[Q] Camera Lens Procector? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Just grabbed a Gold S5. Sexy as hell. Haters be dammed.
I heard about pretty wide spread issues of camera lens cracking due to the protruding lens. Anyone know of a protector I could use just for the lens?
I'm getting a TA tempered glass screen protector so something similar would be great, but that doesn't affect picture quality.
Thanks!

Check out the Nillkin tempered glass screen protector, it has 2pcs lens protector included.

SGS II Camera Protection?

I had my first hairline scratch for SGS2 within 4 days of usage. Probably the Oleophobic coating it had which is more prone than Gorilla Glass.
I hurried to get a Screen protector but what about the camera?
Nobody in the forum seemed to be concerned about giving the 8MP's a decent protection.
Anyone here use a old SP on the lens or leave it as it is?
For a scratch-phobia user like me, probably not leaving chances to luck.

I stick a smiley sticker on the back under the camera so it doesn't touch the surface when I leave it on the table.
Or you may trying cutting a piece from a screnprotector...

Once I fixed a piece of a screen protector (which corresponded to area of the home button) on the camera's glass but it made my pictures terrible, specially because I covered the flash also. then I removed it. However it was one of the cheapest screen protector. A crystal clear one might be a different story.

I use two magnets and a washer for protecting it.... here is a video showing it with my old Galaxy S battery cover....

Isn't compass showing towards your camera all the time?
I bought the SGP Ultra Capsule case for SGS2. It makes the phone about 1-2 mm thicker so when you put the phone on a flat surface the camera stays intact. Same goes for the screen. I've never used or even liked phone cases before but this case is awesome, my friends didn't even notice my phone had a case It also comes with a Crystal Clear screen protector so you can cut it to make a piece for your camera.
Oh and about the screen. The SGS2 screen is made of Gorilla Glass and has oleophobic coating. Oleophobic coating is not a glass type but coating, something that is added on top of the glass. And that coating doesn't scratch so you can't say that SGS2 is more prone to scratches due to the coating.

Yes, the compass is the only disadvantage... But I dont use it, I prefer protecting the camera...

Yeap you're right. It should be the scratch-resistant (not proof) gorilla glass. I must make it clear that the scratch is a negligible hairline that only shows when screen's off.
I probably get a cheap crystal protector for the camera. Can't risk getting the goodness scratched =[

How is the screen protector like? I purchased a Matte Screen Protector and hell it makes my Super Amoled screen like rainbow glitter all over my screen. Especially the whites.
Worst money spent on a SP.
enough with cheap screen protector.
Try brando ultraclear and you won't regret it (brando don't pay me).
jokes aside, i had a pleomax screen protector with anti fingerprint treatment that work but the colors were bad. With the brando now i have the fingerprint but the colors are perfect and it's like there is not protector on the screen.

thanks man!
right now there're a few major downsides to SP for SGS2
Anti Fingerprint SP
+No Smudges
- Rainbow speckled display can drive some people mad when the purpose of SGS2 is it's beautiful AMOLED display. I mean, whats the point? Lol.
Crystal Clear SP
+Almost Naked SP
- Smudges.
Note: I am not too sure the extent of smudges on SP affecting user experiences.
But in short, with respect to thread's subject, I find many people have really unique ways to Sealing their SGS2 from wear and tear and by far the Magnet cover is the most creative and unique.
Solutions to SP for Camera
1) Get Martin Field's SP. They come with Camera SP. But they're only ones to do so.
2) Get a cheap crystal SP
3) Use a expensive SP just for the Camera SP.
Afterthoughts
I can't seem to abandon the thought of leaving the camera's glass Naked. I feel so uneasy when I lay it on the table, not knowing when some loose staplers or sand strikes/scratches.
Meanwhile I leave it to my case' thickness to safeguard my camera's glass for the time being...

How prone is lens from scratching?

I see there is square metal rin around the camera lens. Is it proturding few mm to protect lens from getting scratched when placed on the hard surface like table?
Unfortunately the similar metal rim in S2 and lens is flush and I've developed lots of minute scratches on the lens (visible when I see against light reflection). This is one of the biggest design flaw I saw in S2.
It's perfectly flush on my note... so I'll probably expect some scratches too...
This is really unfortunate. The S2 front bezel rim is actually hair proturding to protect from scratches if laid face down in smooth surface. What amuses me is that front screen is scratch proof but not the camera lens. I don't really like to put case. Maybe I should paste 1mm think rubber on two sides of the lens to prevent from getting scratches.
Actually, the front screen isn't scratch proof.

[Q] Galaxy Note main camera lens cover material?

Can anyone confirm what the Note's main camera lens cover material is made of? Plastic, glass, gorilla glass?
I am considering getting a Note, but my current HTC Desire has a plastic lens cover which gets scuffed and scratched easily degrading the photo quality greatly.
I'd like my next phone to have a tough, scratch resistant lens cover.
As far as I know the lens is just ordinary plastic. If I were you I'd get a silicone skin to prevent scratches from rough surfaces I don't have any scratches on my lens yet but I handle my phone pretty careful and I don't ever put it together with my keys in my pocket.

Camera Lens Protector

Not sure if anyone has concern about scratching the camera lens, but I don't like taking chances when there is such an easy solution.
I cut down a screen protector to a diameter a little larger than the lens so that all edges remained under the battery cover. I placed the screen protector over the lens with the battery cover off, then reinstalled the cover over top.
Presto: lens protected. Has no effect on picture and movie quality and adds a bit of peace of mind.
I had first tried this over the battery cover, but under a cheap case I had, but it didn't fit against the lens front since the lens is slightly recessed below the cover.
I simply used the throwaway shipping screen protector the phone with and cut it down, but you could use any cheap screen protector. (ebay: about $1)
Note: Be sure to use a plain, clear screen protector. tinted/anti-glare, or others may change your picture quality.

[Q] Screen protector to cover the WHOLE surface?

Hey guys, so I just got my membrane screen protectors for the nexus 4, installation was pretty quick and bubble-less. I noticed tho, not all of the surface is covered.. just the screen. The edges and the other parts of the frontal glass are not covered and therefore scratch-exposed. I googled a bit and found out there probably is no screenprotector which allows FULL cover of the surface.
Can you guys confirm? I think these Membrane protectors I got are just bad.. crazy cheap price for 6 protectors. They are crystal clear tho.

It has a slight curve at the edges which doesn't allow for complete adhesion, and at the top for the camera and prox sensors need to be open...so someone decided.

Thanks man. So which protector covers more?
I always have taken my phones to Ghost Armor, they cover everything for $40. They'll replace all of it for $10. It's almost rubber feeling but it's crystal clear.

$40? That's a lot for a screen protector. I'll just stick to Membrane protectors
To anyone having tried both Membrane screen protectors and Mediadevil protectors, which one is the best? My membrane protectors get veeeery dirty with fingerprints and crap, and cleaning up is not that easy. Crystal clear tho.
The screen protectors have to expose a few essential parts like the the front camera and proximity sensors etc. I don't see what the problem is as just about all of them cover a large percentage, unless you want to paint the phone in wood gloss.
You can use Skinomi wet screen protector and it seems to have a larger surface area and curves around the side edges of the phone. But that expose the screen protector to cases, when you put a case on, the case edges will dig into the screen protectors and lift it up. Skinomi is pretty good with resisting fingerprints and smudges for me.
I'm currently using the "iloome tempered glass" and the only thing it exposes are the front sensors.

Ordered a couple Mediadevil today from Amazon, in a week or so I'll get them. Don't mind if it doesn't cover the entire surface (btw I knew FFC and proximity sensors don't have to be covered).
