Special Presidents Cabinet Edition Droid Maxx - Droid Ultra General

Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=291140801485&alt=web
Very cool. I discovered this yesterday. Includes a new Incipio ghost 100. Seller claims to have used phone less than one week.
I think it's cool that in all actuality there are 5 versions of the droid maxx not including the ultra. The standard 32 gb, the employee edition, the two new current 16gb revisions and now this!
It may very well be running 4.2.2. Haven't confirmed it yet though.
Sent from my unlocked consumer edition Motorola Droid Maxx xt1080m.

Cool must be some top official of Verizon wireless

I have the same phone purchased last month.
This does not work on non-Verizon network. VZ appears to have done something extra to prevent it from running on other carriers.
It came with 4.4 out of the box.

I fail to see any value in this. So it belonged to "President's Cabinet" (if that is even authentic) - now what?

Agreed. The only difference is a tiny etching in the back case. Zero additional value.

^^^^
May be call recorder will be by default ON and recorded conversations are routed to ex-owner... Thats surely a special phone..

Motorola delays Moto X Cyber Monday deal after site crash

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...ys-moto-x-cyber-monday-deal-after-site-crash/
"Starting at 12 pm EST/9 am PST this Wednesday, we will relaunch the $349 promotion."
Good news!
So this gives me a bit to consider between:
1) Getting a Moto X DE on Wednesday
2) Ordering a Nexus 5
3) Sticking with my HTC One XL until July -> contract renewal time
Wondering if some Moto X owners can weigh in. The thing that is attracting me to this phone the most is the battery life. My HOX battery (I feel) is going bad. Many symptoms which point to this, listing them all would probably be too OT. Bottom line is that with no "misbehaving apps" or anything - I'm seeing maybe 2 hours of screen time before my phone dies, on a good day. So trying to figure out if I want to put up with this until July and see what's available then or jumping on this deal.
I see there isn't much development going on for this device compared to the Nexus 5. But honestly most of my flashing ROMs/kernels have been vain attempts to improve battery life on my previous and current phone. Is there a point to flashing custom ROMs to this phone? From what I've read the greater majority of people actually prefer the stock Motorola ROM with their custom apps over CM, AOSP, etc. Going back to the Nexus 5, which is suppose to always get the latest and greatest from Google, the Moto X is already on 4.4 as well, any thoughts as to if this trend will continue from Motorola?
I've also read of some issues with the camera - can anyone weigh in here on the camera quality? While I'm not one of those people who snap a million photos a day - I still like to have something reliable in my pocket to take a good photo when the situation arises.
I hope this isn't too rambling and terribly OT. I would appreciate any input.
Two cents: I'm fairly certain that the promotion on Wednesday is only for Motomaker devices, and not Dev Editions. Those sold out already, I believe.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
They've stated on their twitter account that the dev editions have sold out and will not be available on the subsequent days of the deal. You could order a t-mobile variant which is the same as the developer edition with the exception of voiding the warranty when unlocking the boot loader.
I managed to get a developer edition in the second batch yesterday, but I'm still debating on canceling and trying for a customized t-mobile variant. I currently have an AT&T version that I'm going to sell, but the Moto X is easily the best android phone I've used. The combination of size, battery life and additional features is just hard to beat. My previous two phones where the HTC One and SIII and I would personally take the Moto over either of them and the S4.

Bummer. Thanks for the heads up re: DE. If I buy the Motomaker version - I can still root, but not unlock bootloader, is that correct? Honestly from what I've been reading - rooting will probably be sufficient.

If you buy the t-mobile version you can still unlock the boot loader, they just state that it will void the warranty. I don't find myself needing to do much to the Moto X, I just don't like being at the mercy of AT&T and their notoriously slow updates and bloatware which is why I'm switching. The t-mobile and gsm dev edition are the same device internally.
The sale yesterday was the biggest cluster eff I've ever seen for a phone. I had a dev edition in my cart multiple times yesterday and was never able to check out. All were sold out but today mysteriously some gsm phones in stock for normal price. No luck on them honoring the price. Total b.s.. I said I would never own a Moto phone after the defy abd cliq and was almost there...but I can honestly say after the bs yesterday with the site crashing at nearly the start Motorola needs to step up for the developers. I am at a loss as to why if the t mobile version is almost the same why they wouldn't sell a few more dev phones on Wed and Mon.

They may be the same but you're unable to load the dev image on the tmobile device. That and warranty are the deal breaker.

Just ordered My Moto X Dev Edition

Joining the club... Hopefully this is the one.
Selling my HTC one because I cannot stand the button on the top and the damn lack of cases and such.
So...since I just dropped 400 bucks on this badboy, can you guys share your experience to calm my wallet nerves?
My dev edition Moto x is on the truck for delivery. Selling my Droid maxx (4.4 unrooted).
Gonna miss the battery life, would have got a dev edition maxx if they were in stock. But I lived with a galaxy nexus for 2 years so should be good with the X.
The droid is the same hardware with a bigger screen (same resolution, higher PPI on the moto x = sharper images without having to stretch to reach the corners), so I know I'm gonna love the experience, with the added bonus of being able to root no matter what update they send out.
Stock rom and xposed is the sweet spot on these devices!
I grabbed the Dev edition during that $100 off/1 hour promo ... Had the Note 3 at the time and thought that the x would be a 14 day experiment. A week later I listed my N3 on Swappa! Loving the x!!

I ditched my Note 3 for the GSM DE. I'm not regretting it. The Moto X has proven to me that thoughtful engineering (both hardware and software) beats anything that is the result of competition in the "spec wars".

Of course 'within reason'. If you physically fry your phone cause you rooted and did such: they're not going to warranty the physical damage. However if it's software like in the simple case where it bootloops over a single value recursive value then they're not going to be as adamant in denying you if you own the DE phone. Unlike the case with returns where you're forwarded a code: you'll simply send in the phone and wait for repairs like typical cases with phone repairs.

wont taxes vary by location? Example, PA has 6% sales taxes, where DE has 0%.
Web site says $379.99 * Taxes and shipping charges may apply. At one time (back when I got my X Dev Ed) moto did have free shipping on orders above a certain amount, and it was posted on their web site. Its not posted now, so I'm not sure if they still have it.
I got rid of my Note 3 for the GSM DE as well. I never regret that decision.

Asurion Replacing 1st gen moto x with new 2014

so both me and my brother have gotten new 2014 Moto X's from asurion as replacements for our OG ones. Asurion says the first gen moto x has been discontinued. You can also get your custom one replaced if you have them transfer you to the in store replacement/corporate services department. these guys are the only ones that can order brand new custom moto x's from motorola. you heard right, not a refurb, a new phone made to order. they use the moto maker site.
i was able to grab a new leather version and my brother got a wood version. $100 deductible and a brand new upgrade

the new gen 2 moto x. the bigger better one.
How did you go about making this happen? My 2013 is starting to crop up some issues, so if I can get a replacement (upgrade), I'd love to.
well if you have asurion as your insurance then it's easy. fist you gotta "lose" or "break" your phone. then call asurion on the phone, start a claim and they should inform you that your device is no longer made and that you will be getting a gen 2 moto x in black or white. if you had a custom moto x from last year, then there is an extra step you need to do to get a custom one. request to speak to the in store replacement/ corporate services department. this step is a pain because the people on the front line have little knowledge, but just get them to transfer you to them and they are much more helpful.
I predict a high insurance fraud activity level coming. ?
definitely not encouraging fraud. i've never used my insurance in 6 years.

Your wording here is contradictory.
I'm not a fan of doing things the wrong way. I hope that people don't commit insurance fraud over this. The main takeaway that people should get from your posts is that, should their custom Moto X need replacement via insurance, the customer should ask to be redirected to a specific line to get a Moto Maker replacement as opposed to just a black or white model.
Good thing I'm not wasting money on insurance, I'd be mad if they sent me a 2014 Moto X.

oh this is great, i just cracked my screen 2 days ago at work. I just got off the phone with them and they said i was getting the 2nd Gen Moto X. I was very surprised when the lady told me that. She asked for the colors my current Moto x(2013) was and she just replicated it to the new one. I don't mind a newer model, just hope the larger size doesn't turn me away.

I believe so. I got transferred once because it was the motomaker X and not the black or white one. The told me that they discontinued the OG and were giving me the 2 gen instead.
Only thing that i didn't like is that the Asurion people gave me a order # , but motorola cannot connect it to my gmail account. so to get the tracking info, I have to do a chat or call them. Asurion told me it would be delivered Nov. 2nd and motorola is telling me 2-4 weeks...
Edit: okay so i was jsut on the phone with motorola to see if i could get a tracking # just because. they were not allowed to provide me with any information because Asurion is the one who purchases the phone and send it to you. The said they had my Name for the order and my address correct and that the phone would be sent to ME, but they could not provide me with anything other than that. No time frame other than "Before 4 weeks" and he couldnt tell em anything else becasue Asurion is the billing address/name just and FYI

What are you talking about? I ordered a Cloud White 64gb Nexus 6 from Motorola's site last week and received it yesterday. How would Motorola not warrant them if they sold them literally days ago.

Let's nor forget that US Cellular(CW & MB) and T-Mobile (MB) sell the 64gb versions as well. I doubt moto would stop production of it. They also released a 64gb moto X a day ago so they understand the demand for 64gb models. Maybe moto just won't sell the 64gb and will let google and the carriers sell it or maybe they are TOS.
I was going to post about this.. I have a defective 64gb MB right now and when i called today the "rep" said he does not know when they will have stock again.. So i'm not sure, but i do know i'm sending this POS back for a full refund. Motorola support is a joke, they are very uninformed and are merely reading from a script. I also noticed there was no option for the 64gb but it was listed in the specs section further down the page so i'm not sure. They seriously failed with this launch.
So I was just able to snag another 64gb so hopefully this one is good. If not I'm going back to my starTAC and saying screw the nexus 6.

My Theory on why Verizon hasn't released N6

So after doing some research about the whole advanced calling feature I came to a theory that might calm the heat towards them.
Advanced calling 1.0 isn't just something they have to do to the network. VoLTE is already possible in any area Verizon covers with LTE. Unlike other service providers who have been doing this for a while, Verizon is fresh at it. And I believe that the way they enable this function on the Sim is purely software. Not built into the Sim. That's why there are so little phones out there that have it enabled. Because Verizon waits for a software update from the phones manufacturer and implements it into the new software.
So, my theory is that, because the Nexus will be the first phone that Verizon will be selling with lollipop, they will have to work with Google to implement that software into the 5.1 release that should be coming out in February which is why they are planning to release the phone in that time.
Another reason this has to go that way is because its also one of the very few phones that Verizon will be selling that has only one radio and therefore will not have data during a phone call which is one of their biggest selling points and the original reason why I choose them over anyone else 5 years ago.
I think that Verizon just wants this phone to have happy customers and not have a terrible experience like they did with the GNex
Thoughts?
Highly doubt it buddy. The tl;dr is if you want a N6 on VZ you'll probably have to go pony up $650-$699 and get it off GPS or Motorola. Verizon has always been about control, delivering to the user, the experience that they see fit for you to have. That's why they lock all their phones down and instill it with bloatware garbage. Before the FCC mandate I'm pretty sure Verizon blocked all sorts of compatible devices that would work on the network. The only reason why we can even use the N6 on Verizon is because the FCC is forcing them to. I'm sure you read up on the whole 700mhz C block spectrum debacle.
One of two things will probably happen in regards to Verizon selling the Nexus 6. If they are offering it later it will probably come after the newest Droid and Note 4 has had their runs. I highly doubt it has anything to with advanced called as that is just an application and you can make VOLTE calls without it. VOLTE is very limited at this time and will only occur when you call another person with the listed devices. True there could be some propriety garbage that they need to install on the unit to use VOLTE and if that's the case we're back to the Galaxy "Nexus" era. At this point do you really want to get a Nexus that has the VZW tramp stamp? Do you really want to rely on Verizon for certain updates?
As for the second scenario which I feel is more likely to occur. I feel that Verizon will just pass the Nexus 6 as only a small % of people know what it is and want it. Majority of users don't know the differences between devices and manufacturer skins etc. Now if its the contract price you want, nothing else can be said or done about that. But you can always go to Motorola and get financing on the device. Good luck.
They already sell the moto x which is on lollipop so there goes that theory. Next?

Oh, well then your debunking has been debunked. The droid turbo has it but its still on 4.4.4 so I rest my case. They still have to find a way to natively implement it into lollipop.

You don't even know what your own argument is. You stated they were holding off releasing it until it had VoLTE/advanced calling. So you're saying they picked just this one device to delay for this reason but were fine releasing a bunch of others without the feature? Yeah that makes total sense.

The Moto X still doesn't have advanced calling or voice/data at same time. No idea what you're talking about.

Name one phone that has been released in the past six months that doesn't have the ac 1.0 either on the way or already on there?
My opinion is it has to do with the data issues people on vz have been having with the nexus6. My guess is they ran into problems, and are working on a resolution before officially releasing it.

Note 4 is scheduled to get it soon but all the major android devices not on lollipop have it.

Well I already said the Moto X like 4 times but here's the full list from Verizon that supports advanced calling - Note Edge, Droid Turbo, G3, and iPhone 6. I know there are other older devices (G2, Maxx, etc) that also support it. Link directly from VZ below.

Keep in mind this is only a theory. I'm not saying I know the answer. I just came up with it and it made sense to me. To each their own though.

My theory is that they are trying to figure out how to implement it natively into lollipop. Since the moto x is running lollipop then this clearly falls under the same page as the nexus

5 years ago you could not do voice/data at same time on Verizon...on most phones you still couldnt 3 years ago...that was a strong selling point and advertised feature that ATT advertised back then...

You're right about that. The thing that I'm saying is that new phones such as the moto x and the nexus 6 both only have one radio as opposed to the older phones since the iPhone 4 released almost 4 years ago which can in fact use data and phone at the same time only because of the fact that there are 2 radios in the CDMA version

While I do see where you're coming from with this, I would like to point out that there are still a lot of known bugs and it makes sense that they would come out with a major update to fix all of those bugs, nexus device wide. Whether its 5.1 or 5.0.3 is not the point. Its the fact that there is an update and it should come soon because googles new flagship device has that buggy software on it and it will hurt profits if not fixed
Ive actually talked to some people who told me that the only reason they didn't get the n6 was because they heard there were a lot of bugs.

Long list.
My theory is that they want to lock it down, and although they technically could, the user base of this particular model have more of an inclination to tinker than other customers who want a Samsung or HTC.
Maybe Google layath down the hammer and said you can't prevent people from locking boot loader.
In the end I just don't think Verizon cares to own a Nexus
Pretty sure it's to milk every last penny from the Turbo. Also to get as many people to buy other phones out of practical impatience as they can so they have less unlocked bootloaders running on their network. Cause we all know how much they just absolutely LOVE unlocked bootloaders.
