Blown speaker??

I use my phone as mp3 player for traveling and yesterday my speaker has a lot of static headphone Jack also plays music same way.
Nothing has changed but the nightly. Cm7

Headphone jack shouldn't be affected if the external speaker is blown.
Did you by chance change any settings in the DSP Manager?
Nothing with dsp complete wipe then reflash problems still there

Are you saying it sounds blown in the main speaker as well as in the headphones? If so then I would try to narrow it down.
Try a different set of headphones to see if they sound blown. Try flashing a Sense rom and see what it sounds like.
I had to replace my speaker in my EVO because it was blown... so it is very likely. It is an incredibly easy process so I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just order one and throw it in there~
It sounds same I play through all my car maybe new speaker will solve issue with headphone Jack

I don't think it's your speaker if it sounds the same in your headphones/car.
When my speaker was blown, everything sounded fine in my headphones.
Where did you get the speaker from? I think mine is also blown.
via EVO.

Ebay
I replaced mine. It voids warranty to replace it, I had to use the foam off of my old one - if you do it carefully pry the clear plastic from the speaker with a fingernail and transplant. I found the foam being to thin caused the speaker to make bad connection with the board.
The new speaker fixed my phone BUT the sound was normal through headphones always.

Where is microphone?

Where is the microphone locate on Iconia A500? It didn't mention in the manual handbook.

As far as I can see (and have read elsewhere here on xda-dev) it is located in the middle on the front between the glass and metal (on the opposite) side from the dock-connector (also in the middle).
I just ordered the orig. a500 case from acer shop, but there is mentioned that it lacks a hole just where the mic. is located... I'll update the other post (in accessories) to confirm this...
But now you know where mic. is... And you should be able to see the tiny hole between the bezel and metal is you look close enough

same for me, the hole is covered by the glass and almost invisible
The microphone is there -see picture- i53.tinypic.com/jl1cmf.jpg
Sorry I can't link yet, because I didn't post enought... first post
Thanks alot!
I have purchased the Acer cover for mine and there are three holes in the back center top that expose the seam of the SD slot so I assume the mic in in there just did a spectrum/waveform test and it is stronger on the front than the rear. Go figure.
Well, I have myself a mod of sorts to try now >
According to the statement about the rear mic. I located a photo from one of the teardown articles. Clearly the mic is in fact blocked by the case itself so I'll pop the sucker open and gently dremel a hole to unblock it and see if the difference is measurable. If not there has to be SOME improvement right? Given the type of connector it shouldnt be too hard to replace it with a better quality device.
Be interested to see how you make out. My mic is terrible, very quiet. The voice recorder app barely registers when i try to record anything, the needle hardle deflects at all.
I am thinking about opening it up and checking to see what is happening but not sure how to go about cracking open the case, anyone seen any vids on this?

Please report back with your results. I too am curious how the tablet will be affected.

PERMANENTLY fix your "blown" speaker

First off this could break your speaker, do this at your own risk.
I have tested this on 2 EVO's with completely "blown" speakers, they both now sound absolutely perfect. From what i can tell, it's a lot of built up metal shavings, they weigh the speaker cone down and prevent it from making the true desired frequency.
You will need a earth magnet, or a really strong regular one will do i guess,(I used a earth mag tho)
First issue: you have to take the phone apart, from there, remove speaker,
(has been covered on youtube so go a lookin)
Now.. take the speaker, sweet diagram huh?(its late) and drop it, foam side down, from about 3 or 4 inches onto the magnet. Repeat. You will see the shavings coming off the speaker and sticking to the earth magnet.
Do it for a few minutes or until the metal shavings are all gone.
Re-assemble, click your favorite player and enjoy!!
I will try to get a tutorial on youtube soon..
u might wanna add a disclaimer as some waterhead is gonna do this and toast their evo!

Done..Thanks and sorry.
Why not since you have it apart and risk damaging the speaker by screwing up the polarity of the speakers magnet just drop in a brand new speaker. They can be picked up for a few bucks.

Im on my third speaker in a year, and who want's to wait two weeks for the speaker to get from china? Did another friend's this am, zero problems. I can see where you would think this may cause a problem, but it doesn't, Sound is restored to perfect.
Just trying to pass on what has worked 3 times for me. I would prefer fixing rather than replacing, i assume others would too.
I see this all the time at my store, especially those who work outside and around machinery.
Had one guy blow 3 in two weeks before we finally sat him down and explained in detail exactly why it was doing it before he finally wised up.
just take it to sprint they will replace it for free and do it right there
Assuming you have not disassembled it and broke the seal, and you have a warranty, and you live near a store that does service work. But besides that, yeah spot on.

I work on Evos with broken screw seals. For the average customer, it means they've had it worked on before and the sticker wasn't replaced.
Thanks so much. after having the evo over a year and putting it on my work bench. I never thought about the metal shavings from screws getting in. Works as new
i'll give this a try soon.
This is a cool post but I really do see in the near future some idiots ruining their phones trying to open it up and pulling the speaker out

Does this work for the earpiece speaker? My earpiece speaker just started buzzing and I can't understand what anyone with a deeper voice is saying at all.

I don't see why it wouldn't, obviously the idea is that the earth magnet is WAY stronger than the speakers magnet allowing it to pull away the shavings, give it a shot and report back!

Just wanted to point out that unless the speaker is part of a matched pair, reversing the polarity of the magnet will not affect the sound...

Well it will change the entire dynamics of the intended design... therefore changing frequency, depth, and volume. Speakers are designed to push... not pull. If they pull, it will more or less push the sound into whatever it's housing is.

Oh my... what kind of language is that??
Anyways, replacing the ear speaker is very easy task. Just be careful with the flexes, especially the LCD and touch Flex(large copper foil in the bottom underneath the PCB) is sticked together on the inner frame, you'll have to take it out, be slow and do not to anything harsh and with force.
PS.
If you accidentally will put a finger on LCD or touch panel... use a simple scotch (The liquid one for cheering yourself up, and the tape for removing the oily fingerprints )
no you only have to replace the speaker, but like i said it didnt make any difference to my phone so not sure if it would to any other, i just put the old one back in , and i didnt take the lcd fully out , i just seperated the lcd from the digitizer enough to access the speaker ( was afraid i broke it , which would kill me inside lol) then just replaced it, easy enough

it was originally a contract so its now out of warranty, i knew about speaker problem before i bought it, and the guy i got it from said it was like that from day one i dont make a lot of calls so not really fussed just would be nice if it was fixed

Need a replacement earpiece, no sound..

My 9 mo. old son slobbered all over my phone today, his spit/saliva went through every hole possible, immediately i tested every function and only the earpiece stopped working, by earpiece i mean I can not hear anyone when on the phone, unless of course i plug in head phones OR put it on Loud Speaker.
I've seen a ear piece sell for $20 on ebay
not sure if this is the right part though
maybe someone who's replaced this can chime in?

Looking to repair this and resell it
replaced it with a HTC One
anyone?
That is the correct earpiece for the N4. I can confirm this because I have two spare earpieces somewhere in my closet. Just in case you didn't know you will need a T5 torque screwdriver and small Philip screwdriver to open the device.

Lucky, want to sell one? Curious as to why you would have 2 N4 earpieces laying around
Yes i already have it opened up, took the shield off and try airing it out with a air can hoping to dry up the moisture or something.
my vibration also stopped working
