Are you able to enter bootloader mode on your phone? (Power on while holding the "volume up" button. If that doesn't work, try pulling the battery and re-inserting it while holding the power and volume up buttons.) Then try connecting to RSD Lite.
If all else fails, you could try using the sbf_flash tool in a linux environment. See here and here for guides.
If you don't have a computer with Linux, you can run it from a usb thumb drive with this. If you haven't used linux before, Ubuntu is probably easiest to use.

i am able to enter to bootloader mode but the phone is been detected as UNKNOWN DEVICE...

That's strange. Does the Bootloader screen say "Battery OK, OK to program, Connect USB Data Cable"? Do you see anything else in RSD Lite besides "Unknown Device"?
You could try using USBDeview on your PC to try to figure out what sort of device your PC thinks your phone is. If the phone is in bootloader mode connected properly, you should see "Motorola Flash Interface" listed under the connected devices, and if you double-click on it, you'll see more information that might help with troubleshooting. What driver version do you see there?
I've attached a screenshot so you can see what it's supposed to look like.

Ok, what do you see in USBDeview?

Try in another pc or in a virtual machine of Windows XP, or check in which usb port you're plugging on the cable, in my computer with Windows 8 for example, I have 4 ports on the back of the cpu and 2 on the front, the front ones don't work to use RDSLite but they work for mass storage and debugging without any problems, but for RDSLite I have to use the back ports

That's not good. If your phone is going into bootloader mode but USBDeview isn't picking up any signal from the USB, it may be a hardware problem. How did your phone get bricked? Was its USB port working properly before that?

Hmm, the safewipe script isn't supposed to touch the recovery partition. Can you get into stock recovery? (Take the battery out, then put it back in while holding the volume down and power buttons at the same time.) If you can get into the stock recovery, do a full factory reset, then try flashing an sbf again.

Unable to see phone when in download mode

I'm trying to revert back to stock on my Epic. I previously flashed using Clockwork and wanted to try Odin this time around but when I put the phone into Download mode my computer doesn't recognize the device. I've tried multiple cables and USB ports including one on the board itself. I am using Windows 7x64 and have the 64 bit samsung drivers installed properly. If I do a battery pull and boot the phone normally the computer recognizes the phone no problem.
Any ideas?

I was having a similar issue with my MBpro, nothing would recognize my phone. Tried it on another comp and bingo. I think stuff is just finicky with USB ports. Lame-o.

Yea...this post made my brain hurt...and of course didn't change anything...but..thanks?
Here's another piece of info that may help nail down the problem...
Odin is able to see the phone if I boot into Clockwork recovery mode but because clockwork is up the phone can't receive a flash but Odin does see the phone with no problem. It just still won't see the phone when booted into download mode.

I use windows7 64 too. I encountered tons of problems when trying to flash my epic. first my computer doesn't recognize my phone in download mode. after i wipe out all the drivers and reinstall them. finally i get my computer recognize it under download mode, but Odin froze every time during the flash.
Finally, i tried on another desktop computer with windows XP. Everything went perfectly. So maybe you should try that too.
I cannot connect to my Epic in download mode on mac os x either.
I was trying to install a lag fix, and now all my phone will do when powering on is show switch between the normal Samsung screen, and another reading "Samgung GT I9000".
I can still boot into Clockwork Recovery. But OS X will not recognize my phone.
Either that, or Heimdall isn't recognizing it and won't let me flash.
Help! Any ideas?

If OS X isn't recognising your phone it's likely your phone has the buggy secondary bootloader. Samsung corrected the bootloader for at least the GT-I9000 JPA firmware but I'm unsure if they have done so for other devices or firmware releases.
Unfortunately the only solution then is to use Windows or Linux. If you don't have access to a system running either of these OS then I recommend downloading a 64-bit release (assuming your PC has a 64-bit CPU) of Ubuntu, then you can download the Heimdall binaries from my website and use it to recover your phone.
i had an extremely similar issue as to what you are having. I have 3 win 7 machines and 1 xp, none worked. I went to a friends house he has 2 win 7s and an xp also didnt work. I did a general search and found all kinds of crap. One dude something about using his chicks blackberry usb cord and suddenly it worked on any and all of the machines it had previously not worked. so at the time im reading this on my chicks laptop which has a damn blackberry cord attached to it chargin her evo(go figure) ... anyway u didnt need the whole story but i have nothing to do right now.
Point is everyone says try different cords, i say try the damn blackberry cord if you happen to have one or a friend that has one.

Is it the hardware on the Macbook pro itself? or just the OS? in other words, If I were to partition my macbook with ubuntu would that work with heimdall? would it be able to recognize my phone while it's in download mode as opposed to OSX, which couldn't...?

In this particular instance Apple haven't done anything wrong at all, both their hardware and software is fine. The issue is that Samsung are distributing secondary bootloaders that aren't complaint with the USB specifications.
Whilst that is annoying, the good news for you is that you can simply install Linux (Ubuntu etc.) or Windows on your Macbook and you'll be able to flash just fine.

What does your bootloader says? It should look like this:
Code:
Bootloader
09.10
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Then after plug USB, Windows should recognize your Defy. If not, there should be problem with your drivers.
To enter bootloader, turn your phone off, press power on for a sec with Vol+ (don't release Vol+) then after 5seconds press power again.

I tried once more adviced process and now I could repair my phone!
It is definitely needed not only to run Windows as user with administrator rights, but also to set the aplication RST to run as administrator, as adviced in this thread. This can by made with right click on shortcut of RST Lite - select Options - Compatibility - and check Run aplication as administrator.
The description of steps to set must not be 100% correct, I am using another language version of windows.
But, the process worked now for me!
Thanks to everybody who helped and adviced us!
Now I am running stock Froyo 2.2 CEE and want to use Cyanogenmod 10.2
I can not start bootloader with custom recovery when pressing PWR and VOL- anymore. How should I proceed?

Have you installed 2ndinit and the recovery? Download this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1022582&d=1335285945, install it on your phone and open the app. Then press the "install bootmenu" button. Reboot, and when you get blue LED, immediately press volume down.
I assume you have rooted your phone.

It seems that you don't have custom recovery installed and this is a stock one. To flash any custom rom, you have to root and install a custom recovery first. Root eg. with SuperOneClick, install and open 2nd init, then enter 2nd init recovery (VOL DOWN on blue LED) and install TWRP revocery package. TWRP is needed for new roms.

Windows XP has a different approach to running applications.
Since windows Vista was released, MS changed the policy of how apps run.
For apps that access crucial resources need Administrator rights(similar to root permissions). RSD Lite is one such application so it requires to run as admin.

When it's in the download mode it may show up in a different location in the device manager and be listed only as "android".
Do you hear any sound from the computer when you plug it in when in download mode?
What does your download screen look like?
Once these questions are answered, there may be a solution. Hopefully a CDMA device won't be different

It's not hard bricked/
Getting into download mode proves this.
You must get your computer to recognize your device in order to communicate with it. So I would not consider anything else until that is accomplished. PERIOD!
1. Are you using a USB 2.0 port? usb 3.0 will not work a lot of the time. (Important)
2. Have you tried another usb cable?
3. I think we discussed the drivers, I have them if needed
What operating system are you using?
If nothing here helps we can we can use "TeamViewer 9" which will give me control of your computer to help resolve this issue...

Nexus 4 - bricked? - TWRP - no OS installed

Hi All,
I bought a Nexus 4 on eBay thinking I could fix it but I am really struggling.
The nexus 4 has TWRP 2.8.6.0 but that is all.
I cannot enable USB debugging as I don't have any rom installed.
I have tried a USB OTG cable with power, but have learned that the phone still cannot output the right power? The light on my usb stick comes on but TWRP does not list any USB OTG.
This phone does not have an SD card slot, so I cannot load anthing this way.
Is it impossible to get this phone working?
Kind Regards,

Have a look at this thread ..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312
(Read the thread thoroughly, and take notes, its real easy to get lost in the middle of the procedure and mess it up, and having to start again).
Flashing the stock rom is done entirely via fastboot, so you shouldnt need to worry about adb.
If you can boot into bootloader you should be able to flash stock image, once you get the windows drivers sorted. Luckily I'm on a Mac, so drivers haven't been an issue. I had a similar scenario sometime ago, and after flashing stock, all was good in the world again. I may be wrong, but you'll probably need the latest platform-tools (which contains fastboot) if you're flashing the latest stock images. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one).

This is good information, but I cannot get any further that plugging the phone into the PC, I have tried 4 different usb cables and with them all windows 7 and XP says "unknown device".
I wasn't sent the original cable from the owner which I am asking to do if they have it, but it may be a long shot for them to still have it.
Looks like I need the original usb cable?

I don't think the cable needs to be original, I've used a Motorola cable on my N4 to flash stock, with no problems.
Is the phone in fastboot mode when you connect to pc?
Have you tried these drivers?

For information I am using a cable from a usb cable that came from a Nexus 5.
When the phone is connected to the PC it had an android lying down with an open chest.
When pointing to the android developer sdk drivers as above it does it's usual thing of saying it is already up to date below that still saying unknown device. I'm so frustrated right now.

Can you reboot to the main bootloader screen?
The reason i ask is .. When you see the android lying down is there a list below showing the phone stats? If not, possibly this is why windows is reporting an unknown device.
You should try to get back into fastboot
This has the info to get to bootloader if youre not sure how..

When you're in fastboot, try to connect to pc again.

Underneath the android lying down it has:
FASTBOOT MODE (in red text)
PRODUCT_NAME
HW VERSION
BOOTLOADER VERSION
BASEBAND VERSION
CARRIER INFO
SERIAL NUMBER
SIGNING
SECUREBOOT (in green text - enabled)
LOCK STATE (in red text - unlocked)
Above the android lying down I can use the hardware buttons to toggle between "Start | Restart bootloader | Recovery mode | Power off"
Am I in fastboot?

Sounds like youre in the right mode. The problem would likely be on the pc/driver side.
P.S. in fastboot mode, you only need to use fastboot on pc .

The driver issue is a massive stumbling block.
I'm still not sure if the cable will work.
I understand I can use fastboot after the PC recognises the nexus 4.
I have a Lubuntu PC this may help me but I have no idea where to start in terms of the drivers.

I use a mac, so im no use when it comes to linux variants etc.
Depending on the power of your pc, you could try using a virtual machine (i.e. virtualbox running windows xp if you have xp disk, or even windows 7). Ive done this before on the mac (xp virtual machine) and it works. This way you can install the correct drivers on a fresh install of windows, without messing with the host OS.
Otherwise, best bet is to uninstall any drivers in your current windows, and install divers from google link i posted earlier.

just outta curiosity, when you plug the phone in (in bootloader mode) change dir to the one with fastboot.exe in and type (in command prompt):
fastboot devices
what output do you get?

I think I have something similar to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/twrp-os-installed-connect-to-pc-t2538794
as in i'm stuffed. :crying:
As in "no devices detected" ...what is the output? Pfffft I tried!

Just to check I am doing it correctly, I launch cmd in windows, change the directory to the location where fastboot is and type "fastboot devices". The result of this is it just gives the directory name again waiting for another command.
I hope I'm not coming across as ungrateful, I assure you this is not the case.

[Help] No Recovery, Boot loop, and not recognized by Odin

Seems I've hit the jackpot, my phone's a potato. I had just installed king of nougat v9 and it worked fine until I rebooted into recovery by holding the power button and selecting recovery. At first it was in a boot loop and wouldn't open recovery or get recognized by odin, I read somewhere here to disconnect the battery so I opened the back cover and disconnected it which apparently ****ed the phone a step further now it's dead unless it's connected to a power source and after disconnecting it stays on samsung logo/download mode for a bit then dies.
On my old rom it was working fine except for the fact that I couldn't connect the phone to pc as storage, and it couldn't recognize usb devices I plugged in using the adapter. I took the phone to a repair shop and they said they replaced the micro usb assembly and it still didn't show up on odin, then a few days later they said it's a problem with the power IC and they replaced that then the guy said it worked once on odin then stopped again.
Idk what to do lol, phone's bricked or should I try a different repair shop incase these were idiots.
note: it says device descriptor request failed when connected to pc
Have you tried to reboot to the bootloader by holding down the power button, home button and volume down when your phone is at the android logo?

Then it means you must install Samsung drivers, so that the computer would recognize your phone. Try downloading smart switch or kies and that should also install the drivers.
or try different ver. of odin

tried both of the above
Try clean install Samsung Drivers and other version of Odin. It should be (have to be) show in Odin after all of these.

"device descriptor request failed when connected to pc" sounds like a windows problem not android. You can check in the "computer management" device manager to see if the phone is recognized. I am going to assume not.
Try this link for possible solutions. https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledg...ice-descriptor-request-failed-for-windows-10/
