Screen flashing off and on randomly after screen change - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone! I have a hardware related issue here.
I have replaced the screen (+digitizer in a whole) and since then it is randomly going off and on. Interestingly it even did the same in recovery (TWRP 2.3) BUT not with every software! Installing the TWRP 2.6 or above stopped it happening in the recovery.
I have tried various ROMs so far. The Eclipse ver3 did not flicker, but it has a problem with the registering on a network here in the UK. Stock + stock based ROM (Rage 1.2) are also switching on-off. I am currently looking for a working ROM.
Please let me know if someone with the same problem can find one.
Also tried to play with developer options like Disable HW overlays or Force GPU rendering with no effect.
I wonder if it is a different hardware version of the replacement screen or what else can it be? (screen came from etradesupply)

Update - problem solved
Good news. Installing CyanogenMOD 11 solved the screen flashing issues and everything seems to work right. Thank you developers!

[Q] buttons fail

hi,
i installed cm 7.1.0. after a week or so, the touchscreen stops working properly. i wiped using the calkulkin erase all zip. tried flashing again and erasing then other stable version. touchscreen continues to play up. finally flashed with sun rom. home key and eome keyboard keys still dont work. any suggestions?
cheers paul
It's obviously a hardware issue if it persists across ROMs (Not that a ROM can ever cause a touchscreen to play up randomly)
which bit
thanks 3xeno,
any ideas on which bit - controller or screen itself? I can replace the screen and the receiver.
Cheers Paul
I have similar problems any progress with this?

Samsung GT N7000 strange issue fixed

Hi
Want to share with you an issue which seems to be fixed in a little different manner. I have been experimenting with different ROM, last was with Ultimate and when the update came i updated to XLT4. Post this series of issues so uninstalled the ROM, rebuild with Paranoid and still issue was there - system will reboot at random intervals. All the kernels tried and experimented as given but restarts wont stop. Worse thing is that it will enter a boot loop or stuck at Samsung log. Also tried to check APN settings, all the technical steps in every forum.....but no result.
Finally the new version XLT5 and XLT6 tried but still the problem existed. As a check i installed Ram booster (though i never believed in task killers) and strange but true no more restarts and works smooth.
I am not sure if this is how this should have been resolved, but will be happy if any users faced this issue and a similar thing resolved the problem. Now running with XLT5 and a RAM Booster things are pretty smooth with all root privileges.
Thanks for your time.
Did you wipe data/factory reset first before flashing roms? That might be causing the problems

[HELP] Loss of response on G2 screen !?!?

I have been experiencing unresponsive spots on my screen. For example, in portrait mode, in Titanium Backup, I am unable to get Wipe Data button to work BUT both the Delete & Uninstall buttons, above & below it, will trigger instead. I have also experienced this happening in the Play Store where the Uninstall button will not respond. It seems to be happening in roughly the same area on my screen.
This just started happening recently & I would like to know if this is a known issue or what ?!
I am running the latest Mahdi ROM 7/9 with dr87's stock kernel on my VS980. I have since tried going back to the 7/7 build as well as trying Render & barts modded Dori kernel.
Please reply via PM if possible, many thanks !
*** I have been trying the 'Show Touches' Development Tool and it (obviously) still happens but it is showing touches in the area that is in question. IDK what this proves > not a hardware issue ?! Help .... please.

[Q] SM-G900F (Date & Time problem with [klte] 4.4.4 ROMS)

Hi all,
I've recently upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9300) to a Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F). Phone seemed to be working as desired so decided to go ahead, root, and install a custom ROM for enhanced functionality and customisation. Root process went smoothly, just running a simple CF-AutoRoot with Odin3 (voids KNOX, but no other problems), then installing PhilZ Advanced CWM Recovery.
From there I decided to install an unofficial build of CyanogenMod 11; found information on this forum. Flashing worked perfectly (and took rather little time!), but upon installation I noticed a strange problem. If I hard reboot (power off, power on) the device, with Wifi & Mobile Data off, the time and date are reset to incorrect values. Usually 01/01/xxxx and the time around 00:00. Same problem occurs even if when I turned off Network-allocated time and tried and set time manually.
The same problem occurred with other similar CyanogenMod based builds such as [AICP] and [AOSB]. I decided to restore back to the stock ROM and noticed that the clock and date were set correctly on reboot (and also on custom versions of 4.4.2 such as SpeedROMv7).
I checked with the terminal the value of the 'hwclock' (from BusyBox) and it reported an odd date somewhere in 1970, but different to the ones in found on CyanogenMod etc.
Does anyone have any idea what could cause this kind of problem and how to fix such an issue? If anyone wants any additional information about my device, please don't hesitate on commenting in this post. Would be grateful for any feedback. Thanks! :good:
PS: Also seem to be experiencing a problem with WiFi randomly disconnecting after a period of time. Not seen many threads with this said explicitly however. Problem with no voice in phone calls with headphones still persists but I've acknowledged that this is a known bug at the moment.

Same Issue.
I have been encountering this very same problem for a while now, in fact, I am expriencing the same issue with my Galaxy S4 (i9505). So this must really be an issue of the CM code I guess.
Any ideas on how to solve this would be welcome since it is a really annoying issue

Custom ROMs result in black screen

Hi all,
I'm new to the device so I'm maybe doing something wrong but I don't think so. I got the device with a terribly cracked, I flashed Pixel Experience (Android 10) as it's what I've had on my Nexus 5x, everything was working fine so I proceeded to replace the screen. I replaced it with one from Aliexpress which seems legit.
The phone then wouldn't boot, or seemed not to boot. I saw the splash screen then a black screen. The system did boot as I could see the capacative keys light up and sounds working, I just couldn't see any image on the screen. After a while trying to flash other ROMs and other TWRP versions (at this point TWRP showed up as a black screen too) I found that the following solution solved my problem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/solved-mi-a1-bootloop-t3973131
This is fine, I can use the stock ROM and update it to the latest version but cannot use any AOSP based ROMS and still cannot use any other recovery apart from the one used to solve the "bootloop".
Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this? I thought the screen was maybe a weird version that needed some additional drivers but the strange thing is that it works for the stock ROM.
Regards,
Simon

I'm in the same situation. I think these screens are not 100% compatible so it seems a hardware issue.
Maybe using vendor partition but i'm so stucked as you.
My phone can't hotboot any official recovery although i can boot flashed recovery only if i boot slot a not slot b.
Stock roms boot always using slot a but tried Lineage (thats uses slot b) and got always black screen.
I'll keep reading and trying to solve it.
Regards.

Thanks for your interest but I've made no progress and actually given up on it. I'm sure the issue could be resolved by buying a new, more compatible screen but I'm not going to put any more money into the phone.
As far as the software solution goes, I've tried almost every combination of ROM + Kernel i can think of but the only thing that works is the stock ROM.
I'm going to close this thread as I don't think it's much use to anyone.
Regards
Sorry for posting here, but i am in the same and i noticed that flashing canting 4.9 kernel gives display for like 8 seconds after screen turns off. May it be a kernel config issue? if anyone in this forum could answer this i could try and change it. Also flashing stock kernel on custom rom solves the problem but makes other thing fail
Hello, I've got the same issue. Is there any solution ? Or, at least, any clue to work on it ?
EDIT: I finally done it!
with this kernel (OC) : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...rkernel-v3-1-nonoc-and-oc-12-11-2020.4186317/
And this rom : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-11-0-official-crdroid-7-1-tissot-13-11-2020.4195351/
I installed this kernel, cause you was saying it is probably a kernel issue, so I tried to look for most recent kernel.
And then, it worked, so I think you was right.
I can't be sure it will work with all ROM, but I think.
Hello Mi A1 friends.
So yesterday I decided to change my crack LCD screen and to my surprise the phone boots into Xiaomi Logo and then after that its just a black screen. Message and other notifcation sounds still come in which means that the phone mange to boot into home screen, just with nothing to display. At the time of changing screen, I am on stock kernel and Pixel Experience 10.
Gonna flash back to stock pie(9) rom and see how it goes from there.

Sry for reply to an old post, but how did you do it? How did you flash kernel when you can't enter twrp because of screen issues? I have exact the same problem, where stock rom works but everything else cause blank screen. Also can't boot to twrp - probably the same reason.
