[Q] firmware update - Galaxy Grand 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I wonder if there is anything different between firmware that release for each region. I got B2 firmware same as a lot of country but why India has C3.
Some country just get B2 recently but india got C3 for couples of month ago.
Anyone know what is exactly diffrent ? Is it because of hardware different example modem or because of some limitation of law in each country which might not allow samsung to include some applications.
Thanks

hey,
The company provides Firmware updates in order to patch or improve minor bugs in current firmware or to improve locale support.
other counties have eg. B2/B3 as they have a flawless running system so they dont need update.
in india there may be few errors in previous firmware, and other thing is, indian firmware contain many locales with different indian languages,
therefore to improve it, indian firmwares get updated!

Today i got an update, it's D1 now.
Indian Firmware

hmm,
the OTA firmware updates which are small (eg. from 7mb to 24mb or a bit higher) in size only contain the changed ver. of CSC branding and few USER un-noticeable changes..

KITKAT
God knows when we will have KITKAT, or not at all !!!!!
When I got the update pop up, I was hopng it was 4.4. but no. just 4.3 again.
schubeir

We probably wont get kitkat via an OTA update,
this is what "i" think...
because that update would be around size of 1 to 1.5GB in size therefore it would be released through Online servers of samsung or 'Kies' :-/

KitKat wont be coming in so small package. And yeah, it will be available through OTA only
Cos previously i had Note 2 with Android v4.1, so it had received 4.3 update through OTA only, and size was about 700 MB+.

What firmware version am I supposed to have?

Just bought the SGS a week ago. I reside in Norway and my operator is Telenor (if this is of any importance).
When I got it, the firmware version was (is) I900XXJF3. Seen a lot of talk about other versions, which might or might not require root to install.
Anyways, on my unrooted SGS, I get no updates in Kies (horrible application btw), so I wonder if this is how it's supposed to be, and also when the GPS-fix will be released. Will it be availible automatically from within Kies?

JF3 seems to be the default firmware most people are getting out of the box. So far there are no official firmware updates via Kies, however the website samsung-firmwares have published several newer firmwares which people are using. They do certain things like make the phone run faster/better memory management, bug fixes and some people claim to get better GPS. You can install them using a software called Odin.
From what I have gathered, there will either be some sort of intermediate firmware from Samsung in the near future, or we may not see any official firmwares until the Froyo update possibly in September.
My Galaxy comes with the firmware JF7 and I got mine from hong kong. There are news floating around says that Froyo will comes to the Galaxy S in August for the Korea market, follow by France maybe?

[Q] Help with latest stock firmvare for my S4, UK, BTU. Confused what is what...

Hi, I got S4 I bought it in UK 3 (three) network.
I am trying figure out what firmvare I am on, is it stock or three modified.
And if I can flash phone to any better never, so I can get updates faster.
Phone is simlock free
GT-I9505
4.2.2
I9505XXUAMDM
I uploaded screenshot from about menu.
Phone region in Kies says BTU
What I found and I am confused is this :
http://droidviews.com/2013/the-latest-xxubmea-firmware-update-for-galaxy-s4-gt-i9505-brings-major-improvements-features/
On that webpage its "United Kingdom (H3G): H3G-I9505XXUBMEA-20130601113653.zip"
where H3G is three network however I cant update by OTA or Kies, mine says I got latest.
So would it be safe and worth it to flash to "United Kingdom (H3G): H3G-I9505XXUBMEA-20130601113653.zip" ?
or better wait for OTA update, may b when three release it??
the other thing is, I dont see H3G-I9505XXUBMEA-20130601113653 on http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9505&details=Galaxy_S_4
why it is not on there ?? official samsung firmvare web?
Please someone explain me, and advice on that (H3G): H3G-I9505XXUBMEA-20130601113653.zip
safe? better then my current? is it official? and why I not get it, if my phone on three?
Thank You
Kris
Right Kris your phone is simfree and it's currently got the latest firmware for simfree S4's in the UK
3's early S4's came simfree before they brought out their own lock branded one's, you won't get updates from 3 but from Samsung which will take longer to get.
3 have their own branded firmware which is MEA, which is currently the latest firmware out atm in this country.
If you want to get updates quickly but don't want to root or go down the custom road then you need to flash your S4 with 3's branded firmware like I've done, your S4 will still be unlocked, so no need to worry on that front.
But remember once you've flashed 3's firmware you need to wipe & reset so that it installs 3's csc so you can get updates from both 3 themselves via ota, or by using Kies.
This is a link to the latest S4's 3 firmware, if you wish to flash using Odin.

CSC?
thx for reply
so u posted link to the same firmvare ver. as I did in first post H3G...
ok I understand
however I thought Its like samsung updates comes out first, then networks take them and modify and release, means samsung sahould be before three updates? why other way around?
so is it worth to update it? or I should wait
is it that firmvare three branded?
my other question is, what if I change CSC code, lets say to POLAND
then I get OTA update after reboot?
like they says in this article :
http://droidviews.com/2012/how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones/
thx

Samsung have this tendency to update network handsets well before simfree ones, just the way they work to keep the networks happy in the UK at least.
Yes that 3 firmware is branded what you get is the 3 logo at bootup & you get 3 apps that it.
If you mix CSC ie change the BTU or H3G csc to polish csc you won't get any updates at all, as your in the UK your better off using BTU which you currently have or H3G which you get if you flash 3's firmware, and just change the language to polish, if you want Polish updates then your gonna have to flash a full Polish firmware.
As for updating or just sit and wait well that upto you
So I think best option is just stay on what I am on now, and just wait bit longer...
the one more option I thinki about is may b flash unbranded firmvare like polish or german if available
like from: http://droidviews.com/2013/the-latest-xxubmea-firmware-update-for-galaxy-s4-gt-i9505-brings-major-improvements-features/
not sure they unbranded
Thank You for explanation...

Yeah if you not to sure on flashing then it best to stay with what you have now and just wait for the MEA update from Samsung which should be due soon, the only reason I flashed 3's branded firmware is because i'm too bloody impatient.

[Q]Updating my unlocked Galaxy Note 3 (LTE) to Lollipop

Greetings,
My name is Hisham and I have a Galaxy Note 3 LTE unlocked; I can't wait any longer for the official lollipop update to reach my phone via OTA or kies (I live in the UAE) so I am thinking to update manually using Odin and the official update released in Poland (or any other official release for that matter)! My question is: let's say that everything went smooth and I got the update; what will happen to my phone afterwards? and how it will affect my phone? let us say that the official update reached my region (UAE) what can I do then? and finally, will I still be able to write and receive SMS and email in Arabic as well as English ( I mean can I still download any keyboard and language?)
This is my build number for reference N9005XXUGNJ2 (I don't know if it will help)
Thanks for the help in advance

1. The CSC code of United Arab Emirates is called XSI (no UAE). Install this APP for know more info about your device anyway.
2. I do not recommend update your device manually if your device with your actual firmware (N9005XXUGNJ2) is going ok and smooth. Wait for the official update.
Thanks for the reply; I guess I have to wait for the official update now. I hope it will be soon :fingers-crossed:

EE OTA Update (UK)?

Hi
The latest firmware build for EE UK (EVR) (G935FXXU1BPLJ/G935FEVR1BPK5/G935FXXU1BPL1/G935FXXU1BPLJ) was released on SamMobile around Christmas time.....I'm still not getting any update notification via OTA.
I don't know whether or not to wait for the OTA to come through, or just go for an Odin flash.
I was wondering typically, how long does it take for an update to come through over OTA after it goes up on SamMobile?
Has anyone else received the PLJ update on EE over OTA yet?
I think the distribution time differs per carrier.. For me, (T-Mobile NL) the firmware is often available after it being on Sammobile for one day at max. But sometimes carriers only allow a certain amount of people to upgrade per hour/day, not sure why. (maybe to prevent server overload)
I tend to agree with you mate.
I've since found this quite interesting EE article which seems to confirm this
I like the network but their software updates plain suck.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I noticed the same, EE update but not pushed to my handset. I was about to download the firmware and Odin then found a guide that said to use Samsung Smart Switch for Windows. I installed that and although the update was not available to me via OTA through the Smart Switch application I was able to update.

GRA-L09C109B379 from April 2018 - why the firmware file is so small in size?

I am searching for the latest firmware for my P8. The newest one seem to be GRA-L09C109B379 from https://www.mobileheadlines.net/download-huawei-p8-firmware-files/
I currently use GRA-L09C02B405 from Vodafone. According to this page https://fordroid.com/huawei-mobile-firmware-region-code/ the C109 region code shows France, most probably Orange.
One thing bothers me. The firmware is around 10% smaller than these one that I had flashed before, they were 3.0 gigabyte in size or so, this one is 2.7 gigabyte only. Orange firmwares tend to have pretty much unnecessary apps un them, at least in Poland, so they should be larger than the rest of them or at least the sizes should be comparable, of course if my guess is right. Maybe there are some French regulations that forced Huawei to slim down the firmware (Facebook removed? Twitter?). I am really puzzled.
Is anyone who has flashed the firmware over C02 and/or C432 ones or can explain why the firmware is so small? Any thoughts?
Less bloat

Thank you very much for your explanation.
I will update the firmware of my P8 next week. Unfortunately, one cannot update it directly from Vodafone's C02B405, so I will have to downgradee firmware to European C432B39x first and update to French C109B379 next. I have tried to update it directly with no success.

Flash the update.zip with TWRP.
I installed the firmware three day ago and I have to say that it is great. Works very well. Almost no bloat from Orange (only Apps Orange - 116 kb in size and which can be easily switched off, moreover, it is not aggressive like the Vodafone bloat which pops up every reboot). Well done, Orange!
I have neither TWRP nor root in my P8. I had problems with both in B399 and I have not tried to install them since. Maybe I will try next week, however, I use Blokada.org so I feel no pressure.
Can this be flashed over C432B520 ? Strangely there is not new update for C432 and I'm stuck on security patch level from January 2018

Should be. If dload doesn't work, then try flashing the update.zip with TWRP.
