Yeah hopefully there might be a root exploit in it fingers crossed

Fingers crossed. Might this be Jelly Bean for Z2? I'm new to the Sony ecosystem, but it seems a bit weird for me.

Z2 launched officially with KitKat. The version numbers in this new certified firmware went down, so this might be a step backwards.

Sorry. Punctuation fail on my part...
The numbers haven't gone backwards. "1" is higher than "A" as far as I'm aware.
The previous version was 17.1.A.2.55. 17.1.1.A.0.402 is higher

Ach, so nothing interesting to get the root working. That's a pity.

I'd say it's highly unlikely there will be any new exploits.

Could this contain the fix for the dreaded overheating issue that's plaguing this device? I really hope so. The overheating is the only issue that's making me consider another device.

Id say you should return it if you have issues beside extensive 4k recording.
Heavy use untill it died, and i can only make it "overheat" with 4k camera work.
(Edit) Scratch that, just did another run with 1080 and just goto to 10m, now I am actualy alitle dissapointed.
As far as root goes, there will always be a way to exploit software. Just be happy we have the best minds on it.

I was testing the Xda app on my new d6503. In fact it is my first post on XDA. I've learned a LOT just be reading. Hopefully this new firmware fixes the 4k recording issue and low volumes (notifications and speaker) . I get an "unknown error" immediately after I start recording in 4k. Once a firmware is certified does that mean it will be made public via OTA or PC companion? If so, how long does it normally take from certification to rollout ?

I ordered mine to Australia from Hong Kong, it arrived and had an update to 17.1.A.2.55 out of the box, after a few hours of tinkering I connected it to my PC and installed some of the Sony Mobile Companion software which notified me I had another update to 17.1.A.2.69.
I couldn't tell you what I noticed to be different as I had only had it for 2-3 hours, most of which consisted of downloading most my old apps and signing in etc.

i've just done the update, seems like there isn't any noticeable improvements for now, not until we upgrade to kitkat
Just noticed the update too, nothing noticeable except maybe some placebo smoothness, it seems much less jittery? At least it's a sign that Kitkat is near.
Also, notice how the screen shots have the Kitkat white battery.
Well they did say kitkat would be out for the z1 early Feb
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxUJy4PO8czMU3VFaVp3RTdkdzQ/edit?usp=sharing
Seems kit kat shouldn't be too far away given the Z1 and Z Ultra get the update then the Z/ZL/ZR so seems like there's some progress in getting Kitkat working and out to the public.
This app is still useless until it allows excluding folders and file types. QuickPic is 100x better.
Whether it's "useless" or not isn't really relevant to anything.

Annoys me as well...I would prefer the native album to be fully functional, rather than resort to a 3rd party app for a simple but important feature.

NEW firmware certified!

LINK
Fingers crossed as it seems to be the Kit Kat update based on the firmware number!!! :fingers-crossed:
Seems like a mistake. The first number (in this case, 14), represents the DreamBoard (interface name used inside Sony's dev thingy) belongs to Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra. Just like Z, ZL and a few others, Tablet Z begins with 10. The second number (after the first "stop") is the one that represents a new Android version. Notice how it went from 1 to 3 (from 4.1.2 to 4.3, to 4 (4.3). KitKat should be, in theory, 10.4.x.x.xxx

Haha. Yeah... Info says Z1 should get KK at the start of April, tops. DooMLoRD also mentioned Z might have it even before Z. Considering the Tablet updates always take a bit more to be released, and that the WiFi only versions takes even longer, I bet the SGP311/312 should get KK, following that logic, around the mid or end of April...

It's possible to upgrade via adb sideload? (In case there is an OTA URL or something like that)
(Sorry its my first Sony).
EDIT: Anyway...I'm updating with the PC Companion. So don't worry!

Nothing official but many screen problems seem to have been fixed, also I see more spread out activity between cores and even though my unit didn't have any problems it actually feel "snappier" and more responsive than before but that could just be a "pseudo"-feel.
Downloading, hopefully it will take less then half a day to open camera or phone-app
How long it took you to download this update?

Well I'm suffering a bug with the "auto brightness" and some distorted colors. Maybe it is fixed in this update!

You should try to do some google searches then or even try youtube if you want someone showing you how to flash. Good thing bout the flashtool is that you can flash a unbranded one and its pretty easy.

Really disappointing at how slow these 2 apps open, camera s specifically
- Baseband was updated from 00012-04 to 00012-15

Currently has the Xperia Z2 and I will exchange it for Xperia Z5. Maybe this weekend I'll buy.

It is better to wait for the new batch?

I got mine in another country, that is, there is no guarantee with Sony, just to the store, but it will be very difficult to replace the device.
I wonder why you have chosen the Xperia Z5 instead of Premium! I am still in doubt.
I choose the standard z5 because it's only marginally bigger than my XZ premium is to big for me

Mine is a UK rev 2, there's no problems here. You can't draw a generalisation from a few reported cases.
With every shipped batch, regardless of Rev number, there will be faulty phones.

And how will I know whether UK or Taiwan? The device box indicate?
I got a golden Z5 (non compact) REV3. My right- and bottom sides of the screen are unresponsive. It's only a couple of millimeters but it makes it hard to press "p" and space on the keyboard.
Also reading that some people have back light bleeding.
My problem doesn't seem to effect many people though.
I have a rev1 from the UK with no issues. Screen is fine. Sound is fine. Camera is perfect. The only issues are software related which I hope Sony fixes in the near future.
From what I have read the rev3 series seems to be the ones with the majority of the issues. I wonder what the difference was in the manufacturing process?
Hi guys. How do you go about finding if your Z5 is a rev1 etc? I am thinking of buying my Z5 from Clove either this week, so it would be good to know.

Sony has 6.0 test builds already, operators should be getting them for acceptance tests.
I'm not personally testing them since I'm "stuck" with retails devices at the moment and no sorry I can't tell you how to get it.
I see. So do you think we will get "concept" version of 6.0 just like Z3 and Z3C soon?
I'm receiving an update now...don't know what it is yet!
Z5C was on 6.152 and as of yesterday is now on 6.200
My Z5P on 6.170, so the new update might be 6.200, putting everyone on the same version.

Check Sony's developer's website for instructions on how to unlock your BL and flash AOSP 6.0. I would just wait though. It's rumored to be officially released OTA in a month or two. Then you wouldn't need to lose your DRM keys.

I think Sony may hold off and move to a once yearly now. There have been no substantial Z6 leaks and we usually see something within a month before MWC.

Huh? How do you come to that conclusion?
I guess the update will be with us either this month or next month. Either way we get it soon. The phone works fine ATM so there's no rush.
At this stage every year we usually see a leak of sufficient substance to show a phone will be released. So far nothing. All the leaks are just rumours.
Also at the start of last year Sony was asked whether they were going to move to yearly.... They said 'not yet' (the Z3+ then came out.)
If anything, the Z6 will be the same as the Z5 lineup with a change of SoC. Design change will be later in the year.
Any news? Does we get MM before or after MWC?
真的吗really?
