S4 I9505 no 3G but only G - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello all
bought the second hand phone with this network issue.
after trying some roms, wifi fixes, network fixes, root settings, finally stopped on pyrana rom but during all those, couldnt find out what could be the reason for the mobile network.
and also realized that the imei number is not same as behind, could that be the reason? any chance to change that? or any tips to get 3G?
using tele2 in Holland, used my sim in another phone, 3G working
also used another sim from Tmobile in this phone, again only G no 3G.
thanks from now
link for the screenshot (coudlnt put the full link bcoz of being new here)

Goto Settings, tap the Connections tab, goto More Networks, then tap on Mobile Networks. What does your Network Mode say?
Are you on GSM only or are you on either LTE/WCDMA/GSN (Auto connect) or WCDMA/GSM (Auto connect)?
If you're on WCDMA, it could possibly be an access point problem, or maybe a modem issue?

thanks for trying to help man. im on lte/wcdma/gsm auto...
just flashed to omega v28 4.4.2 but again no luck... still only G

Have you checked your APN? Is it set up correctly?
Where it says More Networks, tap on Access Point Names and check yours is set up correctly.
You should be able to find the APN details online through google

yep.. did that auto, manual, copying from another phone, didnt work. and the imei is still diffrent than the one behind the phone. still thinking that could cause the problem. :/

i wish i could do that just as easy as you say

Looking on Google, it seems some people have had a bit of luck with this issue after doing a Manual Roam.
That involves going into Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks then tap Network Operators. Wait for it to scan and then choose another network to try and connect too. It'll fail. Then go back and do it again, but this time select your network operator and it'll connect.
It's worth a try?

Did you say that the IMEI number shown in Android is different than the one printed behind the battery?
If so, that says to me that the phone was once reported stolen at one point, blacklisted and someone has changed the IMEI number to get it off the blacklist and back on the network.

Well, the IMEI number behind the battery will be the phones proper IMEI number.
I think the only way you'll find out if it's been reported stolen is to contact your network and give them the IMEI on the phone (behind the battery) and ask them. Or you could pay for an online check. I'm sure theres a few companies that offer online checks. Keep in mind if the original IMEI is blacklisted, you won't be able to get it removed. Only the person who reported it stolen, and can provide proof it was theirs when it was reported can get it removed.
I'm not too sure how you'd go about changing it back to it's original IMEI, but if the original IMEI has been blacklisted, then as soon as you do change it back, you won't be able to use your phone at all. All data/voice services will stop working.

i checked the imei writing in the phone, and here is the result
imei.info/phonedatabase/2500-sony-ericsson-k530/ (copy paste pls. i cant send the link because im new here)
i actualy have a sony ericson which i didnt know
maybe the provider is seeing my phone as sony ericson, and that phone doesnt support 3G... hmmm now i have to find a way to change the imei.
if its reported, then i come back to this

That's your problem right there. Your phone has likely been reported stolen in the past and someone has changed the IMEI to allow it back on the network.
It's possible that the phone who's IMEI has been taken doesn't support 3G so network isn't providing it to your phone.

turn on gps on lost hero

hey guys,
I lost my Hero yesterday.
Is there any way to turn on the GPS from any computer, and see where it is?
lj
I think there are plenty of possibilities to track your phone over the internet, but you needed to install these apps on your phone before you lost it.
I'm not sure but I think you'll have to find your phone without GPS-features ...
Good luck!
iirc only apps that are installed in the /system partition can activate the gps. not sure if that is correct though... nevertheless podb's statement is correct, anything that hasn't been installed before losing your phone won't help now.
It's a little too late for this but... WaveSecure could have done the trick..
I'm loking for something where I can find it by IMEI number.
its imposible dude.

Well... the IMEI number is the phones ID on the network. The many cell towers stores this number whenever your phone boots up and stays connected. The different operators can easily check this information. But YOU won't ever get hold of it... unless you're the police doing a crime investigation.
I'm thinking about asking them to do something.
I'll see.

the IMEI number is the phone's id, that is correct. the network doesn't care too much for the phone, it cares for the subscriber, which is identified by the IMSI. from what i know no operator will look for your phone based on IMEI and the fact that you lost it. if your country's operators use the EIR feature they can block the phone out of their networks, but that is about as far as it will go.

[Q] No service after trying LTE

Hi
I was playing around with my phone and tried the old hack through the settings screen, *#*#4636#*#*.
Switched it to LTE and set up a new APN for Rogers LTE.
It Didn't work. After more reading I discovered this wouldn't work for me anyway. I have Android 4.4.2 and I don't think my SIM is LTE enabled.
I rebooted thinking it would just go back to the original settings.
It seems to have gone back but now I have No signal at all.
I am with Rogers. I tried going back to the original APN settings and selecting Rogers.
The phone is finding the correct networks for my area.
I tried the Reset to default in the APN settings. This sets the APNs to Rogers LTE and chatr, not the original Rogers APN that I started with.
The phone is rooted but running stock Android 4.4.2.
The baseband seems correct.
What have I done and how do I fix it?
Have I done something to the Rogers SIM?
Thanks

Had to assume that because I've never seen someone try LTE without doing so.
What you can try is find the stock radio, which might still be the same as you are using, then flash it. Maybe that will reset things back to normal.

No luck.
I tried flashing the stock radio then flashed everything using efrant's instructions. Still no go.
The thing I find strange is when I select Reset to default in the APN settings it sets the APN to Rogers LTE not the default 3G setting.
Delete the Rogers LTE apn and make a new one with this info:
Name: Rogers
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC: http ://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
APN Type: mms
You can also try this one:
APN: internet.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
Go to phone info *#*#4636#*#*, and change network type to WCDMA Preferred. Reboot, and see if that does it.
I've done that several times.
Still won't connect.
The error is; No service. Selected network (ROGERS) unavailable.
When I search networks Telus, Bell and Rogers all show up.
I've tried selecting Rogers and selecting automatically. When I select automatically it selects Rogers but comes back with the same error.

That was already suggested.
I have tried wiping everything out and flashing a complete stock 4.4.2.
I've also tried another Rogers SIM.
This is getting ridiculous.
All I did was change a setting from "WCDMA Preferred" to "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)" and back again and that killed a phone?

I find this very strange. I use the secret menu on two phones but have never heard of this happening. My N4 will only lose signal for a few moments before switching to gsm autoprl, after switching from LTE/GSM.

Mystery solved.
I don't know why it happened at exactly the time when I tried LTE but...
The phone has been reported lost or stolen.
I bought it over two weeks ago. I checked the IMEI on the Government web site, that is supposed to protect us from this kind of thing, and it came back clean. I checked again last night and it's blacklisted.
I would say the girl that I bought it from got it on a $0 contract. Sold it then reported it lost or stolen. She's still on the hook for the contract but, so what, she'll never really have to pay it. Either that or it takes 2-3 weeks for a phone to show up on the blacklist.
Either way, the Government initiative to blacklist stolen or lost phones sounded like a good idea but in reality it's not protecting anyone.
So, now I have a small tablet and learned a lesson. Don't buy used cell phones and if you do, don't trust the protectyourdata.ca web site to protect you.
The site boasts;
"Purchasing a pre-owned device?
Check the IMEI number here to ensure the device has not been reported lost or stolen in Canada."
Thanks for trying to help folks. I did learn more about Android through this.

I've seen about 2 or 3 threads on Android Central with the same symptoms that seemed to never get resolved.
I suspect they had the same problem and either didn't know how to check or were to embarrassed to say.
I was upset but I want others to be able to find this answer.
Through buying and selling different phones working my way up to the Nexus 4 I'm really only $110 out of pocket.
A 16GB Android media player with WiFi must be worth $110.
So, is there a way to eliminate the wireless radio and leave WiFi?
I guess I should start another thread on that.

Airplane mode also turns of the WiFi.
I just pulled the SIM, deleted all APNs, turned off Mobile Data and left WiFi on.
The warning that I had no data connection is gone and I still have the ability to make a 911 call if necessary.
Unlocked, rooted and flashed a USB-OTG enabled kernel. This is great fun...

[Q]

I have a n9005 XEO that i bought on ebay. it was working fine for about 5 months now until a few days ago when it just stopped getting cellular signal altogether. no calls, no data, nothing. it seemed to corespond to me using towlroot, installing supersu, and a couple of xposed add-ons, but everything seemed to work fine for a few days before i had this problem. I tried making sure that airplane mode was off, data was enabled, that i had the apn settings correct for my provider (at&t, USA), I even went so far as to restore to factory settings, and then flash another rom (the stock s5 port i found here in the dev forum). still not getting cell signal at all). I went so far as to go to the local at&t store and ask them to place my sim in a known good phone to make sure it has service (and it does and is provisioned properly and i'm paid up). my note sees the sim (i.e. no "sim not found" messages), just plain no service as if i were in a dead zone. the phone hasn't been mishandled, i've tried pulling the battery and putting it back in... I can't think of anything i'm missing here besides trying to flash the modem (which i can't seem to find the stock modem (n9005xxuenc2) or firmware on a site that doesn't take 7 hours to download it from.
can anybody help? (either with a mirror that doesn't suck for the latest stock firmware or latest stock modem, or offer any other suggestions?)

even if it were blacklisted, it should still allow me to place 911 calls and the like. it should work like a deactivated phone. it's not. just in case i was wrong, I also verified the imei on swappa and they confirm that it is indeed NOT blacklisted.
also i'm not sure why it would be blacklisted to begin with. it was working one day then i went to use it the next and bam, not working. i don't get it.

Sounds like your IMEI got tampered or stolen and got blacklisted. Usually this would happen, especially when buying phones online.

But I've used several reputable services to check my IMEI number and they all say that my imei is in good standing... I don't get it. besides, what causes an imei to be blacklisted to begin with? - I wasn't trying to circumvent any security features, had no malware, no reason at all for an accounts admin to want to get me off the network. my account is in good standing, and my sim still works in an old iphone that i've got (i'm using that until i can sort out my regular phone situation).

The fact that someone had the phone with them can easily get it stolen. It's a plain 15 digit number, easily forgeable just by looking at the box, and since it has no authentication, people can just get your phone blacklisted by placing it on a defunct phone that hacks the network (or something).
well tonight i took it apart to see if there was a problem with the antenna cables, connections to the various peripheral devices and such and alas, no effect... still does exactly the same thing after field stripping the unit and resenting everything. if it's hardware, it's nothing i can tell...
I was also able to generate a .pit file, grab the latest build for my csc from sammobile (takes forever) and did a nand erase in odin with the pit and the downloaded stock rom... everything went great, but it got me to exactly the same place i'm at... working phone, no service. I have no money, but i think i'm going to just end up ebaying it and buying an s3 until i can save up enough for a note 4 or nexus 6... for now, i'm on a crappy old iphone 4 with a broken lock button, but that's another thread.
well it's been about a month and a half since i've had a decent phone (my 3 phones ago iphone 4 really doesn't cut it). after giving it some thought, I think i might buy a broken-screen sm-n900t, and swap it's mainboard into my phone. hardware-wise i believe they are exactly the same, it should be easily rooted with unlocked baseband,it would give me LTE on at&t, and it should be easily unlocked so i can use it on at&t... it should also only cost me 1/8 the cost of a good condition used n900t. ($60 or so on ebay i hope?).
still pretty sad that such a nice phone quit on me so quickly

Why don't you swap the N9005's screen onto the N900T and keep it like that? The N900T if I can recall, has the most bands available worldwide and if you're already replacing it, just enjoy the vast amount of customizations and potential the N900T has.
Did you pursue all avenue including Samsung service/repair centre or even Samsung line enquiry to confirm it's not blacklisted?

that's basically the plan, except the motherboard lives on the display side of things, so it would be swapping in a new motherboard (n900t). we both describe the same plan of action.

Will that affect knox count ?
Going to try reflashing the rom through kies first

No, you can flash all the stock ROMs via ODIN / KIES you like and it'll stay 0x0
Tripping KNOX is only by flashing something custom that's not signed by Samsung
Ok so tried trough kies and this is what i got still no voice or txt but i have internet
What happens if you go to Settings > Connections > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators
Let it search for operators, if it finds the one it's meant to be on, tell it to register on that network
I'm starting to wonder if the EFS partition has become corrupted
Does the phone have a working IMEI number?
*#06#
If not, and don't quote me on this, but I've heard people saying backing up from one S5 and restoring to another has worked for them, but I have not tested this myself
Here is a tool for backup / restore of EFS which controls radio and IMEI etc

Afaik, phones are blocked by hardware ID, (IMEI)
Can't really go into it on XDA as we don't know where the phone is from, but you have enough info from this single thread to fix it if that is the problem

See what i am thinking is a few things efs folder has become currupt or it has been blocked or there is a loose antena as she dropped it a couple of days before the only problem with that one is that you can only access the motherboard to check through the screen an i am not prepared to do that ( i am heavy handed fabricator by trade screen could break ) and if that happens and the antena is fine then i have a paper weight lolz

Well i looked into checking if it was blocked on the internet looked fine but just wondering if it would show straight away or if it would take a couple of days?

Would that not basically make a clone of a phone lets say my s5 backed that up and restored it onto my partners s5 would that not "clone" my phone

She dropped it, then it sounds more like something came loose or broke inside the phone than any corrupted partition
Id say your best bet it to take it to a repair shop if you don't want to risk opening it yourself, although there is a nice teardown guide here

Yeh she dropped it but on carpet and there is no damage to the outside and i have some right dints in my s5 and its fine
In the teardown thread, there is a picture of a small blue wire, looks like it could be related to the antenna, it's possible that has popped off
Maybe it wasn't ever clicked in properly from the factory where yours was
Almost certainly a hardware problem if the phone has not been IMEI blocked and her SIM works in your phone / flashing new firmware doesn't fix it
I have a G900F and Its On all stock, I have reflashed latest twice.
IMEI cert is ok. IMEi ok . but it still dont pick up sim. any idea?
Facing the same problem, g900h
Hi. Im facing the exact same problem with my g900h. Tried updating the software but no luck . I think its a software issue coz the Internet works fine in the phone.
If u find anything, pls let me know!
Thanks.

LG G6 Mobile data issue

Hello All.
This may sound like an easy problem to solve and a part of me hopes it is. but im fairly well versed in android and has me baffled.
Phone runs beautifully 870DS. When i leave WiFi, the swith to mobile data takes for ever and then remains super fickle and intermittent. I sometimes do not have any data moving whatsoever (offline dinosaur in chrome level) When i connect to wifi again, all is fine, instantly.
I have full signal (full bars).
Mobile data on.
Switch to mobile data on.
The correct network registered & the correct APN for that network is set.
I have it set to GSM/WCDMA/ LTE auto
I have tried setting RAT set to every possible combo and it still continues!
I read somewhere it could be caused by radio initiation, so i went in *#*#4636#*#* to run a ping test but "phone information" throws up an error "This application does not work on this device"
Im 95% certain it is unlocked because i I bought the phone in another country and just popped my new sim straight in without hassle.
The mobile data issues started almost immediately. Now im stumped as what to do.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and rewarded with beer :good:
THANKS!!!
In Developer Options, try switching on the "Agressive WiFi to Cellular Handover" option.

Thanks. I will try that and trial run it over the next few days. The issue also occurs randomly while out on LTE or 3G. I will take my phone out to check google or whatsapp and nothing will send. So as your suggestion may be a work around, i doubt it will be a solve.
Will let you know how it goes

go to settings, system, about phone, hardware info and check the model number.
For example I have LG-H870 (European bands, single SIM model).
I see you have dual sim so probably model H870DS and this should have enough bands to work well in Europe and Asia. Check here:

Thanks for that. Yes according to this https://www.frequencycheck.com/carr...0ds-g6-dual-sim-td-lte/mtn-group-south-africa
I do have the correct bands. Could a carrier lock only one of the slots rendering it single sim in effect? The one sim works perfectly, second sim, no dice
Sorry for bumping an old thread.
Gf is having a similar issue on her phone; long story short, it happens that sometimes, after being connected to Wi-Fi and turing it off, it takes ages for her to get a mobile data connection, despite having full signal.
I had her replace the SIM, as I've seen similar problems (intermittent data connection, phone appears connected but no Internet available, etc.) with a SIM card that was about to go bad; it didn't help. Next step would be a full phone reset.
@deathcells : did you find the cause of your issue?
@fagentu.xda
No unfortunately not. I just deal with it. Extremely frustrating standing in the shop trying to pay without internet...
I tried the settings and force options to no avail.
I tried using both sim cards (from different providers) in both slots for months and no combination ever worked for me. I have yet to figure out if i bought a dudd phone or if a work around exists. Please let me know what you find out! Thanks and best of luck
Have the same issue with mine now. It started to go bad a few weeks ago... Tried everything. Changed SIM card, factory reset, etc... and nothing will change.
I'd say that the phone is just faulty. As I'm still under the warranty I'm in contact with LG to find out about a possible fix or phone replacement. I'll try to keep you posted.
Have you guys find a solution for this? I cant do anything. Does flashing kdz to andriod 9 pie helps?
