[THEMING] Do-it-yourself theme with Xposed module XBlast Tools - Nexus 5 Themes and Apps

If you are on stock ROM like me, we have no theming engine that makes life sweet for us. Instead we are stuck with Googles vision for the most part. Except if you are willing to root your phone and install some modifications.
I have found that the XBlast module for Xposed framework is pretty powerful on its own and I have created myself a little theme with it and thought I could share my findings if anyone else wants to do it. The things you need I will list below but I won't write how to install it. And I'm just going to write down how I did to make it look like in my screenshots. You are of course free to experiment with your own look.
What you need:
-Xposed Installer
-XBlast Tools
-Unicon (optional)
OK so let's start by opening the XBlast Tools app. Let's start with setting the background for the system. Download the attached file from the bottom of this thread.
-In XBlast Tools, go to "visual tweaks -> Holo Theme ->Dark Theme". Enable it and chose the background you downloaded from here.
-Do the same for "Light Theme" too. Some apps will use it.
Now back out of "Light Theme" and stay on the "Holo Theme" page. Now we will set some text and other colors to match the light background you've just chosen.
-Set Primary Text Color to #ff797979
-Set Secondary Text Color to #ff545454
-Set Divider Line Color to #1d000000
-Set Pop-up & Dialog Color to #ffe8e8e8
It's important to not set the primary text color too dark, because it won't be visible on the Settings app header next to the icon where the background will remain dark. So we have to keep certain balance so its visible on both darker and lighter backgrounds. This also changes the text on the dialogs & popups so we had to also brighten those backgrounds otherwise the text is hard to see as both text and background will be dark. Also some menu text in the Gallery app for instance is affected by this also.
The secondary text color is used in the titles for the different settings categories. But also removes some of the Holo Blue texts seen in titles in dialogs for example. It also affects the frontpage of Tapatalk I've noticed. So you'll notice if you set this color way off.
Now in the XBlast Tools app again:
-In Visual Tweaks, go and change the Settings Icon Color, which naturally affects the icons on the settings page. I made them white myself. They could be black also but I wanted them white so they match the white icons that are still in the dialog windows that I can not change. So for the sake of consistency I wanted it this way. This is also why the dialog background color isn't set to all white. The icons would not be visible.
Now for the notification panel. I've tried to make it somewhat original. I have not really seen this look anywhere else before and it feels a tad bit different from the standard. There is no clear "edge" when pulling it down since we are dealing with gradients and it gives a nice little touch. Go to Notification Panel in XBlast Tools.
-Put the master switch ON.
-Set Notification Title Text Color to #ffffffff
-Set Notification Content Text Color to #ffffffff
-Set Notification Background Color to #00000000 (fully transparent)
-Set Notification Pressed Color to #10ffffff
-Now go into the Notification Header menu. Enable it and set the color fully transparent here too (#00000000).
-Back out and go into Notification Panel Bg. Enable "Notification Background Color" and set it to fully transparent (#00000000).
-Back out again and check the Hide Handle Divider Line.
Now it's time to back out to the frontpage of the XBlast Tools app. Scroll almost to the very bottom and you will see a "Gradient Settings" menu. Dive into that one. Enable it on the main switch at the top and check the "Notification Bg Gradient Color".
-Set it to #f10080ae
-Make sure "Bottom to Top" is set in the "Gradient Orientation" menu at the bottom of that page.
Reboot your phone and enjoy the changes.
Optional: install the Unicon module and apply an icon pack with it. It does not only change it for the launcher but also systemwide. The icons will be affected in dialogs and other places too. Much more powerful.

Wow, just wow. Thanks for sharing! :good:

Thanks for sharing this :good: However, I hate to be that guy, but I followed the instructions to the T and mine didn't come out exactly like the screenshots; my system UI is still dark and the pull down drawer is clear. I changed the gradient color to the light blue, but it didn't stick as seen in one of my screenshots. Can anyone please help me out?

Seems a bit odd. Have you tried applying both the Holo Dark & Holo Light background again? And also the gradient color? Otherwise it seems you have some other issue making them not stick for some reason. Their pages should look like this in XBlast.

OK. I have the system background now. I made the mistake of choosing the image with a file explorer app and instead used Gallery to do so. As for the gradient color, I haven't the slightest clue as to what I've done wrong. I repeated the steps but with no success. I provided screenshots in hopes of you possibly seeing what I did wrong.

Ah. I think I made a mistake in the guide! On the "notification panel bg" page.
It's no image as I said. Check the color selector instead and set it to fully transparent. That should do it.
Will change the guide. Thanks.

It all works for me, except the pull down notification is clear instead of the blue that you show.

The same happened to me. He mistakenly left out one small step. On the "notification panel bg" page, check the color selector and set it to fully transparent. You should be good now.

[Theme] JAMT - Just Another Minimal Theme (CM7)

This theme has been revamped and is now available on the market for use with the T-Mobile Theme Chooser. Click here for info
There are some shortcomings with the theme engine so eventually I will be releasing the themes for Oxygen etc, but I am focusing my efforts on porting the theme to CM7 first
...presenting
JAMT
with
Smooth Animations
and
Customisable Lockscreen Backgrounds
for OpenDesire 4.0.35-.37, DeFrost 6.1 and Oxygen
I started off wanting a minimal theme for my desire and really liked some of the flat minimal widgets available, but all the status bars had gradients and reflective icons.
So I thought I'd make my own! I packaged them so you can have the flat icons with a gradient bar or not, there is a white and black set.
All icons are original, although obviously inspired by other icon sets.
This has taken a lot of work by me, please consider a small donation in consideration of my time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oxygen
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Metamorphs aren't working for my theme in Oxygen, I continuously get bootloops. I've made 12 flashable zips which should cover most options.
Oxygen information here
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Granular Theming
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Want black lockscreen with a white bar? Want grey bar with stock lockscreen?
Check out this post for how to customise the theme even more with metamorph.
Many of the metamorphs are now incompatible with this these themes do to differences in framework. If there are any serious issues let me know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Change Lockscreen Background
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The file /framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/lockscreen_bg.png is now the lockscreen background. The default should just be transparent black, however it is possible to change it using methods outlined here and here.
Please keep discussions about the lockscreen wallpapers here. This thread should be about the theme.

Smooth animations
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battery discharging, battery charging and syncing as below. I will not as a percentage mod as you can turn this on within the settings of OD (Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > User interface > Status Bar > Battery percentage).

Instructions

* Download your desired theme (white/black, lock/no-lock)
* Download the XMLs.zip and extract it to your SD card. The folder "CMTheme" should now be created and contain 4 xml files.
* Flash the theme zip (not the XMLs.zip) as you would a rom through clockwork mod
*Zips are not signed - ensure signature check is disabled
Choose your desired variant (flat or gradient)
Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > User interface > Tweaks extras > Select a theme.
Just remember you can only swap between gradient and flat, to change colour you need to flash the update.zip.

This is the graphite lock-screen. The only issue with this is the bars get drawn when there is an incoming call. As per this post To fix this you will need to flash this file in recovery. Took a lot of playing around with this to get it working but I think it's worth it.

Any feedback/suggestions are appreciated. If anyone would like to port this theme feel free to. I can try and help, but like I said. I make pictures.
Modded Google Search and Genie are attached here until I start A thread with other modded widgets, these are no longer updated as I don't use them.
Thanks to adamG and the team for Open Desire, some icons in screenshot (not status bar) by chrfb
Thanks to jercik for the Smooth Sense framework. It directed me on animating the icons.
Any donations are greatly appreciated and will help me continue modding (instead of studying for exams!!!), so if you like my work please consider it.

If you have time, would appreciate if you mod it to make the weather icon just sprightly bigger (like 2% bigger in size) when it shows next to the news flash. I mean when I put a widget and opt "News & Weather".
Thanks.
Does it look b+w on the screen?
i mean if the widget on the screen is not activated?

I will look into it, it could definitely use a larger weather icon.
I've nearly finished my first attempt at black and white status bar icons - still not 100% happy but here is a flashable flat black(no gradient) status bar and simple B&W icons for Open Desire 4.0.15.
There seems to be some issues with the Google Search Mod on my phone - I will need to tweak it a bit and post an update.
Thanks for feedback and comments!!
Love the Genie and search, thanks alot.

EDIT:
Installed the bar mod on my OpenDesire 4.0.23 ... but the bar background stays somewhat white. Shouldn't be black ? Icons on bar are fine, white and exactly as in your screenshoot. Only bar and notifications background are missing.
maybe we need an .xml file for the correct colors?

XML file is attached to first post in a zip which needs to be manual unzipped and placed in /CMTheme/ folder of SDcard.
Got it working.
Simple, beautiful. I really hope this will work with future releases of OD, because I'm already addicted
Great work!
Though I cant see the download link with xda app i just noticed. My old genie (taken from you) broke with the .27 OD update. I'll download when i get home.

I still need to make/fix some icons.
Can anyone confirm if this is working on 4.0.28 (stable) or not?

[THEME] Gingerbread for Defrost 6.1a, CM 6.1.1 and Oxygen 1.0.4 AOSP (4/1)

Gingerbread for Defrost 6.1a, CM 6.1.1 and Oxygen 1.0.4 AOSP
For those still running Froyo I’ve created a theme that replicates the stock gingerbread look.
This has taken me a long time to compile and maintain. It was not as simple as copying files from one APK to the other; it required xml editing, icon design and much probing into the gingerbread SDK to find all these files to bring you the most accurate Gingerbread look.
If you use this and like this please donate.

Instructions – not for Metamorphs
You have to be rooted to install these custom roms – if you are not rooted head to XDA and they should be able to help.
I can only support ROMs for the HTC Desire, however the Cyanogen(MOD) framework is very similar across the board. I believe porting to other HDPI devices is not hard and you are free to attempt this with these files.
Download the desired files to your SD Card, if you are on Cyanogen(MOD) or DeFrost you will also need to place the Colour config file “Gingerbread.xml” in /sdcard/CMTheme/
As with all flashable zips a NANDROID backup is recommended.
Flash the *.zip file either with ROM Manager or through recover as you would a ROM. You do not need to unzip these files.
Reboot the phone
If using Cyanogen(MOD) or DeFrost you will need to apply the colour theme (Settings > CyanogenMod settings > User interface > Tweaks extras > “Select Theme” > “Gingerbread”)
Enjoy your Gingerthemed Froyo
Instructions – for Metamorphs
To use the Metamorphs you need to have you desire S-Off’d and you must download Metamorph from the Market. Once you have this it’s pretty straight forward.
If you don’t have S’Off or can’t get Metamorph to work you can merge the files from a Metamorph into a theme (framework-res.apk) and then flash the theme through recovery.
I hope to write a tutorial on how to do this some time in the future.

Hello There!
I really like this new look, however I think there are a few things wrong.
First, the notifications bar is a really dark black in 2.3 (I have looked at the pictures and tried the GingerNinja ROM) while this is more grey.
Second, the headset icon (I know that you cannot do anything about it since you only have the SDK and not the source code)
I think that's about it..
As I said, I really love this, and I greatly appreciate the effort you have made to port this! I'd love to see some more of it.
Have a nice day/night Gas!

I've taken the notification bar from the SDK and various screenshots (see arstechnica for example). I can resize and grey out the headset icon which I will look at doing tomorrow.

As I said in an earlier post i LOVE this theme =) But i got a queston. Mine doesn't looke exactly like the screenshot I'm posting n image to show what i mean, on the right side is the screen shot and on the left is what mine look like, dunno if its maybe because I'm using CM power widget in notif... bar?
Also it looks like the alarm icon got and extra pixel on the top right side or something

Looking great. For some reason the keyboard keeps force closing but it's not a problem as I was going to switch to the HTC one anyway but might be something you want to look into. On a HTC Desire with DeFrost 6.1 if it helps. Anyway, keep up with the good work, can't wait to see what it looks like once it matures (or until CM and Defrost release a 2.3 ROM )
EDIT: It appears a second Android Keyboard has been installed as 2 of them appear on my apps list, one is 168KB and the other is 304KB, the 304KB one has a version number of 2.3 so I assume that it's yours. Might see if I can find a way to uninstall the stock one.

^ leaked stock android music player (v2.3.0b5) (dsp manager works fine)
The ideas behind a "Completely White Theme/UI" for CM7 are:[/B]
<<<Note: white theme meaning= white backgrounds with black text>>>
- in a case of ordinary mobile phone use, the screen is the biggest energy consumer.
- TFT LCD technology implies that white backgrounds are more energy efficient than black backgrounds.
- a white background takes 100% advantage of the screens luminosity, thus it is easier to use in direct sunlight.
- in general use, a black text on a white background is more friendly to the eyes (higher contrast and easy to read).
- in low light conditions, the screen can be used at a lower/minimal brightness rate, thus saving battery life without affecting visibility.
The only white theme for MDPI devices is JAMT White gradient.
The "donate" version includes a white dialer and white statusbar/notifications.
My humble request: a theme with white background for settings menus/music player, and white background widgets.
I have added a poll, so that developers/themers can see if this ideea has potential.

Here's the best white theme I could find

@DaxElectro
Here's what I mean: completely white UI (Settings menu, Music player, widgets, etc.)
I'd also like to see this. Something like a MIUI theme for the theme chooser. I'd rather have just the theme from MIUI and the behavior of CM7.
I also LOVE the direction that the white gradient JAMT theme is going in, but a system-wide version. Menus, toast notifications, etc.
i would do it if i had the time -.-

There's a white theme.
It would be really cool if you could mod the Music Player and maybe the widget backgrounds.
I will update the first post with more info.

First, it's tough for me to give you an answer for you first question. You must be aware that the "battery life" improvement is small. In my opinion and judging by the light use of brightness, you can save up to a maximum of 5% (?!). I repeat, this is only my opinion; i haven't made any tests.
Second, the text IS much more easier to read "in bright sunlight".
But then again, there's a need for improving the theme above.
Long story short: i've used my phone with minimum to 1/3 brightness level (indoors) and only 2-3 times 2/3 level of brightness (outdoors).
If you really want to know the differences of black/white backgrounds, then do the following:
- read your sms messages (medium brightness). I'm assuming you have the default black background.
- change the background to white (in messages app/settings) and read some more sms. CM7 message app has settings for background white/black.
Any differences?
Thanks for the long reply,
1. Ok, lets push aside the battery issue.
2. I'm on custom gb, but I tried surfing through xda app (white background) and indeed it provide better texts visibility.
Hrm... will try the rom once I have good internet connection and try this cm7 based rom and other rom based on it.
Lazy to change baseband...

Nice theme, thx. Can you change the color of the auto brightness checkbox to the same in the notifications panel?
Great theme so far, could I suggest that you colour the notifications, the auto-brightness button to match the rest of the design as well?
Also could you change the volume background to not be transparent but instead the same colour as the settings app background please?
Another thing I'd like if possible, is to theme the default keyboard as well. Would be awesome if you could, thanks.
(Mate 9 user)
I think that's the best theme for mokka gold & gold users...especially if you change icons with icons from "Luxury" them (from Huawei theme app) you will get perfect mokka gold result... If it's possible change the auto brightness check box color into gold like all the others in notifications panel and the 2 sim call buttons from green to gold just like you did in message app (when you choose from which sim you will send the message)!!!
The only thing that I don't like is in Stock mail app when you open a mail the blue background color...
It will be great if you have kept it white...or something like light gold.... No... No... gold because if you want to choose & copy a text from a mail then the "choose" background will be gold again and it will be a problem... So probably white color as original
Thanks for the great work...
About auto-brightness button - haven't found so far a way to change it Every theme i saw has this blue checkbox.
Email app - i personally don't use it, but it will look closer and try to fix it.

Please port for custom Roms.
Wow. Can you make compatible for substratum please. Many more are waiting for it on custom roms.
+1 for EMUI 4 version. It works on emui 4,but in certain apps the colors of the font and the background are kind of broken and its hard/impossible to read the text. Also some apps arent themed as in the screenshots, notification bar and quick settings too(obviously since they were entirely changed in emui 5).

Great job?
bugs:
Permissions, voice control, battery, network messages sections in settings are white.
There is few blue elements, like for example "auto" selection near brightness slider in notification panel.
Also few tips:
Lower slightly brightness of inactive icons in notification panel and inactive buttons(those smaller sliders with white dot in settings), just a little bit, because in direct sunlight its hard to see if its on or off.
And maybe dim a bit icons in settings to fit main icons?
Beside that perfect theme! Nice work.
Still I would love to see the same theme just with few red addons(i just like red... )

The desat pixel icons are nice too. Again, nice work man. Keep it up!
Personally I'm waiting for more updates to Red Planet though, as I'm more a red-black kinda guy.
Love the dark clean look, great job!
Two suggestions: the status bar toggles seem a little hard to differentiate which toggle is on and which is off, maybe if you manage somehow to sharpen the contrast between on and off would be amazing.
The other suggestion or maybe just a personal preference so do as you see fit, i would've liked the icons to be more colorful, not so faded. Love the theme thank you for your work

Request for version with default notification shade
Hello, I love the [THEME] Paint It Black for EMUI 5 (black, white accent, last updated 21/02/2017)
But I would like to have the blue in the notification shade icons. If it is at all possible, please release a version where the notification shade hasn't been modified and the messages that appear on the bottom of the screen (like the ones with the circular loading spinner) do not have a white border?
Thank you so much for the theme.
Keep up the great work!
