S5 vs Note 3 - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 General

I have a guy that wants to trade me his note 3 for my s5. What do you guys think?

Note is 32gb s5 ?

If you'd rather have the S5, then I think you should do the trade.

I have the note 3. Wife has s5. Both are great phones. The size is the thing that I have not been able to leave the note series behind. Love the screen size and I use the pen and apps for work.

I think S5 is more valuable unless you need to digitizer pen. I find the pen pretty useful on Note3, but all this AT&T crap and no root / bootloader lockdown is making me look elsewhere. I will never buy AT&T branded phone again.

Bought the S5 a week ago and took it back two days ago for the Note 3 and I love the difference between the two. If you like the pen then the Note 3 is for you. If you don't like the pen, then you should get the S5. Two awesome devices

I'd call them near even. If we ever get kernel flashing ability I believe the note will have a longer life span due to an extra gig of ram.

Bought an s5 last week, really nice phone. I loved image quality of the screen on it. However decided to try a note 3 out and I like it more. The s5 imo looks more aesthetically pleasing and the screen looks better to me. However I didn't like the size of the phone. I only realized this after using the note 3. The s5 is a size for me where one handed sucked and two handing still was kind of strange. I wanted a smaller phone for one handed use. Then after having the note 3, I realized I can two hand type really well and comfortably on the note vs the s5 which was uncomfortable both one or two handed for me. It's weird. Anyway I think both are nice phones however the main thing that pushed me over was having root and roms. The bloatware pissed me off and even the note 3 had a ton of **** and popups before I could root it. Luckily I found someone selling still on 4.3.

Upgrade/getting Galaxy Note discussion

I just would like to know your idea of switching to Galaxy Note in the mid of Feb. Anyone is going to?
I've been using my ATT S2 and love it, don't even care for the Skyrocket or skyrocket HD. But Galaxy Note make me get confused . I'm not sure should i switch so i don't need to carry my tablet and phone with me.
Give me some ideas.
Thanks
I'm not. Just because of the processor.

I'm getting my wife a Note... She has a 3gs... This will be one hell of an upgrade for her
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Probably not upgrading to the Note because of the processor and no LTE in my area.. Even if I have LTE, I wouldn't really want since it will make me use my data faster to the throttled "unlimited data" speed.. lol
simple response.... Don't.
Just my 2 cents.
If it came with ICS I'd be trying to sell my Galaxy S II for it. I also upgraded in late October so paying a ton extra out of pocket would be pretty rough as well. I really liked the Note though when I got to play with it at CES. The screen is absolutely amazing I just wish I could have tried putting it in my pocket to see how it feels, figured it would have looked weird and didn't want to get yelled at over it.
Not for me due to processor and size!
I'm pretty open to the size but they bastardized it with a snapdragon chip
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
yeah i was pretty excited for the note, especially because of all the sweet development the international version has going for it but changing the processor killed it for me because none of the development is going to easily transfer.
i've spent the last two weeks trying to decide on a new phone because my galaxy s2 was free and i have an upgrade but i think i'm just gonna keep the galaxy. By far the best camera, super thin, pretty screen, and stupid fast.
Galaxy Note is cool but it can't replace iPad or Galaxy Tab 10.1 but it can replace 7inch tab but still screens realestate will be much smaller and very noticeable.
Galaxy Note only as phone a bit suck as you can't answer the phone with one hand nor properly work with one unless your hands are huge. Galaxy S2 is much smaller and you can use it with one hand and you can barely notice it in the pocket not like Note.
Holding for Galaxy S3 could be good idea but it might take forever for Samsung to release it as there is no official information at this point

So who might switch to the Note 3 after seeing it and it's features?

I personally will not because it's just wayyyy to ridiculously big in my opinion lol. The new features look pretty damn sick though not gonna lie!
Multitasking on the Note 3
Scrapbook on the Note
S-Finder on the Note 3
Gamepad on the Note 3
I highly recommend watching the new multitasking, I PRAYYY that we get that, looks pretty damn cool!!
Agreed, just far too big to consider for a phone I'd be willing to carry around. Nice features, and I'm sure it's a great device. But I'm not into Phablets.
If I was due for an upgrade would for sure consider it just because of hardware/functionality. Think I would get used to the size as long as the screen looks nice. However, with the S4 and Note 8 I would not be gaining much if anything.
Not me. While I would love to own one, I don't hate money enough to pay full price for a relatively marginal upgrade three months after getting a phone I am very happy with.
My upgrade date is in December. I'll probably sell the S4 and get a Note 3 then. I think it looks amazing, expecially the multitasking features, not to mention the Snapdragon 800 and 3 gigs of ram. I don't mind the size at all.

Videos made me want it more. I must have it. Give it to me now.
I'm extremely happy with my S4 but will definitely take a look at the Note 3. It's a bit big but the features that they have shown in their promo video seems like something I could use.
I'm on that beast the day it's released. The Note 3 is more powerful than most laptops. Love everything about it and finally Samsung increased the internal storage along with everything on the phone. After market accessories will be a plenty. Thank You Samsung.

I'm with ya. I'm trying to sell my phone and accessories in preparation for the release.
I personally wont be getting it but my wifey and mom will be picking them up. The size doesn't really matter for them since they carry their phones inside their purses.
As for me, I'm gonna wait for the redesigned S5.
Gonnna wait for samsung galaxy s5.. or nokia if they ever come out on the sprint carrier

Well I have 3 lines and I get all the upgrades so my s4 will be off to my gf and I be getting the note 3 . I might have to wait til christmas to get it because the xbox one will consume much of my play money.

I'll stay with my S4 it does everything I need it too already. Multitask already have a app for that, Gamepad I use ps3 controller with the sixaxis app, etc etc...
It looks like a a pretty sweet ride, but for what I need my phone for it's just way too big.
The s4 is borderline too big to carry in the environment I work in!

I'll probably be switching to Note 3 when Note 4 is released
I was already at two and a half years on the Epic 4G Touch, patiently awaiting an upgrade to the note 3. Well two weeks ago I got the blue light of death (hard bricked) on my old 4G Touch. So I had to go for another phone and thought I would be very happy with the s4. Well wouldn't you know it two days after I have my s4 reading on XDA of all the awesome customizations and tweak apps I can install on the phone I was very happy that is until the Note 3 specs came out. The rep that sold me the S4 extended my exchange time by 15 days until the 25th of September. He said to contact him or come in before that date and he would extend it again then when the note 3 comes out around October 1st or 2nd he will exchange me into that phone at no charge and swap all accessories I have already purchased for the s4. I really want to note 3 but it is a huge beast to carry around in a working environment and play environment also but I think I'm going to go for it.

It's a very nice device. Nice looks and feel. A Samsung rep brought one into to my work, Best buy a couple days ago. The back feels like leather and the front has kind of a wood grain or brushed look and the one he had, black was actually a dark black not like the S4.
This message brought to you in part by Sprint and the letters GS and the number 4

Note 3 is still the best phone aside from note 4

Reporting back after the switch. After a few days on g3 I totally regret switching. At the time it seemed like a good ideal, giving up the "older" not great condition note 3 for a newer better condition and spec g3, but now I totally miss milk music, s pen, and roms. Now I have to go for note 4 knowing no other switch is gonna be as good as the note 3 and switching back to the note 3 would be silly. I know its not development or this rom related but I just Hope this helps someone who's thinking about switching

I'm thinking about either t mobile note 3 on att straight talk sim card or note 4. Right now I'm just waiting on feedback from the T-Mobile note 3 on att thread to see if people are doing it without much issue
One thing I gotta give to the g3 is the camera, overall very good. They just don't have any development even after unlock
Love the note 3 but have seriously considered the g3 as a trade from a buddy of mine. Is it really that much better? G3 is a sexy looking piece of hardware

Trust me the note 3 with S5 Rom is way better than the G3. I returned it in 2 days. Just something about it. I hate the ui. And it has overheating issue. And I think the Note 3 takes better pics. Go look at the G3 pic thread. They look washed out. With not much detail. The screen is nice, but I prefer amoled screens. I guarantee the Note 4 QHD screen will stomp the **** out of the G3's!
Overall I wasnt a fan of it.

G3 stock rom really needs work. I noticed it'd mistake scrolling up and down a page as a touch sometimes, touch sometimes doesn't register, keyboard not as accurate either. These can all be fixed but they lack development, now it's bootloader unlocked, development will come but I just don't have the patience for it. I traded my note 3 back. G3 camera is really good tho in my option, laser focus is fast. G3 hardware is great on paper, it just lack the software to back it up I feel

Should. But not sure. Because I never tried with tmobile. But I've heard it does. U might want to Google the note 4 radio bands before u go that route. I know for sure u will get hspa+ but I'm not sure about LTE. For me hspa+ works fine. I have LTE now but my Verizon M8 only gets hspa+ which I'm ok with. I have Wi-Fi at home so that's where I REALLY use data.

So I just returned my Note 4

Overall, a very good phone, and I'm a fan of the Note series (I have a Note 8 tablet). Some touchwiz lag but not horrible, great build, battery life was ok. Nevertheless, it wasn't any more responsive than my G2 and the battery life seemed worse for me. after 8 days of use.
What really did it for me was the locked down nature of the phone (Verizon - sigh). Even of we eventually get root, the problems with moving to Android 5 just weren't worth the trouble for me when I have the Nexus 6 on the horizon. For me, the benefits of an open phone outweighed the cool features of the Note, and I just use my tablet for S-Pen functionality anyways.
I found myself wishing for the G2 - responsiveness and customized exactly the way I want it - Rom and bootloader.
For now my wife has the G2 (which she now loves) and I don't want to take it back from her, so I'm stuck with my old Galaxy Nexus for the next few weeks, but hey, I'm running it customized to exactly the way I like it because its completely open.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have until this coming Wednesday to return my Note 4. I've previously owned the Note 2 & 3, and overall, I'm happy with the 4, especially the camera. But the thought of no root, especially after the 5.0 update, has me concerned. Am hoping to see some real reviews on the N6 soon. If the camera performance can come close to the Note 4, I'll make the switch.
An additional thought. Since I took advantage of the $200 BB trade-in promotion, I only paid $99 for my Note 4 (plus tax). If I return the device, I'll lose the $200 credit. Might just keep the Note 4 and give it to a family member and buy the N6 full price.
I am with you I gave my wife my note 4 and took her note 3 until nexus comes out for some reasons I felt it's over whelming.
I want the note 4 also but it will kill me if it can't be rooted or is a pain in the ass to root. My second choice is the nexus 6. Are nexus devices usually easy for the devs to root and unlock bootloader even on verizon? Do you think the battery of the nexus 6 will last all day with its big screen?
Nexus is always easy to root.

What will be your next phone?

With our Note 4 being long in the tooth and less developer support available. What will be your next phone of choice? I am leaning towards the new Note 8, not from a developer's view, but pure performance, if the specs are to be believed.
Difficult to say. I like the note series a lot, but without a removable battery I'm not sold on it.

Which high phone still has a removable battery?
LG V20. Let's see what the V30 is all about.
I'm a little tired of not being able to run AOSP roms without having rando issues BT, WIFI "Samsung phones are not AOSP friendly since I've been on the S3." I think I'm waiting out for the pixel 2.
Im going to have my Note 4 for backup but im going to my non rootable Note 8
unless the Google Pixel 2 is great because root is life but removable batteries can be worked around
I have to stick with a Note. I'm hoping the Exynos Note 8 can be rooted. But, will an Exynos phone even work with Sprint's CDMA? I've always had Sprint phones in the past. When I had to turn in my Note 7 I was actually happy to go back to my Note 4, so I might just hold onto it for a while longer. I'm hoping that Samsung will come out with a Note Classic at some point with today's specs, fingers crossed!
This is my next phone!
Came from Note 3.

With current choices, I'm waiting on Axon 8 on a non CDMA carrier. If Note 5 had more internal memory I might have considered it... last year.
Not holding my breath for a rootable Note 8 in my price range. Samsung ruined it for me with locked bootloaders with no unlock support, bent-fragile-expensive screens and carriers dropping subsidized phone contracts. The Note was a phone I could hold for duration of contract; I might have stayed with Sprint if those hadn't happened but Sprint and Note 4 EOL will end my tenure with both brands and CDMA. No more is my goal unless much changes on all fronts.
Phone UPGRADE will likely mean breaking all former trends. Good run on phones but data was always slow and many considered the Samsung phones as toys; neither weren't serious with data connection. That's the way I often feel while traveling and outdoors on vacation.

I had picked up Note 4 after the Note 5 hit the market. With all of discounts being offered then, I actually was paid a $1 to upgrade from my Note II. So I got two, one for me and one for my wife. I'm sure such deals are a thing of the past.
I was thinking about getting the international version of the Note 8, which may be customized.
Note 8. My Note 4 is dying (emmc errors, freezes, reboots), so I have to replace it with something soon. I'm an S Pen addict, so that doesn't leave me with much choice.
Android has lost its luster for me. Yeah, I can choose launchers, etc., but that novelty has worn off. So if I could wean myself off the S Pen, I might even consider an iPhone.
200 dollars off the pixel XL is tempting.

I'm having a hard time searching for another phone while my note 4 is still kicking. It's a tie between essential phone and pixel 2. Only time will tell. I want to stay on Sprint and have a phone with a large xda following.
I had a note 4 then it crapped out about a year ago. Had the choice between a note 5 and the S7. Went with the S7 because the note 5 wasn't getting very good reviews then. This was about two weeks before the note 7 release (dodged a bullet?). The S7 is solid but too small. I found a note 4 online for $80, rooted it and am very happy with it. Been looking at the S8 but it's a bit pricey. Will look at the note 8 if it ever comes out but who knows? I like the note 4 so much I went back to it.

Sooo after seeing the Note 8 now
I find myself saying im just going to keep my note 4 until im happy with others phones and getting root lol
plus i removed insurance on my phone because its 13 dollars cheaper and if my phone breaks a new note 4 is like 150 or less on ebay or swappa.
Its like how do you give up free hotspot with many custom options and removable battery
for a high phone thats gonna add much more to your bill total anddd lose root and restricted hotspot for some and no removable battery
I have a new V20 in case my note 4 craps out. No chance I'm buying a phone that is not rootable. I don't care how nice and polished the Note 8 is. Once you start browsing the internet or youtube without an ad blocker its like going back to the dial-up days. Eff that. I don't need a polished turd such as the Note 8 with all "edge" and "bixby" nonsense. The Note 4 is still a very capable phone that has a lot more features than the 8.
