Explanation of Fast Dormancy Rule for Battery Saving - One (M8) General

Your battery last longer for about extra 20 - 25%
But your mobile network provider must support that option to be disabled,
otherwise you may have mobile data problems with dropouts or no mobile data at all.
Explanation of Fast Dormancy Rule:
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=1 (Enabled by default)
Negotiation protocol every approx. 7 seconds when connection is idle.
so you can see very often switching between H+/H straight to 3G that quite acceptable.
But afterwards when you read something on the web it will have to renegotiate connection at higher speed (switch to H/H+) in approx 7 seconds when connection is idle.
And this is that what eats your battery renegotiation to switch back and forward very often so you lose the time and battery because of that.
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0 (Disabled)
Negotiation protocol every approx. 30 seconds when the connection is idle.
It will switch between H+/H to 3G in approx 30 sec and the other way around as well.
So it will renegotiate if required and supported by your network provider connection at higher speed (switch to H/H+) in approx 30 seconds when connection is idle.
So this saves your battery!
How do I know if my mobile network provider support to DISABLE Fast Dormancy Rule?
Just simply disable it in build.prop
Reboot your device and then observe the arrows under 3G/H/H+ icon
If you can see that it keep tries to send (blinking arrow up) or receive (blinking arrow down) data or you have no mobile data at all - so your mobile network provider does NOT support that option to be disabled,
then just simply back to build.prop and re-enable that option and reboot.
***You must be rooted to change the value in build.prop***
***Remember always to do a back-up of the original file***
Hopefully I explained it clearly
Please don't forget to hit THANKS button if I helped.
Cheers

I believe that HTC RIL doesnt support that parameter from build.prop ... last I checked this was on the Butterfly ...
You need to edit some more files, similar to Samsung phones

Cannot disable fast dormancy on m8.
Editor says saved but after restart file remains same.

Can i change my firmware backto to stock, unrooted, unlocked (not relocked) HTC__M27 (Turkey)?

for me i dont notice a difference between two. and just more info if your carrier or service provider support FAST DORMANCY then you will get better life with it enabled. so just to clarify and explain more and rank it properly best to worse:
1 - Fast dormancy ENABLED + carrier SUPPORTS Fast dormancy = better battery life.
2- Fast dormancy DISABLED + carrier DOESN'T SUPPORT Fast dormancy = good battery life
or
-Fast dormancy DISABLED + carrier SUPPORTS Fast dormancy = good battery life
3-Fast dormancy ENABLED + carrier DOESN'T SUPPORT Fast dormancy = worse battery life
edit : one more thing to beginners this only applies to Mobile Data and does not take an effect while using wireless.

If you have disabled GPS and Bluetooth read the following, if not do so and come back^^
1. Go into battery stats and look out for anomalies
2. let your phone run out of power and shut down by itself, if the drain does not change significantly after that.
3. think about your installed apps. chat apps like skype and facebook are evil battery eating bastards.
4. check out whether your modem fits your region
5. Reflash the kernel

how to know to best modem that feet my region please ? i have have tried many of them i all work fine but how to know the best one ?
I had sort of the same problem as well. I downloaded Android System Info and went in to tasks and killed com.seven.Z7.service, and that made it stop use my data transfer 100% of the time. Worth a shot? I think it's the SGS email client, that has been reported before as well. Weird cause I've got push email, but still...

Easy Fix... (For the SGS anyway)
Go to... Menu>Wireless and network>Wi-Fi settings.
Uncheck "Network Notification"
Then tap the menu button (to the left of the home button) and tap "advanced"
Select "Wi Fi sleep policy" and set it to "When screen turns off"
Your battery life will improve drastically. Just drain the battery fully, and give it a full charge.
Let me know if this helps you.

You get no scanning for open networks so maybe you stop to scan networks while associated.
I think this is a problem with the modem.bin try to flash other one maybe JPY, JPU or JPM
Can you please check in wi-settings and see if it keeps scanning every 5 seconds when already connected to wifi.

Bugs in 10.4.B.0.569 update

Even though we have finally received the 4.3 update from SONY,
it seems like shipped with some noticeable bugs.
It's better if we can mention the bugs we have encountered after the 4.3 update
1. ) SONY Select
As many people have reported this service is not working in either mobile broadband or wifi connections.
Only a error text is shown as "No network connection. Please try again later"
2.) NFC icon
It suddenly get disapeared while it's already activated by quick settings.
3.) Airplane mode
When the Airplane mode is turned on by power button menu, it cannot be turned off using the same menu since it's disabled.
I had to go to the settings menu and turn it off from there.
4.) Network mode switching
3G networking and LTE network mode switching does not happening correctly in automatically (sometimes).
work arround found :
Had to go to the network settings and disable the mobile data
turn on the airplane mode on and again turn it off
enable the mobile data again then it will correctly jump to LTE network type
5.) Battery bug
Battery suddenly dropped from about 40 % to 8% (without any downloaded applications.)
6.) Overheating
Phone is incredibly overheating while using the HSPA+ or LTE data connection.
with 4.2.2 i didn't had this much of overheating issue.
Please share your findings also :highfive:

1 - No, it is working fine since 2 days ago.
2 - No, this is a customization thing, if you flashed a firmware from a different region it may have been disabled. It is normal, you can re-enable it editing build.prop.
3 - No, it works fine on mine.
4 - No, i don't have this problem.
5 - It happened to me in the first two hours of installing the new firmware, but from 13% to 0% reducing itself in 1% increments every 2 seconds (and it turned itself off), it may be some kind of battery recalibration after installation, it hasn't happened again since then.
6 - I don't feel like it is overheating more than before.
I thing you should do a factory reset. I did it after 4.3 update and the only bugs i have found are:
1 - Progress bar overlaping text while installing applications
2 - Standalone wifi hotspot toggle widget not working (the one in the configurable toggles in notification area works fine)
3 - Bluetooth A2DP music streaming skips a lot in my BMW Car Infotainment system while not charging the phone. It could be some kind of energy saving feature on the bluetooth that it is screwing things up. It worked 10 times better when i was in Android 4.2.2
cheers.

Camera Bug
Tho only bug I noticed is in Camera Addon AR Effects. The Pictures a very dark and there´s no chance to activate LED Flash....
my phone's screen timeout resets back to 15 seconds every once in a while, and wakelock bugs also present
Sometimes SMS received without Notification
I have issues with access to OpenXChange Servers. No new mail can be received.
Just a wakelock bug for me, Suspend_backoff (Android OS) eating battery, it drains like ~5% hourly.

[XPOSED] Mobile Radio Active Fix now available via xposed module

Article about the bug: http://www.xda-developers.com/xposed-module-to-fix-mobileradioactive-bug/
Details here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/xposed-mobile-radio-active-fix-t3137573
This should be considered a must have along with the Lollipop memory leak fix xposed module for anyone rooted even if they don't use any other xposed modules*.
This should noticeably improve battery life.
* Rootcloak is also useful to idol users because it allows system update checker to CHECK for updates without the "root detected" error. You should still not actually INSTALL updates until fully unrooted.
Thanks for the info Famewolf !
I've been closely following the thread but it seems this only fix the wrong reporting of mobile radio in the battery stats and only improve a little the battery life.
Still better than nothing tough.
I'm astonished this huge bug is only looked into by xda volunteers and not by Google...
Bazoocaze did an amazing job btw !

It's more than just "reporting". It's the equivalent of opening the door to your garage or outside in the middle of summer and then wondering where all your cool air conditioning is going. Check your power bill the next month when in this analogy you would have left the door open for hours and hours at a time.
It fixes a bug that dropped the instruction telling it to close the radio so the radio connection remained open using up battery needlessly. I do however agree that it is sad Google and others didn't fix this a long while back as it's been widely reported.

Then you have somehow magically fixed a known bug in all versions of Lollipop.
I have a 6039S with no sim card installed, and it still shows "Cell standby" using a few percentage of power. Is this a bug, and is it the same as the Mobile Radio Active bug?

You might ask in the actual radio fix thread linked in the message I linked to as they can better provide you details but it's a given that if you have not patched the bug then you still HAVE the bug.
So, does it actually work?
I think Radio active bug is not present in this phone, i have been all day on LTE and Radio active time shows 2 hours. which is more or less the screen on time, and the phone was 12 more hours in my pocket or on my desk.

Multiple people on the forum have reported they had to put their phone into wcdma mode to stop excessive battery drainage. You are free to believe as you wish. See previous posts and the thread related to the bug as it's not my job to convince you.
have used Xposed with this module and with the memory fix module for 5.0.x firmware for two weeks, but didnt notice any noticable battery improvements or less lagging,so i deleted all modules and xposed.
I don't have this bug too. Maybe it's on some carrier or some lte frequencies... report thing is easy but send logs or open a real thread about that is difficult for you Famewolf and you don't even know or you can't prove if the module do something on this phone execpt a placebo in the battery stats... hey guys now I can't permanently keep the data to " wcdma only" by going in phone testing (*#*#4636#*#*) remember that?
perhaps it is because of the "mobile active radio fix"
Xposed module because it was working fine earlier but even though now I have tried disabling module and uninstalling module but I can't change it to wcdma only, it keeps fixed on gsm only.
even though in setting I have it set to 3g preferred but because of poor reception many time it goes to 2g and back to 3g it is very irritating.
btw I am able to use 3g, can anyhody tell me how to fix that with fixing of mobile radio active bug
or is it a problem with the cm12.1 itself, btw I'll post in both forums

I use wcdma only mode all the time as i'm in a fringe area that barely has 3g in both stock and now in cm12.1....the radiofix module wouldn't have anything to do with it. You can go into the dialer and do a *#*#4636#*#* then go into phone info which will let you select wcdma only or you can install the "network" app from either google play or f-droid which when ran acts as a shortcut to take you straight to the phone info screen so you can set wcdma only.

How to increase wifi signal on any TW Rom

Just thought I'd share. It's a trick I learned on the Samsung epic OG
No root needed very simple
Go to dialer pad
Enter *#0011#
When the info screen appears hit the menu hard key
You'll see wifi.... Click it
Next you'll see by default powersave mode is enabled. (it sets signal power to 6 out of 10)
Uncheck powersave mode
And that's it. Watch the signal on your wifi in areas where you had maybe 1 bar you'll have 3 now etc.
Enjoy

yes do the exact same thing but check the power save box.
i see no battery difference at all ive been doing it since the samsung epic. in fact theres a way to allow LTE to connect at a higher decibel than normal (then you'll have LTE at farther distances) but i cant find the proper code yet. its under Entry RX
in the dialer codes

This is expected IMO. I mean you are physically unchecking "power save" which I believe increases the gain on the amplifier. Unless you are actually suffering from poor wifi signal in an area where there's nothing you can do about it, I would leave it as is. If you're having wifi issues in your home, I would upgrade hardware or add a wifi repeater before messing with the phone.

FreeMy experience with Nougat!

EDIT: (!) WiFi and mobile network periodically die!?! ... Oh dear .... AND poor Wifi reception!! Keeps disconnecting me.
Performance; Same as before, if not better.
Camera; New manual settings (shutter speed, focus etc) are awesome
Xloud; definitely makes the audio louder
Battery; remains to be seen
Multitasking; it's works and is cool, can be a bit glitchy
Other thoughts;
- I don't like how you don't have direct access in quick settings to enable / disable wifi or mobile data. You have to go through a second menu to access the toggle switch.
- I don't like that there is no built in night mode
- I wish there wasn't a constant data saver icon
+ I like that there is a move apps option in the transfer to SD card section.
+ More free storage !!
+ VoLTE works (for me at least)
+ Redesigned system apps look good
+ Sliding down the notification shade is no longer difficult (due to disabled animations) in stamina mode
+ May security patch

I'm in the UK on F3111. Did you try dialling *#*#4636#*#* and enabling it under phone information?

My battery life is way better than before. I sometimes don't even charge it overnight when I didn't use my phone a lot (in other words: stand by time significantly improved for me). Average cycle indicated by gsam is 1d10h .
XLoud is good to have, although I think it makes the sound quality worse and the lowest volume level way too loud.
About night mode, I think it is built-in but just hidden. In other words, I think you need to use an app just to access the settings, but the actual implementation is built in.
On the subject of wifi quick settings: I works in two steps now. First a small bar is drawn, in which you can toggle, then the full quick settings which give access to the more complex wifi menu and other quick settings. I'm not really a fan either, but I guess that'll change once I trained myself to use the small bar for quick toggling.

Oh thanks. Didn't realise you could toggle WiFi in the small bar. Does your phone randomly completely freeze after Nougat and even holding the power button does nothing?

June security patch? 33.3.A.0.131 has the May security patch. Where did you get june from?
Mine has the May patch, as for the night mode, I think there are apps on the playstore that can enable it.
I've noticed that Swiftkey now cannot even be disabled and Bravia engine is gone, the setting is now called Image Enhancement. They gave us xLoud but took away Bravia Engine.
What is Sony thinking by replacing all their good apps with commercial versions.
