Incoming call settings - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to turn off the setting where the contact name is announced on an incoming call? I can't find it
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

My phone doesn't do that. I've gotta believe that it's because I "turned off" "Caller Name ID"

Mmm I did the same, and I think that asks you if you want to add someone who you don't have... My phone is actually announcing who is calling and I can't figure out how to turn that off

Yes I did that, surprisingly, still was announcing the caller's name...I have no idea... If everyone else's s5 isn't doing that, and changing the settings doesn't help, then I've got to assume that something is faulty here...

The Verizon one...and no it doesn't... Well it does add contacts when they're not in my contacts already, otherwise it doesn't solve the problem I was having... I've already solved that, which you would have seen if you read the previous posts, it seems to be a bug where if you turn in voice answer and end calls, then it'll also turn on the talk back feature that verbally tells you who us calling

Google Voice is annoying...

I signed into Google Voice on my phone to check out what it was, then boom...it takes over my phone. I hit do not disturb because I think it'd revert everything back but instead it blocked all incoming phone calls/texts. So, I took Google Voice and signed out of it and now I have call screening (where I have to press 1 to accept calls) and I no longer receive texts...last I did was sign out then uninstall Google Voice. What the hell?
Running stock GRJ90 deodexed/rooted.
To completely disable it you have to sign into Google.com/voice and disable it in the settings

On another note, I use GV for voicemail and voip when I want. On the first install it took over my entire phone buy after changing settings online I got it set up the way I wanted.

<3 i think the your problem is that you integrated your number when you install it instead of continuing press skip and then it will ask if you want to sign in with your gmail and follow the steps i had the same problem do not integrate!!1!!ONE!!
I'm finally able to use Google Voice without it taking over my device. After you've removed yourself from the software. You can go to the GV settings via the internet on your computer and just choose activate voice mail instead of choosing to integrate your device. Once this is done, open up GV on your device, and the first window allows you to skip the integration portion and allows you to just use it as Voicemail. BOOM!

I'll try this lol. I've got like 12 voicemails and can't get to them because I don't know my Sprint voicemail PIN. LOL
Question for Sprint customers who are using their Sprint number for their Google Voice account; are your Sprint mobile to mobile or anytime minutes accurate when using Google Voice?
Reason, I have seen complaints on other blogs, pertaining to inaccurate minutes usage and wondered if any of you have experienced this.

[Q] Hacked Phone

I have a buddy who has a phone that was hacked. His GF has access to his Texts and Call logs. She even knows when he is resetting his phone as she sends him text messages telling him to make sure he does a good job wiping it... CRAZY
What is the root cause for this, how can it be prevented... and what exactly is she doing>?

I doubt any mod or program with or without root access can notify someone when they enter recovery to wipe their phone. Beside how would a phone be able send a sms while in recovery?

This should not be impossible to do with an app. Even with tasker, it is possible to create an app (app factory) that will have a trigger (sms sent or sms received or phone call received or phone call placed), and send a text to a predetermined number with details of the sent/received text or the tel# called. And these text messages can be set to not be stored on the phone.
Yes, I think this will work, because I have set my phone up with such a tasker profile (created an app from that profile, and hid it from the app drawer) - so that if my phone is lost, I can send it a specific text message, and it will respond back to me (at a predetermined phone# with GPS coordinates of the phone), without leaving a trace of the message with GPS coordinates on my phone.
It should be possible to change this to intercept any sms message (incoming or outgoing), and send that message to another phone#
Or, she may just have access to your buddy's service provider's account details (log in to the website, see incoming/outgoing call details easily)

Have him use titanium backup from the play store to back up his apps then have him factory reset his phone root stays then have him get his apps back through titanium backup.
Sounds kinda like cerberus. If your friend flashed the stock rom like mdc or mdl he should be able to remove the app. I know there is a setting to hide the app. And if he had root you can make the app non-removable. The only way to remove it is to flash the complete stock rom.

Verizon voicemail messages stop short

Just discovered an issue where once I select the voice mail message it starts playing as soon as I put the phone to my ear the screen flashes on and the voicemail stops playing - it'll play if I use speaker but not if I listen to it via the ear piece - it stops after a few seconds. Maybe proximity sensor issue?

Root cause of the issue possibly lies in how Nougat handles security permissions since there are reports from S6/S7/Note 5 owners with the same issues when they were updated to Nougat from Samsung. Visual VM app definitely needs updating.

Disabling screen off still has the VM bug for me - what works for me is if you leave Lock screen and screen off on but turn off Home SCreen. Bizarre I know.
I have the issue and don't have Samsung pay....
I disabled "Use Favorite Cards" lock screen and screen off only (Left Home Screen on) and it fixed it for me.

Enable RCS on SM-N9860 Note20 Stock Messaging App

If your carrier supports RCS, you can follow this video to enable it on your Hongkong / Taiwan Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
For those who don't know what RCS is, it's a feature where you can send original quality photos, video and other large supported files using your phones messaging app. It's like iMessage.

I'm fine using Android messages ? I hate how samsung messages looks honestly
Yeah, I simply don't like samsung messages because the screen lights up every time someone texts me. My kids have prying eyes. I know I can put a lock screen on, but it still lights up. I hate that.

You will be able to send uncompressed photos, videos and other large supported files thru the messaging app. It's like iMessage.

I'm very sorry for how this may sound..... BUT, you know you can change the "light- up" settings per each app in your settings right? Your phone doesn't have to light-up for each text message you receive, or any other app for that matter.
