[Q] Samsung S5 SM-G900G Battery Life - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Forum users i have Samsung S5 SM-G900G octa core 1.30
Problem is when i charge it with DC 5.0V -2.0A
it charge's fast and battery life is approximately 12 h and even without working anything and WIFI & 3G off it drops so fast..
But when i charge it with DC 5.0V -1.0A (my s4 adapter) i have battery life 50% longer..
so can anyone tell me what is your battery life in your s5 octa core or snapdragon?
if you have this problem i recommend to use s4 adapter it charge's slow but you will have large battery life.

Sure it's not a placebo effect you're experiencing? How many cycles did you make?

I'm facing similar issues.although I didn't try charging it using 1 amp charger.
I'll suggest u to wait for at least 5-6 discharge cycles.
And let me assure u , the battery life of snapdragon version will be better than the octacore on any day. We cannot help it but accept and make our peace.

I think that must be quite obvious. Saw that on YouTube in a review

Interesting enough, unfortunate that the reviewer did not show any battery stats to compare.
The S4 Exynos as a reference from what I read was unfinished and didn't really use the full potential of the underlying architecture.
I would guess that A15 cores at full speed would consume more power than Krait's but would provide better performance.
Also it's interesting that he's using the Snapdragon display model which does not have calls or messages functionality enabled (G900X).

[Q] [Kernel Test]4.20.2011 Which has better battery life?

Hey folks,
I am giving two kernels out to test. Don't worry, both are quite stable. However, I am looking at some different settings to see which gives better battery life. So, in an effort to avoid any "placebo effect" results, I am not saying which settings these are just yet.
What I am looking for, if you folks could be so kind as to check:
Battery life between the two.
Performance between the two.
Neither of these kernels are overclocked.
Please test using the same governor between both, preferably Ondemand.
Thanks!!!

I would love to help test, but I'd like to know if you have any good criteria for the testing. It's really hard to test something without any guidelines as maybe you end up using the phone more on one, or downloading or whatever, and both seem like 'moderate usage', but in reality they are quite different.
As a matter of fact, I'm having a hard time verifying the current draw on my phone, and knowing what is good or not good, in general.
Just use your phone as you normally would, for both.
Are these compatible with the new RRU?

Yes, any and all versions and ROMs.

Cool, I'll test both out for a day each and report back.
Kernel A has better battery life thus far here...
I get no 3G with A. That might be why battery life is better...B is fine.

How can you really tell how much better the battery life is in such a short amount of time to test?
This reminds me of a test that kmobs did back in the day for kernels on the nexus. Turned out that heavily undervolting the kernel has a negative impact on battery life. Where's jlevy at. I know he remembers.

Lol, that was quick. I'm thinking he wants testing to go a little more than 30 minutes with each.
I'll test out A for 12 hours and B for 12 hours, if you think that's suffiecent. That should get me through a full charge on each.
Should be sufficient.

That's correct. Stock voltage for the Nexus One was 975mV. Kmobs found that undervolting below 950mV had negative impacts on battery life.
Do i have to clear battery data everytime i switch kernels?

Try it yourself, charge your phone and before taking it off the charger you will still have thae last cycle details and graph in usage..
And if you look at the screenshot, it clearly says "Battery used by the display and backlight" .....

How do you get your Android OS to be so low. My note is always around 25% to 30%. Do you think I have something running that's draining my battery? I do know that I'm not getting anywhere near the battery life you guys are saying you are getting.

he could have disabled all animations, force-closed processes, etc.
I have bluetooth running eight hours a day, streaming music for four to five of those to it, at least three to four hours of reading massive PDFs (textbooks), ppts, and word documents, WIFI on whenever available, etc.
I've gotten 10-13 hours without too many issues. The 10 was with a LOT of screen time, wifi or data running always, and bluetooth running always.
It also depends how you charge your battery. I make sure to fully charge my battery, and then run it into the GROUND (eg note powers off completely) before I plug it back in. Every time. You get maximum capacity that way, there's a name for this, but I can't remember what.
Anyway, battery 101. Kill processes, disable unneccesary services, use WIFI when you have it, disable everything you don't need, disable sync if you want/need to, disable gps, animations, and especially use minimal screentime. I don't see why the note wouldn't pull at least 36 hours if it was left in airplane mode the whole time.
Actually I was just watching movies and listening through bluetooth, thats why I don't have other processes eating my battery but I didn't do anything special..just straight 6 hours of watching movies using mobo player..
But I noticed that using mobile data to surf the net would drain my battery faster, so try to use wifi whenever available..
Everything about my setup is stock, only de-odexed to manually install my language..
Also noticed that when my phone left idleing, there will be Android OS drain in my battery usage, wigh "suspend" and "events0" showing in BetterBatteryStats but I still didn't figure out how to solve that..

[Q] battery life comparison exynos vs snapdragon?

Are there any comparisons of the two cpus available on the s4 when it comes to battery life? Thats the only reason for me to try to get an exynos version if its shows to be better in that respect.
Yeah, that's a good question I want to know the answer too, there are many people having testing devices but they are too hungry about testing the damn processor and gpu instead testing properly the battery life. -_-

With wich cpu? Also no comparison to the other version mentioned here.
I'm not convinced, even with S3 you can spend all the battery juice in 3 hours if you want. To do a proper test you need to leave the device doing the same job like an Snapdragon S4 during the same time.

Octa has a longer battery life than SD600.
That's why samsung used 8 cores technology.
And by the way the 5inch HD screen saves power too for both version

Thaty what one hears, yes.
However I would like some actual test reports - for instance how long does the phone last for web browsing, for video playback and on standby?
I would like to see actual numbers.
As for the screen:
It is said to use 25% less power compared to previous amoled display generations. However that 25% value is something we have to trust samsung on I think, at least I have not seen any actual tests on power consuption of the display alone and it's probably not easy to test.
The way they have managed the display to consume less power is to use use phosphorescent instead of fluorescent green diodes, which use way less power. Until now they could not produce the green ones with an acceptable lifetime. The red ones have already been phosphorescent, and the blue one are still fluorescent since they are hardest to produce.
See here for some further details: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...een-PHOLED-screen-tech-but-what-is-it_id40715

This. This so many times over.
So many people are parroting the "Exynos will have better battery life" thing but this really remains to be seen.
If the better battery life is in exchange for crippled A7 performance at inconvenient moments then it's useless. If better battery life isn't available for when you're using intensive apps then it's also useless.

Found amother bug (Wifi)

I came across this bug earlier today and just tested it out for the past hour or so. When the phone is on WiFi it heats up twice as fast and gets hotter than it would have just on mobile data. Depending on how many bytes your phone is transferring will depend on how hot it gets which is why some of you are experiencing freezes/reboots when updating multiple apps at the same time through the play store.

Jeepers, what the heck is up with Qualcomm? The 810 was a disaster, and now you guys with the 820 have been posting all kinds of issues, I really feel for you guys.
Are you on 2.4ghz or 5? I noticed on 5ghz the battery drains very quickly, the speeds and wall penetration is nice though.

I guess. I'm just lucky or not as picky. Zero lag. Battery gets me 6 to 8 hours sot a day over 18 to 24 hours. No heat issues.
I've had the g2, g3, nexus 6, Droid turbo, galaxy s6 and this. Best phone I've ever used. With out question.
My only complaint so far is slow motion on the camera can be choppy and skip frames.
Million sold bound to be some Duds, I'm just glad mine wasn't one of them. Or I was and I'm too naive to see it. In which case I would say ignorance is bliss LOL

First 2 days mine was poor. But that was because I used smart switch to get everything from my S6. Then I realised battery drained fast. So I hard reset the phone again and installed all over. Just copied the video's and pics afterwards. Now the battery life is great. I don't know the screen on time because I keep the battery between 30% and 80%. But still I start use it at 80% and at the end of the day it is around 30%.

What theme is that?
I just got 43 hours total and 6.5 hours of SOT.
Best power efficiency I've ever seen in a phone.
Also read something online that the battery should retain about 95% of charge after a year of use. Hopefully this holds up!!!
