[Q] i9505 Wi-fi / Dialler not working - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my phone back from the repair shop and I seem to have messed up its ability to be a phone! Managed to restore a nandroid (seems it was still rooted) but the wifi / calls weren't working ...
The CSC code revealed with so I tried CSC changer from the shop and inadvertently made things worse ... I've ended up with a German CSC and can't get it back to BTU! (CSC changer goes through the motions but can't change it back )
So I thought I'd try to get back to the main problem, this longer 'CSC' number that gets displayed with *#1234# - it shows both my AP and CP as:
I9505XXUBMEA
But the 'CSC' here is:
I9505OXABMEA
I'm hoping if I can change that I'll be closer to get this phone working? Can anyone help? (NB it's on Android 4.2.2. right now)
Thanks!

Damn, well, still pulling out my hair here. So far I've tried installing the same pre-rooted ROM that got me set up last time I rooted:
I9505XXUBMEA-PRE-ROOTED-ODEX-FULL.tar.md5
No wifi...
Then as I seemed to remember similar problems last time, the following files:
I9505XXUBMEA-MODEM.tar.md5 (via 'PHONE')
I9505XXUBMEA-WiFi-FIX.tar.md5 (via 'PHONE')
All go fine over ODIN, but I still have no WI-FI and the dialler goes blank if I try and make or receive calls! ><
Any help would be much appreciated..

Have you tried flashing the original stock firmware?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Not sure which one to use! Does it matter? Want to stay on 4.2.2 and keep life simple (seems 4.3+ complicates things) .. but I can't seem to find a 4.2.2 UK ROM (That's BTU, right?)
Can anyone point me in the direction of a stock ROM that I can flash to reset things?

Glad you got help in the other thread.

For sure all was ok before you restored ur backup. Dont restore more backups atm:
1. Make a backup of ur Internal Memory
2. Make a factory reset (Settings > Accounts > Back Up and Reset > Factory Data Reset > Reset Device > Delete All/Erase Everything.)
3. Conect it to Kies 3
4. Kies 3 will give u the info you need for know ur correct CSC. This will be btw parenthesis close CSC.
5. Knowing ur CSC, take a look for this firmware in Sammobile.com
6. Download and flash it with ODIN (Dont flash a "Black EDITION" if ur phone isnt it)
7. Dial *#1234# again and take a look if u have the same what Sammobile was telling you. If not, flash again the firmware. (Example in pic attached)
8. Attach more problems here if u still having them :highfive:

Thanks so much Joku. I've got to step 4 but it doesn't give me a lot of info. Offers firmware upgrade then says :
Current firmware: PDA:MEA / PHONE:MEA / CSC: MEA (DBT)
No idea what this means or how to find relevant firmware in step 5 so any advice would be much appreciated!
Cheers

Yeah. You was right. It was very difficult to find coz is an old firmware. I give u the link of what i found: HERE
*EDIT: Continuing step 6:
- Download and unzip this firmware
- It will give ya 2 files. You can delete the .dll
- Put ur phone in DOWNLOAD MODE and conect it to ur pc
- Open ODIN and flash the firmware (like the example in pic attached)
- Wait the process till end and enjoy ur phone again like new

Many thanks for the link Joku! Downloading now, I'll let you know how it goes..

Damn, not having any luck with this file - I've tried downloading it twice now on different PC's but it fails to write - drops out after aboot.mbn then 'complete(write) operation failed'...

So update... found I couldn't flash ANYTHING after the failed stock ROM flash, so I got a .PIT file and flashed that, now the phone boots again at least! Now downloading the Spanish stock ROM suggested by Malyrbu - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52635376&postcount=12236
One question - do these stock ROM files contain a kernel too? Might getting the right stock kernel help fix things?
Thanks!

1. You dont need flash any Spanish stock ROM. Flash only the one I was telling you. I downloaded the DBT firmware and works perfect for me. OTHER LINK -> HERE
2. The firmware i told ya (DBT) contain STOCK Kernel too.

Weird, tried it a few times on different PC's now. Will try redownloading from your new link, thanks!

*sigh* well I still couldn't get that stock ROM to flash... re-downloaded from your new link and ran it again, fails in the same spot! Not sure what's going on... might try that Spanish 4.2.2.? If it would fix my wifi problem I could then go ahead and add a custom ROM, right? :crying:

Well, Spanish ROM borks too! >< ... looks the same as the other one you sent. If it's any help, I can see in tiny red text on the S4 screen -
SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused : 3, Binary : 1

Ah f*ck, I think I may have borked phone stock flashing by trying to install a higher firmware ROM when I first got the phone back... not sure but when I google the SW REV CHECK FAIL that seems to be the problem people have.
Dunno what's going on... when I get the phone to boot after flashing PIT again it says Android Version 4.2.2 in the 'About Device'... but I still can't get WIFI to work ><

If it was in warranty I'd take it back about now, sadly it's an ebay'd phone!

OK I think I may have sussed out why it's not working. Really sorry for the confusion but I think I screwed things up right at the start, and then didn't remember ... one of those dumb things you do playing with your phone late at night. The first ROM I tried to flash, right after getting it back from repair, was a 4.4.2! .... I had no idea what a big deal that was ><
SO ... thankyou for bearing with me this long! Feel like such an idiot right now. I guess then that some fundamental thing has gotten changed by the ROM I tried then (it was this one ). DOH!
As I understand it, there's no going back now and I'll have to stick with 4.4.2 - please correct me if I'm wrong!

Updating to 2.3.4 firmware - if you don't want to root

HI
This is Just for People who want to flash 2.3.4 firmware or any other firmware but don't want to root their phones like me.
Again All Posts are within XDA and Due Thanks to the OP's and DEVS
I'll Try to be as informative and clear as possible ( Its more for the newbies )
First off all it has been stated this 2.3.4 is leaked and not official
So lets Begin
1. Install latest Kies of samsung > connect your phone and make sure all drivers are Installed and your phones is recognised in Kies > Backup if you wanna
2. Close Kies ( make sure its not running in the system tray) > Install ODIN
Get Odin v1.85 from here: http://www.multiupload.com/1RTGSE061G
Just extract Odin folder and keep the odin3.ini file in it.
How to USE ODIN in SECOND POST
3. Download your 2.3.4 Firmware ( or any other firmware you wish to flash)
a) Download Link Stock XXKG1 : http://www.multiupload.com/2EMBQMYF4V (via ficeto) or If you can find other links
and Extract It > you should have four files:
b) CODE_I9100XXKG1_CL349526_REV02_user_low_ship (goes into PDA section)
GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKG1 (Goes into CSC section)
MODEM_I9100XXKG1_REV_02_CL1034110 (Goes into Phone section)
u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit (not required)
4. Open ODIN and put the files in the respective TABS > Do not change (tick or untick any other boxes) read the second post by intratech

Flashing Firmware with Odin
1. Just download the firmware version you want from above and extract the .tar file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file that you extracted in step 1
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron
Should look like this screenshot
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5705/odinm.jpg
If the package has 3 files it should look like this:
http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8290/odinxm.jpg
Regardless of firmware version it's still the same methodology
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow
7. Click start to flash
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.
It will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended
Will I loose all my data and programs?
let me be the first to thank you
i am coming from iphone4 so all these terms and apps are new to me, and while i can use the search function a lot of times it takes several pages of read-thru to piece together what you have put in 1 concise post
btw i love the SG2 and android platform, steve jobs can toss my salad
If you flash any 2.3.3 you don't seem to loose any data... but yeah updating to 2.3.4 you do loose data and programs.
I didn't have many programs, but market restored most of them from me, and good to backup first.
Also kies gives me that I can't update firmware maybe cause its the latest one and it don't recognise the firmware.
Please be aware this is a leaked version, so if you want you could wait for the official one, I so far had no problems whatsoever
Just one noob question, SII being my first android phone, i assume that in order not to lose warranty you still have to use USB jig to reset rom counter if something bad happens, right ?

I guess it only applies if you root your phone (I could be wrong).

If you are using stock kernel there is no counting in custom binary,so no problem with your warranty. You can check your counter if you go to download mode.By the way usb jig is always usefull.

Is it possible to use another CSC from older stock releases together with this? ie, flashing this, and then after that flashing the multi CSC "MultiCSC OXXKF1" for instance? The reason im asking is that ppl have reported this rom to not include the nordic keyboard's for swype etc, and thats sort of a gamebreaker for me.

tanx so much!!!..i`m downloading...keep it up bro
There is one thing I don't understand how to do. Before I flash my firmware with the new 2.3.4 version, I would like to take a copy of my existing firmware from my phone first and save it to my PC. So that I have the option of putting my phone back to how it was if for some reason I want to revert my phone. I understand that I would need to buy a jig to reset the update counter.
So is it possible to save my existing firmware to my PC first?
I did try looking at the download page but there were so many different countries and carrier versions that I found it confusing. I am stock KF3 uk unbranded O2 still running 2.3.3
Thanks
Thank you tfn. Great instructions, I am loving the new update.

ROMs unflashable, i9505 S4 XUBMF8

Hi there all,
I've been encountering a weird issue with the i9505 S4 XUBMF8. For whatever reason, I am currently unable to flash custom ROMs on it. The phone is KNOX-free and I have previously flashed custom ROMs on it before. I am able to root via CF Auto Root, install Triangle Away, but whenever a file is copied onto the phone's storage it never completes successfully (for example Broodplank's ROM will always be 10-15mb short). Even downloading the custom ROM directly onto the phone via stock Browser results on a Status 7 error.
Changing from CWM Recovery to Team Win doesn't help either, nor changing usb ports / computers and cables. (I've used both Generic and Samsung-branded ones.)
This is a phone which has previously managed to run custom ROMs, flashes stock Samsung ROMs and Radios via Download Mode fine, and installs "unknown" .apks fine as well.
Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
Summary: Phone currently running stock XUBMF8 (Firmware it came out of the box with), roots fine and installs custom Recoveries fine, flashes fine via Download mode. Just refuses to copy files properly (despite multiple formats / factory resets / flash stock firmware) and refuses to flash custom ROMs via custom Recoveries.

XUBMF8 is android 4.2.2 for branded phones:
- Spain (yoigo) or Poland (Play)
* Solution could be flash one stock rom for unbranded phone if is your case. Anyway if u conect ur phone to Kies and tell me ur CSC I can tell u what stock firmware is good for your unbranded phone

Hi there,
Apparently that doesn't work. I've tried resetting with stock, custom recoveries and through TouchWiz itself. It still gets the Status 7 error. Toggling "Verification Check" results in a failure, even though the MD5 checks out.
I really am at wits' end here...

[Q] Help finding a specific stock ROM - i9505

Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster
I've been experimenting with a spare i9505 that I have, flashing roms etc (it was having serious wifi issues so I was trying to fix it)
However something's gone wrong and I now have the 'Firmware upgrade experienced an issue' screen, and Knox Warranty is 0x1. I don't really care about it as it's a spare, but I'd like to flash a ROM to it so that it at least works.
I'm not exactly a power user when it comes to this stuff, more an 'enthusiastic amateur'. I followed instructions in a similar thread to flash TWRP and use that to Advanced Wipe before flashing a new ROM, which I've done, but the threads I've found feature loads of ROMs and I don't know which one to use. I found a couple that I tried to use, but Odin is failing every time and SW Rev Check Fail pops up on the screen, which I believe (from more lurking!) means I'm trying to use the wrong firmware.
Was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction!
Just to recap the phone status:
- S4 i9505
- UK based (came from Vodafone if that matters?)
- Firmware update encountered an issue
- Knox Warranty Void 0x1
- Previously running 4.2.2
Thanks guys
Knox warranty void cannot be recoverd till now

I'm not worried about the warranty, I've read up on it and I know that's a lost cause. I just want the phone to work really as it's currently displaying 'Firmware update encountered an issue' on boot. I only mention the 0x1 thing as from my research I understand that it limits you in terms of what ROMs you can install, meaning I would need a particular one to get the phone working again.
Thanks!
Then install stock firmware via odin first

... That's kinda the point of my post. I know what I need to do, I just don't know which file to use.
For example, this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824 has a bunch of stock firmware files, but I don't know which one I would need to download, for my specific circumstance.
What firmware u tried to install? If u tried to install android 4.3 or android 4.4.2 maybe ur bootloader is updated and u cant flash android 4.2.2. Give us more info :fingers-crossed:

I was worried that might be the case.
OK so I've tried two md5 files so far:
I9505XXUBMGA_I9505OXXBMG3_I9505XXUBMGA_HOME.tar.md5
I9505XXUFNB8_I9505BTUFNB3_I9505XXUFNB8_HOME.tar.md5
To PROPERLY go back and re-cap from beginning...
- Phone was stock, wi-fi didn't work (worked for a bit, then cut off and wouldn't come back on)
- Ran CyanogenMod Installer to update and hopefully fix the issue
- Install was successful but didn't fix wi-fi issues
- Used Odin to flash the 2nd md5 listed above, went back to stock but wi-fi still didn't work
- Tried to flash the 1st md5 listed above, didn't work and must have errored at some point as now I get that 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue' message.
- Looked up the issue in a thread on here, followed instructions to flash TWRP, boot into Recovery > Wipe > Advanced wiping everything bar last two options, and then 'install your stock recovery firmware'
Only issue I have now, I don't know which file that is As I say the last two I tried (above) give me the SW Rev error, so they're clearly incorrect.
I don't care about warranty, and I don't care about root either really... just want the phone to work again, even on stock!
Well. Step by step:
- You will have to WIPE all
- If the phone is branded to Vodafone is one thing, if not is other.
- I let u the correct firmware for ur phone with Vodafone: HERE or HERE
- If ur phone is unbranded the correct firmware is: HERE
- Download it and flash it through ODIN
- If u have problems with ODIN, paste it here and good luck :highfive:
Awesome! Thanks man, the phone came from Vodafone initially but I don't think it's branded (no logos on the phone, no Vodafone logo on boot)
I'm downloading both just to make sure. Will let you know results ASAP! Thanks again :good:

Which firmware can I use to update with Odin?

I just updated through Kies to try and solve my audio problem, and it updated my phone to I9505XXUGNG8, it didn't fix the sound issue. I want to completely install a different firmware, which one do I use?

Dial *#1234# and tell me what appears. Kies 3 don't udpate good the devices sometimes. You can fix the problem with the sound maybe in some minutes, only reflashing the correct firmware through ODIN :highfive:

Could installing a custom rom/firmware fix the sound problem do you think?

1. Take a look your CSC.
2. Go to Sammobile.com and download it.
3. Wipe all (remember backup your data before)
4. Flash and reflash this firmware in your device through ODIN (2 times).
5. It will have a hardware issue if you still without sound.

I showed you the CSC above, in the image I attached. So what shall I search for on the sammobile site?

1. Make a data backup of your device and wipe all (This step is very important)
2. Download and flash this firmware through ODIN and you will recover the sound :fingers-crossed:
3. Flash that firmware again (2nd time) if you don't recover the sound.
4. Factory reset your phone.
5. Tell me if you won the battle :highfive:
6. I read the other post yours. I think will be a hardware problem maybe. You did very good all steps. Im sorry for that

This is the firmware I have already flashed onto my phone, I already downloaded it from sammobile. This is why you see the CSC code, because I already flash this! I will try flashing it again a few more times though.

I'm still convinced that it is software problem, as the music player says "unsupported file type" even for mp3, and volume ticker has a big delay when I try to change volume. And unlocking the lock screen is very slow. But, when I choose 'mute' for the sound, unlocking is fine and the phone seems fast again. So it seems that whenever the phone tried to play a sound, it can't, and freezes because it doesn't know what to do....
Also, making a call doesn't work. So I'm thinking it's a modem problem. I will try the BTU firmware....
Does anyone advise doing a full wipe with CWM, so formatting \system and everything, then flashing the stock rom back on?? I'm sure there is a problem with the system files. But I don't know how dangerous doing a format \system is if I flash a new firmware
Does anyone know which custom firmware I can flash if I'm currently on I9505XXUGNG8 stock? I'd appreciate the help, to save opening a new thread.
I don't care if it's a custom rom, or a pre rooted stock, the original stock firmwares aren't fixing my phone at all in regards to the no sound/can't phone/unresponsive camera
Maybe have a look here,

Install app called "phone Info" from google store, it will take you to correct firmware as per your country origin.

That shouldn't have failed, CSC mismatch is not a cause of flash failure. Can you provide more details?
Hm...
Hi guys,
I had an issue similar to this and have no recollection what I did to fix it. I don't even think that I fixed it, ever. Meaning - no stock ROM install for me for months and months now.
I just downloaded some AOSP/TW ROM and flashed. Are you able to get to the custom recovery? Please confirm - I've read somewhere that you can flash stock from custom recovery. I did try a few "PIT" files, with no help.
P.S. I remembered a bit now. I was finally able to flash it through Odin, but entered boot loop. So, no go!
My eyes are on this thread.
Good luck,
Sonny B.

If it was a pass message on odin it shouldve worked go into recovery mode and do a factory reset from there it should work it happened with me too but remember dont leave the phone switched on as its stuck in boot loop cause when the powers dead ur phone wont charge any more it would keep thinking as if its not bieng charged if thats what u did i recommend making a factory cable search it on google and charge from that so the device knows its bieng charged once the wipe data is done reset and hopefully it would work if not i think u should flash another stock rom again i hope i helped
