Can the AT&T G2 be rooted at this time on the latest OS update? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The title says it all.
I recently bought an AT&T Note 3 on 4.4.3, could not root, and went nuts.
I do not want to end up in the same boat again.
So is it safe to buy an AT&T branded LG G2 off contract with the intention to root etc?
Is there a more favored model for rooting than the AT&T model?

Yes...

Note I vs Note III ATT Should I?

I have the International Original N7000 Note. It is unlocked and I have used it on ATT since it came out. I'm rooted and have Rocket ROM on it
Since it was always my phone, I never worried about ATT giving me a hard time about it being Rooted.
But I am thinking of upgrading to the new Note 3 from ATT.
I'm sure ROMs will be developed for it.
What are the pitfalls with ATT if I root the phone? Other than they wouldn't support it if I bricked it.
Will they Brick it with an Update?
Will they detect it is rooted and give me a hard time?
Looks pretty sharp and I can sell my Unlocked International note for some pretty good change still. But I know I'll want to root the phone.
The AT&T boot loader is locked. It will need to be cracked before a custom ROM is possible, and the S4 hasn't been cracked since the original vulnerability was "fixed" .
You may be out of luck with AT&T.

Hmmm, so none of the ATT branded notes could be rooted?
I'll have to look into some other LTE version perhaps.

They may sell the international version, but I don't know if that's unlocked/ rooted. Keep in mind, carrier unlocked isn't the same. e as bootloader unlocked

I see on youtube about Custom ROMs being loaded on ATT Note I and II.
So I'm trying to figure out what you guys are talking about here.

Does anyone know where I could get the code to unlock my phone? Most unlocking website seem to only support D800 and D802. Thanks!

www.cellunlocker.net Got my Bell G2 done in about 5 minutes. They give you several numbers, but the NCK one worked for me.

Have not tried anything yet. I saw someone had a failed attempt to root on a Rogers version so I was waiting for someone else to take the plunge first.

Did you try thecubed updated root? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45692679#post45692679
It never hurts to try; root can't really screw up your phone lol.
EDIT: On a completely unrelated note, what about unlocking? is your G2 on contract with Bell?

No, I bought my G2 off Craigslist, BNIB, off contract, but sim unlocked it through cellunlocker.net.
Out of curiosity, how much does cellunlocker charge to unlock the G2?

I used cellunlockerpro and cost me $ 1.50 and took 5 mins. You buy credits with this site and I had some already.

New to Samsung Note Series

Recently I purchased a note 3 off ebay to use tell Im available for an upgrade. I'm not sure what software version is on it cause I haven't gotten it. Just have a few questions.
Is the only way you can root is in 4.4.2 ?
If the phone comes can't I downgrade from 5.0 to 4.4.4 and them to 4.4.2.
Please understand I'm new to Samsung so not sure it all works. Coming from all htc devices like DNA and one max.

no, you can root Lollipop as well.
there are ways to downgrade but you have to be careful...
Look out for threads in General section and work on the method specific to your model (about downgrade)

Do not downgrade. Why would you do that?
No it is not the same, flashing other variants roms will brick yours. Or supersu twrp etc.

Verizon version is not rootable, nor does it accept custom recoveries. You better choose another variant, if that is important to you.

Because it has locked bootloader, right?
So there is no way to unlock the bootloader like with Sonys? Like asking for unlock code from Verizon?

You are correct. Samsung phones all come bootloader unlocked, unless the carriers wants them locked (as was the case with Verizon and AT&T for the Note 4).
The locked versions have almost never successfully been unlocked.
So if you can, stay away from these two variants.

Then why are people saying I can root it.... I do know the phone is coming networked unlocked. I find it crazy that if you can't unlock a verizon bootloader that there are roms that support verizon.
So what your telling me is there's no possible way to root even on stock so i can run xposed framework.?

Some firmware versions have vulnerabilities, which can be exploited to gain root/install safestrap. Some versions allow downgrading to vulnerable versions. But not all.
You should check the Verizon forums for more information http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3.

No. Verizon uses CDMA and will not allow 3rd party phones on their network. T-Mobile uses GSM and will NOT work on Verizon network. Period. You MUST use a Verizon branded device on Verizon network.

I have a freedom s8 and currently there is no root but you can expect a root within the next few weeks. But since the bootloader cannot be unlocked, you cant flash any roms or anything. I would suggest getting an exynos s8 (wifi calling dosent seem to be coming anyways)
All Canadian S8 are SD can't be rooted, Rogers freedom bell MTS Telus XAC etc... all falls under SM-950W or SM-955W. Someone is working on the US version. so soon we can.

Convert H871 to H873?

Who has the AT&T model and converted to the Canadian model? It seems theres a few posts on it but really not a lot of info of experiences.
I know how to use LGUP etc, but its been a general rule to NOT flash wrong model firmwares and I even have to tell people myself in some of my threads But does Antirollback no apply to the AT&T G6? Just flash via uppercut and good to go?
Why would you want to convert to H873?
What are the pro's?
Asking cos I am new to g6 added looking for info if h873 can work ok on At&t USA

The LS997 firmware does give volte. But once done sadly no returning back to AT&T firmware due to lack of having it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g6/how-to/convert-upgrade-att-g6-to-h873-oreo-t3791848 I posted a guide awhile back. But no returning if you ever do it.
Talking about my website? Lol I blew the fish up with fireworks. The videos on my site where just tests I never removed [emoji23]
H.Smokes that fish went to hell or heaven in a hand basket! Firework effects look better than some slugs through it. I will check out the vid later.
I am hunting for the US997. A clueless buddy has a US997, he says. He sent me that the unit has LGUS997AUSAPL. How do I make sure this is not the US997U USCellular ver.?

That I’m unsure on how to check for the US.Cellular version. But yeah would avoid it. I currently run US997 firmware on my H871.
Looking at what you posted it seems to be the unlocked version. Might could ask what the IMEI is, it should tell if it is or not.

So you can just flash us997 fw on h871, no root is needed prior? Is it just kdz flash or is there a specific set of steps? If so, any link?
Also boot loader on h871 is not unlockable so it's limited to stock roms only, custom roms are not flushable, correct?
Do you know if you can flash US997 or any gsm fw on Verizon vs988 same way as for h871?
What about flashing h870fw on h872 t mobile?

Only h871 to LS997 or H873. You’d brick your device if you did. Only T-Mobile firmware for the H872
