[Q] In Japan, Can't make up my mind! - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to all:laugh:. As my title implies, I am currently living in Japan where the GS 5 went on sale a few weeks ago. I first was really excited about it and even more so when I was able to hold it since the design seems to have received a lot of undeserved hate.
Since the official announce of the LG G3 however, I can't help but think that the it would be better for me since it has more features I want to use namely OIS and knock code.
Here is the catch, it seems LG has no plans to release the LG G3 in Japan other than in a somehow modified version in the form of the LG Isai:
http://www.gizbot.com/mobile/lg-isai-fl-officially-launched-features-5-5-inch-quad-hd-display-news-017078.html
That phone looks very plasticky and will probably drop the optical OIS for a regular digital one.
I have been hesitating between getting the GS 5 and waiting until the next generation of smathphones in the winter or next year.
All that said, I am still very attracted to the Japanese GS 5 since it offers a charging dock that directly connects to the phone without needing to remove the USB flap.

I would just like to have some opinions concerning the overall value of the phone especially fromusers with kids: can you manage to take good and blur-free indoor pics of your kids?
Do you think the OIS makes it worth sticking to my GS 2 until the next Galaxy?
I really want to fall in love with that phone and buy it.
Thanks a lot!
David

Consider GS5 and G3, both are good devices, able to take indoor picture clearly.
Why not just go to store and try it, I'm sure this is the best way to clear your mind
If you want to wait until G3 release, maybe the next GS is coming after G3 release, just sayin.
Plus, you are using GS2, so better stick with GS series, so you don't need to get used to it again.
I mean the layout and buttons

Very true. I actually went to try in the store but since they do not have the LG 3, I have nothing to compare the GS 5 to. It seems great but I still can't find the "wow" factor. What phone do you have?

I just got GS5 recently, I was thinking to get G3 but I picked GS5 at the end.
I've used iPhone 5, Sony Xperia Z, Z1, GS series and note 2.
I'm a kind of person like to control my phone with one hand and waterproof, and I'm sure you won't find any "surprise" point on GS5
GS5 is little bit disappointment because of the 2GB RAM and too many model number, such as G900F, G900K...etc.
Have to say, it confused people when they have GS5.
If you are heavy duty user, you should wait for G3, because G3 have 3GB of RAM.
Sony is also good, good camera module but their camera software are blurry somehow.
I will recommend to get GS5 or wait for G3 which is more valuable.

it hasn't been confirmed that g3 has 3gb ram as the korean version only comes with 2gb
z2 camera and s5 are on the same page, each one has its own bread and butter. but it is rumor that z2 has buggy camera hardware which could not be fixed by software update. I experienced z2 once, the fone getting hot very quickly if you take photos or 4k filming from 5 to 7 mins and cause fc.
having all said that, it depends on how you feel. for me, I bought s5 simply its over-redundance features and great community development. it doesn't look gorgeous but I believe it will not be out-dated in the next 3-4 years because galaxy families have many renowned developers support.

Babygau, I have never thought about community support but am intrigued by what you said. What do you mean, practically? I can't say I am a power user of android, mostly average I guess.

Hey, please note that custom software development for the special version of Galaxy S5 with the charging dock will be minimal since it is a quite rare model (this applies to the Isai as well). Hence if you are planning to root, and install custom ROM you might have a poor experience.
With that said, the Isai has a better screen and more RAM which suggests smoother real life performance while the Galaxy S5 has a better physical design for those with kids due to IP67 resistance.
So it is up to you to decide whether you would like better software performance or a higher degree of "child-proofing".

THanks for the tip. I did not realize that rooting may not work on some models. I also heard it trips the KNOX counter and thus void the warranty. ALthough I have been playing with IOS and PCs for a few years, I am still scared of having too much fun with rooting on android...

Sony is trash. Software updates come late, bug ridden and laggy. Also Sony devices get stupidly hot.
And I don't see how 2gb of RAM is bad...my gs5 idles using 1.1gb out of 1.8gb of ram.
Also, only the 32gb model G3 will have 3gb of RAM, 16gb will have 2gb of RAM.

WoW! I wish the US version had the dock charging option! DAMN!

Thanks all for your advice. The funny thing is that some video comparison of LG G3 and GS5 camera are up on youtube and while they look legit, the differences are either small or the GS5 has better colors. I am pretty sure though that the LG phone is not fully optimized and as such the quality of the pics isn't either.

Opinions about buying LG G2

Hi all, sorry for posting this here but I really need some input from the honest folks of XDA whom I trust most
I have Xperia X10 & I want to buy a new phone, my three options are Note 3, Xperia Z1 & LG G2
now I really wanted to go for Note 3 because of s pen & big size but the problem is that Snapdragon 800 version is not released with warranty for where I live & I have doubts buying a Samsung device without warranty
I played a bit with Xperia Z1 & noticed the overheating issue around the lens & worse yet it shuts down the camera & doesn't let you use it unless the device is cooled down
I played with LG G2 & found no issues at all, really loved the device & its innovations, the price is also lower than those two here, the only thing is I heard a few things about LG phones in general that makes me worried, a few people say that lg phones' batteries get worse after some months & you'll get half the battery life you got during first days, Also they say that because of G2's many software features the phone will lag after some months (which sounds kinda stupid really) but since my budget is really really limited & I will stuck with whatever I choose for two or three years I need some honest input from the people who own this device for some months now
Thanks a lot, Really appreciate it
Here's my somewhat biased answer:
1. I avoid Sony products like the plague. Not very good experience in the past.
2. I don't like the Xperia line, their designs are not that good to me (way too square-ish).
3. I've been a Samsung user for the last three devices Samsung S2, Samsung S3 Mini and Samsung Note 1, all of them great devices except two things: Build quality (chromes come off easily) but above all, AMOLED screens tend to burn-in over time. So I decided to avoid AMOLED screens from now on.
4. I decided to try LG G2 due to it been the first Snapdragon 800 CPU and it's gorgeous IPS screen but most of all, its INCREDIBLE BATTERY LIFE! which is something every other brand lacks (maybe except the Motorola Droid MAXX). Other great aspects: super thin, almost no bezel which allows the screen to be almost phablet size!
I would suggest you to try LG G2, it will not disappoint you! :good:
Just make sure you get the 32 GB version!

I Personally like the Z1 and the G2
The Z1 overheating issues is only present if you take video like a mad person or play games as if its a PSP from my understanding.
Remember these are still phones. And if you plan to play games on it for 6-8 hours straight and get it overheating, you are in need of a Handheld or tablet. It should not overhead on normal usage.
G2 I have so far has great battery life. What u should do to Li-Ion every now and then though is run it completely dead and recharge it so the system can calibrate the battery again. a lot of times that's the issue. That's the same thing people say with Motorolas also but I been fine with miens for 1 1/2 years
I went with the G2 due to price. Instead of the Note I had the HTC one as my third option.
The new phones are all soo powerful it mainly comes down what u want to use it for and what fits ur pocket and style.
I like the size, Screen, Powerplant, Battery of the G2 and the Price at under $300 used in mint condition was a steal to me.
Else I went for the HTC one at little over 325,.... The Sony was nice but the price was not right for me. Nor did it feel comfi in my hand.
But again those are my personal reason on why I picked the G2
1. Sony make POS phone, I despise their products, even their GOOGLE TV sucks, funny thing is I'm getting ready to buy their noise cancelling headphone. They dont listen to customer, the same problem that happen in the XZ is happen on the XZ1S viewing angle. also the battery is surprisingly not good at all.
2. Note 3 is good but too big for my hand. my rules of thumb is, if I cant wrap my thumb and middle finger around the phone, then it is too big for me
3. LG G2 is an awesome phone, if I switch to any other phone it would be because I'm bored of Android, not because of the phone. battery last me all day with everything turn on (no battery saving app BS)
I traded the XZ for HTC one, the HTC one came close to beating it, but the over heating and battery got me to switch to the LG G2. If you do want the Note 3, take a look at the HTC one max, I think they fix it to where it doesnt overheat.
I had a Xperia Z1 and man, its a joke... Full of issues, touchscreen, battery, lag in homescreen, random reboots... I replaced it 5 times and all have the same issues.
Now i have an Lg G2 and, oh my really f**** god... Its wonderful! its the best phone i have had so far. The IPS screen provide a really good quality, it impress me the first time i saw it.
Buy an LG and you will like it as heaven.
Buy a Sony and play Russian roulette.
Buy a Samsung and you will have a good phone ( i dont have it so i dont say anything about it )
Thanks all for your input, That makes me want this phone even more over the other two
so those of you who have this phone for some months now haven't face any lag or battery life degradation on stock rom??because I know I'm gonna just use the stock rom (because based on my experience with X10 & flashing countless custom roms nothing beats stock in stability)
Also 32 gb is enough for you? I don't have proper access to cloud, for me it'll be some music files, maybe two or three movies, one hd game maybe & also I need 2-3 gb for maps to use it for offline gps, with these can I install many apps without any issues?
Thanks again for your useful comments
Also about HTC one max its price is really over my budget, also its camera is just not that good in daylight
any comment on the storage?
I'm off to buy my new phone next week
Yes 32gb is enough for your usage! But of course as anything else, you should not abuse it!

You will have 24 GB storage after system apps. There is some occasional stutter when scrolling but that's the only lag I've experienced.

I thought of that initially too... But it was not a dealbreaker at all!
I use several storage options:
1. Cloud Storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc)
2. Personal wireless NAS Storage when at home.
3. USB Host through OTG cable and usb memory.
Besides, unless you purchase a high speed micro sd, external storage through microsd is basically useless due to their low performance compared with the internal storage. Even some Class 10 microsd are not as fast as internal storage.
Anyway, just be sure to get those video recordings out of your device soon, because they are HUGE! lol...
Cheers!
I have that Russian cloud storage which gave me 1TB of free storage due to a now finished promo. Box.com gives you 50 GB free storage when you sign in using a LG phone but cloud storage isn't that fast really.

I agree, stock it great....i just installed a debloated version and the up side to the root Rom is charging isn't limited on cheap chargers, bloatware removal and a small boost of battery life.
I would highly recommend the LG G2, i swap phones alot and my all time favorite was the HTC One due to its build quality and boom sound speakers but since i started using the G2 Im so in love with it. Great battery life and the a huge screen that is prefect for one hand use due to the lack of screen bezel.
The only main issue i had with the G2 was the UI, although it preforms well but the colors used are so stupid and might make the phone look cheap, so i replaced all the main ugly looking apps with others from the Play store ( No root required) im talking about the Dialer, Messaging & keyboard.
Hope that helps making up ur mind.
i think the verizon G2 is the best bang for the buck
the gsm is unlocked
wireless charging built in
I like the stock LG keyboard.
for everything else
there are LOTs of ROMS :good::good::good:
I am also looking for my next phone.
At first considered Note 3, but after a bit of reading around, its buggy firmwares scared me off plus i am not interested in S pen features.
Then thought of One Max, but no OIS like One, and snapdragon 600 not very futureproof either. Great screen and audio though. But having this big of a phone and still compromise on specs was a no go.
Now i am down to LG G2. I guess this might be it. I could care less about having latest android version as for me it is already mature enough. Phone stability and battery life are what i am looking for with decent horsepower.
I am pretty much a samsung fanboy! Not to the extreme but I have been in love with the galaxy series.
I was using the galaxy S3 when a offer for the LG G2 came up, which i could not refuse, so i 'gave it a go' and in my complete honesty i have never looked back and had no regrets.
The phone is amazing and can guarentee it will compete with most if not all the upcoming phones this year!! The speed is just out of this world and the first thing people comment on when trying my phone. Battery.....well what can I say, WOW!!!! Button placement is actually very nice, but due to LGs actual useful features I dont touch the buttons for days on end!
Storage.......yes this can be a problem, and its the one thing people turn round to me and say its the thing tgat stops them getting the phone. But i have learnt to live with it with no problems. My gallery is now linked to my dropbox so save space there, and i just delete gilms and series once i have watched them. To me i have no issues with storage.
Overall i can not reccomend this phone enough! I did not mention so much like screen and bezel and overall size if phone as they are just obviously perfect.

Guys I hope you don't mind me tagging onto this thread.
I killed my Xperia Z Ultra yesterday, I reversed over it, its complete roadkill now... :crying:
Anyway that aside I am seriously considering the G2 now it can be gotten for such a reasonable price and the hardware/battery etc. is so much better than the Nexus 5.
Im completely sold on the hardware but I do like stock android though so will probably go with an AOSP Rom at some point.
Can someone tell me if I can still root and put custom recovery on the latest LG firmware... I just won't be happy if I'm stuck with the stock LG firmware forever.
Really appreciate if someone could answer that for me conclusively as I have my finger on the trigger of buying one. :good:
you probably can, otherwise you grab an old kdz somewhere downgrade(via return to stock method, posted here somewhere), root and upgrade
anybody have experience with that?

I really enjoyed using it... The camera was typical tablet quality, very poor and I found myself not bothering to take photos of moments I would have like to have captured,
The size I got used to but it was what ultimately lead to its demise, It must have fell out of my pocket getting into the car and I reversed over it. Its roadkill now :crying: Will get a replacement on the insurance and sell it on.
The things I had the huge screen for, ie watching movies and gaming I found I never had time to do anyway... I don't regret getting the Ultra but its time for something with similar performance but a lot more practical and I think for me thats the G2,

Anyone considering a Galaxy S5 upgrade?

I know it's not too much of an upgrade.. but I'm considering it because I like Samoled displays.. especially if they improved the whites on the GS5's screen like I've read. Also the camera looks pretty great .. super fast action and real time preview HDR. also.I kinda miss the hardware'ish buttons versus our software on screen buttons. I however don't enjoy Touchwiz.. but a good launcher will help that. Also the phone looks a little tacky on the back as well as looks like the gs2 from the front. Any other pro's/con's? I guess it's pretty subjective. Kudos for Lg though on a device that will last at least 2 upgrade life-cycles at least and still be relevant.
umm not exactly, G2 is a neat device.
Potential ways are -> htc m8 or LG G3 when it comes out
Will not because Sam$hit will shove Exynos down our throats in India.
I just switch from S4 to G2. I saw the S5. Not tad interested with it. That's why I switch to G2 immediately. It's about the same in specs. I like the G2 designs much better. Hope LG keeps up with the Android version though..
The s5 has Knox.. If you love both flashing and and warranty, screw Samsung and their **** hahaha
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
No.
I had all the Galaxy S devices up to the S4, I really don't see the need to switch from my G2 to the S5. Nothing new or revolutionary there.
Had an S3, S4, and then switched to the G2. I love this phone so much more than either of the Galaxies I had. I was very disappointed with the S5 announcement and am definitely looking forward to learning more about the G3. The OnePlus One is also a very interesting contender.
Will be moving from the g2 to the m8. Development on the htc is in a different league. The g2 has too many variants which is a headache for developers and users. My biggest concern with the htc was the battery life, and so far most reviews have been showing very good results. As far as the s5 i think its the biggest disappointment of the year.

Nope!
God no. I felt sorry for Samsung back when Apple fought them, but now they're just complete trash.
How is the s5 an "Upgrade" that would be a lateral move at best. But considering g2 was released last year, and the s5 isn't even out ...... that's a bad sign lol
I had all Galaxy S devices and I enjoyed developing for them but I trade my S4 for the following reasons.
1. Knox bootloader, 2. Camera on my S3 was better in zooming than my S4, 3, same **** like Iphone I wanted something different.
So my only choices was either the G2 or the HTC ONE and I got the G2 because Camera was a big issue for me and that Htc one had a ****ty camera, 4MP will always be 4MP so at cropping and zooming was not good and specially that hardware issue with purple ink pictures at low light.
Now then I dropped my G2 and cracked the screen. I was giving it a big thought about getting another phone instead of fixing mine but there were no other phones that satisfy me as the G2 so I fixed.
Now to your question..... Yes the S5 have a good camera specks and the new HTC ONE does too but LG still havent released the G3 and I'm sure it will be a killer. That new M8 sure looks good but still a 4MP so not for me.

[Q] HELP LG G2 or S4

I am torn between subscribing a two year contract between lg g2 and s4. I dont take into account the newer phones cuz they are a lot expensive. Which should I purchase? I am more into camera, games and multimedias. The things stopping me from leaning to lg g2 is the wierd button placement and the non expandable storage. Is it really uncomfortable in using the volume and wake buttons? I had been reading reviews thesee past few days and alot of the says the speaker are weak and its placement is not good. It csn be easily obstructed by hands. But I do think the g2 is better than s4 due to newer processor and gpu. Any advice on this matter? Thanks in advance

I've had similar doubts recently, and decided to move from Galaxy series to LG.
My first impression regarding buttons position is that there is a perfect reason to put them at the back. I'ts just a matter of getting just on them, and it took one day.
Camera is quite nice, with quality photos in all conditions. If you are devoted mobile photographer, maybe there are some better choices, but for an average user, camera is more that one can expect. (Good camera review)
Speaker is kinda week, and can be obstructed by hands, but, it is not bad at all.
G2 is really a beast, no need to talk about hardware. It isl really a superb smartphone with exceptional screen.
Software is surprisingly nice and friendly to advanced users. I am Cyanogenmod fan, but can live with LG stock ROM without any problems.
If you don't need tons of files on the phone, and don't need long HD video recordings, lack of external storage should't be to hard to live with.
If it means anything, I really believe that currently G2 is a best buy and smart choice

I can live with weak speakers since usually im using headset. But a photowhore hahaha lol. I tend to snap photos every now and then. But the limited memory makes me think twice. I love lg g2 but I also love saving up video clips so I ca watch them back every free time. And also does the g2 have a good community support with awesome devs? I tried searching for miui for g2 but I found no favorable response

Thanks in advance

the S4 is a great phone, but if you purchase a s4 you'll get a Triband version. I just came out of the S4 and the development is no where near where the LG G2 is. The sprint S4 SPH-L720T can use all of the regular S4 non triband (sph-l720) roms, but guess what, no Spark. If your okay with that, then there is alot of roms and development on the S4. However, on the LG G2 they have more roms and they the roms work across all the variants. That is one reason i really liked it.
The LG G2 already comes with a really close AOSP feel. In fact, out of the box there is very much small things you actually have to do to get it to AOSP. And whatever is missing you can get with Xposed Framework. I sure do not regret it. Even the battery life is better on the G2 because its slightly bigger. The AMOLED screen on the galaxy series have started to bother me becaause im a Graphic Designer and the colors are just too vibrant. On the G2 the colors are right on the money as its the same color space SRGB compared to our monitors. Good lucks man, this device is amazing, it does not get the attention it should. I like Galaxy though because the Developing (for the non triband version) is extremely extremely ahead of its game. But, as long as i have recovery, root and of course deoxed and init, kernel and underclocked, im a happy camper. Sorry for any mistakes, i dont wanna go and proofread. lol

the g2 community is great and the devs are awesome, and offer plenty of support for their roms, there is currently no working miui port for the g2 if that's what you are looking for(there is a v6 port somewhere but it doesn't boot), the 32gb version should satisfy you unless you planning on recording hours of 4k videos(supported with camera mod), also if you are into photography than the stock camera is not all that worth it, root and camera mod will do wonders for the phone
Man no doubt!! G2 is amazing!! is better than S4...
true
That is true, G2 win.
As you may see at STUFF.TV G2 is at second place, beating even S5
Same question asked in Facebook android group before buying LG G2 ......

I spent a lot of time researching these two options. I had a slightly different short list of functionality that I wanted (both that I could or couldn't live without). The G2 has better hardware specs than the S4, as you probably know, and the benchmarks generally beat it (which gets to your multimedia/gaming requirements). But, they're both great phones and i'm sure you wouldn't have problems with either. They are similar, outstanding phones.
I decided on the G2 because of its camera OIS (only android phone that has it, period). And, it consistently got better reviews on almost all photography-type sites than any other android phone (s4 included). I love the camera, it is very good (for a phone). I just put its HDR pictures and videos on a 720p 50 inch TV - they look outstanding. Obviously not as good as a real camera...

OnePlus one or Samsung Galaxy S5 or another phone?

Hello,
I want to buy a new phone for my self, the thing are importent to me is : camera and powerfull device (games, apps, all will run smooth and without any problems in the future),the last thing is a good quality,i mean:the phone i used so far was an iphone 5 which is a good quality phone made from Metalic thingy,oh and the last thing is the battery,i need a good battery also.
*if isn"t the right fourm please replace it*
Do some research and make the decision for yourself. These kinds of threads are pointless, all you're going to get is a bunch of conflicting opinions and then you'll be left to have the decision for yourself anyway.

From reading reviews and feedback from users it would seem that the Oneplus One would meet your needs. I previously had the S4, moved to the HTC One M8 last month and have been considering the OPO. The M8 is a great phone with arguably the best design/build quality out there at the moment. Things which tempt me are the price, great value for money, the 64GB storage space. My M8 is 16GB which isnt great when you only have access to around 9GB, I have an sd card but you cant install apps directly to it. The fact it runs stock/custom stock android and is so easy to root/unlock/flash etc. The extra RAM and bigger battery are also advantages.

In terms of processors they all run the Snapdragon 801 with the Adreno 330 GPU, so on paper are evenly matched, with the One also have 3GB of RAM along with the G3 (depending on model) whereas the S5 has 2GB. In the real life scenario you could say that the One has more resources to play with as its running a much leaner version of android (ie not skinned/minus bloat). The power of each device would probably be based on your own usage and expectations of 'power'. Theres plenty of videos on youtube showing side by side comparisons/benchmarks etc that are also worth a look.
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/OnePlus-One,Samsung-Galaxy-S5,LG-G3/phones/8603,8202,8347
All run SD801, CPU wise not an issue. OPO has 3GB ram vs 2GB on the others (G3 depending what model you get) OPO & S5 run 1080p screens with the G3 housing a 2K screen etc etc. They are all evenly matched, name your price choose your device.
After using OPO for 2 months, the only 2 phones I see as it's replacement now are:
1) Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Better processor, better screen, better camera. Almost the same size. Forget about Galaxy S5 But Touchwiz.... Yuk! Hate it.
2) Sony Xperia Z3. Best camera on Android (only iPhone 6 camera is better), very good battery life. And good user inteface, better than Touchwiz.
So far i can see clearly that the OPO is better,is had the same proccesor and better battery it's look like i'll choose the OPO,because if the OPO better then the S5 isn't reason to pay more (only the IPS67 is a good reason but not enough).
Thanks alot ,
i asked in another fourm im my country and people told me to buy S5 but i trust this fourm more.

The build quality on the M8 isn't that good, speaker grills loose and not aligned, volume button loose, htc letters falling off and it marks really easy although mine was unmarked but all my phones are the same.

Funny, you say that the Z3 is the best android phone camera and then you link a video that shows that it's anything but the best android camera, so which is it?
The reason for my post quoting you was because you said that the iPhone 6 camera was better than the Z3 camera but that is like saying that a Mercedes F1 car is better than a McLaren F1 car, yes it is but it is not like it had a lot to be better than.
I wonder why they didn't have a Nokia in that comparison in that test.
Anyway thanks for the laugh.

Don't get me wrong, I love Z2/Z3 camera. I owned Z2 for 2 months, and it's camera was superb! What I mean is - OPO's camera produces VERY mediocre photos. For example - this shot was taken on Z2 without any editing.
http://s010.radikal.ru/i312/1410/42/a43d189886f7.jpg
OPO's camera doesn't produce such good colours (at least on CM ROM, I haven't tried ColorOS). So it's kinda stupid to recommend someone OPO, if he needs good camera. Xperia Z2/Z3 suit his needs much better, and Z2 is quite cheap now, because it's not flagship anymore.
I'd probably get the note 4 if not for AT&T locking it down. Same with Verizon.
One plus is excellent though I'm quite happy with it.
I had the galaxy s5. I was hoping to put a gpe rom on it, but it never came out. I got really frustrated by touchwiz and the lag it caused. I really liked the camera and screen of the s5, but decided to give it to my sister and ordered the opo. I am still very happy with my choice. The only thing that I miss is the lte. Good luck making a decision.

The OPO is cheaper and has more RAM, thats it. Oh and tons of bugs and a yellow band at the bottom of the display and no customer service.
If you have the money, get anything else.

Are you, LG G2 owners, upgrading to the LG G4?

Hello XDA.
This is a thing that has puzzled me a bit, so first I'll present my own point of view and then I'd really like to hear what you guys think.
You can see pictures of the G4 here http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-G4-leaks-in-all-of-its-glory_id68166
My G2 has served me really well, and honestly it doesn't have to be replaced. It's still very fast and gets the job done. However, after 1 ½ year it gets old - it has never been the most interesting phone design-wise and with the new phones having a much more attractive design you get tempted. Add to that, that the battery isn't what it used to be either. What made me buy it back then, was it's absolutely fantastic internals at an affordable price. And I don't regret purchasing it.
The LG G4 looks great - especially in leather - and the fact that it has MicroSD support and a removable battery means that I won't run short of storage (especially when flashing and keeping backups on the phone) and wiping internal storage is no longer a headache. The camera is supposed to be brilliant, but we'll have to see how it works out in real life. The screen looks promising - rumors say it's using 'Quantum Dot' display which results in better color accuracy and is more battery efficient. All good so far!
But according to the latest rumors, this thing comes with a Snapdragon 808. And mildly put, it doesn't look too well. Sure LG didn't have many options - either go with the overheating 810 or put in a worse 808. Not only is the 808 worse than the 810, it's also worse than the 805 in terms of GPU capabilities and power. It's not much but last year most people considered a Snapdragon 805 the absolute minimum requirement for a phone with a QHD display. We all saw how the LG G3 performed with its QHD display - it wasn't bad, but by no means impressive.
I think that LG should've sticked to the 810 and disable two of the four A57 cores on a kernel level. I'm sure a 4+2 setup is plenty processing power, but the Adreno 430 GPU outperforms the Adreno 418 (found in the Snapdragon 808) by a huge margin. In addition to that, Snapdragon 810 supports DDR4 RAM.
I'm torn, and thinking to wait for the Samsung Note 5 and hope it won't come with a UHD display. What are your thoughts?
The Lg g2 had been my best ✆ for three years. It was gorgeous, it was very fast, it lasted all day.
I wasn't impressed with the G3 but I think the G4 has my name written on it. They've had some time to play with the configuration, I'm sure it will be excellent.
They're going to have to crank up the design next year though. Just saying.

eh i will skip G4 becouse i bought my G2 one year ago and i still need to stay with it for 12 months, but i will probably buy G5 or other 2016 flagship phone
As lg phones are locked down, I'm not gonna buy it. The g2 is great and is still the greatest phone they made. But as a flashaholic and someone who likes modding their phone, an unlocked bootloader is very important to me. I only bought the g2 because it was such great value. It turned out to be such a powerful and fun little beast though with a great community as well. It was lightening in a bottle. But my criteria is a bit more strict now. I'll be sticking with the 1+ for a while
No need. I see no advantage to upgrading because my G2 can do everything I need it to. When I get another phone it'll be a nexus or the Asus Zenphone 2, whichever has the larger community.

Either this or I just may break down and grab a Note 5 or S6 Edge after they iron the initial kinks out.
We'll see... G3 is a good phone and would rank higher if the G2 didn't exist but wasn't great enough to make me sell My G2.
With that said...let the games begin

With the G2 being a beast phone there's really not enough to convince me why I should upgrade to the G4 besides the Camera, Removable Battery and Expandable Storage. I live perfectly fine without a Removable Battery and Expandable Storage and the G2 has 32GB of Internal Memory and a 3000mAh battery.. so why bother? There's more chance of me getting a 1+ if I was going to upgrade. I have yet to experience a world with an unlocked bootloader.
Yay for capitalism!

This will more than likely happen.
G2 is great with me, but looking for better camera with G4.
FullHD is enough, 2k is not really necessary. More important thing is the battery life - which many people said that 2k display on G3 made the battery worse.
I think like the OP. I have a vs980 but I'm seriously thinking about jumping to T-Mobile. I thought I read last year that LG was going to allow unlocked bootloaders going forward with the G3. Given the fact that the G4 has a Snapdragon processor, an external SD card slot and removable batteries I'm thinking there is a lot of potential for a large dev community (especially since the S6 doesn't offer these things). We'll see.
No. I went back to the g2 from the g3 because I didn't like the size. I would get a g4 mini iff it was 5-5.2 and had a high end processor. As it stands now, the s6 and s6 edge look like more suitable replacements
I'm tired of drama
I'm not going to use LG anymore, LG does not satisfy me.
Having owned a few Android devices, I am getting a feeling that the best way to get android experience is to buy a Nexus device. The hardware and the price are only a part of the equation, although we know Nexus devices normally have a great price-performance relation. What makes Nexus so cool is having less pre-installed bloat or custumizations and it's pretty much guaranteed that for the next three years or so you will be the first in the line to get the android updates. Case in point is the stock ROM situation with the current G2. It gives you a glimpse of what it will be like to use the G4 18 months from now. Even though Lollipop 5.1 has come and gone, and the Nexus devices are now running the latest revision of Android 6.0.x, the G2 is still on 5.0.x. Another great example is my Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablet that I bought only a year ago. (This was Samsung's flagship tablet in 2014). Same story here. Still using 5.0, and I imagine Marshmallow is something like six months away and it will be the final update from Samsung. On the other hand, the ancient Nexus 7 is still getting Marshmallow updates.
