i really think it's between the 7a and OnePlus One, though I'd add the m8 in that list
for me, I hate samsung phones...Locked bootloaders to hell
Find 7a looks like there won't be a lot of dev support, and the OnePlus One isn't guaranteed support because of cm (think N1)
so, I'd choose the m8 because of the HUGE dev community. all variants of the m8 are basically the same and thus most of the software will work from any of the variants

$350 for a beast I on this the only thing I want for this is a good kernel with faux sound support and this is my father's day gift

Many reasons not to buy the OnePlus One if you want a TOP smartphone.
Many reasons to buy it if you want a very good device at a very good price.

Sorry everyone, but there is already a thread for comparing deviced. Can I ask you to repost this into The Device Comparison Thread.
Thanks!

[Q] Galaxy Note 4 / S5 G901 similarities

Hi all..
As you may be able to tell I'm new here. After looking around the Note 4 area of the forums, I've noticed that it is full of Custom ROMs and Kernels, which is great as I'm planning on buying one in a couple of months. What I haven't seen, however, is a whole lot of Dev support for the Galaxy S5 G901F, my current phone. This is baffling me somewhat, as the phones are almost identical inside minus the 3GB RAM of the Note. What is even more odd is that after comparing my G901F to two Note 4 Snapdragons in work today, I noticed that my G901F gave them both a kicking in Antutu Benchmark (50300 for G901F, 47900 for Note 4).
With such similarities between the G901F and the Note 4 Snapdragon, why is it that the Note 4 is being so fully supported by Devs? I thought I'd post it in the Note 4 section as this is theoretically where anyone with the knowledge to answer that will reside.
This wasn't intended as a question but it seems I ticked the box. Could a mod fix it? Cheers.
Hope someone can help
Note is a better and more capable device. Most who try, never go back.
The Note 4 is much more popular.

That's exactly it. Devs only tend to support a phone they own. If there's not many people own your device then there is little support. A lot of note 3 owners were complaining that the eteam released dn4 for the note 2 and not the n3 saying it was an outdated device. The simple answer is none of the eteam owned a note3

Note 2 2015 vs buying 2013 snapdragon device , on a budget

Hi all,
Was hoping for some advice, want to buy this redmi note 2 for $130 new vs a older lg g2 for $140 , the redmi note 2 looks great and has decent developer support but the g2 has a tonne of support but is a touch more expensive (802) version and a few years older.... Which would be a wise budget buy do you think for a year or 2 into the future ? Screen size etc and build quality don't matter as much as the dev support
Thank you
If you had said "LG G4", I would have no doubt, but regarding G2...
It truly depends on your expectations. I got the Note 2 hoping Xiaomi would be the cure to all evils, regarding chinese phones. I got it wrong, even if the phone is still a bomb.
However, in practical terms, the answer to your question is in the title of your post: it's a 2013 phone. Outdated from the start.
LG G4 is way more expensive than $140 , the G2 is still having tonnes of dev support has CM13 , remember its a nexus5 but with bigger screen
Why do u think the redmi note 2 is a bomb ??

Some people love the Note 2. For me it was OK. The Helio X10 chip isn't amazing, its A53 low powered cores but overclocked to 2/2.2Ghz. It also seems to be power hungry when in use.
I still wouldn't go with LG G2 though as its getting quite old. Perhaps get a G3 in the used market or consider getting the OnePlus X. Redmi Note 2 is an absolute No-no if you care about dev support and custom ROMs. Xiaomi hasn't released the kernel source and probably never will. All ROMs use stock kernel so they are limited in what they can do / bug fixing where you need kernel support.
Also I am liking the look of the Xiaomi Redmi 3 with its snapdragon 616 chip. But I will keep my distance from Xiaomi until they start releasing source code. I am a custom ROM addict like you, I love CM and that's what makes Xiaomi phones a no go, unless its the MI3 or MI4 which have full CM13 support.
I have both LG G2 and Redmi Note 2. I prefer Redmi Note 2.

It would be helpful to know your reasons.
Xiaomi is faste in daily use and it has a better camera and cpu. Lg has a slighty better contrast, but you see the difference only if you put them next to each other.
I have a One plus one so I went with a Lg g2 for a smaller size phone , development is much better and if its as fast as my nexus 5 then that is fine for my daily use I'll come back to look at redmi note 2 or 3 when one gets a marshmallow ROM
There is still an option for you to choose redmi note 2 now, but in the near future when xiaomi has locked redmi note 2 bootloader you should reconsider your decision. It means no custom rom for you. Theoritically there is an option to unlock this phone, but the proccess practically not easy, unless you only use custom rom from the day you buy it..

Yeah , actually if buying from aliexpress the note 2's come with the international ROM preinstalled so I'm guessing that's the ok ones that u can flash ROMs with as their bootloaders not locked yet
It all depends on whether you are happy to stick with the manufacturer's firmwares. If so, then go for the Redmi Note 2.
For my part, the next time I get an Android phone, I'll get one with a Snapdragon chipset, because developer support is far better with Snapdragon. For that reason, if I were you, I would go for the LG.

A couple of you have been critical of Xiaomi as being the best choice among Chinese options. I'd be interested to hear who your preferred Chinese manufacturer is. Lenovo and Elephone would be even easier to criticise. I guess that leaves Letv and Meizu.

TBH, I'm not sure whether the difficulty is with Xiaomi or Mediatek, so it is not clear who to criticise. The bottom line is that opensource kernel sources have to be released, but are not being released. Nobody is really interested in "whose fault" this is - and perhaps "they" have what appears to "them" to be good reasons (e.g., untidy or poor coding hacks, backdoors introduced, etc., or whatever) for not releasing the kernel sources. The fact is that the lack of kernel sources hampers development efforts, and perpetuates any errors, unimaginativeness, poor coding, etc., that may be in the firmwares. So Snapdragon it will be in future. There are Xiaomi phones with Snapdragon chipsets, so this is not intrinsically about Xiaomi.

Actually other producers released helio x10 kernel source,HTC is an example,so it's xiaomi's fault
I am sure they will release sources in the future...

This may be a silly question but is it possible to use HTC sources to build a kernel for rn2? Cause xiaomi didn't release sources for mi3 and mi4 yet there are custom kernels for this devices

Note 7 discontinued

Hi, recently the note 7 goes out of market, what do u think?
I wonder if the note 5 will receive more updates to hide the disaster existence of the Note 7, it's very sad I'll be patient and wait for the Note 8 ????
This is what they get for skipping the note 6 name. My guess the next "note" will have a different name. One that will not include the word "note". If they were smart they would go back to a flat screen too.

They didn't know they were going to have any battery issues with the release of the phone so they skipped 6. Pretty sure after all these events they regret doing so. Hopefully Samsung makes something good to cover up all this mess with the note 7.
Why would they want to update the Note 5? It's a 2015 phone! They will focus on the current GS7/GS7 EDGE line until a new Note or S8 arrives. They want to keep loyal users by forcing them to buy newer devices, not by updating older ones. I don't judge them, I'll probably one of those first "loyal users" preordering the next Samsung flagship the next year and hoping that it will not explode before I took it out of the box...
+I am very sorry for Samsung, I like them,
But, it will be nice to also to discontinue new ui grace (I know my opinion is in deep minority).
For me old classic ui was far better (on s5 even better and more things in settings, just too much bloatware- but this is not connected).
This new one is closing to ios unfortunately- less and less customization.
More unfortunately all roms now are n7 ports- great pure n5 roms all discontinued...
So would the note 5 get more software love from Samsung now that note 7 is gone??? I really want that grace UX on my note 5. Might as well stick to it till better version of note 5 comes out..
I don't wanna get s7 edge. Don't seem like good enough jump

I personally think that in a situation like this the FCC sound have tested the replacement phones before they were allowed to replace them and this time test them right.
"Samsung" is POS.
I predict the Note 8 will launch with the S8. Either that or there will be a dual release of the S8 with a rebranded Note.
Now is the time for a rival company like Sony, HTC or even Huawei to jump in.

In an optimistic and ideal world, yes. The Note 5 is the "lastest" Note device and they should give it all the updates Note 7 should had until a new one arrives. But it's Samsung. They're already promoting the S7 as a Note 7 replacement, and letting the Note 5 out in the cold. They will not update the Note 5, they'll focus on a newer Note iteration (or a revised Note7) and bring all the support on those devices. I'm a proud Note 5 owner, I'd love to see newer updates for it, but i'm pretty sure that Samsung will not give us more support than what we actually have. S7 users? Probably they'll have additional months of support, but us? I'm not sure.
I agree with galaxynote2. Samsung will forget of all the pervious note devices and focus on relaunching another note 7 replacement. I have to hand it to Samsung though. I had version 1 and version 2 of the note 7 for about 45days or so and I have to admit it they really hit the nail on the head with this one. I was the best device Samsung ever made. It's too bad it was plagued with battery issues. I love using my note 5 but I sure do miss the note 7. Sorry for getting off topic. Lol just wanted to share a bit of my experience.

Sorry for my bad english I'm from Germany I think if the Note5 will get more updates because the Note7 was a catastrophe, the S6 will get more updates either because the Note 5 is basically the Note version from the S6. But it's a little bit unrealistic haha what do you think ?
If Samsung is smart, they will put all their resources into figuring out what exactly went wrong with the Note7. Remember, they haven't been able to replicate the issue at all, which leads me to believe that it's not a battery issue alone.
The name "Note" is dead, but not the phone. It'll come back rebranded as something else.

any Note 7 users here?

Just wondering if any current Note 7 users are here. I'm a Note 7 user looking to have a forum community again, so if development is compatible I'll hopefully have a nice place to stay.
So any other Note 7 users lurking here?

I had 3 note 7s last year, two snapdragons and a dual sim exynos lol.
I think many of us here will be former note 7 users, hell we should get a discount on the FE.

[Discussion] Updates About The Official Oreo Update

Hi Guys In This Thread We Will Talk About The Official Oreo Update For Note 5
Any one knows any new news
Kindly post it :good:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung-galaxy-android-8-o-update
The weird thing For Now That They Put the Galaxy s6 in (These Galaxys may or may not get Android 8.0) category
And You can see in gsm arena they that galaxy s6 is planned To be Upgraded .
But They put The note 5 in (These Galaxys will not get Android 8.0) category
And If you asked me why I’m talking too much about galaxy s6 and the connection between it and the note 5 i find the answer pretty obvious ,
actually if you compare the hardware between them you will find that they have the same Chipset and the same CPU and the same GPU !!!!!
So You Can Say It’s Not A Hardware issue .
If oreo will not come to note5 and came for s6e then the devs will port it for note5

From Sammy firmware, like S8, S9 and Note 8, the problem are the kernel and libs, bur more for this last; And from AOSP, someone make a build and share in this forum.

I hope , but it will be a stupid move from Samsung
Accordoing to me , Samsung won't give Oreo to Galaxy S6. Because it have taken two major upgrades.
We can only wait for Galaxy A8 (2016). But on the other hand, it's not a flagship device. So, maybe Samsung will give Oreo to Galaxy A8 (2016).
There is no hope for me.
It's a joke not to update at least the s6 and note 5.
Especually since people went two years nearly with the note 4 and 5 being the only notes. And Samsung didn't give either of them justified updates making up for that fact.
Its not Samsung though. Sadly all companies are like this. Google is pretty much no better. And the only ones that give any more have weak uis in comparison.
And anyone claiming about i phones getting updates is clearly too niave to speak on the matter
Note 5/S6 Edge will receive at least 7.1.1. For Example Note 4 start with 4.4.4 and received 5.0.1>5.1.1>6.0.1=3 updates. Note 5 start 5.1.1 and receive 6.0>7.0=2. Next between android 7.0 and 8.0 are not much changes. So why no called 7.5? Maybe merketing and full of numers are reserved only for the newest devices.
This is why I'll never get a Samsung phone ever again. They are only supported for 2 Android versions, the software sucks, lack of support for Exynos cpu.
I've been impressed with the Xiaomi's I've used. The screens are not as good as Samsung. But even Samsung's screens are not good compared to LG.
