[q] upgraded my samsung galaxy y5360b firmware with kies - can no longer root it!! - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi, I'm no expert when it comes to smartphones and stuff, but I have a problem and I need some professional help. I have an old Samsung Galaxy Y S5360B. I got it from a friend, and it was rooted (had superuser installed). Recently the phone requested me a software update. Tried to do it with the phone and after rebooting a message appeared that it wasn't able to do the upgrade, that I had to try with Kies.
So I performed the firmaware upgrade via Kies, but when the phone rebooted, Superuser was gone and the phone is not rooted anymore.
I tried to root it again with several methods I found on the internet without success (framroot, update.zip, etc etc) but it just won't work.
If someone could help me or knows what to do do successfully root my phone again I will appreciate. Remember I am no expert in such matters so I need a "dummies" step by step procedure. Thanks a lot.
This is my phone data
SAMSUNG GALAXY Y GT5360B
Android Version 2.3.6
Baseban Version S5360BUTME1
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7
Build Number GINGERBREAD.UTME2
Latest firmware (upgraded with Kies) PDA:ME2/PHONE:ME1/CSC:MC1 (ZVV).

The 5360B is a varient from Brazil
The problem you have is that most root zips here do a build.prop check and dont include the B varient in the script so it will fail
You have two options
You can flash any standard 5360 firmware from my firmware thread (at top of 5360 dev section or link in signature)
Or you can try flashing my root zip in cwm with system mounted as it doesnt check the build.prop- http://d-h.st/kFt

How to Flash Android 4.0.4 Firmware for Galaxy Note GT N7000
This Tutorial is Divided into 4 Parts:
1) People who are running Gingerbread who are not affected by the eMMC bug
2) People who are running IceCreamSandwich who dont have the eMMC bug
3) People who are running IceCreamSandwich who have the eMMC bug
4) People who are Running Gingerbread/Icecreamsandwich and have the Android 4.0.4 released for their region.(Currently Only Germany, Malasia, Singapore and South Africa)
Please Find Your Respective Section in the tutorial below!
For Current Gingerbread Users
Since Gingerbread is safe from the eMMC superbrick bug, you can directly go ahead and do a complete factory reset/wipe and clear cashe either from settings>privacy>factory reset OR via stock recovery. After the factory reset/wipe, you need to download the "zip" file from here: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/162875101/447fb8f/N7000XXLRG_N7000DBTLRG_DBT.zip.html
After the download is complete, open the zip file using WINRAR and you will see two files:
• A “.md5” file
• A “.dll” file
Unextract both to folder/desktop. Now you need to download ODIN and samsung drivers if you do not have them. For ODIN just download from here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/09glpz0zg7c2dpo/Odin3 v1.83.exe
For drivers just download & install the samsung kies from here:
http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as
After installing Kies you will have the drivers installed.(you may need restart for drivers to work) Then you will need to put your phone in download mode(Volume Down + Home + Power Button) and then press volume up to continue to enter the download mode. Then connect your Galaxy Note to PC using MicroUSB cable and open ODIN. In ODIN make sure that the box has turned yellow for this to work. If it does not then there is problem with the drives. You then need to select the PDA button and navigate to the ".md5" file that you unextracted and select it. Make sure only "Auto Reboot" & "F. Reset Time" are checked and then you can hit the start button. It should then start flashing. After flashing is done a box should turn green and the phone will automatically reboot. Flashing usually takes upto 10-15 mins.
For Current IceCreamSandwich(4.0.3) Users who DON’T have eMMC brickbug
First please check whether your device has the eMMC brick bug via chainfires app called “GotBrick?” If your device does not have the brick bug then simply factory reset it via settings and then you can download the Android download the "zip" file from here: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/162875101/447fb8f/N7000XXLRG_N7000DBTLRG_DBT.zip.html

First please check whether your device has the eMMC brick bug via chainfires app called “GotBrick?” If your device has the brick bug then you cannot do a factory reset and directly install the new 4.0.4 firmware. You will first need to downgrade to a Gingerbread Firmware, then do a complete factory reset/wipe and clear cashe and then reflash the Android 4.0.4 firmware. So the first thing you need to do is download the Gingerbread Firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-N7000&r=1#regiona
(You will need to signup to download)

People who are Running Gingerbread/Icecreamsandwich and have the Android 4.0.4 released for their region
For all users who have the Android 4.0.4 Firmware update released for their region (14/07/12 - Germany, Singapore and Malasia) can also use OTA , via Samsung Kies to update their phones. Just go into the settings>About Phone>Software Update to check for the update OR another method is to connect your Galaxy Note to the PC. Open Samsung Kies and check for the firmware update. If the update is available it should automatically ask you if you want to update. Confirm the update and it will do the flash automaticly and keep all your data as well.

Very good initiative from you as I'm sure many NEW users will find it useful! Maybe you could also add the definition of the EMMC bug on the 1st line to explain it to them.

hey man from the post there i see that you have the cm9 kernel installed over the stock Gingerbread ROM(Correct me if im wrong)!
So as far as i know you will fall under the first category because the eMMC_ERASE function has been disabled in the cm9 knightlies kernel. But just download chainfires app called "gotbrick?" to check if you have the bug. If you dont have the bug thenyou can do a wipe from any ROM/kernel and directly flash the new firmware.
And yes you will get SNote and the Touchwiz with the new firmware preinstalled.

Thnx for reply. I am not too experienced, but i think yes, i have CM9 installed over stock GB. So i am runing ICS, but first category goes for GB, does it realy is my case? I have checked gotbrick app and it said that i have that nasty bug. But i have still done some factory resets and wipes and so far so good, as i understand that because of safe kernel. So i am still in danger but in kernel the use of mmc has been disabled, if i follow the guide isnt the 3d category safer? Because its careful about brickbug?
sorry I'm wrong post

What do you mean by 4.0.4 international? Also I think this is slightly OT, better ask in the main 4.0.4 open Germany thread.

As I understand, you have to be rooted to flash a ROM from GB to any other ROM using Odin, but your tutorial doesn't mention the need to be rooted. Am I mistaken?

I have a german csc, updated with KIES, no wipe no resets and all is ok (48H) no lags,no crashes just nice 4.0.4 (yep still unrooted and stock). It even restores all you apps and settings (except bluetooth devices)....

thats kinda wierd man! performance seems to have improved for me. cant really say if something went wrong!!! but if you want to go back to your 4.0.3 firmware then you can easily flash the 4.0.3 firmware via ODIN. To get the 4.0.3 fimrmware goto: www.samfirmware.com>firmwares>smartphones>android>GT N7000>(ur region)> and download the firmware for your region/country.
After download just unextract the .md5 file and flash via ODIN.
Does it have the same interface as Samsung Galaxy SIII ICS 4.0.4? I have done the upgrade but not much features change except the pop-up play..thats all .What a letdown!

[Guide] Downgrading from 4.3 to 4.1.2 on N7100 (KNOX 0x1 Users Only!)

N7100 4.3 to 4.1.2 Downgrading Guide (Comprehensive)
Read First!:
Hi there! Welcome to my first guide to downgrading your Jelly Bean OS back to the Stock 4.1.2. By reading this guide I will assume that you have ALREADY TRIPPED YOUR KNOX FLAG (0x1), IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT KNOX IS, DON'T USE THIS GUIDE and you have decided to downgrade to stick with 4.1.2 for a better user experience as I did. A couple of notes before we begin, as I feel I need to inform you of the risks you are about to take, however, I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DECISIONS / BROKEN DEVICES, ETC by following this guide. This doesn't mean that the guide is faulty by any means (as I did much testing) but that you are willing to take the risks and be accountable for them. Just to be crystal clear.
By upgrading to 4.3 you have already locked your bootloader, which means the device won't let you downgrade to any lower versions or custom ROMS by directly flashing them though ODIN. Till now there has been no fix for unlocking it across all devices and this guide is not able to fix it. However, it can remove the KNOX application, which prevents all root access to the device. This will allow better methods for rooting if you ever require it.
I must also inform you that your IMEI number will temporarily fall when downgrading to 4.1.2. This is common. IMEI registers your device to the mobile network, similar to your PC's MAC Address to connect you to the internet so there can be communication. IMEI and other important information is stored your efs partition which is then read by your modem. 4.3 uses a NEW efs V2 which can't be read by older modems. When you downgrade to 4.1.2, you also downgrade the modem and IMEI can't be read. TO FIX you need to simply revert to your new modem. So it is benificial to create an efs/modem backup in this guide (Just in case).
Once you downgrade to 4.1.2, the bootloader will disable system updates from Samsung. You won't need them anyway, because you will be staying with 4.1.2, if not, then why are you reading this??? But you can directly flash back to official 4.3 via PC Odin as the bootloader allows this. You can get your updates back when on 4.3.

4.) On your phone, enter Developer Mode by going to Settings > More > About Device and tapping "Build Number" a few times, until the message "You are now a developer" appears. Back in settings, go to Deveoper Options and enable "USB Debuging".
5.) Connect your phone to PC via USB cable and enter DOWNLOAD mode.
6.) PC Odin should detect your device, by showing a blue bar (COM PORT #) and "Added!" message should pop up. Extract philz-recovery V5.md5 and flash it by checking the checkbox next to AP, then click AP to add the file, and click Start. (Make sure ONLY Auto-reboot and F. Reset time is selected in Odin). --> This is the step that trips KNOX counter.
7.) Wait for green "PASS" to show in Odin and your phone to finish reboot. Now on your PC, go to your GT-N7100 directory and move (DO NOT EXTRACT) [1] Dr. Ketan's Multitool V6.zip AND [2] superuser.apk AND [3] modem.bin (your N7100 4.3 modem) to the "Download" folder on your phone.
8.) Extract your .md5 4.1.2 firmware, and move it to this folder on your phone as well. (4 files in Download folder now)
9.) On your phone, enter RECOVERY mode (you will see a purple skinned custom recovery), touch "Install zip" and "Choose zip from sdcard"
10.) Find your Download folder, and touch Dr. Ketan's Multitool V6.zip. Touch "Yes" to confirm install.
11.) Here, agree to the Terms of Use and touch Next a couple screens. Touch Proceed with Multitool and do the following:
- Root Device/Inject Busybox (Next)
- DeKNOX Device (Next)
- Skip all the rest (Next a couple screens)
- Do NOT change the rest (Next a couple screens)
- When prompted to run, touch RUN. Next and reboot.
12.) Now that your device is KNOX free, go to My Files > All Files, and find the Download folder. Touch superuser.apk. You will get a warning message, just hit "Settings" and find "Unknown Sources" and make sure it is checked. Touch "All" and "Install".
13.) In Supersu, touch "Continue" for Su Binary Update. Select "Normal". A message may indicate it failed, but it still funtions after a little wait.
14.) Install Dr. Ketan's EFS Tool Samsung N7100/900, Just for safety, backup your efs. Grant permissions from Supersu when asked.
15.) On your PC, go to your N-7100 root folder, you will see a new folder called "MyEFS#####" with a file inside (efs.img), copy this folder to a safe place on your computer and keep it.
16.) Install Mobile Odin Pro from Playstore. Run app, grant permissions, download updates.
17.) In Mobile Odin, touch "Open file..." > "Internal SD-card" and navigate to your Download folder. Select your 4.1.2 firmware. Hit OK.
18.) Make sure "Wipe data and cache" AND "Wipe Dalvik cache" is checked (If not, you will see a lovely bootloop, a big NO-NO). Finaly, hit "Flash Firmware" > "Continue"> "Check" for safety sakes.
19.) Wait a little while (About 2 reboots), you are now reverting to 4.1.2. You will be greeted with a welcome screen (Welcome back! ) Sign-in to your device.
20.) Back on 4.1.2, all is well... Except IMEI!!! To fix, go back into Mobile Odin app. Select "Open File..." > "Internal SD-card" > "0" > "Download" > Select "modem.bin".
21.) Touch "Flash Firmware" > "Continue". And wait for reboot. (DO NOT wipe cache this time) ~ DONE! ~ (Optionally, you can now use Triangle Away to clear flash counter, and remove Supersu and Mobile Odin for a cleaner look)

I haven't tested 4.4.2 steps are similar, but I highly don't recommend.
Things to keep in mind:
- Instead of 4.3 firmware, download a backup of your current stock 4.4.2 that to can recover to.
- 4.3 modems reported not to work on 4.4.2 and I read the new bootloader is preventing EFS writing.
- Knox in 4.4.2 has been upgraded to V2.0 and Dr. Ketan's tool may not be able to temporarily stop it
Sorry if this is a stupid quesiton. Does any of this apply to the Sprint Note 2, or would that be a different process for going from 4.4.2 with 0x1 Knox back to 4.1.2?
No, it *should* work fine with Mobile Odin.

Not at all, I'm glad you asked. I specifically designed this guide for N7100 International version only. But, since you've mentioned it I would imagine steps would be similar with Mobile Odin (standard) with different conditions. I suggest extreme caution if you even think to try.
Again, here are your conditions:
- Find your stock 4.4.2 you can flash to recover to if things go wrong. (Sprint's version of 4.1.2 to downgrade to as well).
- Dr. Ketan's tool is designed to work on 4.3, and may not work on 4.4.x therefore you need to find a manual way to root, and stop Knox security components before Mobile Odin can be used.
- MOST importantly, your Sprint modem contains LTE capabilities which is different from International HSPA only modems. Therefore, you must find a copy or backup your current 4.4.2 modem for flashing later. Failure to do this will result in unreadable IMEI and loss of calling/texting functions.
So only do it if you like risks or have the resources. I hope you find this information useful.

4.4.2 - 4.1 N7100 Downgrade
Thanks, the guide worked ok for me to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.1.2, though i rooted with an Autoroot.zip file for 4.4.2 which also deknoxed and used philzstouch cwm recovery to install it.
Dr Ketans multitool advance v6 was a bit buggy with 4.4.2 and froze if i went too fast, though it did backup my efs eventually.
My problem is that even after I restore my efs and my imei is back, i still get, 'service state : out of service' and cannot make phone calls.
Though this is likely because I accidentally bought a used note 2 off ebay which has a cloned IMEI (the one in the phone is different from the one on the back) as the phones real IMEI is reported as lost or stolen and so blocked by the network. (I did try to return the phone to its rightful owner, but they don't let you do that, they just block the IMEI and make it useless! , prob because they sell more phones that way)
I was hoping 4.1.2 would work with this dodgy 'cloned' IMEI but it does not seem to!
Please tell me after downgrade in download mode the knox thingy still shows?
Edit. Answer myself. Since the bootloader is not downgraded the knox thingy will be there.

Downgrade 4.4.2 - mobile odin not working
i followed the steps on 4.4.2 (official ROM) to downgrade, however, mobile odin did not worked properly.
After initiating the Flash Rom on mobile Odin, it shows all the pop-ups until rebooting device.....however...the device does not reboot....
Followed below process:
1- Flash 4.4.2 Stock ROM via Odin
2- Install CWM Recovery
3- Using Dr Ketan tool DeKnox the phone
4- Root the device using autoroot via Odin
5- Install SuperSU (checked for working)
6- Install Mobile Odin
7- Followed the steps on Mobile Odin to flash 4.1.2 & 4.3 (both not working)
any help here is appreciated!!!
successfully downgraded to 4.1.2 from 4.4.2
manual reboot to recovery mode did the trick!!!
wipe data is a must...i did go into a boot loop...then reflashed....post which I was also able to downgrade to 4.3 and then followed the steps to 4.1!!!
boot loader remains the same!!! now showing Knox & flash count!!
however, my problem of no sound in-call is not resolved!!! this issue was developed after i upgraded to 4.4.3

Forgive me for not supporting you and this thread for a while, I was mostly active on Knox threads researching. I am glad it worked up until the point of returning to official 4.1.2 software, even using 4.4.x Kitkat.
You cannot downgrade a locked bootloader. If you updated to the latest 4.4.3 you will be stuck on it. My phone came with the 4.3 bootloader and still is. You can use Triangle Away to reset flash count all the way back to 1, but it will not return to 0 due to Knox security. (Once Knox is 0x1 it can't be reset as of now)
Can you explain your no-sound in-call problem? Is this on 4.1.2 firmware or 4.4.3? Is relating to only your dialer or other apps as well?

Actually this guide doesn't touch your IMEI data, I just suggest people to back it up for safety reasons. If you came from 4.4.2, you need to restore your 4.4.2 .bin modem file (your country) for your IMEI to work. (I do not know if this is the case for cloned IMEI as I do not know the status of your phone.)
PS. (Yes philz-touch v6 is very buggy, and it will hang if you do not have fast fingers. Use V5)

Also cannot get any 5.1.1 to work on my Note4 Live Demo Unit, same boot loop issue, but no problem with 5.0.1. Can reach "optimising applications" on the first boot but it then crashes and phone reboots.
Never touched pit partitioning in odin, so may not be this.
Could it be that 5.1.1 requires checking of something upon first boot that Live Demo Units do not have, but 5.0.1 does not do?
Have so far only managed to install custom 5.1.1 Note4 roms using Dual Boot Patcher. First installing Echoe rom v9, which is 5.0.1, on base OF2, using Dual Boot Patcher, this becomes the primary rom. Then can install many 5.1.1 custom roms via Dual Boot Patcher, such as SOKP, BlissPOP, CMremix, CRdroid, SlimRemix, all boot up and work.

How to Root the SM-P600 P601 & P605 running 5.1.1 Stock Lollipop

Ok so I will be giving you guys a tutorial on how to root the Samsung galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition running the latest version of android 5.1.1 specifically the SM-P600, SM-P601, & P605. I will be using the CF- AutoRoot By Chainfire.
Here are images if you need help
Preparations
Download the CF- AutoRoot File for your device
P600
P601
P605
When the download is complete, you have to extract the zip file
Make sure you have Android Debugging Enabled on your device
Boot into Odin/Bootloader mode by holding Vol Down+Power+Home at the same time, then press Vol up when the triangle appears
Procedure
Open the folder you extracted the autoroot files in, right click on the Odin 3 Application file and run as administrator
Now select the AP button in Odin, and select the autoroot file
Now connect your device to your computer, You should see Added in the log, and the box on top should turn blue
Important Make sure that under options only Auto Reboot, & F. Reset Time is ticked, un check everything else
Now press Start, your device should reboot, and you should see a red android pirate and some commands running
Don't worry if your device reboots a couple of times its normal
You can un-plug you device when it boots, and Odin should say pass, after that exit Odin, and your done!
Go in your apps, and you should see SuperSU, update the binaries if needed, to make sure root was successful, download root checker from the play store, and verify root
Your all done! You have successfully rooted your device!
Troubleshooting
If your device is stuck in a boot loop, hold vol up+Power and scroll down to Reset Data, and confirm, your device will be completely wiped, you can try to root again and see if it is successful
If a factory reset did not work you have to re-flash your firmware via Odin here is a tutorial on how to do it
If you get a message 'Recovery is not Seandroid Enforcing' while booting repeat the procedure, but instead of the CF AutoRoot file select the stock recovery file and flash it. Once your device reboots it should be fine.
If you have any problems please comment below, and i will try to help you through them, and Thanks! Happy Rooting!

Did that with 2.66 Beta - worked (for) now. Will report back if any further problems occur. Had to perform a data, Dalvik, cache, system wipe, reinstall stock, then CF root. Then it worked out, finally. Just deleting system / caches wasn't enough. Weird.
I still can not find where to download the stock firmware. All those sites either need premium or broken link. Anyone can help? stock firmware for P601. Thanks a lot in advance

If you're downloading from Sammobile, my advice is to use a Download Manager. I'm currently using Download Accelerator Plus, which not only allows to Pause/Resume downloads from SamMobile (it will ask you for your login credentials to SamMobile when you start de download), but it will also try to connect to multiple servers to download the files faster. I'm currently downloading the firmware for my Galaxy Note 2014 LTE from their servers at 1,5MB/s after having needed to reboot my PC
Hope it helps
P.S. I'm assuming you're using Windows, but if you're using another OS google for download managers for your OS and I'm certain you'll find something that'll help you

First time didn't let the pass message appear on Odin before disconnecting the cable (my bad - been doing this for so long that sometimes overlook some steps xD) and the SuperSU app wasn't installed.
After factory resetting the device and redoing the process a second time (paying attention to what was doing xD) it worked like a charm!
Thanks man ;D
I rooted my SM-P605 with latest CF-AutoRoot 5.1.1 but I can see something wrong.
SuperSu app is correctly installed and working (I'm using Seeder and tried Xposed) but:
- cannot give root permission to Clean Master (every time I try it fails)
- each time I reboot TWRP it asks me to install SuperSu.

It works (I've got a P605) but while I had been rooting it stuck on the Samsung logo so I had to download and install the stock firmware again and repeat the process of granting administrator rights.
Open up su and tells me it cannot find su binary, uninstalled it from play store and open again and same issie.
I have a refurbished LTE version from Tmobile. Will this work with my model P607t? I have read that the P605 model is almost the same as the P607T. Also heard root breaks S Pen functionality.

Worked flawlessly, except that on my first try there is no SuperSU app so I repeated the process again. Worked.
Thanks!
Am I reading correctly that this does not work on Verizon's version? SM-P605v is the official model.
worked fine on p601 but stuck with twrp
i followed all the steps and rooted fine on p601...but when i tried to install twrp recovery it is installing and saying pass on odin but when tried to open twrp it is getting bootloop with "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" i tried autoroot again ...so please tell me how to install twrp
