Flash the rom and enjoy!
Special Thanks To: @scrosler for providing an excellent guide for beginners like us to build a stock rom. This would not have been possible without him at all! Also very special thanks to Gunthermic from (Team Average Joes) for teaching us how to troubleshoot and fix problems with my rom. He got us started on this and showed us @scrosler’s guide to build a stock rom. He has helped us so much through this entire process especially by getting the updater scripts working for the rom. Before thanking us thank those two first!
Known Issues:
None as of right now!
Donations:
Well since sh0cksquatch is only 16 years old and I (ik4evr) am 14 I do not have a paypal. BUT is you really want to send us a donation how about getting us a Google Play Gift Card Online. (Send us the code in a PM or something) Again, donations are not required at all!
Requests:
If you have any requests please tell us and we will gladly address them!
Notes:
For some reason after installing you have all of the bloatware re installed make sure you wiped everything in TWRP! Also, make sure you are not checking the option to restore data in the OOBE setup.
Wi-Fi may experience a very slight hang only once when you first setup. However, it may not apply to all people.

Micro SD Cards
Does this rom do anything toward fixing the problems with MicroSD cards in Android 4.4 I am looking for a way to have full control over my 64gb card again on this tablet. If this rom does not do that and you know of something that does please let me know.

If I wipe everything using Advanced Wipe in TWRP that includes internal storage, where the rom is stored before installing it.. If internal storage is wiped how do I flash the rom with TWRP? I can't flash it from my PC, I guess I could ADB sideload it but that is a lot of hassle. Does internal storage really need wiping?
Confused noob. Bought my first android device a few days ago.
Edit: I have no external storage yet.

On the internal storage are a lot of samsung files stored.
So without wiping the internal storage you will get a LOT of samsung bloatware back...
But it should work, flashing without wiping internal storage.
The ideal situation is to have your ROM on the external card/storage so you can wipe your device completely and start with a clean fresh ROM.

Aight, I went to a friends house and borrowed his external sdcard so I can flash your rom and try it out. Thanks for the reply! Doing this mainly to get rid of the bloatware.
Working perfectly, only thing I've noticed is an odd graphical glitch now and then. Mainly when turning it on (during samsung model display) or when I take it out of sleep. Should one be concerned? Seems to work fine other than that. Also flashed cybertronics v5 kernel

No. The 8.4 and 10.1 have completely different CPUs so they can't share. :crying:

Android 4.4.4 on Acer A500 Working Partially
I was running ICS 4.03 and installed the 4.4.4 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705989
Using Skrilax V9 bootloader and CWM 6.0.4.5.
Omnirom Kitkat loads up fine but cannot restore apps through Titanium Backup and as it reports no Root access.
Also Google Play cannot locate this device but I can log in and see my apps using the stock Browser that was installed.
Made several attempts with Google Android Manager to no avail.
I assume this custom ROM has root access correct? If true, don't understand why Titanium Backup is complaining.
Location is set for Wi-Fi and mobile network to determine location.
So for now cannot restore my apps locally via Titanium Backup until I get to the bottom of the issue.
Your guidance appreciated as well as the work to make this ROM available to such a broad audience.
DISREGARD, I am getting everything working in the light version.
Rom for Acer A500
Hello I am new to the forum and also the modding and not perlo language very well.
I tried to flash the recovery "update-recovery-thor2002ro-rev1.7.3" the "OmniROM-4.4.4-Tegraowners ROM v21" the work went well but sometimes I crash.
Can you tell me what is currently the OmniROM 4.4.4 better and more stable than those in the first page, and if I can flash with the current recovery, (update-recovery-thor2002ro-rev1.7.3), pointing to the steps to do because I lost in the discussion not knowing the language in fact I am using the translator.
thanks
Hello!

I used the instructions found at the beginning of the 4.4.4 Light version thread as the full version gave me issues. I didn't use the Thor recovery, Skrilax version 9 instead.

flickering screen with Facebook?????
I installed v6 of omni ROM on my Acer a500, and just updated to the newest version. Both ROMs are am some and smooth, but I have just one issue when I have Facebook open for a few minutes, I go to scroll down then the screen starts to flicker and I can't do anything. And to use it again I have to reboot otherwise I just get a black screen. It happens on both versions of the ROM, anyone else have this issue???. Thanks for any replies
Hello , I am trying to flash this rom on my Acer a500 and I get this error :

Lockups
yeah i have been having a few issues along the same lines, i think its more to do with disk 'bandwidth' usage than the cpu. With low data throughput apps running it will run for days without issue, start downloading at 500kB/s (or sometimes as little as 370kB/s) and do some other disk intensive task and pop its gone! this could be biased a bit by my experience of it as i quite often use the A500 to dl things or load it up with stuff before a journey etc.. have also had it get stuck in deep sleep modes but think thats the disk issue as well...
Could it be overfilling it disk buffers or something? not much experience with android hardware but this tablets a bit old now and new roms may be expecting the inbuilt storage to be performing a little faster than the a500's can deal with
Also have tried all the available i/o schedulers and none seem to have and noticeable difference in time between hangs, although without bothering to setup proper test conditions i cant really say much really

LNX partition not loading?
Hello and sorry if it's an easy question but it's my first time trying to install roms. I've followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705989 to install OmniRom 4.4.4 on my iconia A500. I installed Skrilax bootloader V9 and then CWM 6.0.4.5 on my device and up to now everything worked well. I then put OmniRom 4.4.4 build 8 and gapp pico on a micro sd card, wiped data using CWM then install the rom (from /storage/sdcard1) then installed the gapp (also from /storage/sdcard1), then wiped cache partition and rebooted. I've been stuck on the Skrylax "booting android image from LNX partition" for half an hour now... Where did I make a mistake?
Stuck on startup logo

Step by step guide
Hi guys. i'm a noob at this. i had earlier successfully rooted by Samsung Galaxy S Plus with CyanogenMod, but am at my wits end with rooting my A500. The process seems very complicated, with each page leading to another and resulting in multiple downloads. could someone please give a step by step guide with all downloads listed in sequence. screenshots would be great help. thanks in advance.
Using TWRP-2.6.3.0 to install Omni 4.4.4
Hi all,
Just want to know if it does matter to use TWRP-2.6.3.0 (instead of 2.6.3.1) to install Omni 4.4.4...???
Anyway, the installation went through w/out any issue. I'm using my revived Acer-A500 (was bricked for almost 2 yrs).
W/out this XDA-Dev's great resource, I would not be able to revive my bricked Acer-A500 & running Omni 4.4.4 (CM-11) now.
Many thanks to everyone on the board, especially, Skrilax, blackthund3r, civato & all the great XDA-Dev team...!!!
Cheers,
JKS

No oddities at all

Got my Mix yesterday - set it up last night.
I was apprehensive with everyone talking about different ROMs, unlock codes, rooting, throttling, etc etc.
Mine came with MIUI Global 8.0.7.0.0 with Google appstore already installed. The packaging was sealed.
Downloaded apps at about 3.5 megabytes per second (as shown by the notification bar connection speed widget).
SMS works fine.
Calling works fine.
I even get 4G on O2 (in the UK). I live in Leeds so it's one of those cities where O2 are using 1800 mhz for 4G as well as the usual 800 Mhz which Mix can't do.
All my banking apps work fine.
I've got Nova Prime on it. MIUI has some nice tweaks built in. There's no bloatware on it at all.
Also, compared to the Lumia 950XL I had for a year, it's about 2 mm wider and that's about it.
I've been using an S7 Edge for the last couple of months and set up wise, there's no difference. Everything just works out of the box. No flashing, tweaking, rooting etc.
Fingerprint reader is faster than S7. It can also wake the phone as well. Double tap to wake is there too.
If I didn't know better, I'd say this was just any other Android phone bought in the UK, instead of a China import where people have been talking about flashing EU ROM etc and having other issues.
Funniest thing about it is that once you get over the initial WOW factor of the screen, you just get used to it. It's only when you look at other phones you think, haha your phone looks like it's from the 1970s.
Only thing I haven't really tried is the camera. Pretty sure it won't be up to 950XL or S7 standards but I've installed Snap Camera so let's see if it's half decent.
Great phone so far.
Just depends if your happy with vendor rom and no updates as long as you own the phone, I removed vendor rom and have had 2 updates since with like yourself no issues.
Where did you get your Mix? Mine also had that ROM but I flashed the China ROM since it wasn't getting OTA updates. Your Mix might be fine for now but I hear the spyware/malware stuff works like a trojan horse, I'd recommend flashing now, your bootloader is probably already unlocked. Just install the China ROM and skip the EU ROM or rooting if you want.

I'm really confused now.
I thought my Global 8.0.7 ROM was the 'normal' China ROM.
Is it a VENDOR ROM? Is it obvious because it came with Gapps installed?
Also, how do you know this has malware on it? Kaspersky doesn't find anything on it.
Anyway, I better flash the official China ROM now - the EU one sounds more suitable (since I'm in the UK) but it's not official is it so ANYTHING might be in that.
Thanks.

Don't think they do put spyware on never found anything, no updates is the killer for me, they probably aren't allowed to mess with official ROM and keep the same numbers plus updates would probably mess up Google apps.
I went with stable China as it has English language and didn't want to TWRP at the moment. OTA updates aren't available on EU ROM ATM although first custom ROM is out with OTA based on EU ROM see forum. I installed Google apps from the mi store with no issues once all permissions were granted.

OK, so this ROM I have is some sort of weird ROM put on by Gearbest (where I got it from). Who developed it and has it been confirmed that there is malware on it?
Reading up on it, I can see how to install: China stable V8.0.12.0.MAHCNDI
Download ROM. Copy to root directory of phone.
Go into Settings/updates/reboot to recovery mode and install the Zip.
Is that right? Since it's not an update, do I have to wipe the phone in recovery?
I'm a bit loathed to do it cos:
a) This is a rather expensive phone from China which makes it a bit hairy. I've flashed ROMs on cheaper devices before but...
b) It's currently running dandy.. everything is fast and smooth and everything WORKS but this thing about spyware and malware I find worrying (even tho I can't seem to find any proof of this.) But yeah, lack of updates is a problem.
Does anyone have a link on an idiots guide on how to go from Vendor to China Stable Official?
There's a thread on this forum about this but it kinda says you need TWRP and Root etc.
If I put China Stable, do I need to root it to put on Gapps?
Will China ROM stop my banking apps to work?

The updater app has been disabled on this ROM, there is a guide (under guides) how to flash from vendor rom to China stable mine came from gearbest and was unlocked. No need TWRP or root. No rush your home won't set on fire with vendor rom just read a few times till you are sure of what you are doing. mi flash is used for flashing ROMs with xiaomi.

If you use Malwarebytes on the Vendor ROM, it flags the MIUI Notes app as "Agent.downloader.Trojan". Check it out! I didn't even sign in on the phone until I could get the EU ROM flashed. Not saying that Vendors deliberately inject their ROMS with malware. Just saying there can always be that one hacker dude who is compiling these ROMS for the vendors.
From what it looks like, most vendors are given a flashable signed zip file that can be flashed using official recovery, the file is named MIUI Global 8.0.7.0 or 8.0.8.0 (Mine came with 8.0.8.0).
So when most vendors receive stock, guess they unbox it, flash this zip file most probably via the official MIUI recovery, run the diagnostic test and if everything passes, they box the item and ship it out. Most vendors may have staff who are trained to copy the flashable zip file via MTP, boot stock recovery and flash! It doesn't take a genius to do that and its done it 5 minutes.
I am on the EU ROM. Even though unofficial, these MIUI EU ROMS have been there since the beginning of MIUI and no one ever had any reliability issues with the EU ROM. The ROM has no bloatware and comes with GAPPS pre-installed.

Not necessarily! Mine came with a vendor ROM and bootloader locked. This is why I assume that Vendors are given a Signed ROM file which can be flashed using the official MI Recovery. I don' t think every vendor has the skills to unlock bootloader and flash a vendor ROM after installing a custom recovery. Its a time consuming process.
If they already have a Signed customized ROM file that can be flashed using the official recovery, its as easy as copying the ZIP file to the phone and flashing it via the recovery. Takes hardly 5-10minutes.
Thank you very much for your replies - much appreciated.
As soon as I read your post, I did Malwarebytes and that found nothing - apart from saying I should switch off NFC so that's a little more comforting. As I said, Kaspersky hasn't found anything.
So, the China Stable is the ONLY official ROM there is - the vendor and EU ones are equally unofficial and neither have OTA updates.
OK more questions:
Some people say China Stable is the way to go cos of the updates.
1) Is the bloatware that bad? Can't I just ignore it? haha
2) Does it need rooting to put Gapps on it? Rooting is a no no for me cos certain apps won't run with it.
If I go the EU ROM, cos of the built in Gapps, can it be updated without wiping every time?
Thanks for all your help.

You should go with EU rom, or custom rom which is starting to appear now. The worst rom to go for imo is the China one, and I find it a bit strange some people want to go for that due to OTA update. OTA update is not such a big deal, you get more update with EU or custom rom and no, you don't need to wipe data, it is so simple and easy to do manual update.
If you are totally beginner then maybe you find the OTA update easier, but at the same time if you are totally beginner you will find it hard to get china rom to become stable and usable. By the way the new custom rom also has OTA update, if you really want that.
So in short, I see almost no reason to stay in China rom, unless you find selecting zip file and flashing rom "too hard". But it's really quite easy to learn.
Mine from gearbest has unlocked bootloader but slightly different number than yours 8.0.8, it's easy to check from fastboot plenty of threads on here.

1) Find out if it's unlocked and get that done if necessary.
2) Install the EU one knowing now that updates don't wipe the phone.
My fear is that somewhere in between having an unlocked bootloader (which I might have already) and having the EU ROM, I lose the ability to use my Barclays Banking apps. I definitely know that it won't work with root but I also know that unlocked bootloaders and custom ROMs aren't the same as being rooted.
However, the fear of this vendor ROM being a security hazard gives me the heebie jeebies so I'll follow the kind advice given and put on the EU ROM.
Thanks for now!

Good luck! Just to let you know i am on EU ROM with bootloader unlocked and rooted, i can still use Paypal and HSBC Banking apps. I don't use Barclays so can't comment on that.
OK I'm following the guide on XDA under Guides: Guide: Flash Global/China ROM.
I've checked that the bootloader is unlocked - which it is.
I've done point 7:
copy the latest xiaomi.eu rom zip to your device (which you can see in your computer's explorer as a device)
But when I use the command to get the phone into TWRP, the screen is unresponsive so I can't Swipe to Unlock.
I've waited for minutes as suggested on other sites but to no avail.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

If you don't root remember to flash dm-verify before you boot phone or will boot loop. TWRP unresponsive is known have a search
Again, thanks for helping me.
So, found the right TWRP for my phone. For others having the same non-responsive screen, don't install the TWRP that has RC1 or RC2 EU in the file name.
Thanks to the guy above for telling me to install dm-verity before rebooting. I would never have known that.
It installed - but there was a slight strangeness.
I expected the phone to be totally wiped and set to default but everything was as I had set it.
I checked the About Phone and it is now MIUI 8.2 by xiaomi.eu 6.12.29 Beta.
Everything works and is set up as before when I was on Vendor Rom.
Am I safer now?

It was fate TWRP failed, could of been in a whole heap trouble, although not to the point of brick
Good stuff that you managed to get the EU ROM on. You didn't actually need to install TWRP if you just wanted to flash the China ROM though, EDL mode with the stock image on full clear would've been fine but don't worry about it. Gearbest get their stock from other suppliers who are the ones that put the vendor ROM on apparently, but I can't confirm that.
A good order to do things if you've identified you have a vendor ROM would be:
Flash the China ROM with EDL mode with the flash tool set to Flash all (using other options will keep your apps and settings on the vendor ROM but I have no idea if that means it'll keep any trojans or spyware installed)
Boot up the phone and set it up
If you're happy with the China ROM then call it a day then optionally use the Google Installer v2 from the Xiaomi forums if you need GApps (you may have to tinker with the GApps permissions if some things aren't syncing right).
If not then you could flash twrp-3.0.2-0-rc2-eu-lithium.img, flash on the EU ROM and optionally SuperSU for root and also optionally Xposed, then enjoy a preconfigured GApps with no Chinese apps that you aren't too likely to use plus extra languages!
If you are rooted then I'd recommend adding the following line in your build.prop to enable the Camera2 API:
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
Personally, I'm still waiting on a CM port though, MIUI is too aggressive in killing my apps even though I have like 4.2 GB of RAM free even with all the relevant power settings, app settings, app locks, dev settings etc off. Android Wear functions better after disabling those power settings at least, I sat there scratching my head for a while wondering why the heck my watch wasn't showing any notifications.

Need help with.... [ROM][7.0][J530F] 7.0Simplified v1.0 NOT Booting

I posted it here cos the thread is locked..
When I try to flash the ROM to makes the phone boot-loop the Samsung Galaxy J5 name over and over(it don't come up with the Samsung logo),Just keeps rebooting Samsung Galaxy J5 .
Anyone know why,The first time i flashed the rom it was ok..?
Last time I used it Google Assistant didn't work too.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...r-development/rom-7-0simplified-v1-0-t3701805
No one know why,it uses Magisk v14.0 and Refined Kernel by @ananjaser1211 included, this is the only ROM that works with Adopted Storage, I have tried Refined 3.1 and 4.0 and it don't work, just corrupts the SD Card,do I need a stock ROM on my phone before flashing this cos that all that makes sense, can someone help me get this ROM to work, cos I don't understand why its doing what its doing...?
It should boot but it not even getting to the Samsung logo,Come on people, put your thinking caps on.. lol ..? I want to fix this ROM and add Google Assistant to it,cos it say its missing stuff from the Rom thats why G A not working.
Help a fellow old XDA fella out..

There could be hundreds of reasons why it wouldnt boot, incompatible kernel thats newer than the rom, your Bootloader being newer, some resident files in your storage, without a propper logcat, there is no way to tell. (please dont ask HOW to log, its all over the place on xda) other than that, only way we can help is by guessing.
If i have to guess. ill say full wipe the storage including internal before anything

Best root process?

I’m going to wait a little bit before doing my root. I had a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 recently die on me. I tried replacing the charging port and the battery but the thing was still dead. So I ordered an S5e. It should be arriving tomorrow. I’m just curious what everyone is doing with it now. I did a quick search and it looks like root is available now. But the instructions I found are outdated saying a recovery method (TWRP) wasn’t available but there was a news announcement saying it now was. So I’m kind of lost.
Like I said, I want to play around with it unmodded for a while before I root it. Just looking for a clear cut “best” way to go about doing it and seeing what the most recommended options are.
On my s10 I remember having TWRP as the recovery and Cyanogen was the OS.
Thanks!

I spent the whole weekend in my new s5e wifi edition, the truth as follows:
There are 4 ROMs for this tablet:
Original (shipped with Samsung ROM, Android 9) - Everything works fine, antutu v8 183k, but full of crapware from Samsung, suspicious apps and services, don't waste your time doing root on this ROM
LineageOS 16 (Android 9) - So far the best ROM at this moment, antutu v8 183k too, stable and HDMI issues too, but there is a workaround, (look my other HDMI problem thread)
LineageOS 17 (Android 10) - Trebuchet launcher crashing constantly, HDMI issues so I didn't test antutu because felt too unstable, so I gave up too
LuisROM - antutu v8 170k and HDMI issues too, so I gave up
I installed all the ROMs using TWRP, the root just works with magisk, the official LOS16 root su zip doesn't work. Once you have the TWRP installed you can just install the magisk .zip the same way you do with the ROMs, then the magisk manager will appear installed automatically where you can check the root status. Good luck!

Why not root the original rom and delete as much crapware as possible after root? That was my plan when my tab S5e will arrive.
You speak about TWRP but in this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s5e/how-to/galaxy-tab-s5e-sm-t720-root-t3947806 and that is the only decent one I could find, they explain that TWRP does not work on the Tab S5e because of changes Samsung made. Are yu saying that TWRP works?

Those posts are a reference, dont follow their procedures hoping that will work as they described... yes I AM using TWRP it works, get from their website "twrp-3.3.1-4-gts4lvwifi.img.tar" and "vbmeta.tar" then via ODIN, flash them, one each time, rebooting after the process. Once you have the TWRP installed, you can play around with any ROM and do the root as I explained before. I don't trust in a ROM full of crapware, its my point of view, cleaning based on tests you can never be sure if there is nothing left stealing your data or forcing updates or whatever samsung decides... so LOS is the way, clean, open-source, nothing to hide.

that is amazing news....I would love to try this out with my device and downloaded the files you suggested. I also found "PGP Signature vbmeta.tar.asc", do I need that too?
I have to admit that I have not much experiencing rooting...I only installed TWRP on my Samsung J5 phone years ago and after that I loaded another rom (I think lineage) on it. a stripped down version that offered more intern memory and that is still running smooth on my phone today.
So would it be possible to give me some more advice? Is it correct that I have to connect the S5e with Odin by booting it in download mode? And can you tell me where I have to load the files in Odin? Is it in the AP section?
And are there options I have to enable in Odin? (I heard something about a reboot option you have to enable or disable).
I hope you can help me with those questions. What model of tab are you using btw? Is it a 720 ?
Thanx in advance,
Jan

This part is up to you, In later tries I did all at once, but be careful and flash one image per time until you feel confident

SM-T720 the wifi only version

MIUI 12 slow as ...

Hello everyone,
I have my redmi note 7 with which I've kept using MIUI since I bought it. But now the android system weights for 9 go. I think it is insane for a phone, correct me if I'm wrong.
The phone is slow and when I try to erase everything et reinstall it. The system is faster but the system is still heavy.
Do you think rooting it can help solve the issue ? Or may those 9 go of system be caused by some viruses ?
Thanksnin advance,
soad405

Unlock the bootloader and flash a customer without root. You have a big choice, the most one are very fast and stable
Thank you for your answer.
0) what is the weight of a normal custom system once installed ?
1) Do you mean to flash a rom and still using the original kernel ?
The last time I flashed a system, it was on a Galaxy S2.... Did the things changed ? At that time we had an important risk to brick the phone under gingerbread version of Android (that version had some kind of bug) .
2) Are the risks still high today ?
I looked a bit through the list or roms on xda and the lineageOS seems to come out as the lightest rom.
3) Is there a room that is more stable than the others ?
4) Is there a rom that is kept updated more than the others ?
5) What about the android security updates once a custom rom is installed ?
Sorry that is a lot of questions but I need an update since my galaxy S2
Thanks in advance,

First, when you unlock your bootloader your phone make a factory reset. Then you have the choice which ROM. lingeos, havoc, pixel os are stable and have the last security patch. Then you have the choice with or without gapps (Google apps). In every thread is a how to and the recommend gapps. Orange fox is a very good recovery. And brick risk is small. Sometimes I had a softbrick with testing around kernel and modules, but it easy to fix. Make a backup with the customer recovery before. The weight I don't know in the moment. My daughter change the pattern . In the forum is a old how to unlock and under development is the recovery. You will find it. Have fun

Thank you very much for your answer.
I'll post the comparison of the weight of the system once I'll have installed it.
