Official Tether/Hotspot Thread - Sprint Galaxy S 5 General

[NATIVE WIFI HOTSPOT]
REMEMBER TO DONATE TO THE DEVELOPER WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE @miked63017, IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT ATLEAST SEND HIM A THANK YOU.
Thanks to @miked63017 CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD FLASHABLE ZIP
After you download the zip place it on the main folder of your !!! INTERNAL !!! sd card.
FLash the Zip in custom recovery,, I can confirm this recovery works well
If you update PRL you will need to reflash the zip again
After reboot your native hotspot should work
[BLUETOOTH]
I can confirm Bluetooth tethering works with Foxfi/PDAnet but your limited to around 1.4 mbps, download 'Foxfi for sprint' from the playstore, download pdanet for your computer and set it up. Turn on Bluetooth dun in foxfi, right mouse click on pdanet icon on start bar in windows and select 'connect internet Bluetooth'
[WIRED TETHERING]
Tethering via cable works with Foxfi as well at Full Speed(you must have pdanet installed on your computer as well
[WIFI WIRELESS HOTSPOT] [Alternative Method] requires no system mod just root.
Download 'WiFi Tether Router' from play store (COSTS 2.99 BUT WELL WORTH IT)
Use these settings

WHEN YOU FIRST CONFIGURE THE APP IT WILL WARN YOU ABOUT ANDROID 4.3/4.4 DO WHAT THE WARNING SAYS. IF YOU MISS THIS STEP YOU MUST UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL THE APP.
For Samsung Galaxy S5 using this config
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED
(IMPORTANT) Must have wifi turned on but not connected to a network when your first start the tethering app and enable hotspot
If it doesn't work for you then troubleshoot here at the original thread

I have tried searching through list of processes in TiBu and freezing a few to no avail, has anyone come across anything interesting. I think we need to figure out what app does the provisioning first. It seems like we could learn this from a few recently released Sprint phones that have a working hotspot mod..

Lots of good stuff in the non-specific gs5 threads...

Ya I purchased that app, there seems to be problems with consistency, it also is a much more streamlined process using built in tethering
(edit)
I've gotten app to work, will post clear instructions.

I have tried everything to no avail. Please tell me exactly how you got it to work on your Sprint GS5. Thanks

Have you bought the app "wifi tether router", some people just downloaded it off the internet and couldn't get it to work(which you shouldn't do), but the current play store version works so buy it and support the dev, also did you disable what the warning told you to disable when you first set up hotspot app, if not uninstall it and start over, and also you must have regular WiFi turned on on your phone and left on but not connected to any networks before you open hotspot router app

Im guessing the days of freezing one app and hotspot works are behind us.

Posted this in other thread too:
To get the native hotspot working, you need to:
update carriers set type="default,mms,dun" where apn="n.ispsn";
in the following file:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
This is what worked for me on Sprint North America. Just got it working today, was trying all the known tricks including rebuilding framework-res.apk with no luck. Be advised however I first used a sqlite app from the market and it added a space between mms and dun which did not work. I installed the sqlite3 binary and did that SQL command from adb shell. Can do more of a walk through if needed, let me know. I also did a few other things, and this is what I am assuming finally did the trick, if it does not work for you please let me know too

I am also new to Sprint, is it normal for the hotspot to cutoff when you answer a phone call? Never had that on verizon so was wondering.

The wife wants the hotspot on her s5 now too, going to have to root it first but made a flashable zip to unlock the hotspot entitlement thing in the meantime. Need to have root and flash this from recovery. I have tested this on my phone where I have already unlocked it manually, and I plan on testing it on my wife's, once she charges it and I root it. Please test and let me know, I will try to update it if anybody has any suggestions.

**UPDATE 2***
Removed zip from this thread, go here for the latest http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2727127
Doing that since I have made some updates its easier to manage in one spot.

For what its worth, I am only concerned with the wifi hotspot, but there are settings in the settings.db to enable bluetooth and usb tethering as well. I have not tested as I don't have a need for them, but if anybody is interested I can dig them up and add them to the zip for testing. Let me know...

The app "ES File Explorer" ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5lc3Ryb25ncy5hbmRyb2lkLnBvcCJd ) has a great feature that allows you to tether other devices...and works on stock unrooted so would assume it works on rooted devices.
Launch the app ES File Explorer > tools > net manager > Create a hotspot network
That's it.
Thanks guys I'm in hotel room now. I'll try them all.

I was about to install FoxFi and try it out on my S4 but wanted to know what type of connection worked for you using the Pdanet version... did you try the wifi option or usb/bluetooth? And did you try the FoxFi version first or you went straight with the Pdanet version?

Pdanet includes foxfi now. I downloaded that version from June fabrics and bought the foxfi key to give it the unlimited license. The key is in the App Store. I only tested with wifi hotspot as I have easy tether which does USB.. BT tethering is to slow for me to bother. I am rooted now and probably switching to Goldeneye so I probably won't need any tether tools.

Gotcha! I thought the Google Play warning message that PdaNet+ was not compatible with the galaxy s4 model actually had some truth behind it in that it really was not compatible and it would mess something up on the phone.
So Google Plays' warning message is just so that we won't install it... tricky!!! hahahaha!

[HELP]NO wifi hotspot toggle in settings - running MF9 - stock root

I have rooted my S4 and I have had many phones in the past and have rooted them as well so i am no noob in that arena. The only reason why I root is for the FREE WI-FI TETHERING and this time I have ran into a road block.
The steps that I have taken to correct this was to add a Wi-Fi hotspot toggle in the PULL DOWN NOTIFICATIONS, which didn't work, then I downloaded some files that had SERVICES.JAR AND SERVICES.ODEX and still nothing.
PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanx I'll get back to you when I have trIed these options.
I successfully rooted using towelroot and installed supersu. I also installed foxfi. It was able to get me past the mobile hotspot problem but still could not tether. It requested I install pd(something) On the computer first..Wil this always be the case? Can I not tether without installing that on the computer?
Also I have had to reset to factory settings because i happended to activate "talk back", the result was that the phone kept reading everything i touched but thats all it did meaning i could not select anything, not even switch off or do anything!! Not even unchecking talk back..instead it would read out loud "talk back" and the phone was hanging so bad ..another thing is the foxfi prompted for a password which then took over the screen lock. I went to screen lock settings to disable but the option of disabling was unavailable.
I have also noticed after trying to use the Light touch option that it works so terribly on 4.4.2. The whole screen un uniformly flashed pink at every touch in such a way that an epileptic would not survive the effects. I had to switch the phone off for this to be disabled as well. So there goes the woes of my Samsung galaxy s3 sch-I535 Verizon. Anyone able to address all my issues is more than welcome. Note: foxfi did not sort the tether problem. It sorted the hotspot though.

(QA) Flashing T-Mobile rom on Verizon Note 3 Retail WIFI Calling

Does anybody know or has had success flashing a t mobile rom, whether it be stock or customized rom, on a retail Verizon note 3?
I've read reports that flashing using Odin will brick...
But how about using safestrap.
The reason why I want to, is because I would like to completely switch over to tmobile from Verizon. But still keep my phone...
As well has anyone had experience with getting wifi texting/calling to work on a Vz Note 3 retail?
I wish for this thread to be a place where devs, users are able to share and maybe find a solution. Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated
I did flash a t mobile rom on my verizon note 3. I used safestrap. I was getting errors about wifi calling and it would give me a SIM card error every now and then. But over all it worked fine. Just add Verizon's data info in so your text messaging will work.
Cant get tmobile to work
Can someone please point me in the right direction........i am just trying to get my VZ note 3 to get tmo services to work, but no matter what i do, nothing works...
I have tried on the stock rom before rooting or anything following these steps listed in OP== NO DICE
I have rooted, installed safestrap 3.75 b4 and tried the steps again===NO DICE
I have installed a custom rom, specifically jasmine rom 2.0( which requires to flash the NC2 modem afterwards, which i did successfully) in hopes that that would help and====NOOOO DICEEEE
i can't access any service menu listed in this whole WEBSITE, none will work, not even an app from the play store that executes them....
I just keep getting that stupid INVALID SIM error and the bars indication stay blank and nothing happens.....WHAT THE #&@% AM I MISSING????
I HAVE NEVER RAN INTO SO MANY ISSUES BEFORE, im not a newbie in flashing stuff or anything like that, been using XDA since teh Windows Mobile days in HTC's prime, but this has be off the wall.
ANY HELP at all would be appreciated....since im the only asswhole that cant seem to have tmobile work on the VZ Note 3.......

Has anyone ever tried flashing the T-Mobile modem to activate the WCDMA 1700 band? Is that's what's needed to activate this band or is there more to it? I know wih LG devices, by flashing the complete software of a different carrier changes the band settings as well
I'm assuming no one has any interest in doing this? WCDMA 1700 is needed for HD voice for T-Mobile....

[Guide]How To Tether With No Root?

Step 0. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
And once installed search for "tether" and disable "tetheringprovision"
Step 1.You don't need this but it's safer to have it.
Download Foxfi http://foxfi.com and the license and once have all of that turn on hide tether usage.
(Once you get your tether going this will activate to hide your tether from the network providers)
Step 2. You don't need Internet but you need something that will showup as a wifi network such as a PS4 , Direct TV receiver, chromecast, a printer and more. Once you have these plugged in and running go to step 3.
Step 3. Go to your wifi enabler on phone and turn on the toggle for it to scan for wifi.
Step 4.Locate one wifi signal and press connect if ask for a password do a random pass and press connect
(Like on the PS4 signal it will popup saying wrong password and that's fine)
Step 5.Now that you set that random password it will try to connect as soon as you turn wifi on again so turn off wifi now and follow next step.
Step 6.Go into your mobile hotspot app and setup the name and password if so desire.
Now when ready toggle wifi direct to on and then quickly go up and toggle wifi on and keep pressing toggle hotspot on. And if done right it will come on.
Step 7.Enjoy mobile data hotspot! !
Don't turn off the wifi or wifi sharing or else it turns off the hotspot too… which im trying to find a work around for it…
Id be grateful if others could help research too.
Edit
Ive tried everything that I could think of to make a fake wifi signal but it all needs root which we don't have so.. O well then I'm still happy it works even though it is tedious.
Edit 2
A new find(I tested this and didnt work for me)
jtracker said:
Hey guys, just got an s8+ today and found out that the native hotspot will work if you pop sim tray out, it will then take you to lock screen, pull down tray and turn on hotspot. You may get an error saying no sim installed but just keep pushing hotspot button until it turns on. It is working on mine now.

Edit 3
Okay here's another way to get it to work but you need two phones and the one you use for this must have internet.
Okay so now I finally figured out how this works so here what you do:
Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kha.prog.mikrotik
1.To the phone you aren't using (turning this on the phone you're not using creates a wifi signal to the phone you want the hotspot app to work on)
2.Go on the phone now that you want to use the hotspot with and turn on wifi and search for the wifi signal that the phone used to create the signal.
3.type in a WRONG password and connect to it. (It will say wrong password which is fine now just click ok or cancel)
4.Turn off wifi and go to your hotspot app and turn on wifi sharing and quickly turn on wifi then start pressing the hotspot toggle until it connects.
5.Now you have the hotspot app on so you can turn the netshare off on the other phone and you should also be able to turn off wifi and wifi sharing and still have hotspot on!!

It does not trip Knox. I didn't even know you could change the color of the edge lighting, I looked quick but I didn't see any color options but I didn't ever check the ATT software either so not sure if you can change it or not.

Most definitely! Someone should make a post on this! I read about it over on the regular s8 forums in the SD research and development thread.

I did notice it does change color when you change live wallpapers, I switched to the orange/purple live wallpapers and it switched the edge lighting to orange, it was blue with the blue live wallpaper.

Another thing you can do is flash your phone with the Canadian firmware. I just did that and it removed all the att bloat and wifi tethering works with no modifications plus you have a bloat free rom. Lemme tell you, this is how the phone should have came, smooth buttery and no restrictions on basic functions.

Hello,
You have to use a modified version of Odin, it's called princecomsy version and that can be found with a quick Google search or a search on here. Download it and install it with admin rights.
You download the firmware which will be in a zip file. Creat a new folder and move zip to folder and extract the zip. Once extracted you will see 5 files. AP, BL, CP, CSC and CSC home. CSC file will wipe your phones data, if you use the HOME CSC you will retain your data but it's also considered a dirty flash, wiping everything and clean flash is always best.
Double click Odin to open it, you will see 4 slots with the same letters as the firmware you just extracted. Put each file in it's matching slot. The AP file takes a while to confirm once you put it in the slot so be patient.
Put your phone in download mode and then plug it into the computer with your USB cable. You will see device added and blue color rectangle with a port #, that means Odin is connected to your phone. Hit the start button and sit back, it takes a while to flash. Once it's done it will say pass and your phone will re boot to recovery then boot normally, first boot can take up to 5 mins (which seems like an eternity lol). Set your phone up and enjoy!

Thank you for the instruction, I will try to flash it tonight. But I have two more question:
First one is: which carrier's firmware I should use? I found the G955W firmware at https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/SM-G955W/, which one are you using?
Second question is: Is there any functional difference between this two firmware? will I able to go back to AT&T firmware if something goes wrong?
Again, thank you for your help:good::good::good:
You want the XAC firmware. You should download it from update.com as they're DL speeds are way faster than sammobile.
Yes you will be able to go back to ATT firmware. Only thing I've noticed is no video calling, volte and that's about it. You can get those things working but let's just get the firmware flashed for now :good:

I didn't notice the download speed...both are pretty slow, but I think I should be able to finish the download in one hour.
Edit...you are saying updato.com and I thought it's samsung-updates.com, I can download from updato.com with full speed! which only took me 7 mins.
Samsung pay problem
I've been running the Canadian rom on a at t 8+ it has been flawless. I'm trying to set up my gear s3 and Samsung pay. I'm getting a message unable to continue does not support your version on gear. It's a s3 and did work before I went Canadian. Any suggestions? I like the caller I'd but should I flash the us rom?
Thanks

I have no idea how to help because I didn't ever flash it because I didn't see that much that I would favor in, but maybe someone will be able to help you.

Have you tried clearing the app data and reinstalling the latest version? Or you could also uninstall the app, reboot and reinstall latest version.
XAC and XAA are pretty similar if ya ask me, they both run smooth, fast and battery life is great!

Does the Canadian fw have mobile hotspot? The hotspot that lets you draw off your regular data plan instead of the Wi-Fi hotspot that requires you to have home Wi-Fi network?
This stopped working from me since the last ATT update. Can someone confirm if this is still working?

I flashed the TMO firmware on my AT&T S8+. Then I used BK Disabler Pro and disabled all bloat plus com.qualcom.qti.tetherservice and Tethering.Automation. i then downloaded Nova Launcher and made sure enhanced LTE services was enabled and HD Voice Settings were enabled. Running AT&T SIM with unlimited plan , tethering working just fine but I had to manually ADB the toggle into quick settings as well as the MobileData toggle. I can't find Wifi calling anywhere but I am sure I can use Google Dialer/Voice to place calls over data. I have DirectTV and was able to watch Live TV in full HD no issue. I am pretty sure that there is no tethering provision from AT&T so with the exception of V4A, I pretty much have everything I want without root. Battery charges to 100% and lasts way longer than it did on SAMPWND with root charging to 80%. Anyway, just my experience.
My firmware version is G955WVLU2AQK7 which I got from Sammobile.
I just turned off Mobile Data and placed a call with Google Hangouts Dialer and another with Facebook Messenger over Wifi and both worked beautifully.
