[ROOT 4 Dummies] How to root and update for Locked Bootloader devices [For any OS!] - Xperia Tablet Z General

Root 4 Dummies
I've FINALLY bought a Tab Z (SGP321) and the day I got it, it took me almost 3 hours to slap root on it and install the prerooted KitKat package from @ryany67 (Based on my DIY Guide, so it was a no-brainer for me, really ).
It helps to know your way around XDA but also around Xperia devices in general I was contacted by some users quite fast after I thanked ryany67 to help them root their tablet Z... I decided to do a thread on the subject instead of sending individual replies which would be basically the same.
The reason why I do this thread is simple: it took me ages to find anything in the form of a 'Root4Dummies' on locked bootloader devices. So here it is:
Preparation
To start, download these files, appropriate for your device type:
[FTF] SGP321 10.1.1.A.1.307 Unbranded
[FIRMWARE][SGP311] 10.1.C.0.370 US Version
[FIRMWARE][FTF][SGP312]10.1.C.0.370 (UK version 32GB WIFI Unbranded)
Missing links: SGP351 and the JB 4.1.2 version for the DoCoMo version. If you have a link, please post it!
TabZ-lockeddualrecovery[any version online].installer.zip on [NUT]'s XDA Downloads
The latest FlashTool
The Dummie guide
Make sure you have created a backup of EVERYTHING on your device, which includes internal storage. The Backup & Restore app on your device does a decent job...
WARNING: I won't be responsible for your neglect to make a backup of your sister's wedding photo's you might have lost by following this guide!!
Put the FTF for your device in the flashtool 'firmwares' folder;
Unzip the TabZ-lockeddualrecovery[any version online].installer.zip and remember where you've put it
Power down your device;
Grab your USB cable and connect it to your PC/MAC ONLY;
Start thinking of what you might have forgotten to backup, because the next step will DESTROY ALL CONTENTS ON YOUR DEVICE;
Are you absolutely sure anything important has been moved off the device?
Did I mention the next step will wipe your device clean? The contents of your external SDCard (the one in the external slot, duh) will not be touched.
Are you sure you want to continue?
Okay... here we go:
Start FlashTool, click the lightning bolt button, choose flashmode and click the firmware you have put in the firmwares directory.
We will be flashing EVERYTHING and will wipe EVERYTHING on your device, this way you will be sure the result will be as clean and stable as possible. You can continue up until FlashTool instructs you to connect the device in flashmode.
HOLD the VOLUME DOWN button on your device and while doing that connect the USB cable to it. You should see the LED light up green and FlashTool should start flashing the FTF. Once FlashTool is done, disconnect the USB cable.
Power up your device, go through the initial setup until you can use it.
Go to settings -> about device -> tap the Build number about 7 times until you unlock the developer menu.
Go back one screen and open the developer options, enable it and search for 'USB Debugging'. Tic the box, confirm the choice.
Connect the USB cable
Open the XZDualRecovery 'lockedbootloader' folder and start the install.sh (linux and mac) or install.bat (windows)
Run option 3 (Installation on an unrooted ROM)
Your device will reboot itself when it's done and will go to PhilZ Touch Recovery for the first time to show you it worked OK.
When you tap reboot PhilZ will ask if you wish to root your device, you can confirm you want to if you like Otherwise flash the latest SuperSU yourself.
Congratulations, this part is DONE! You now have a rooted device

I already hear you cry out: But wait... it's ROM is WAAAAAAY old now!
You are correct of course
The next step will allow you to update to a more recent one while keeping root and not unlocking your bootloader in the process! :victory:
The choices....
It really boils down to personal preference but you can use all of the RECOVERY FLASHABLE ROM's you can find in the Xperia Tablet Z Android Development forum section. Just make sure you get the version for your device to avoid hardware malfunction.
If you want to make a backup of your TA partition, now is the best time to do it, as you have root now. Have the tool from @DevShaft do it for you: [TOOL] Backup TA v9.10 for Windows [20131228]
After creating a backup of your TA partition you can unlock the bootloader to be able to flash any of the ROM's on the Xperia Tablet Z Original Android Development forum section.
All Done!
Well... that's all folks! :victory:
Happy rooting and remember to have fun! :highfive:
Feel free to ask me questions in this thread about rooting and rooted apps, I'll try to answer them to the best of my knowledge. If you see someone asking something you know the answer to, don't hesitate to reply!!

Thanks to your guide and help, I was finally able to Root my Device.
You are the BEST [NUT]!

Don't need it at the moment, but could have done with it last week

Maybe so, but for that to happen we need a very bad bug to exploit...
This guide works with what we have. Using a similar way I am able to restore my Xperia Z, Z1 and Z2 from a soft-brick to working fine within 30 minutes.

Nice guide, @[NUT] ... Do you plan on building a custom kernel for stock ROMS (I'm asking this but I don't even know if you make kernels)? The Tablet Z is in a serious need of one. I'd try one myself, but I haven't had time for a while...

Thanks for this helpful guide!
Kudos!
I can get into flashboot mode but can't get into fastboot mode. I do it many times but it only charges my phone
I was never sure about using the fastboot toolbox until i read thru this. I would usually use the cmd window. I'll be flashing another of doom's test kernels later so i'll try it then. Thanks for going thru it

I tried flashing my Xperia R800x back to stock with flashtool. The drivers installed fine but where I connect the phone flashtool says "ERROR FLASHING: Aborted"
thanks mate...help me alot
Thanks, great tutorial! Much appreciated.

And now that we've covered flashing ROMs, we'll give our attention to the Fastboot Toolbox. Fastboot is a tool which can only be used normally through the command-line interface. This toolbox is basically a (quite raw) graphical shortcut to the relevant commands for our purposes.
We can activate it if we run Flashtool, click on the Flash icon, and select the Fastboot Mode.

I'll comment the buttons' functions and the equivalent fastboot command if it exists . That is for the benefit of the people who use Fastboot in non-Windows desktops.
Check current device status: this checks the status of your device, to see if it's on, off, in Flash mode or Fastboot mode.
Reboot into fastboot mode (via ADB) (adb reboot bootloader): with your device switched on, it will try to reboot directly into Fastboot mode. I'm not sure if it works...
Reboot into fastboot mode (via Fastboot) (fastboot reboot-bootloader): with your device on Fastboot mode, it will reboot in Fastboot mode again. It's mostly useful for testing purposes, but the common user won't need that too much.
Select kernel to HotBoot (fastboot boot X.img): this command will prompt you to select a certain kernel in order to boot it (NOT install it). This is helpful mostly again for testing purposes, but there are cases when it might come handy.
Select kernel to Flash (fastboot flash boot X.img): This is the command you'll be using most likely. You'll be prompted to choose a kernel, exactly like before, but in this case the kernel you choose will be INSTALLED. Unless you're a tester, make sure to flash kernels which are safe to install.
Here comes an example of flashing a kernel (DoomKernel v08):
Get Ver Info (fastboot getvar version): this is a pretty pointless command by itself as it will give you the Fastboot version installed, but the "fastboot getvar" command is pretty powerful, giving you information about a lot of the internals of the phone. Of course, those informations make sense to developers, while common users can largely ignore them.
Get Device info (fastboot devices): this command will output the Fastboot ID of your phone.
Reboot device into system (fastboot reboot): this command will reboot your phone.
With all these bases covered, you can happily operate with your Xperia Play. Have fun!

If you are referring to the last post on page 1 dated Sept. 23rd of this year, you could have said something nicer then that.
priteshc:
Easiest method is to got to Wotan Server and download their Xperia PLAY Drivers:
http://www.wotanserver.com/en/page/download
Download the X-Unlock Client and install first, it will install the fastboot and S1 drivers. Then install the Xperia PLAY Flash Driver file and install. After that you should be golden to flash away.
Good luck.
I could. And he could have not undug a thread 2 years old quoting a full post to post unintelligible crock. How does one even come here? I wrote this when we were in an ancient version of FlashTool...

True, not trying to argue or anything. And I am too a bit curious to see a thread revived after all this time. I would venture that said member did a search online and it pulled this thread up so he left a reply.
Anyways, lets consider this thread done as the information while helpful is dated. Still though despite its age thank you for posting this tutorial out 2+ years ago. I know it helped me 2+ years ago when i got my first PLAY (R800x), now R800at.
Thanks!!
Thank you with all my heart, for unraveling this blessing unto me and guiding me! :good:
I might just add that for unbricking/flashing, as these links are old, i founded out new ones:
flashtool: mediafire.com/u8i5kui5b8lg/5cz5nda84565ahb/flashtool-0.5.3.0-windows.exe

You sir, are a ****ing disgrace!
I jsut followed your guide from this link
Then you forward me to this page, to download Android..
The funny thing is, the first guide is for Linux, but you end up, on a download site, where you need to install a ****ing iLivid.. And that's for Windows only.

Why-and-how-to use Flashtool
Flashtool is your warranty, basically. Whereas PC Companion and SEUS are fairly limited about the kinds of reparations they can do ("no can do" with modified firmwares of any kind), Flashtool is your unbricking tool of choice. And if you have unlocked your bootloaders, it's the only 100% safe way to upgrade to new builds, as OTA and PC Companion updates can bring trouble.
In order to use Flashtool, we need FTF files with entire builds to flash. No problem: here they are, all of them. Once we have downloaded the one we want, we must put it in the "firmwares" folder of Flashtool so that it can be flashed.
Now we can fire up Flashtool, click on the left icon (the lightning bolt):
Choose Flash mode:
Select the firmware we wish (note that you have a couple of options for newer builds such as keeping your user data, but you better know what you're doing or you'll probably screw up the firmware):
Wait until the files are prepared...
And connect our device in Flash mode as specified before.
Once AND ONLY ONCE the process is finished, we can disconnect the USB cable and restart our phones.

[Guide] How to use Flashtool

Hi everybody welcome to my tutorial about Flashing with Flashtool. This thread is for those who want to reflash their device back to Sony Stock. See below for last details about this thread and the last build by Sony.
Note: I DO NOT OWN THIS DEVICE ANYMORE. PICTURES ARE REMOVED FROM MY DROPBOX AND THUS NOT VISEBLE. FOR NOW JUST RELY ON THE EXPLANATION PLEASE. ANY QUESTION CAN BE ASKED HERE. I DO NOT RESPOND TO TECHMAIL!
Created: 23-02-2014
Updated: 05-07-2014
Latest Android build released by Sony: 12.1.A.1.205
Let's begin shall we.. We shall!
First you need to download the correct ftf file for your device/operator or needs. This can be done here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964 In there you can share and download firmware files in .ftf format..
You alsol need a program called Flashtool. You can download this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
For Windows 8 and 8.1 users I also recommend you to read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095087 Microsoft has enhanced the security in Windows 8/8.1 and Windows won't install proper signed drivers.
When you are done with that you need to move your downloaded firmware file to the proper location for flashtool to be found:
C:\Flashtool\Firmwares
After that you are good to go, just remember the following:
Bootloader locked? If not you wont have BE2/OTA/PCC etc (for unlocking and relocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354721 )
I've made backups of my important files that are stored on my phone?
Battery at atleast 50%?
I have patience?
I got something to do meanwhile?
The last two things are very important
Let's get started:
1: Open Flashtool:
{

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Flashtool(.exe) for 32Bits systems and Flashtool64(.exe) for 64Bits systems
2: Press the Lightningbolt picture and select Flashmode
This will give another screen.
3: Select the downloaded ftf. (In this case 2.254)
Make sure that all the wipes are checked and the others are unchecked. This is to prevent any bootloops or other problems after downgrading.
4: Press Flash and the next two lines will be added to the flashtool log
The files are being prepared and checked. Have a bit of patience please.
5: Turn off your phone and turn it back on into Flashmode
After this the process will start.
After flashing you can disconnect your phone and boot it up.
Via Flashtool you can also reset your system after. For example:
You are running the latest ExistenZe ROM from our beloved Niaboc79 and you want to go back to stock for a reason WITHOUT losing data! Just flash the last Stock ROM and untick the following boxes:
Untick DATA and APPSLOG!! But keep CACHE to wipe the /cache (is the same as a wipe cache via CWM).

downgrade to root?
first, thanks! Very nice guide. I'm new to the experia world, my previous phone was a Desire S.
I have a question:
I have a problem with all stock roms with the mediaserver process. It is always running while I listen to music (which is a lot of time) and drains a lot of battery (up to 65%). Though I use poweramp player which is totally independent of the process (own library and decoder). On my Desire S on CM11 I don't have the issue this is why I want to move to a custom rom. I'm on 4.3 now (was hoping this would fix the issue) and want to root and full backup with keys for warranty purposes and then move to a custom rom.
Is it right that I have to downgrade first, since there is no root for 4.3 yet? If yes, what ROM? I have a C5303 and don't know what version I had previously. I bought it in Switzerland without SIMlock or any branding. Is there a way I can find out what my previous version was or can I basically just use any generic C5303 version?
Would you recommend 12.0.A.1.284 in order to be able to use DoomLords rootkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42701183#post42701183 ?
It's just that I don't know if I ever was on this version, also regarding warranty...
I know, many questions, but I just reached a point where I don't seem to get further without asking. Hope someone can clarify some of them.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: And also I was wondering: In the picture says flashmode is reached by pressing the back button while connection, but there are softkeys. Is it not done with volume down?

According to the log you attached everything went fine. So I dont understand the problem.
Perhaps an idea to redownload it? Sometimes it wont work properly because the ftf file is somewhat damaged..
I have to relock the bootloader before restore?
Edit
No, it's not needed!
reflashig stock rom
Thanks for this nice guide. Im having a lot of issues with the 4.3 rom.
I flashed via SUS, editing build.prop to let the phone detect the new version, because my phone is carrier locked, and they didnt released the update yet.
I have a lot of lag, and I must force reset lots of times, so I want to make a clean install, because last time I only updated.
So my question is, if I do a factory reset, my build.prop is going to change to the original file (Orange's rom) or ill keep with my modified file? (Stock center Europe)
What do you recommend to me? If I reflash a stock European ftf via flashtool, I'll have the stock's build.prop, and I'll receive those Ota updates without problem?
Thanks for your work!
No if you have a TA backup you need to reflash your ROM and Restore TA partition

I don't have the backup, because my phone has the bootloader locked, and the only thing I have done is root and editing build.prop to be able to upgrade to European 4.3. Everything is working for me, track id and BE. (btw I have a backup of my build.prop in the computer)
I only want to do a fresh install of 4.3, not my carriers rom, because is on 4.1.2
So can I reflash any Stock 4.3 rom? The rom has it's own build.prop?
Thanks for your help Mrjraider

Hi mrjraider,
Many thanks for the guide!
A quick question. I am now in 4.3, bootloader locked. If I downgrade to 4.1.2 (.254 for example) my bootloader is still locked, correct?
Thanks!
Yes
I want to go back to stock from AOSP ROM and I don't know what's the right .ftf file for 12.1.A.0.266 but I think I know the right file for 12.0.A.2.254 (German branded C5303) (I'm from Germany ). If I would flash the 12.0.A.2.254 .ftf file would the Update Center show me the 4.3 OTA update and everything would work like on stock before? And would I lose root even with Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and the option enabled to try keeping Superuser access in SuperSU?
You need to look in the thread I linked to. There you can find many FTF files.

I know I already looked there but I'm not sure which one is right, because I didn't see a generic one for all C5303 and I don't want do have a foreign branding

[Guide] How to ROOT + TWRP + Install Nougat on Canadian LG D852

*** Important: Your Warranty Is now Void. Always take a Nandroid backup. I am not responsible if you damage your phone or lose any data***
Hello everyone. I created this guide for the Canadian D852 since I didn’t find anything that was straight forward. Credit goes to all the developers who made it possible for us to keep using our beloved LG G3.
This is my first attempt to create and share a guide. I hope it will be useful to other users. If you find any error or have suggestions, please send me a message.
Download all the files before you begin. Do not forget to copy your ROM and GAPPS to your SDCARD before you install TWRP.
Go back to Lollipop using LGUP **Always use USB 2 port. It won't work with USB3**:
Download your kdz (d85220… not d85230). I downloaded mine from:
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-d852-firmwares/
Follow these instructions (works with D852 don’t worry):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64624353&postcount=3
Choose the kdz from your provider. For example, I have an unlocked Fido phone but I want to use it with Bell. So I used the Bell 20k KDZ.
When selecting a file to flash, type *.* and press Enter in the filename for your .kdz to show up. If you do not, it will only show .tot.

Root your phone using this method:
Enable ADB debugging.
Unplug usb cable.
Go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information and tap build number until you are presented with "You are now a developer".
Back to Settings screen.
In Developer Options, enable USB Debugging.
Connect usb cable.
Click OK when asked to allow USB debugging in android.
I use the root.bat method. If it doesn’t work go back to step 1 and try again.

Install TWRP using Autorec:
Copy the rom and GAPPS to your SDCARD before you install TWRP.
Download the file from here:
https://mega.nz/#F!rtI1naZT!LJIKUVpv8fYjrvhpykA4_A!2o433RBZ
Transfer the file to you internal or external SD card.
Head in to Settings -> General -> Security, then scroll down until you see Unknown sources. Tick the checkbox, then hit OK on the next prompt.
Install APK via the file manager.
Open App.
Grant root access.
Wait a few seconds while it does some backup.
Wait for prompt to say that it is ready to flash.
Click the button to Flash TWRP.
Wait for it to be done.
Phone will reboot into TWRP
Update TWRP to the latest version if you want.
Download and install Nougat rom. Tested with CrDroid v3.6 and open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano.

http://opengapps.org/
**I’m not sure if it’s necessary but I did it anyway** Flash Dene Hybrid Baseband via TWRP (don’t forget to wipe cache and dalvik after) if necessary (mobile data is unstable etc…).

That’s it! Enjoy Android Nougat!
N.B. That is the only way I was able to get a stable mobile data connection. Only flashing baseband did not work for me.
Thanks, barguin, for a very informative thread.
How is the battery life on this Nougat ROM? I will be switching from Fulmics MM, and my provider is Fido.
Battery is very good. I can do a full day easyly.
Regards!
@barguin: thanks for the quick response. Did you try Exposed for Nougat? I know that Exposed is frowned upon in the CrDroid thread, but there are a couple of modules I would like to try. Thanks.
I do not use exposed...sorry.
Thx

Personally I had some problems with lg flash tool.
There is no need to enter download mode! LGUP will do it for you.
I read the heading in this thread and it said something about not downloading the D85230 file .. and my phone is D8530g as shown in the screenshot .. so is the D85220 file gonna damage my phone .... Sorry for the newbie question !
Sent from my LG-D852 using XDA Free mobile app
The D85220 file will not damage your phone. Instead, that file will install an older Android version on your phone, namely Lollipop (this step is required to gain root). You are currently on Android Marshmallow, and you will end up with Android Nougat if you complete all steps correctly. The procedure is meant to work like this, one step back, two steps forward.
The "20" or "30" in the file names (on that website hosting KDZs) have the following meaning:
"20" = it's a Lollipop file
"30" = it's a Marshmallow file
"40" = it's a Nougat file (I can only wish, there is no such Nougat file).
But seriously, the procedure requires more than a modicum of familiarity with flashing and with using various pieces of software. There is potential for bricking your phone.
No offense, but, judging from your question, I would suggest that you should enlist the help of a friend who is a bit more knowledgeable on this topic.
Guys .. Can I use the ROM on D855?! If not, so how to flash the ROM without getting any issues?!!
Thanks.
Do not flash the rom on the D855 it's only for the canadian variant.
Did this on my d852 and it's stuck booting on Oreo, Nougat, and stock Lollipop. Happened after I installed TWRP, any fixes?
edit: i think it was the roms.. got 3 bad ones i guess lol. fulmics worked.
Just an FYI, I followed the LGUP instruction for my Bell D852 but it was soft bricked, doing the flash using "refurbish" instead of "upgrade" did it for me and I was able to finish rooting my device!
How to root symphony i60.... please reply me
my phone no sound
I do not hear sound from my phone after installing CRDroid. the programs are working. YouTube is opening but I can not hear the sound of the media being played.
I do not hear the sound of the media played when I plug in the phone.
please help me.
Thanks alot man, this was super handy!
Edit: Seems I've got that problem where shutting the phone off bugs it and it won't turn back on unless you remove the battery and put it back in. It also resets the time. Kind of annoying. Seems to happen to some D852s after installing TWRP.

Amazing work! EVERY ONE OF US NEEDS TO LEARN command line, but it's always excellent to see amazing devs make an all in one like this for the guys that refuse to learn the hard (right) way, and for vets that aren't quite smart enough to make a tool like this themselves, like me, but appreciate the **** out of this little gem making my first custom Oreo ROM from stock rooted a breeze! Perhaps a little bold, but im still calling it, OG PIXEL XL NOT DEAD just when I was losing faith! Bravo!
PS:. Donation incoming once my current "being a broke ass" sit-e-ation ends here in a few weeks.

Just peeped them briefly,. Mad props!
Damn dude, this is amazing. Will definitely give it a shot in the next few days!
Question about the install/uninstall apks feature: how does this work? Is it batch or one at a time?
EDIT: Also, to flash TWRP, do I need to be in bootloader mode and do I need to disable security on my phone before flashing? Will I lose root when flashing it? I'm using the latest Magisk.

You can't retain root after flashing a factory image. You can root the oreo factory image after you have flashed it
I take it this is for windows only?
Thanks
Thanks for this toolkit
My phone was loop in no command screen . And you save me

You can't directly flash a custom rom with this tool, you need a TWRP already flashed on your phone and you can use "Recovery Zip Flasher" ( I do not recommend it ), i think is better to put the rom on your phone and flash it from your phone.
This tool can't root directly your phone, but gives all you need to root it (Bootloader Unlock and the flash of a TWRP).
Pixel book? This tool is only available for Windows, maybe you can use it on pixelbook with a virtual machine, but i don't know how pixel book works
With the new update a i make a new recovery flasher option for devices with project treble. Test it and told me if it works

Oh and stupid question by old Sony dog with a few years of straying behind him:
- guess I won't get it OTA with an open bootloader?
- so what do we use to flash these days? Flashtool only works up to the Z Ultra from what, 2013?

You can make a ftf with XperiFirm on Flashtool. The latest version of Flashtool come with Xperifirm inside, so you can choose the version what you need and create the ftf to flash.
Would it be possible/safe to update the G3221 with a G3223 firmware file?

Thanks man. This actually works (yay!) but it won't flash. Something about a script missing no matter which version I use.
Well. I'll probably survive the few days

Before you flash, change the name of file in C:\Users\XXXX\.flashTool\devices\G32XX from 42.0.fsc to 48.1.fsc. When you start the flash, flashtool will ask if you want to use. Answer yes.
Or you can try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...gress-newflasher-xperia-command-line-t3619426
I never used it, so i can't garantee the sucess.
Sorry my bad english.
This is what I'm getting whenever I try to flash any FTF:

What does this mean? And what can be done about it?
- Bootloader is unlocked of course
- USB Debugging and Unknown Sources are on (is this relevant in Flashmode and/or Fastboot?)

This error refers to the flashtool .fsc file.
You can try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xa1-ultra/how-to/8-0-landed-xa1-ultra-t3764066/page3
In my case, i flashed G3112 in my G3116. At first, flashtool would not allow me because the .fsc file was not compatible with the rom I was using. So I changed the name from 40.0.fsc (first digits of the nougat rom) to 48.1.fsc (from the Oreo rom) in the \ .flashtool\Devices\G31XX folder. When I started the flash, flashtool asked me if I would use the 48.1.fsc file, so I clicked Yes and the flash was started.
I believe you should look for this folder for your device (G32XX) in the \ .flashtool \ Devices directory and make this change in the file.
Finally done. Whew there that was not beginner's work for sure - if you don't know exactly what you're doing, don't do it. Now only 2 things left... is this worth half a day's work (and I have done this about a million times)? And where to find TWRP because life without Magisk sucks donkey balls.
Short version:
- Install the latest Flashtool. Install the drivers in x:\flashtool\drivers. Won't work without them. I didn't find specific drivers for the XA1 so I just checked all of them. ATTENTION: For this to work you'll have to deactivate Windows' Driver Signing. Restart via the start menu and hold SHIFT while doing so. You'll get to the Device Repair options. Go to Advanced, Boot Options, Restart, press 7 for turning off Driver Signing. Then install all the drivers in this package. They're safe, don't worry. DS will be on again when you restart Windows.
- Make an FTF as described upthread (thanks!) or get one, like here. I'm in Austria and the MEA version works for me. Your mileage may vary though.
- Let Flashtool recognize your phone by connection it when booted normally.
- If you get the 'driver too old' alert, go into Windows Device manager. Boot phone into Flashmode. See what's coming up - like SECM Device. Delete it including its files. Go back to the start and reinstall the drivers.
- Now go into C:\Users\xxxxxxx\.flashTool\devices\G31XX and rename it from from 40.0.fsc to 48.1.fsc (thanks @boyrock - I would NOT have thought of that). ATTENTION: While the FTF is 'prepared' aka unpacked, this file might be renamed back to 40.0.fsc. If it does that, just name it back while the preparation is still running in Flashtool.
- Now go and flash normally with Flashtool. You'll get an alert if you want to use that .fsc file - it's a clear YES.
Now it should flash.
I tried a dirty flash at first because I'm lazy. Booted fine for the first time, got a bootloop on the second. So wipe USERDATA in FT. Don't be me, do that whenever you upgrade to a new major version
