[Q] Move Apps to EXT SD Card - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, I'm trying to move my games to my External SD card since I've got only 1gb left of my internal, but when I try to do it just from the Application Manager inside Settings, it only moves a few megabytes (X-Com Enemy Unknown has 3.7gb and moved to SD 60mb of it, awesome...)
I'm rooted, using X-Note 13, knox tripped 2 minutes after getting inside the house with the phone, I don't care about warranty or stuff, just... Could someone provide a fix, please? Tried App2SD, Link2SD and other apps like this, but it seems all they do is just move provide me with a shortcut to the same Application Manager from Settings that does the same useless thing. I didn't get a 64gb sd card to move 60mb out of 3.7gb from a game, seriously...

I think it depends on the programing of the game what can be moved and what not. Some programs can't be moved at all, but most of the big games I have, large portions of the data was moved to SD card during the install all by itself. If you just purchased the card, maybe reinstalling the game from start would give you better results, if that was an option? Also it seems to me you're using close to 25 GB of internal storage but you only mention one game, surely you must have many other large programs installed, what about them? There are some programs that can fool the system into "thinking" your external SD card is internal memory and your internal memory becomes external, but I don't have details ATM, also this could create problems if your SD card went bad.
And maybe you should take a hard look and see if you really need all those programs? If I didn't keep the tabs and clean all the junk, delete less frequently used programs etc. on regular basis, 96GB of memory wouldn't be enough either LOL.

I mentioned just one game as an example. I have quite a lot of space-hungry games, such as Bard's Tale, Modern Combat 4, Gangstar 4, Amazing SpiderMan2, etc...a total of around 40 games, mostly large games, and I have basically moved everything I could from Application Manager, yet it moved very very very little out of them. I tried deleting and reinstalling them, formatting my sd card, reflashing the rom from scratch with fresh sd, basically same thing every time. I got this phone to be able to have a mobile console with me that can also receive calls (boring job, games on phone help a lot), and now my sd seems so pointless
Internal Memory 26.3gb - 1.2gb free
Ext SD Card 59.0gb - 42.6gb free

bump, please?

The only app that worked for me is FolderMount [ROOT].

RinaldiMe, thanks a lot man, I just bought that app, testing it now, but from it's description, it should do exactly what I hope . It requires individual move of each app and folder, but it does the trick, thank you so very much
Will come back with replies as soon as I move 5-10 apps and test it out more
L.E.: Nope, bought the app, not just the free version, moved some files, still didn't work, apps just thought they didn't have their files and wanted to redownload...
Back to square one

I'm assuming your on kk bootloader and dunno if Mattiadjs int2extsd mod will work on 4.4, but I've been using his script meant for JB 4.3 that switches where the huge data and obb files are stored to your extsd instead of internal storage.
Try checking the galaxy s4 thread for the kk mod, I'll try looking too and post a link for ya. I know what your going thru as I have over 500+ apps/games and needed the 128gb SanDisk to store all my obb/data files along with pics and mp3 media.
Here's the link to the kk int2extsd mod

Any luck with that link I sent you, it's really easy to use as you just flash it in recovery. Your rom and kernel need to support init.d and it only works on TouchWiz roms.

myeah... tried that link, did what I expected... broken basically everything
Restoring a backup now, hoping it'll work. Basically it still saw my internal sd as internal sd, but it didn't see my card properly anymore (and yes i did check the exfat or fat32 version to use)

Are you tried App2sd?

Read op instructions. You have to put the same name folder both internal and external. Example: titanium backup. Both of internal and external must have the same name and caption.
Put all the titanium backup data in external titanium backup folder.
Leave titanium backup folder in internal empty.
Run the app, and select the correct path.

Any luck? this seems to be a generic android problem. can't believe no one figured out a solution yet. tried link2SD but it doesn't seem to see the full game size... detects something like 50 mb offf a 3 gb game...

assume u r note r rooted...install Xposed installer, then download a module obb on sd , enable it at the modules after downloading and installing, reboot and them move any game obb data from the note internal memory to the SD after creating folder Andriod/obb at sd
working at my note 9005 4.4.2 echoerom v19

[Q] how using sdcard as internal memory ?

Hello,
i'm newbie.. i have a phone Htc..rooted..rom cm7.. and when i need more space in memory i use app2sd.. very simple..
So.. i've buy a iconia 500 16gb.. and with same idea i take a sdcard 32gb ..
I root.. i've thor 14.2 installed on my device and i try to use app2sd because i've try a lot of new apk lol... but .. not possible .. i don't have the option "move to sd" .. and app2sd say to me "sdcard" emulated...
What does it means ? there is a solution to use external sdcard like memory card ?
thanks a lot and sorry for my poor english
Fab
Simple answer. No.
There is an app called Link2sd in the market that will let you transfer apps to your sd card. It isn't an easy setup, but I managed to make it work. I've been using it for over a month and so far, even updating my games seems to go smoothly. Get a class 4 card at the very least or it isn't even worth the effort.
Also there is an app made to move Gameloft games to the sd card called "gl to sd". I can also confirm that this method works on the Iconia.
I haven't looked for any other solutions because these work so well for me. Note that I am using the mostly Stock 3.2 Rom that ezterry put together for us. And the stock kernel. I've no idea whether or not these will work with other configurations.
I may look around again since it's been a while, maybe something new has been released...

Probably cause the path to ex SD card is different on the 14.2.
I think it's because in honeycomb they call the internal storage /mnt/sdcard /mnt/external_SD is the actual sd card, and I have yet to find a way to put that to use for app data.

Can you go over how to setup link2sd to move install apps to sdcard?

I would also like to know how to set this up. link2sd requires 2 partitions on the SD card. is this true for the a500 or can we say one partition is the internal memory and the other partition is the sd card?

Ive been using GL TO SD app for a few days now and can confirm that it really works. the apps that requires lots of memory space would be games, so I'm pretty happy to be able to just put the game files on the ext sd. but i would love to know how you set up link2sd to make it work for other apps or maybe you can point us to the right direction. Thanks in advance for your help

From what I've heard on other forums, Motorola has disabled the feature to move apps to the SD card. I believe that they did this to remove any root exploits. I'm not sure if this is a feature in the developer edition sold directly from Motorola though. Maybe someone with a developer edition could enlighten us.
Now that we have root and jelly bean (I still cant get root on my jb leak but I'm open to suggestions) .....any possible methods to move our apps to the damn SD card?? I'm already getting notifications that the internal storage is almost full.....****ing ridiculous

Also when it says press button combo for bugreport, I hold vol.up and power, until the root process is complete, vibrates a total of 5 times for me but it worked flawlessly twice, so yeah I suggest u try and hold the buttons until it reboots because of program

Hey guys, I got a BONAFIDE way to move our apps 2 sd!!
first: partition your sd card
then: install and use link2sd
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432459
boom there's the tutorial, took me a good 30 minutes to do (was watching the new always sunny episode while doing it) but it freaking WORKS...
definitely the best bonus of us getting root on our razr m's thus far as the internal storage is realistically only 2-3 gigs so this adds like 33-66% to your apps storage!!

I attempted this while carefully following the directions and it did not work on a Droid Razr M..... I succeeded creating the 2nd part. and the app identified it accordingly while looking under storage devices, but unfortunately the app only allows the option to move to "sd card"....which is the name on the internal memory, so it gives an error...motorola sly-fully named the internal memory "sd card" so the app keeps trying to send things there and all I get is an error message.............have you succeeded doing this with a Razr M?? And if so what could I be doing wrong???? Thank you!

Tried starting over and partitioning the apps partition to FAT32 as well as Ext 2, neither worked. Tried on another card, still no go.
The app thinks the internal storage space is actually the SD card, because that's what it's called. If you look around with a file explorer, you'll see that the internal storage space is actually /sdcard. If you want to get to the REAL sd card, it's under storage/sdcard1. storage/sdcard0 seems to be the same folder as /sdcard. Is there a way/a different app that lets you specify where you want to establish your new apps folder? I think that's all the fix it needs. But I am no dev.
Its called external1 actually.

Any update or luck to move apps to sdcard?
Do we need absolutely to root the device ? Apps like gps navigation, maps.... need more space and I can't move them to the external card.
Yeah if anyone could look into this that would be awesome...my car got broken into in Newark yesterday so I'm busy tryna get that taken care of, I'll be able to mess with it myself later in the week
It's getting really irritating though, i can't keep large game apps on here because of this problem, which is ridiculous seeing as to how the phone runs them like a champ and i have a whole 32 gig card in there

[Q] what happens if i unroot?

I saved many apps, mostly gameloft games to my SD card, now what will happen if i unroot my device? Because my tablet would not have enough memory if it goes back to the internal memory drive.
Probably bad things.... If you've filled the "Internal" memory using a 32/64 gb sd card swap mod then the 16 gb will probably(not sure) put all the system files first BUT this is not something I'm 100% sure about. You will most definately loose stuff and worst case the tab won't boot but you should be able to recover this by flashing a stock rom and formatting the internal card 1st by going to recovery and wiping data/ache.
Personally, I'd do a nandroid backup, take out the sd card and put it somewhere safe for if I want to use again, then wipe/factory reset and flash a new stock rom using ODIN.

Your system files aren't on the SD card just the apps data. So if u lose the swap u won't have the gameloft game data any longer... the device will still boot. Not sure if losing root will take away the sdswap or not....I would think so however....

Buji.... there is an app called "(Root) Foldermount" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount in the play store that works great and you can move all of those large OBB and DATA files to your extSDcard. I think the free version lets you mount 4 or so folders and the $1.99 Premium upgrade has unlimited.

Asphalt 6: Adrenaline
Asphalt 7: Heat
Need for Speed™ Most Wanted
Zombiewood – Zombies in L.A!

[Q] Move To SDCARD...........App or data???

Hi there to all, this is my first post in this magnificent community so i hope not to post this in wrong place..........my question is related to Move to sdcard option in recents FW uptades for S4 (mine is i9500), anyone knows if this option is moving the whole selected app or just its data??? i was making some test moving a couple of apps (like games and other stuff) from internal memory to external sdcard (64gb) and it appears to move just the data, I think this way because after using this option, the memory space used in internal memory by the moved application has not been released, at least not more than a couple of MegaBytes, the same for external sdcard wich is not being loaded with full app size just a couple of MB too, however moved apps are not accesible when extSDcard is removed. So im a little confused how it works, so maybe u can help with this doubt......thanks in advance.

The option that is available in the stock firmware moves the app (not data) to the external SD. In the case of for example Real Racing this is only 9.45mb.. This of course is useless. The app FolderMount ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount) can also move the game data to your external SD which will be something like 2gb in the case of real racing! This does require Root though. FolderMount is already enough reason to root your Sgs4!

This would effectively prevent me from using OmniROM ever.
Are you saying it's a bug, or that the feature has truly been eliminated going forward?
Security and file system changes have caused certain "move app to external storage" scripts and apps to fail. This is not an Android-level issue.

Do you know then, is there a way to fool apps to install at least their data on external card?
On N7100 there is mere 10GB of space, install 2 gameloft games, and phone cries it's out of storage space. And I have 64GB card, 128GB on its way.
I understand they cry for FAT32's lack of permission support, but what If I format the card in ext4?
Or could I possibly swap internal and external card (I, of course, understand it's risky and dangerous action).
I haven't looked into it yet, but this might help.

That's not the issue here.
I can read/write on both sdcards (emulated and physical).
Problem is that internal space runs out quickly, and there is no obvious way to force apps to use external card instead of emulated.
I.e. If I install Nova 3 (3.5 GB), Asphalt 8 (3.7 GB) and Galaxy on Fire 2 (1.2 GB), uce omnirom system update and make couple of photos, I'm out of space, and can't even update apps through google play, because it requires alot of extra space, not even mention i.e. recording a video. And my 64GB card sits useless in its slot.

If you are rooted you can accomplish this by using an app called folder mount. When you open the app use the add button at the top right name the folder, for example (RR3) for real racing, then tap the source button and navigate to the folder the app data is stored in, for games usually android/data or android/obb chose that folder and leave the destination folder name the same, it will prompt you so just chose yes, press the check button at the top right and then wait for the folder to be moved, you can monitor the progress in the status bar, it may take some time if it is a large game or app, when it is complete simply press the mount button in the folder mount app then go back and play your game. to verify that the folder was moved successfully check your internal storage in android settings before and after you use folder mount. Make sure before you use the app or game you have the folder mounted or you may get an error or in the case of real racing the game tried to redownload all the game assets. Hope this helps.
thank you
