USB Audio out/dockmode - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone found a working solution for audio out via USB on S5? Can't find dockmode support for audio!?!

OTG cable should do it

Bought it, got it, doesn't work on S5 per manufacturer.

Digital audio output over USB? Possible?

Like the title says, would there be any chance to get digital audio out of the phone, so that you could connect an external digital to analog audio converter to the usb?
I'm just curious...

Anyone?

It may be possible with blefish CM 10.1 since it will come with OTG functionality activated in his 3.4 kernel.

True. There already seems to be support added in the audio HAL for USB accessory aswell, but it's not tested.
Whoa! Nice...
Hopefully it will work, so that I could use the phone as a HQ audio source.

Would I need an otg cable (=pins4 and 5 shorted) to connect the USB audio device or would it work with a regular cable? I do need an otg cable for keyboard/mouse, right?

While I would like to add full OTG so it would detect whether it should act as host or peripheral automatically, there will still be manual toggle mode for it. You'd need a male->female switch though, as you can't connect it otherwise.
But does the male -> female adapter have to short circuit the 4th and 5th pin (Known as an otg cable) OR does a regular adapter work?
I'm about to purchase one, so I need to know it.
Besides that, thanks a lot for being (the only?) developer putting effort in this issue!

Edit. Oh, does the 4./5. Pin shorting only make the device detect the host/peripheral thing automatically? So it would work with a regular cable, if you'd turn it on manually?

USB DAC support?

The auxiliary ports on all phones are crap, does the Nexus 4 support exerting music through USB? If not, is there a kernel that has the capability of enabled that function? Thanks.

Probably yes, but you would need a Y cable splitter for the USB power. In the end you'd get a really bulky setup. Not worth it IMHO.

I don't need the power I just want to send info to my car audio.

That is called USB audio out. The Nexus 7 supports OTG of of the box, but even then it cannot support USB audio out.

So the chances of it working on a Nexus 4 is slim.

Well I'm pretty set on getting the S5 over the Z2 (which I know has usb audio out) so that's why that was what I wanted to hear. I also e-mailed Samsung asking pretty much the same as the op and the reply was basically "we don't know". I thought that someone would know the answer here

My answers was based on experience, all the flagship from S3 has the usb audio out. There is no reason not to include usb audio out as long as s5 has usb on the go capabilities. If you are not sure about that maybe you should wait a review but to me is 100%. I already preordeed S5 to use it with Fiio E17 external DAC/AMP. Take note that S5 has the same usb connector like Note3 but note 3 is backwards compatible with standard usb 2.0 on the go cables. And I used my fiio with note 3 without problems.

Just in case anybody was wondering. S5 USB Audio out works .. Hooray !
I haven't extensively tested how much better the audio sounds with USB vs directly from headphone.
My setup
S5 >> USB OTG Cable >> USB Cable to my hippo cricri Amp >> Headphones out.
In case you were wondering, s3 and s4 LTE+ didn't support that. The Note 3 did.

Edit: A list of standard USB DAC reportedly interworking with the Android-powered smartphone Samung Galaxy S5:
stock Samsung Galaxy S5 > digital USB audio out >> USB OTG cable (ID pin grounded) >> standard USB DAC >> amp >> headphones

Dock hack

Anyone know how to splice a micro usb cable and attach it to the dock do I can charge my tablet? Charging via micro usb port isn't working and up need a way to charge the device

DIYS desktop dock. Some questions.

Hey folks.
I've been thinking about this for a while and I wonder if it is technically possible.
Basically I want to build my own desk dock. It should have HDMI output, charging and USB otg for connecting peripherals.
I'm not sure if it's possible this way, though.
I was thinking of using an otg y cable (with female usb and female microusb) as a base. The regular female USB would be hooked to an externally powered USB hub (just for the sake of having more than 1 USB port available). The female micro USB would be connected to a slimport HDMI adapter (to allow using it with a monitor or TV.
If anyone knows about the technical possibilities please let me know. Maybe someone has tried something like this before?
Thanks in advance

If I'm not wrong - n4 can't do usb otg and slim port hdmi at the same time.
What a pity!
