Slow LTE speeds coming from note 3 - Xperia Z2 General

I've been using my Z2 for about 3 days now and I'm having Hella slow speeds. Coming from T-Mobile note 3 I've been suffering on my LTE speeds. I used to get 20-30 MBPS and now down to 2-3mbps I'm positive I got the correct apn settings and just talked to att customer service to make sure they got correct provisions on my plan.
Here's my speed test and apn settings. Anything I should change on my APN? Thanks in advance

While I admit that those are incredibly slow, T-Mobile is known to have the fastest LTE speeds out of the other carriers. However, I'm not familiar with at&t's speed so I wouldn't be able to tell you if those speeds are normal or not.

Few things:
1. AT&T LTE can be very slow at times. I'm currently getting 1.5 mbps at home (it's much better in other places). I also tried an AT&T HOX and got the same speed. So that tells it's just AT&T's network issue in my area. You could try to compare yours to an AT&T phone in your area.
2. You said you switched from Tmobile to AT&T. Did you set up your ATT account with an ATT LTE phone? In the past, some users had to set up their a/c with AT&T phones IMEI initially to get proper LTE speed.

I compared it with my friends S4 on att and he's getting 20 MBPS. He also has full bar compared to mine only has 2. I know att cheats on bars with their rom.
Sorry what I meant was I came from a unlocked Note 3 T-Mobile device. And was getting 20-30 MBPS. Is there something wrong with my APN?

I see. The only difference I can see is I have APN type as 'not set' - not sure if it's gonna make any difference. Why don't you just copy the APN from your friend's phone?

Don't judge by what I'm saying, but I believe the radio on the Z2 still not optimized properly, because I do have Nexus 5 and I will get more signal on that compare to Z2 and most of time Nexus is on LTE and Z2 some time you can see it's on H+ ( I do have T-Mobile )

I just did a speed test at a different location - 30 Mbps DL & 11.5 Mbps UL on AT&T. I have also attached my APN.

Cool - my Z2 shows the same APN info. My last speedtest was ~ 12 up / 10 down, but that's to be expected where I live some days. So the phone will always show '4G' instead of 'LTE'?

Hi,
I'm on T-Mo and my phone shows always 4G but with a really bad reception (1-2 bars) DL averages 10MB and UP around 4MB, I've been testing the signals with Open Signal and LTE Discovery apps and found out that there is just a "fair" coverage where I live and the places I go most, I guess I will get better speeds if I'm on a big city.
However if I disable the 4G from the quick settings, I will get full bars of H+ but no faster speeds that I would get when it locks to LTE.
Open Signal has a built in speed test and it tells you what connection you have (H+, 4G LTE), check it out.

APN setting
you can go to Internet setting then download it for APN settingView attachment 2745857

Everything works fine now. What I did was put my Sim on my friends AT&T Samsung S4 logged in to my att account and waited until the system recognized I was using a S4 then pooped my Sim backed to my Z2 rebooted the phone and for some weird reason my LTE speeds are back the UT was before
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

I don't understand why you get so slow speeds on 4G. I live in Romania where they just started a year or so ago to deploy 4G all around the country. The city I live in is a small mountain resort and I get about 2 bars of 4G reception. On the test I did yesterday I got 70 Mb/s down and 30 Mb/s up, much better than my home connection. On a Nexus 5 that I played with in a carrier shop I got 150 Mb/s down and 30 Mb/s up (it was in a bigger city with better reception).

HSPA+.....

Just got a text from T-Mobile saying HSPA+ is active in my city....Memphis, TN. Havent noticed in difference. Maybe I should do a speed test later.
maybe you need an actual HSPA+ phone.
and maybe they had activated it before they announced it
hspa+ is still faster than the 3g you prob had, so now you might get up to 7.2mbps.. so you could notice a difference even though we dont have hspa enable devices... this is the first time that we can recieve more data than the phone can handle...

yeah i thought about that too. I have an upgrade so I am gonna get the G2 when it comes out. But i still wanna do some test with normal 3g versus HSPA+
Not sure if this is related but when i go to settings and about and signals its showing that im connected to umts (3g) but when i tether to my vibrant it goes to hspda (3.5g).
3g falling in the range of less than 7.2 around 3-4mbps and 3.5g around 5-7. Ive done a speed test.
speedtest.net /result /927922215.png
Im not sure if thats accurate info on the connection type. I also know speedtest sites are never accurate on speeds. Someone let me know.
All I care about is that hsdpa gets me down speeds rivaling my cable connection and up speeds beating my cable connection. 5.5/1
6? Don't need more.
Unless I am at home where tmo never gives me much signal love

I live in an HSPA+ city, and I haven't logged above 1.35mbps on the old speed test (usually far less -- around .5). Is that just the way the cookie crumbles (signal strength, etc.) or is that freakishly slow? (Going by the numbers cited in this thread, it sure sounds slow...)

Looks like the HSPA+ network to me. You didn't notice anything because you we're already on it. They only announce it after it has a good amount of coverage over the existing HSPA/3G network. It actually starts to come online far before they announce it. I noticed HSPA+ 2 months before they said it was live (outside of the strip where it was turned on during CES or CTIA)

reason i asked, mine has shown the "H" icon where the 3G icon usually is, but only "blue moon" events and maybe for a few hours duration when it does (according to Tmo's map, i'm in a "moderate" coverage area, and in a shallow valley in that area)
on a couple of those occasions i pulled 5.4 - 5.6 Mbps speedtests where i normally pull 1.1 - 1.4Mbps

Interesting. I havent noticed mine doing that. But i cant say i have paid much attention to it either tho.

Why do review sites keep posting low download speeds with HSPA+?

I don't get it I keep seeing them post speeds of 200-300KBps with HSPA+........ running speedtest on my GS2 I'm getting around 1.5MBps and yes I mean Byte and not bit. HSPA+ in theory can go to 21mbps so there is still room to grow to at least 2MBps with HSPA+. Then with DCHSPA+ with the Nexus 4 on paper you can reach speeds of 4-5MBps and my friend who lives in another country has a DCHSPA+ modem and he is speedtested it for me and got 3.8MBps.
I see all these LTE 4G speeds and they're getting from 21mbps - 32mbps in most cases which is like 2.5MBps -4MBps in speed.
I mean I'm getting not far off that right now with Three in the UK on my GS2 and I haven't even tried a DCHSPA device yet, I'm not sure if three support it.
I don't get where these sites are getting 200-300KBps speeds from?
On T-Mobile with the galaxy s2 I got speeds around 15Mbps down and about 3-4Mbps upload on their HSPA+42. Nexus 4 should get the same. Although T-Mobile has very limited HSPA+ where I am living now so I won't be able to test in that same area for a while.. Those reviews are garbage, just saying

Yeh so you're getting like 1.8MBps which tbh is more than enough for a mobile but also close to these poor LTE speeds which are really just DCHSPA+ speeds.

It's also not much slower than LTE right now......
I don't see how all these sites seem to be getting such low speeds.
Its just depends on your luck on how close the celltower is to you. At my work its over 20Mbps with an SII, at home its more around 5Mbps.
I have seen lots of t-mobile and AT&T cell sites. Really depends on if they have upgraded to a true fiber, like using the local Comcast or other high speed provider. Or if they are still using the multiple t1 lines to power it.
A lot of sites with multiple cell providers, usually AT&T will have copper into site, while the others have a fiber connection. Just depends. =/ Even if you see fiber into the cell site, it can just mean they are using it for distance run, coming from t1 station down the road.
Some of these sites have some really old stuff in them. Kinda hit or miss on the ones that have a really good internet connection to them.
My input. Just from seeing the cell sites.
And if you are right under a cell site, you never connect to that one...to much signal. It connects you to one further away

They must be using AT&T because their HSPA+ network can be pretty slow sometimes, compared to T-Mobile that is. In my area AT&T gets about 2-4Mbps down and maybe 1Mbps up.
I had my father's galaxy s2 (42mbps) and my galaxy nexus (21mbps) right next to each other dieting a speed test.
Galaxy s2 always got double the speed. He was getting 14mbps and I couldn't break 7mbps
I know radios and software and everything else come into play, but the potential for more is there

Unless you're on att or coming from another carrier to tmo and not sure what you'll get why would you be worried about this. If you're already on tmo you should get the same or better speeds, correct?

And I'm pretty sure there will be different radios we can install. I'll probably install the radio I have on my sgs2.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I was wondering how the speeds actually were since I'll be coming from Verizon.
With tmo in south fla you will get around 8-23 down and 1-5 upload.
What about speeds for AT&T in southern california?
Here is a wild guess; (most) reviewers are in an area which was affected by Sandy.
That's just B.S. I live close to DC area and I got upto 21 MBPS on my HTC ONE S. LTE doesn't necessarily mean its faster than HSPA+ .T-Mo's HSPA+ is awesome but probably ignorant people can't tell the difference.
You can check data speeds for your carrier at rootmetrics. In my area, T-Mobile gets at best 1 mb download. Verizon has LTE here which gets 20 - 30 mbps. Stupid fast. That being said, I'm probably going with AT&T via Straight Talk.

This is a very bad idea.
1) The flash will most likely fail.
2) If it did somehow flash your baseband will be screwed.
These are theoretical speeds, anyway. I have never had more than 7 or 8 Mbps down on my phone. And it just depends on cellphone traffic through that particular tower, I think. I have done speed tests countless times when I barely crack 1 Mbps on "HSPA+".
This is what I am getting with t-mobile, and i am happy lol

That's still pretty quick. Speed varies on the time of day. If too many people are using the network, it'll get clogged and users will see their speeds lowered. If you're far from the cell tower/antenna your speed will be lower. Having a new sim card simply doesn't affect network speeds.
When I'm at home I don't even get half the speed you get! Because there's this tall apartment building next to my house!

I had t-mobile's prepaid before I switched to a contract last year. And speeds are the same whether or not it's on a contract or not. So yeah, like I said perhaps their network is filled with people using it so you will see lower speeds. Also, during peak hours lowers the speed you normally get as well. Orrrr T-Mobile is trolling you. Hmmmm....

lol I am not complaining, I am trying to figure out whats the deal. I am sure the difference I have is not because of congestion. At my home speed differs only 1-3mbs during busy hours compare to lets say 2am. It has been steady 20-25mbs. I literally have been running speedtest every day during last month and a half to see if they gonna throttle me or if I use too much data and just testing out speeds

The Testing application (*#*#4636#*#*) will show HSPAP, the phone status in the settings application should show HSPA+:15 or HSPAP:15. HSPAP is HSPA+. The status won't show HSPA+ 42, because the number indicates connection type and not speed.

I've been getting blazing speeds lately. Even in places where my old verizon had no service. It's a given that i need to be outside to get 30+ mbps but i'm happy getting 15 mbps inside a bunch of concrete. The uploads have been pretty good as well.
Definitely slower for me. I used to get 20 down, 15 up, now I get 10 down .12 up on HSPA+. When I go into town and I get LTE though, I get around 30 down 12 up

Is Verizon LTE this slow?

I just moved to Verizon from AT&T. I got MUCH faster data speeds on AT&T, somewhere in the 11 or 12 Mbps region.
Is this just the normal download speed of LTE data on Verizon or do I need to change a setting or something?

honestly it really just depends on the area as far as carrier speed is concerned. i'm on verizon...in the chicago area and frequently benchmark at 19mbps down and 6mbps up...depends on the time of day too, how far away you are from the tower, and how crowded that tower is. my wife has at&t ... sometimes her phone is faster, sometimes mine is...same with signal.

How do you take it when I say I get 300-400 kbps?
Inside my home has a lot of interference around here and not bad speed at 3 LTE wireless strength bar.

I have unlimited data. Fast as lighting here in Los Angeles.
I have a feeling im being throttled. Unlimited data abuser 2mbps down. .8mbps up. Luckily at home I use my wifi.
Verizon lte sucks in Cincinnati now. Used to be 20 down was the worst you would see now flooded with iPhones it sucks and lucky if I get 10 now

The OnePlus One Speed Test Result Thread

Seen this thread on other phone forums but haven't seen it on this forum just yet, so it'd be nice to see what speeds you guys are getting on LTE/WiFi. I know that there are a lot of complaints in regards to weak cellular data or weak wifi. Some of us don't have those problems, and some of us do but thats not the point of this thread.
Anywho, lets show off of our speed test results using Speed Test https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest
Please only provide results on your OnePlus One and not for other phones.
Also include your location and carrier.
I'll get started,
T-Mobile USA. Brooklyn, NY
Also attached is my WiFi speed on my home internet connection (110 down, 40 up is what is advertised on a Wireless-N router)
I usually do get higher speeds but not in that area. My peak speeds were 50 down on LTE.

Here's my speed test result. On the Telstra network in Ringwood, Melbourne, Australia, and using LTE.

Surprised no one is posting here although the Antutu thread is pretty popular and in the past. Threads like this seem to reach a lot of posts, 222 views and only 2 posts
Wow nice, Australian LTE looks nice. The highest I've ever gotten with T-Mobile LTE was 52.17/17.56 on my N5 in this one particular area of Brooklyn.
My 4G on the oneplus has 2 bars then drops to none. Best speed I can get 6Mbps
No speed test here, but my One is much faster than my Galaxy S3 over Wifi. It also never drops wifi connection while my S3 would drop connection when I walked around the house or at work.
Can't post screenshots for some reason but I get 48 Mbps. T-Mobile Michigan

Provide one a speedtest is quite easy to do. Download the app and run it. I just feel that theres a lot of criticism on the Wifi/Radio/Cell Service that some of us don't have that problem so its nice to have some positivity towards this subject.
You guys can go to the Speedtest App -> Results -> Share button and then get the link and paste that here too.
Not bad, I'll have to try a better service area tomorrow. This in on Att in Lithonia GA.
TWC internet.
And straight talk (att) 50% signal strength

We get much higher speeds than that, I had pretty bad signal strength at the time. My mate recently got 80mb down.

On Wi-Fi (advertised as 35/35): http://i.imgur.com/1CBL40l.jpg
On T-Mobile edge (Dover, DE): http://i.imgur.com/04weShL.jpg
Both speeds are about the same as I got on my Nexus 5.

Can't even start to imagine what LTE-A in real-day use and not theoretical speeds is capable of getting. http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/20/sk-telecom-lte-a-300-mbps/ insane.
From my wife's OPO. We are in the 20mhz Seattle market on T-Mobile. Beats my GN2 by 15mbps.

Maybe I'm slow but I thought the Opo didn't support the LTE Band 20? Or is that some other band that everyone is talking about that T-Mobile is unveiling?

The speed test I pictured was on LTE band 4. There was 20mHz of bandwidth for that specific location. I can see the data connection info on my Note 2 from service mode. Quite useful for a guy interested in data connection performance.

I am getting horrible speeds all the time and I'm on att network. Is there some special settings I need to input? Am I missing something? I mean, I love the offline but I'm actually really frustrated over the specs on getting. I cant even watch YouTube videos without it stopping all the time. It does an lte signal to. Any thoughts?
