UPDATE 2/5/15 How to get to 100% STOCK OA6 (LOLLIPOP) and Root! - Sprint Galaxy S 5 General

Here is how to get to OA6 100% stock:
1. DL Odin 3.09
2. DL stock OA6 TAR
3. Make a backup of your apps/data (TiBu/Helium/etc). MAKE SURE THE APP/DATA BACKUPS ARE TO YOUR EXT SD CARD!!!
BACKUPS (from TiBu and apps like that) PROBABLY WILL NOT WORK GOING FROM 4.4.4 TO 5.0!
4. Go into recovery and do a factory reset and wipe system/internal sd/cache/dalvik. Power off phone completely!
5. Power on into Download Mode and flash the stock OA6 tar (put it in "AP/PDA" in Odin).
**6. Do a factory reset in the stock recovery after you flash the tar (not necessary but deff won't kill ya!). **OPTIONAL
7. In "About Device" your baseband and software should now end in OA6 and Android version should be 5.0. If they are not, then you did something wrong, go back to step 2 and try a redownload, and reflash of stock OA6 tar.
**OPTIONAL: Root** 8. DL CF-Auto Root.
9. Place in PDA/AP slot in Odin and run it.
10. DL a custom recovery of your choosing and flash.
11. Reboot to recovery and FLASH THIS (SuperSU v2.45). Now root should work reliably on Lollipop (THANKS CHAINFIRE!!)
12. Download and install MOAR v6.0! **If you do this no need to do steps 13 & 14!**
13. Download and flash Knox Removal to get rid of Knox. BE SURE TO THANK TDUNHAM!
14. Get flashlight toggle as well as plenty others with THIS APP!
15. PROFIT!

1. DL this stock NCB tar.
2. Take out your EXT SD Card (if you have one).
3. Flash the stock NCB tar (put it in "PDA" in Odin).
4. Do a factory reset in the stock recovery after you flash the tar (not necessary but deff won't kill ya!).
5. Reboot into Download Mode and make sure it says ROM type= OFFICIAL! If it says custom you will not be able to take the OTA.
6. Reboot, check for the OTA to "ND2" and wait for it to complete.
7. Your baseband and software should now end in ND2. If it does not, then you did something wrong, go back to step 1 and try a redownload, and reflash of stock NCB tar.
8. Re-root.
Also if someone that has SuperSU PRO version, can check if "Survival Mode" works for the GS5, that'd be awesome!

13 hrs left . Anybody want to scp it to my machine? If so I will host it for a few months, got a cable connection but it will definitely be faster than that link.

not needed
all this is unneeded if someone would just post the update from their phone cache for those that are rooted.

Back up what you want using titanium backup to your external sd, then follow the steps above bud

Why the big deal???
I don't see the big deal with upgrading to ND2. Haven't read that it allows the download booster to work...lol
This what is suppose to be updated:
Google search results are no longer included in the list when using S Finder
Fixed device responsiveness when using S View Cover
Enable camera capture during voice call
Fixed alarm failure when deleting alarm
Fixed email duplication, when moving an email from original folder to another folder the email should only be viewable in the moved to folder
FYI personally like how the S finder pulled up google search stuff.

That's what I thought, thanks.

Sorry, great point. I will add to the post to make a backup of your apps/data (TiBu/Helium/etc).

I did NOT do (6) the factory reset...
I have SuperSU PRO... "Survival Mode"... SuperSU PRO did not stick...
Now on ND2, rerooted, TWRP'd...
restored via Titanium...
had to rerun SDFix...
Thanx

They don't necessarily repackage the ROM with every update. I did the upgrade just to get the baseband update. Not too painful at all.

If you read steps before hand and have a speedy internet connection. This shouldn't take more than 10-20min! Painless!

[Q] How to root the S4 with no OS?

So I rarely ever root my android devices. Recently bought an S4 AT&T variant (SGH-i337) and felt to locked, so I rooted. Everything was fine, until I mistakingly deleted the system files. This ended up making me lose root as well. So now my phone won't boot, but I can somehow get into TWRP recovery mode. Problem is its not rooted and I can't flash any rom. I don't have a PC easily accessible. So I would like to know if there is a way to root through command line. I am able to upload files onto the phone via adb. Any help would be much appreciated.
Flash super su-busybox in your recovery. Do you have a nandroid you can flash.
Ps, you don't need to be rooted for twrp. If you have a nandroid that's what I'd flash to get your system back.

Just to make sure I understand you, nandroid is the backup I originally made right? Unfortunately I don't have access to my computer from where I am so I can't get it. I am curious as to how twrp didnt get erased after I stupidly deleted the system. So with the nandroid it shouldn't give me the samsung system warning about unauthorized files right? And I appreciate your input by the way!

Nandroid would be the backup you did in twrp. Usually it would be on your sd card. I'm not sure what you have on your computer. Twrp isn't erased because it's on a different partition than your system partition.
In twrp, do you have any files when you click on restore? Those would be the nandriods

Ahh, yes. I have that, except I backed it up on my computer instead because it took up a lot of room. I won't have access to my computer until friday night. I should be able to push that using adb right, because my phone isn't recognized any other way unfortunately. But thanks for the clarification. I will also try super user again. I tried one, but maybe I'll try it again to see if that'll work.

Not that easy. You'll need to get the stock firmware. I use sammobile.com for firmware. You have to register but it's free. You down load a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from it. That's what you'll use on Odin. Then follow this guide with the file you downloaded http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398/url]

Glad it worked. Mdb should be fine. See how it works and if you find you're missing anything try the mdl. Mdl is a little newer. Now make sure you root it and freeze the apks that would update it to mf3

MDL is required in order to flash several of the ROMs here on XDA. you can get the MDL firmware here. scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter the required code to begin the download.
as jd1639 said, be sure to root and freeze the necessary apps after first boot up. keep the sim card out and wifi off until this is complete. cheers

The firmware is the operating system. It's like Windows or Linux.
Umm, that doesnt sound right. Im very familiar with unix, and ive never heard anyone interchangeably call linux a firmware. Online they definitely make that distinction. If you're saying that then its more like a part of the OS or connected to it somehow? If not then I really gotta reevaluate what I think I know lmao.

4.4.2 KK Update Fix.

INFO: Rooted Version of NB4, I was on 4.4.2 Kit Kat leaked. I reverted to MJ5 from the leaked version then updated to NB4 and rooted with kingo.
Thanks to...
@smokeystack76
@Otisrhw
@Jakman85
@Azrael.arach
@Budrweber
UPDATE: 3/30/14
The same method has been confirmed by @Budrweber but instead of using adb, just flash from your ext sd card.
NOTE: ADB SIDELOAD WILL NOT CAUSE A WIPE, BUT PUSHING THE UPDATE FROM EXTERNAL SD WILL WIPE ALL DATA.
Few users have reported unrooting on NB4 after changing files and downloading the OTA and updating normally.
USB DEBUGGING MUST BE ENABLED, if you are this far there is no need for me to explain how to turn it on. If your phone is unresponsive to your computer even though you have installed, re-install via Kies 3. Turn Kies 3 off before running ADB.
First of all, you are going to need an ADB Sideloader and it can be found here.
Install to directory C:\Mini-SDK
We'll come back to ADB later.
Now you're going to need the update file found here.
Rename the file to update. (DO NOT NAME UPDATE.ZIP, JUST "UPDATE".)
Place "UPDATE" into the same directory as your ADB C:\Mini-SDK
Now lets leave ADB and the Update file alone and start replacing the files on your phone!
You'll need the following files.
system/xbin/dexdump (if deleted you can find the file here or you can copy/paste & replace)
system/csc/feature.xml (If deleted find it here.
Delete the original "feature.xml" and rename "feature.xml.bak" to "feature.xml")
Download the fix.zip from this page.
You do not have to reset permissions, I did not how ever do as you feel and works for you.
Step 1 copy the mobicore-presetup.sh to /system/bin
Step 2 copy all the APK files to /system/app.
Now navigate to system/bin
You should have a "ddexe" file, if it is named "ddexe_real", rename it to 'ddexe".
This should fix all the known errors in the process of adb side loading.
If you continue to get more errors use the file dump located here.
UPDATE: app_process is another recurring error, please grab this file from the dump uploaded from @smokeystack76
Now to the fun and most anticipated part of the day...
Volume + button up, power and home button all at the same time. Release once you see Recovery mode.
Navigate to Update from ADB.
Plug up to USB.
Now, when you start windows cmd prompt, you can either start from the ADB folder is located in by control, shift + right clicking or manual cmd.exe in "run" or "search"
Once command prompt is loaded,
Type in the following command.
"CD /D C:/MINI-SDK"
Then if you are in the right directory and you placed the "update" file accordingly... type...
ADB SIDELOAD UPDATE.ZIP(the file name should not have .zip or you will get a "can not read" message.)
and now you should be on your way to 4.4.2 Kit Kat.
Not bad. The system dump is here.
Now you need to post links to this thread in the other thread
Thanks for the step by step. I'll try this tomorrow.
You were on a rooted NB4, correct? You restored to MJ5, updated to NB4, rooted, and then did this?

Correct.
For anyone trying to find an easy way around this whole update mess. Just go to your local best buy store and talk to one of the Samsung reps. They don't have the kit kat update yet but however they can reflash 4.3 on your phone wiping out all your data (make sure you do a back up from home) and this will let you get the OTA update with no problems. My note 3 has been rooted twice one being last night and it worked. Just make sure your not rooted when you take your phone.

So did you root with Kingo too when you were on NB4? I didn't want to use Kingo, but I thought what the heck, and used it for quick rooting. Then after the Kitkat update, I realize I have SuperSU as a system app even after factory reset. Apps like CPU-Z reports my devices is rooted when it's not.
Is this the only thing that's not same as pure stock NC2?

you can re-run and use kingo to remove the root
Also if you are weary of the update, back up your files and apps then factory reset. Once you are factory reset, download the OTA but just hit "remind me later".
Do the instructions in the OP and after it installs it tells you that you have an update pending, install the update and it covers any files that may have went missing in the update.zip.
If you wanted to be 200% sure.
I am set at official and with no custom lock and Knox is 0x0.

But my phone is rooted? Should it matter if this happens or not? And what should I backup in titanium backup?

You don't need to worry. Everything can be fixed. Titanium backup will backup your apps and their data.
Do you have titanium backup? If you do go into backup and restore and see if lucky patcher is there. If it is freeze it and that may solve your problem

I can't freeze things as I only have the lite version currently.....
Also, I removed Lucky Patcher....But it didn't fix...
So even if my phone is rooted, and I install a file over this one, will I not brick my phone?

Here are your options, you can flash with Odin which will return you to a like new condition. It will wipe your phone and you'll have to reinstall all your apps and data. Anything on your external sd card will be ok
Your other option is to see if you can uninstall lucky patcher and all the changes it has done. I don't know how to do that.

I'm just scared its going to break or some ****.
Also, which way would you do? The ODIN way?

If it was me, I'd Odin. But I do it often so it's easy and I know how to restore things easily and have backups. I dint know what you have on your device so it's hard to tell how easy it will be for you.

All the stuff you want to backup and don't want to lose. I don't what you have and where it is so you're going to have to make sure you backup what you want because Odin will delete it

We don't know what exactly you instead on your device when you installed lucky patcher.
Take a big breath and everything will be fine. Backup all your data with TB then flash back to stock with Odin.

Here is what you're going to want to do:
1 goto sammobile.com and download the nc1 firmware to your pc. You'll have to register, but it's free. Extract the zip with 7-zip, you get a .tar.md5 file
2 download Odin 1.85 to your pc. Google it.
3 open Odin, then boot for device into download mode, power + home + vol down. Plug your usb cable into your device and pc.
4 Odin should recognize your device, com should be yellow, upper left hand corner on Odin
5 in PDA slot browse to where you extracted the firmware
6 hit start

[Q] How to go back to stock? (SPH-L720T)

I have already unrooted my phone but I've been getting these update notifications to update my phone and when it restarts the phone to update, it fails! Everytime. So i'm guessing I need to go back to stock using Odin and a Tar file but I havent found any for the SPH-L720T version just SPH-L720. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
You didn't search long or hard enough. The answer IS here - even for the T version.
I'll thow this out to you.
Reason you can't update is because you have a custom recovery/kernel.
To get/receive an update you have to be on FULL Stock recovery and kernel.
If you want to get back to full stock you can try this
Got to sammobile.com and login in (register if you have to) then download the latest .tar for the T model
Then extract (unzip) the firmware file (just to the .tar.md5 file)
Open Odin
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons. Volume up next)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to PDA slot (only file named .tar.md5)
Leave Autoreboot and F. Reset checked.
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes.
You phone will finish and should reboot.
1st boot takes a while (about 5 EARTH minutes) then you should get the 'activate' process.

It worked but after initial reboot I found that my wifi no longer works everytime I go to turn it on I get a security message any suggestions?
go into system settings>about phone and check your baseband (it's the modem/firmware) if it doesn't match (it should say NC6) the build version then you may have to re-flash.
Also have you made sure to upate your PRL AND Profile?
I have read a few posts abou this and it seems to actually be a Sprint issue.
Just ODIN back to stock NC6. That should do it.

Why, why would you make another thread thread just for your WiFi problems when two users have already give you answers/options. You asked the question at 3:38pm and waited 12 mins to 4:00pm and decided to make a new thread. It clogges the forum up.

Because I didnt feel it was right to depend on that ONE guy who had already helped me once AND i'm putting in the correct tags so when other people have the same issues im having this same thread will pop up and they will have they're answered already here thanks to you guys so it's actually less clutter if you see it how I see it! lol

Which one is NC6 again? The one the guy linked to up there ^ was the 4.4.2 and I was on 4.3 so yeah you guys were right I probably have different basebands. Is NC6 the 4.4.2? Im downloading the 4.3 as we speak but man those servers over there at samobile are bad right now :/

What exactly do I reflash? The same tar file that got me to 4.4.2?
Did you try to wipe caches after going back to stock unrooted.

Also I think that security message is from Knox which means that its detecting something on your phone. Possibly an app that requires root?

It is from Knox I found that out when I tried clearing cache/data on the security message and I even forced closed it then tried wi-fi and no luck.
go into stock recovery and factory reset.
Then after booting up shut down completely.
Then boot to recovery.
Reflash the .tar (follow previous proceedure)
And see if the baseband/modem is properly updated this time.
I read that some people, after taking the latest OTA (the same as the .tar) have had to go back to sprint to have them fix it - most likely just flashing the modem.
That being said since there are some (read many) people having this issue with NC6, you can always try to Odin the NAF .tar and see if all works.
Then if you want try and take the Sprint OTA (via system settings>more>updates and check there.
I think my Device is bricked now
I followed the method which leaderbuilder said and now I believe my phone is bricked. It won't boot into recovery anymore. When the phone is turned on it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again." But when I open kies it says my device is not supported. Someone help me please. :crying:

I can do that but it'll be a little while. I already have system.ext4 and cache.ext4 converted and extracted as well as the modem, patch, and kernel, etc. There are a few other mbn partition files which only odin can process so i assume you don't need those or do you?

I'm not sure about those but mainly the ones you listed already
I know it's a little late but I uploaded two bone stock BOB7 roms in my other development thread. Deodexed and odexed. Either one should do what you need. Sorry i got busy working on those roms and forgot to get back to you. I hope you found what you need with one of those roms. The system files are not modified in any way. Use with confidence.

When you say, your computer says "not responding," how much time has passed, from when you first select the .tar file, until you try to flash it, to your phone?

For me, Odin would hang for a couple of minutes too. It should kick in within a few minutes don't panic, just give it some breathing room
