Possible 13/14.3.2.3.2 root - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" General

Notice: Towelroot works!
Added to the toolkit.
It is possible 13/14.3.2.2 can be rooted. Talk between a few devs confirm this.
id suggest keeping your kindle in offline mode for the next couple of months. perhaps until the xda developers conference? the exploits were shown to amazon's team, so they will patch it before it is released. hence the keep it offline

he has it working and will have it. he likes telling companies their bugs so they can patch it and make a more secure device once its patched he releases root. should be about 90 days or so, but once its patched i believe he plans on releasing the root then so there wont be any need to let people know as it will be posted. its just a matter of letting them know to not accept updates (which you can only do by never connecting). so people who sit offline are fine enough, just sucks for anyone who wont. i thought about posting "If anyone was serious about wanting root they would keep their device off the internet until the next root was found".

As you can tell, if you can bide without a net connection, it's worth the possible wait. Just keep your device disconnected from the net. Give it some time. If you do connect, be vigilant of it updating. Do not leave it connect to the internet unintended or on standby.
Update:
I highly suggest if you are going to wait, don't mess around with filtering connections. Before I was almost sure I blocked all out and inbound connections (with android firewall(a config front for iptables)) from Amazon but people were updated.

wow thanks man
also,if the new root comes out wouldn't it be wise to use rom manager instead of safestrap? That way I think the other ROM would be always turned off and you wouldn't need to have it on airplane mode all the time.
I'm interested weather that would fix the problem?

Haven't seen anybody test it when we had root. It's a sure thing to block ota updates, but until we get root, that's when we'll see. Wait to get root, block the updates then make a backup of the (ota blocked) stock rom and use that for future rom needs.

Wow..excellent news!!!

When released root?
When released root? 14.3.2.2

I hope the new root program will be come a little faster , The amazon ROM is terrible .

Awesome, can't wait.

Just to clarify I'm not releasing it, a (unnamed) person is.
I however, will be testing it once released and possibly add it to my root tool if all goes well.

Btw, has anyone heard from the vroot people? Are they working on something? More then likely not.

Hehe lol. Is this serious ?

As for this root, I find it hard to believe that a random person has found a exploit, and is going to utilize it to get everyone root. But I am going to wait patiently, just like I do with everything, and I will continue trying to work on my own in airplane mode.

Itchy fingers..
My 8.9 is a week old and I'm dying to get at it. Will be waiting for the brains out there to make it possible. Meanwhile I'll keep it offline and be checking this forum 3x's a day!!!!

I'm just spreading the word what was pm to me. I'm not looking for fame. I just want this bad boy cracked, rooted, and everything in between. But if people decide to leave thanks, that's their doing. I'm just trying to help keep talk active.
To further clarify, I received news/quotes that 13/14.3.2.2 may be rootable and that someone found it. But the person seems to be waiting to inform Amazon, then decide to release it. All I'm really saying is if you want to wait for the possible root access, now is the time to wait. If you're blocking ota, just wait around. If your not blocking updates, you should keep your device disconnected and wait.
Please see the word possible and not mistake it for probable. Patience is the best thing for now.
But regardless, please inform others.
iMJets this isn't towards you, I'm just addressing the question

I was the person who notified faz that there might be a root released soon.
I was PMed information from a verified XDA developer who provided me information about a /possible/ root getting released for this update in the near future.
The person who PMd me and the person who provided them with the information want to remain anonymous for their own reasons.
I am not a recognized developer or a person of interest in the development community. Which is why I provided the information I had to Faz.
What you do with this information is up to you.
I personally believe in the spirit of Open Source and think that information like this should be shared, I did not think any of you would believe me if I said anything so I reached out to Faz.

+1 I have never seen anyone here on xda being such on idiot that after finding a root exploit (likely a lot of work), he makes sure that it is patched up in the latest version and realease it later. I think GPL should be modified to disallow usage of locked bootloaders.

Well the thing is next time I think it could be wise to ask the devs to maybe work on different ROMS, for example optimising the paranoid android ROM maybe? The thing is, that way the Amazon ROM would be off all the time, right?

I really want the S4 but won't pull the trigger until I can do all 3.
1) Ability to tether for free.
2) Google Wallet
3) Able to root without tripping counter ... And receive official updates..
Is this possible yet?
Thinking of maybe getting the note 2 if we don't get the boot loader unlocked...

It's already been released that the bootloader was unlocked but is not being released until the Verizon variant comes out for obvious reasons. It's a great phone rooted out of the box with AT&T crapware gone, so it's your choice: wait a few weeks for development or go ahead and get one that has dev support.
Btw: The number 2 is Verizon for waiting to release the S4 a MONTH after everyone else.

Here's the Q&A from the person who has already hacked the bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2259933
---------- Post added at 11:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:06 PM ----------
And on the 2st page of that thread:
"Because if he releases the exploit or details now, Verizon can use that information to fix their implementation. It's not guaranteed this approach will work on the Verizon device, but it's FAR less likely if he publishes info on the exploit now. Even this announcement could bode ill for the hopes of Verizon customers - you can guarantee it is going to trigger another round of security review at Samsung and Verizon.
As a result, you're not going to see any detail until then."
Got it. That makes sense..
And thanks for not ripping my ignorance..
I guess I can wait another 2 weeks before I upgrade. No rush until we know for sure we are good to go.

Then maybe you should wait until the unlocked bootloader is released and the S4 has custom recovery, at which time there will probably be a CWM installable zip file for the Google Wallet.

KitKat 4.4.4 Rollout

Looks like AT&T is not being the first to roll out the 4.4.4 update. I'm guessing it will be happening sooner than later.
Here is a list of the updates happening:
Android 4.4.4
HD voice Icon support
International Wi-Fi Calling support
Google Security Patches
Knox 2.0
Kids Mode
I got this from Samsung's website talking about Sprint:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?fm_seq=73981&faq_id=FAQ00057083
I also heard from rumors that they are planning to unlock our bootlooder. I wouldn't put to much weight in that though.
But, Knox 2.0? What is that?

Another thought is, since the new Note 4 is so close to the Note 3, as far as what we can do with it, I really don't see that much of a software update happening.
Think about it. Sammy's main goal is to make more $$ on the new hardware, so why invest more time andc $$ in an update?
Just a thought.

Supposedly they have to support us with updates and stuff for 18 months. The Note 3 has been out for almost a year, so we should still be getting 4.4.4 and L. I have a feeling they're going to skip 4.4.4 and go straight to L, which I will be avoiding at all costs.

AT&T/Samsung updates go in the direction of maximum corporate security, so unless you're the network admin for some company, probably not. (They want to turn your phone into the company's phone, so if you're not in the business of buying your employer a phone that they allow you minimal use of, Samsung is no longer the phone to buy.
Maybe if they lose enough business, they'll change their policy.

L= downfall of Android. Read up on it and you will see why. After the KitKat update fiasco earlier this year I've learned my lesson and plan to stay put on 4.4.2 until my Note 3 dies.
I'm thinking 4.4.4 sooner rather then later. I'm assuming several months before an "L" release.

This is what I'm going to go with. L is a long ways away for Samsung devices. Look how long 4.4.4 has been out and we still haven't seen it. I wish it was different and AT&T had speedy updates but sadly that's not the case.

I'm saying L= bad because I've read rumors about how Google will be incorporating Knox or something like it into the source code. It'll be locked down tighter than NC2 and may be the end of root and ROMs. Supposedly even the Nexus 5 guys had a hard time rooting the L developer preview.
I'll wait and see if the rumors about L are true before moving away from Android. There's no way I'd be caught dead with an iPhone and Windows phones don't appeal to me.
I'll see if I can get you some links after work.

Adding "Knox" to the search helped a bunch. Here's a pretty good article:

It looks as if Google may still try to lock the bootloader, just not through Knox.
Thanks!

AOSP Rom

Was able to get a ROM built and running based on LRX21V straight from source. Just trying to get a feel on how many people would want to run AOSP. There are some bugs present such as video recording causing the camera to stop working. I think there are binaries missing that Google didn't include in the binaries that are available. Same problem happened on the Nexus 5. Didn't test it much as I just purely wanted to see if it booted.
Also there is a lack of gapps available so I won't be rushing to get anything out. Let me know what y'all think and I'll try to tackle this to get some other options out for us.
Here is the test build for those that want to have a look. This is just a test build so bugs are to be expected. Video recording does not work. Haven't tested it completely as I need a fully working device this weekend. This is for those that have free time to just nit pick and find all bugs in this. Please report back after you are done and let me know what else you may have found that is broken or not working right.
Stock Google kernel (so if you flashed the kernel image to remove encryption your phone WILL be encrypted again)
Built off 5.0.0_r7 from AOSP
Flash ROM, flash gapps and flash SU that is linked below. This will allow root access on the stock kernel.
You can also optionally flash the custom boot image after flashing the ROM, gapps and SU by rebooting to bootloader and fastboot flash boot the custom encryption kernel. That is optional. Be sure to go back in to recovery after flashing the kernel to reflash the SU to make sure it was not overwritten.

No. Minor bug fixes for the particular device it was made for but that's it. I did notice on the N5 that there was a significant "miscellaneous" battery drain on r7. Might roll back to r3 if its present since r3 is the one for us (its also the same build for the N5).

wonder when well see some updated roms
it can take up to 3 weeks to get an update once google starts. within 3 weeks is what google promises.
Newest nexus device = last device to get the update it needs and has needed since it's botched release. Gj googs
Guess it's time to turn back on the webpage update add on for the factory image pages. I mostly just want to try a new modem.

People say this, but I don't really have any problems. Everything works. I just want to see if I can get some better reception in a few spots, but really it's very minor.

Yeah I really don't have to many issues either I was just being snide. I do think it burns too much battery while sitting idle with screen off though. I shouldn't be losing 5 to 10 percent battery overnight. Mind you my overnights are 6 to 7 hours usually.

Main issue I want fixed is the sound issues then all will be fine for me.
Everyone calm down, it's not in aosp yet
and all i want is just a stock deodex rom =/
so what is new besides the HD voice and device protection ?

Finally, someone with common sense (and you beat me to it).
ROM's won't appear until it's in AOSP and Dev's re-compile.
for those devices it goes out to, we might see the OTA available if someone captures and upload it to their favorite BB
And then this could lend credence to VZ's hitting stores with 5.1 a week from Thursday (But I still think those would be a 5.0 variant with a open and update to 5.1 myself ...)

Still think were waiting on an official change log from google. Here's some 5.1 changes that have been posted: http://www.androidpolice.com/tags/android-5-1-feature-spotlight/
Sent from my Nexus 6
I hope google fixed the increasing tone (or allowed to disable it)
Looks like factory images dropped for the N5 and N10, but nothing yet for Shamu
The 2012 Nexus 7 also got some love.

shamu takes more time for some reason, its usually later than the rest
It is being pushed to aosp now: https://android.googlesource.com/device/moto/shamu/+/lollipop-mr1-release

The system images are live for the nexus 4&5. But not the nexus 6 as per usual.
Why is the 6 slower to update? Is it done chronologically?

Blackberry native apps on play store

Thanks to Crackberry (http://crackberry.com/blackberry-priv-stock-apps-go-google-play-ahead-launch) I saw the stock apps for the Priv are on the Play Store. Here are the individual links as well:
Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blackberry.blackberrylauncher
Keyboard: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blackberry.keyboard
Camera: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blackberry.camera
DTEK: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blackberry.privacydashboard
Password Keeper: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blackberry.passwordkeeper
If anyone can download the apk's, I want to know how.

Yep no go on Chrome apk downloader or the web based downloaders. It might be able to be download from BB10 with the snap application once the apps are official shown in the playstore. Hopefully someone finds a way soon!
In for the waiting... Miss the keyboard so much having just come over from a Blackberry Z30.
Is there anyone planing to port these app to other android phone?

Anyone try to change ro.model to "Priv"?
---------- Post added at 11:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:41 PM ----------
Have tried ro.product.model=STV100-1 to 6, to no avail (of course I set ro.manufacture to blackberry). There must be something else, I mean the model is correct, based on all those leaked images. I accidentally know the guy in Vietnam that had that Venice prototype, will try ask him tomorrow to see if he could extract the apk (which will be difficult, as root is required)
If somebody knows a person that currently has a PRIV, you should be able to use their GsfID/model to pull down the APKs. Unless there is more security involved here, this worked in the past on my Android and BlackBerry 10 devices.
There are many more factors to get it fully working. Until the subscription to BlackBerry experience suite goes live, I doubt it will work

The stv100-6 i posted earlier is the real product model from the leaked device in vietnam. I have asked owner of it to try extracting apk but always getting error... guess blackberry is truly tough on security
Interesting, I'm still holding out hope though. I REALLY want these apps on my OP2. I just switched from a BB Passport.

Signed up here around the same time I joined CB... I think. When I got my OPO last Dec, I'd become a regular here. You still on BBM?
