[Q] Volume changes sporadically on AT&T Galaxy S5 - can I log changes? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 bought through AT&T, and the volume (ringer/system volume from silent to vibrate to loud and vice versa) seems to change sporadically on its own. I'm unable to identify the cause. I put the phone into safe mode, and as far as I know, it doesn't change the volume on its own when in safe mode, so I have reason to believe it's from an app I installed. I currently have Volume Locker installed as a temporary solution. This problem never happened on my Galaxy S3 through AT&T, with no different apps installed after upgrading. I do not have any apps that change the volume profile.
Question: is there a way I can log (in real-time) volume changes and also the apps that put in the request for these changes?

I've never hear of an app like that, but it's most likely turning on in your pocket. The S5 has very high tough sensitivity so even in your pocket it can change things without you knowing.

I thought the same thing too, but I've left my phone completely alone, and it'll still switch sound modes on its own. It has to be an app.
Anyone have any ideas on this app business or logging? In Developer options, there's a setting where I can turn on OpenGL traces...could this possibly monitor actions? I have no idea how to use it and don't know what it does.

I don't mean to be rude, but why not just get it replaced instead of going through all this?

Not rude at all. I actually already replaced it once, and it's doing the same thing. My fault for not mentioning that sooner. If asked why not get a different phone, the answer is because I don't want to.

I tried posting my app list after getting it from the app you recommended, but I keep getting the error message: We are sorry, your post was flagged by our system and was blocked from submitting. If you believe this was in error, please contact an admin to report this.
I sent an email to the developer of the website, so hopefully s/he will get back soon.

MOD - HTC Dialer with haptic disabled...

I had posted this under development but figured that's probably more for roms and maybe better suited here. So apologies for the double post.
I like the HTC Dialer (find contact pictures load quicker than on the stock android contacts app), but the haptic feedback annoys the hell out of me.
So I took a look at how JsChiSurf disabled haptic feedback in the Hero's HTC Dialer app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660506). Turns out it was pretty easy to port the same changes over to the HTC Dialer that comes with the Desire.
I've tested this on my Desire running Leedroid 2.2a and it works like a charm. Obviously I offer no guarantees, and make sure you have a nandroid backup to restore to just in case.
Just install the attached zip from recovery.
Nice, i will try it.
Will this work for non sense roms?

Works on LeeDroid 2.1a also. Thanks man, I've been waiting for this. Now lets get a word arround...

Glad to be of help, it's one of those things where it was really getting to me so I figured I'd do something about it. It was surprisingly easy in the end and has encouraged me to try other things

maybe you should update your rom ?
Its old bro
why not just turn it off in the options? sorry but i can't see what your trying to achieve ???
settings>>sound>>vibrate feedback []
then you shouldn't get the vibration.
the option under keyboard controls the vibration for that separately..

Ok you've either misunderstood me or not tried this yourself.
The HTC Dialer gives haptic feedback when you press each number on the pad. This cannot be disabled from settings.

Where? I've disabled all vibration/haptic options under those settings and the dialler still vibrates.
Can you give me a clue where else it could be rather than post so cryptically?

No I thought he meant maybe 'diablous' is right and it's a user configurable option.
Either way, it's made the thread very confusing so if diablous or TieT reckon there is a way to turn it off without flashing the zip I wish they'd just say how to do it or admit they were wrong.
It's not a user configurable option. You have to flash this zip. There is an option to turn off haptic feedback but it does not affect dialer.
I've been using this only one day, and what a change! With an average of 110 outgoing calls, dialer eats 20% of my battery. Multiply by 3 vibrations per call - how much battery did I just save? A LOT! Thanks, again, it feels like a new phone altogether.
Thanks for clearing it up kumprise, I wish people wouldn't post if they don't know what they are talking about, I wasted about 10 minutes going through options thinking I was going mad.
Now flashed the zip, thanks very much z0mbi!

Did. Not noticing anything as of yet. But I still kind of want to know what it is
It appears to also have a sub-class called "remote", so I kind of wonder if this is doing any sort of external data transfer.

I am not 100% sure...
But I ran some CIQ tests to see if it was involved with that and it was not.
I removed it 100% from my soon to be current ROM with no notable ill affects.
However, soley by the name and what you just pointed out about the sub class...
I would guess you that its some sort of IQ Agent that will take a drop box of data and transfer them to LG like Samsung does.
Just an educated guess.
Has anyone figured out yet what this is? It can be disabled without root, freeing up memory. But I'd like to know what I'm disabling.
Does it have to do with the context app that lets you quickly go to a contact or search based on what text says

I think you're talking about text link which can be disabled without root.
I was looking at another forum, it has something to do with auto connecting and managing connections (wifi, gps, bluetooth, etc.)
Mine is weird and I turn it off, and wifi doesn't turn on by itself anymore (good thing) my wifi used to randomly turn on oddly. but yea. Idk, just a thought out there.
I wonder if this is the utility that does the Wi-Fi-4G handoff for MMS.
I lost that ability and couldn't figure it out.

You are on to something here.
I sent a mms over Wi-Fi success, then froze LG Intelligent Agent and tried to send over Wi-Fi and fail. Turned Wi-Fi off sent mms and the picture went.
Not sure what the program does but it appears to have something to do with network messeging.

I've tried a lot of methods but none seem to really worked. I managed to bring out the camera sound menu to appear in the camera app but when I tap on off, it doesnt respond and it still stays on.

Uh no, there's not.
In quite a significant number of countries (mroe commonly know as '98% of them'), disabling the camera shutter is forbidden under the privacy law. Thus, the option to disable it, even by silencing system, is removed.
The problem isn't the system, it's the paranoid privacy laws.
You could flash DBT, Germany isn't as paranoid as other countries, and you can still shut up the shutter by using vibrate or silent mode.

Yes thats what I figured. When I had my S4, I had a problem too with the camera sound so I flashed a different firmware from another country and it went well.
Problem is, my phone is the n9002. Only China has the working firmware for this phone.
You can just replace the actual sound files with empty files, can't you? That usually works...

I confirm it works on my Note 3 as well (4.4.2 root)
nothing i have tried seemed to work ... the sounds are now located under /system/media/audio/uiOFF ... in previous versions might have been in ui folder, at least this is what i found on the formus ... anyhow renamed all the camrea sounds to .bak but inside the camera the sound is still on so i have changed the actual sound files inside the apk like jisoo mentioned
found this

the apk posted in the first post did not work for me on 442 but did this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51350985&postcount=30
hope this helps others ... sure thing was so frustrated with the camera sounds myself until now.
This works for me perfect since weeks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502522
Try it - No root required
nothing seem to work for me. i have n9002 and cant do mute sound. i have menu, but i cant select off, and i try to replace sound in camera app, but then app stop working so... any solution.

Initial thoughts and few questions...

Hello all
So had the phone for about a week now and really like it but miss a few things that had on Lollipop with Asus Zenfone
1. No pop up SMS, come on Google it is 2016!
2. Cannot seem to add my home as trusted place so phone doesn't lock.
3. Cannot answer calls with a text, so not answer but send a pre written text instead.
Have I missed something or have these been taken out or were they Asus based. If so if anyone can recommend some apps for these I would be most grateful!
Thanks
Paul

You don't need anti-virus or security on Android. They're nothing but resource hogs.

If they are avaliable I'll do it when I get home, I'm Also going to keep it stock with no other apps to see if it's one of my apps that's messing it up

Can't seem to find any Odin files. I guess we will just have to data reset and guess what's causing it.

Sweet! Getting the firmware and Odin downloaded now. I cleared cache. Going to see how that works. If it doesn't do anything, I will flash the fresh firmware.

Is package disabler pro a phone app, or a desktop program?

I haven't noticed any difference yet, android system is still pretty high but my screen is higher so that's encouraging
I saw in another thread to disable all the "OK Google" options. There are two in the settings of the Google App, and then the one in the phone language and input settings for the Google Voice Typing.
Since I've done this, I've gain roughly 3-4 more hours by my estimate (haven't recorded data).

Just changed those settings. Did it take a bit for the android system usage to go down?

Did you previously have it set for only when in the Google app, or all the time? And do you still have Google Now enabled?

Go to the Google app (Google Now), settings, then voice.
After today's update, the android system drain seems to be way less. As of typing this it shows as 12% instead of mid 20's to mid 30's.
