Trying to install Echoe. E: Can't open. Installation aborted. - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm very new to all this palava so any help whatsoever is appreciated.
Thus far, I've followed this video on YouTube about rooting my phone and installing CWM (youtube.com/watch?v=hUghV16l9d8). I've downloaded the latest Echoe file for my Note 3 (N9005) and dragged it to my external SD card. However, when I boot into recovery mode and choose zip from external card then press on "N3_Echoev13" it just comes up with "Finding update package... Opening update package... E:Can't open /storage/extSdCard/N3_Echoev13_22April2014.zip (bad) Installation aborted."
I realise this is most likely a complete noob error and I should be able to sort it but I'm tired and I just thought some kind folk over on this board would be happy to help me out.
Thanks.

Bad download ? Is there a md5 number provided on the rom thread ? I'm sure it is. Did you check it ?

When u download echoe, there's a md5 hash number.
Download md5 checker, browse the zip file, and check whether the checker result is the same with the one provided at echoe download page.
Sent from somewhere under the sky, at the corner of this rounded earth.

Downloaded md5 checker on my phone and it comes up with "d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e" yet on the Echo download page below the two links the md5 is "6A2B349A8602C1E75D951145F152C7AA".
I've re downloaded the ROM this morning again to see if that altered the md5 but nothing. Any light to shed guys?

I don't think the md5 provided on the site is wrong (or I might be wrong). Did you check a few last thread posts, if someone else is having such issues ?
There's really nothing else to do but to download it till the md5 matches.
And next time, always check the md5. The roms are big in size, so they can easily get corrupted during downloading.
P.S. I can't belive im spoon feeding you with such information. Must be something I smoked yesterday. :sly:

[HOW TO] Samsung Galaxy S I9070 Advance ROOT for most firmwares!

Ok after a 2-3 weeks of pain and miserably, I have managed to compile a kernel which give us permanent root for Samsung Galaxy S Advance. There is a little problem with this method. Cause I am a total beginner in developing, my kernel has side affects. It makes phone reboots for no reason, I think there is some problem with drivers. Don't worry I have found a workaround. First you must flash my kernel to get root access, that just flash original kernel back, and the root access is still there, and the reboots are gone. Now you know why it is called ugly method . When I'll have time I will try to provide 100% working kernel.
FIRST THIS WAS MADE FOR PHONES WITH XXLD1 firmware (european) , but with help of testers now this method also works on ZSDL1, VJLD1 DXLD1, DDLD4, JPLD3, ZSLE4, XXLD2 and XXLE2 firmware, I have add kernels for this firmwares (Step 10, of rooting proces)! You are free to test it on other firmwares, just make sure you have original firmware ready if something goes wrong
SECOND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THIS WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!
Under normal circumstances it won't. If something goes wrong you can still flash original firmware with odin.
THIRD this can only be done in Windows.
Now the procedure
1. Download GT-I9070-root.rar, and extract it somewhere on you local disk.
2. From stuff you just extracted run program Odin3 v1.83.exe
3. Then open Settings in your phone, go to Aplications -> Development and check USB Debugging and Allow mock locations. Both needs to be Checked (Selected).
4. Turn off phone and turn it back on into Download mode, like this press Volume Down + Home button + Power button, wait untill some "strange" screen appers, put in usb cable and choose continue.
5. Now wait until Odin recognize your phone. It can take a while first time, if you have problems search for samsung drivers on the internet,
6. Under PIT file browse for GT-I9070_EUR_XX_8G_20111220_KL6.pit, you have extracted this file before.
7. Under PDA choos rootkernel.tar.md5.
8. Then check what options are checked (Selected), be sure to UNCHECK (remove selction) Re-Partition, Flash Lock, Phone EFS Clear, Phone Bootloader Update! Only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time should be checked (Selected)
9. When this is set just press Start and wait for phone to reboot.
10. Now repeat steps from 4 to 9, with one exception at step 7 now choose xxld1.tar.md5. For other firmwares you can download appropriate kernels here:
ZSLD1.tar.md5 (removed)
VJLD1.tar.md5. (removed
DXLD1.tar.md5 (removed)
DDLD4.tar.md5
JPLD3.tar.md5
ZSLE4.tar.md5[
XXLD2.tar.md5
XXLE2.tar.md5
BULE2.tar.md5
DDLI1.tar.md5
DXLD2.tar.md5
PXXLD2.tar.md5
UBLD1.tar.md5
PXXLE1.tar.md5
DDLI1.tar.md5
I am very sorry to inform you but since i only have free account on mediafire, some of my files where removed by their administrators due to too many downloads . If some body could gather all the files and provide alternative link (but not dropbox, cause they have limited downloads as well, as far as I know).
11. Download and install Superuser or SuperSU aplication from market and enjoy the rooted phone! And you must also download Busybox to install busyboxbinary. [Recommended way]
Or you can use Superoneclick, this tools push the Superuser aplication to /system/app and it installs busybox binary. Just search this tools on XDA.
Voila your phone should now be rooted. I will do my best to improve this method.
This wouldn't happened without a help of this people (THANK YOU GUYS!):

kilsmap

interloop

lownoise
Your information were priceless!!
I hope I didn't miss someone, if I did, I apologize, I will add you, just tell me !
FINAL WARNING: when rooting phone you are voiding warranty, so think twice if you are ready for this .
For restoring your phone to the original firmware, go HERE to download your country or region specific firmware. Register and search for I9070 under firmware. Than you can flash this firmware with Odin just like the kernel, you choose PIT file (the same file that is used for kernel flashing) and you put original firmware under PDA section, re-partition must NOT be selected!
There are a reports from user BaBaCaNA and three other users, that this method works on the Brazilian phone with kernel VJLD1. I would love to here from other user, if they are willing to test this on other firmwares, which are not european. And report here if they have succeed.
Ok I have add additional kernels ZSLD1, VJLD1, DXLD1, DDLD4, JPLD3, ZSLE4, BULE2 and DDLI1. Check Step 10 in the first post.
Thanks to gpy0000000, RSDamasceno, jheiimarkova, sky881, activatedgeek, hmorcos, titus1, c128, shut_down for sending me original kernels, I've just repacked them into flashable tar.

Ok cause I don't follow this thread often, here is one more time the procedure for rooting any firmware. You can find the correct firmware on sammobile.com. Download it, and extract it twice to get the kernel.bin.md5. Than download an install Cygwin, if you are using windows, to get shell commands. If you have linux you don't need it. Than copy kernel.bin.md5 in you cygwin home folder (you've set this folder during installation). Now run Cygwin and enter thos commands:
Code:
tar cvf theNameOfKernel.tar kernel.bin.md5
md5sum -t theNameOfKernel.tar >> theNameOfKernel.tar
mv theNameOfKernel.tar theNameOfKernel.tar.md5
You use this repacked kernel in second phase of flashing, when you repeat the steps. That's it!
If you don't understand this procedure, please use google or some other search engine to get the answers you need. If you still don't know what you are doing, ask in the thread, I am sure someone will answer your question.
Please don't PM me for every little thing!
My kernel is VJLD1, I would like to know if I have a way to make a backup of it, then do this procedure I re-flash it in place.
It has to do this?
if you have downloaded the stock kernel, share it with us... then we will try to port the root to the kernel...

Hello,
I try your tutorial but I get some strange error with Odin.
He say me that the MD5 HASH is invalid and the kernel2.tar.md5 too.
I will try to redownload your files.
Thats strange indeed,I hope I didn't messed up files cause I had like 5 testing kernels:/. Please try again if it won't work I will reupload correct kernel but not until monday. I am very sorry for that.
EDIT: Can anyone alse confirm if MD5Hash is invalid?

I am back ! I have re-upload freshly signed kernels. Please read the instructions again and try them, then let me know how it went. For all of you who doest have XXLD1 version of kernel, you can download your version of firmware on sammobile.com, and unpack it (you have to do it twice to get to internal files). Than you can send me those files trough link, or via email (for this you should write me a PM), and I will do you signd kernel so that you could also root your phone. But I will requier from you to test it before I release it to others.
Have a nice day

[Q] skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found

Just got a problem when im flashing a new Kernel
Can anyone tell me what should i do now?:crying:
can't post outside links
Nothing, an MD5 check is only so the PC can cross-reference the download to see if it has downloaded correctly.
For example, a download may have an MD5 of - 1122334455AA
If your download gets corrupted, it may have - 1122334455AB
Therefor the MD5 is wrong and the download is corrupt.
It will not affect your flash, it should just skip the check and carry on.
If the flash has gone wrong, perhaps the download is corrupt.

[Q] Trouble finding MJ7 tar file

I can't seem to find the MJ7 stock file (with a link that isn't broken rather) to flash via ODIN anywhere. I feel like I've figuratively scoured the earth in search haha.
Any fingers pointed in the right direction would be awesome. Preferably with a working link.

Thanks man, I found this one but couldn't get it to download directly to my phone (as I don't have internet at the house). Now that I'm at college it's working.
I have tried this download several times and keep getting a md5 hash value is invalid in Odin. Is there another link somewhere or am I doing something wrong?
I'm not even rooting this thing until I know I've got a way to get it back to stock in case I need to.

Normally what I do is delete the .MD5 extention on the file leaving just the .TAR extention. ODIN will skip the MD5 verification at that point and it'll flash like a charm. (This is just my experience with that particular problem)

All it did was check the MD5? That's it? that's not a lot to work with here...
Go to settings and turn off MD5 Check, and try again if not, the download may be broken, re-download it.
if THAT doesn't fix it, come back to this thread and reply to my comment with a LOG.

Another update pull failed verification and resulted in another footer error. If installed without any modification it works, but after rooting and pulling the update.zip, trying to install it results in an error. It could be a security measure introduced to the update.zip to prevent installing on a phone without the matching signature assigned during the initial download.
Whenever i tried to follow the link it asked me for a security key ????

I read on another nougat beta thread that if you get a footer error then you should decrypt your SD and try agian

I did not have my SD Card encrypted. I have also noticed some discrepancies between the update.zip I am extracting and the working VZW update.zip. Things like: the boot.img is 0kb, and there are missing CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, or MANIFEST.MF files under META-INF folder.
I have tried extracting it in several different ways\environments and get problems with every pull.
Other variants are working on the same thing with the same issues. I have the last pull I made, but I can't continue working on this as heavily since I'm using my daily driver. I'll try again as new info\solutions come up.
Seems like getting root (with current methods) may be disturbing the file structure. There may be something else at play here since all the pulls still come with a boot.img that is 0kb, and are missing CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, or MANIFEST.MF files under META-INF folder.
Here is the link to the WIP update.zip. I'm going to stop working on this until someone can suggest a better way to root or pull the file without it coming out corrupt\incomplete. Good luck!

Thanks @jrkruse for finding this method!
1. reboot to download mode (power + volume up +home) and make sure phone says Official under system and binary.
2. If it does not then you must odin the PH1 firmware, use the pit file and the full csc not the home csc file
3. go through setup
4. enable developer options
5. turn OEM unlock off
6. enable USB debugging
7. place Update.zip on Ext sd card in folder named fota
8. power off phone
9. reboot to download mode make sure both system and binary are official.
10. reboot to recovery (Power + volume down + home)
11. choose apply Update.zip from SD card
12. find Update.zip in the fota folder you created on your Ext sdcard
13. click yes to apply
After this it should update to the Android 7.0 beta and hopefully will be able to download future beta OTAs.
You will not lose anything as this is an OTA
You do not want to be rooted. You must be stock for this to work!
There is no gear VR available on the beta.
Troubleshooting:
"E: footer is wrong" followed by "E: signature verification failed" : Decrypt SD Card and try again.

This is for the SM-G930P regular S7 (not edge). I have pulled it via filemanager app after full root, and via adb on linux and windows after eng kernel root and full root. All of them yielded an apropriately sized update.zip, but it seems to get corrupted during the rooting or extraction process.
Also, there may be a reason behind our update.zip not having a boot.img. We may not need a new boot.img after updating to PJ2, so it isnt packaged in our update. If someone can repackage the update.zip so it passes verification we may have more luck.
