapped behind the glass (see attached image). I'll return it to the support but how long it will take to have a new one?
Thanks!

[Q] Nexus 7 Untraditional Screen Replacements

Greetings everyone!
The other day my wife's bag fell out of the car while she was exiting without either of us noticing. Inside that bag was her Nexus 7, which I promptly ran over with my car.
Much to my surprise, everything is perfectly functional as far as I can tell. Bluetooth, WiFi, Brightness settings, OTG, charging, etc... all great. The only thing I ruined was the screen of the thing.
Knowing the cost of a screen replacement, I think I'll forgo getting a new one. (I gave her one of my other N7s so this one is now a hack-device!)
My question for the fine folks of XDA is a two parter:
a) How can I safely remove the shattered screen bits without causing further damage?
b) What would be a good material to place over it once I have it removed? Glass? Some special plastic?
My idea is basically to end up with a non-touchscreen device and use OTG and ADB to maneuver around in it.
Thanks in advance!
I take it only the touchscreen glass is cracked and the LCD is OK?
If the surface of the glass is cracked but intact, just cover it with a screen protector. If the glass has shattered, you will have to carefully cut the LCD from the digitizer as the two are bonded together. Since the LCD is very thin, you might crack it.

I've experimented with a cracked screen. The lcd assembly is bonded over its whole area to the glass. The glue is softened by temperature (too hot to handle) but I was unable to separate a small piece. It's possible that heat + solvent could work but as bigbop says there is there is a massive risk in further damage

LCDs typically use a metal frame to hold everything in place. I have removed the guts of the LCD from a frame in order to make it easier to remove the frame from a digitizer on an old PDA. It may be possible to do the same with the Nexus display but you will have to remove the tape around the edges of the display away and bend the small clips holding the guts in place.
I think the frame is only bonded around the outside edge.

Great tips guys, thanks a lot. I'll post some pictures of how it goes if it works out.

Nexus 4 + Cruzerlite cases

Quick question, I was interested in a Cruzerlite Bugdroid Circuit case for my N4, but I was wondering if the case would lift up my screen protector (using a Extreme Guard protector, covers the glass edge to edge). If anyone with some experience with the case and a full covered screen protector let me know how it worked out for you I'd appreciate it.

I have a cruzerlite case. It does not have the lip around the edges. So it won't cause the screen protector lifts.

Anyone else have any info on this? I'd like to get some more opinions or info from more people so I can get a good general idea if it does lift screen protectors or not before I purchase cause shipping to Canada is damn expensive from Cruzerlite. From the videos I've seen it seems like it would since it covers some bezel so I would assume when putting it on it would, but if it's a tight enough fit I'm assuming it may or may not lift the screen protectors (wet apply types) either if put on properly right away,
You will need to head over to the accessory department of the Nexus 4 forum.

[Q] nexus 4 screen replacement?

hello i had a broken screen on my nexus 4, i bought a replacement from etdtradesupply and i replacement the screen myself. everything was working fine for the last day and then the screen/digitizer became unresponsive? my question is - do you think its the screen replacement thats faulty or do you think it could be that silver tape that wraps around the digitizer, because i was only able to get the top part off the old one, the bottom metal plate has not silver tape.
Thanks.

Cracked Nexus 4

Hi guys, so my dad dropped his Nexus 4 and the screen cracked and is unresponsive. There is also a red discolored spot on the screen. I am just wondering if I need to replace only the digitizer or both the digitizer and also the LCD. Thanks guys and Happy New Year!

It's far, far easier to replace the entire front assembly. Digitizer is only $20, but it requires specialty equipment (more money) and a lot of skill to do properly (which you probably won't), Assuming only the digitizer needs replacing. The screen assembly is about $45, but still requires you to remove it from the bezel and glue it back in. $60 for one already inside a brand new bezel.
