[Q] Where (and how) to download and install Jolla Sailfish onto a Samsung Galaxy S3 - Sailfish General

I have been trying to find a place to download Jolla Sailfish, but have not found any download links on the site. Is there something I'm missing? Or is it not available? If there is a place to download, are there also the install instructions?
Thanks!

That would be because there is no sailfish image available for any phone other than the Jolla phone, the Nokia n9, and the nexus 4.
The HADK (Hardware adaptation development kit) for android devices has not been released yet. Once it has, then there will be installation instructions, and a sailfish image to flash. It should be out in a few weeks time.

In the coming weeks, we'll also be publishing images for Samsung Galaxy S III LTE (i9305) and we'll be delivering updated images as we go along for each device as hardware support improves.

Another question, i am sorry i ask in this thread
If i buy nexus 4, is the sailfish is fully integrated with all his updates support as the real jolla is, or this is same as on nokia n9 ?

I don't own one, so I'm not sure, but I don't think OTAs are available through the phone.

No update capabilities at this time. Each new version requires a fresh install.
This is Betaware and not for use as a daily driver or prepared for public distribution as of yet.

So, if i want to use all capabilities on the OS i must buy jolla?
Because i have a N9, but the OS has a lot of bugs here and i dont use it at all. I understand that on nexus 4 will be exactly the same.

Maybe a bit more patience is needed. Certainly if you can get a Jolla Phone it will do everything a Jolla Phone will do.
I don't have that option. Jolla is not selling in the US yet. So I wait and see. But the team working on the port seem to be making great progress. :highfive:

azazel i'm a bored owner of a Samsung i9305 (s3-4g) there's any chance for me to try sailfishos on it? 08:13
sledges faenil: to where you have extracted/rsynced gapps (/opt/alien/.. iirc ?) 08:14
faenil sledges, yes just found it thanks anyway 08:14
tbr it's been surprisingly silent around the 9305 08:14
sledges azazel: give me your email and you'll receive porting guide when it's out 08:14
tbr it's all just nx4 08:14
chriadam pp: thanks. I'll poke matt about it tomorrow anyway 08:14
sledges (pm your email azazel , not on this channel that is) 08:14
tbr given that sledges, a sailor just implicitly said that azazel will need to port it himself, I'll conclude the i-9305 port by Jolla is dead in the water, for unknown reasons. 08:15
azazel oh 08:15
*** jukkaeklund_ has quit IRC 08:15
suy which was the way to get additional packages installed on the virtual machine? (e.g. QtContacts, QtPositioning) 08:16
azazel that's sad 08:16
Stskeeps long story short we hit some issues with modem part that we didn't have capacity to sort out, but, it'll be possible to build images for i9305 and other bits that are quite functional when HADK finally does come out 08:16
azazel i already have CM on it 08:16
Stskeeps just that we're focusing on making one good reference image 08:16

Root method for OTA3 (ICS)

Now that OTA3 ICS is released is anyone working on a root method for it for those who buy new tablets installed with ICS, who lost root in the upgrade or who have their system boards replaced ???

I think someone may be working on it as we speak, but I don't think this is the right place to post such a question. The general section would have been appropriate for the same.
Lets keep the dev section for sole dev purposes only.

They just released the source code for it.
Maybe a savvy programmer can help FIX it!
I have so many problems with slowness even after a fresh format. Really want a nice clean no BS ICS install, why is that so hard to ask.

Seems like Lenovo has managed to make this tablet pretty "secure". Bummrr lol

It seems unlikely that Lenovo will give us a Jellybean update so rooting and flashing will be the only hope for most.

[NOT A FLASHABLE ZIP]Android M Dev Preview System Port

TESTING HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR THE TIME BEING. WE HAVE EVERYONE WE NEED CURRENTLY. WHEN THE TIME COMES THAT WE NEED MORE, WE WILL LET YOU KNOW.
This thread will be used to notify the members of XDA as to our current progress. Once an official release is ready, this will be converted to a Q&A thread. Currently we are working out some kernel issues and will let you know where that leads us. This will also be where we look for testers as we expand to other variants of the G3.
UPDATE: Currently our team is looking for a name. Since it was formed from random community members, we have decided to come back to the community to ask for suggestions as to what we should name the team. I would also like to state that we are currently testing a kernel that may get the M Preview booting. So wish us luck.
I'd love to help but I'm only s beginner in ROM porting but what would I need to do for me to help you? I'll give as much help as I can give.
Edit:
Try asking @autoprime and @timmytim for help with making the flashable zip/cleaning up some bugs and other stuff

Yeah, really it doesn't need to be changed to the new format, but it would need a whole new updater-script, which I am not as familiar with as I would like to be due to time constraints and other priorities. So if @timmytim or @autoprime could take a look and help me out (if it's not too much trouble, of course) that would be awesome.)

Yeah. Unfortunately I no longer have a Gear 1, but someone has picked up where I left off. And thankfully, someone with the Verizon G3 and some porting experience is taking a look into modifying the boot.img to support M and has provided me with a baseline updater-script that I can modify to fit the situation.

Shield Tablet Developer Preview Thread

[NOTE]Hi. Ive been looking around the thread and I cant find an appropriate one so I just created one. Please let me know if there is redundancy that i have missed.[/NOTE]
This thread came from an acknowledgement that the Developer Preview still has some benefits especially to those who have been itching for major updates (like me hehe). The primary purpose is to maintain important files, and to share/talk about new features and stuffs, also some advantages.
Unfortunately, there is no one maintaining it yet. Especially for those who have missed the Preview sign up almost a year ago, having a link to try it out would be nice. Midgetmob's very comprehensive links dont have it yet.
Recently we've found out that Preview update 2 was released, FEATURING ANDROID N!!! Sweet right? Unfortunately, if you are not on the Developers Preview OS, you wont receive the OTA update.
SO please ANYONE, if you have the original file for the Developer's Preview for US-LTE, RoW-LTE, and WIFI versions, kindly share here The ones provided at the Vulkan Preview Thread no longer works. :/
Thanks in advance!

I'm not really encouraging well-principled people to break NDA but it won't matter when people can sign up here at XDA with a different username and just send a link to their uploaded file, right?
I might still miss out on the big picture though..
OK guys, in the other thread I've just been educated about the level of integrity here at XDA and I get it.
Since I've also applied for the Developer Preview, I will just ask Nvidia to resend the original link
I found my email from them, but when I attempted to reply it got sent back to me. It seems it's no longer working.

[Discussion] [Call for Devs] - Trying to make the Project Treble easier for everybody

As many might know, thanks to Project Treble the work needed to port ROMs has been greatly reduced.
Right now everything is still a bit messy around treble, with people searching in every possible forum (even on ones for other devices) for an image, discussing things not in relation with the topic's original device and just making thing cluttered and hard to find.
We also can see that the great thread put forward by phhusson begins to get the same treatment with people from many devices in the same thread asking device-specific questions (and even questions about devices without Treble-support) when phhusson's initial idea seems to have been to build a base image which could be used / modified for each device. Essentially giving a golden base which only needs small, device-specific, modifications.
Coming back to the title. I want to propose device-specific Treble - Threads. Permitting to let GSI (Generic System Image) threads clutter-free and development oriented, while these type of threads can be used to discuss problems related to specific devices. From what can be seen right now (through the eyes of a non-dev) most of the time only small modifications are needed, which could be managed with a custom kernel or a custom zip containing all fixes.
Hoping to find a way, together, to get Treble even better for us and making work easier for developers.
Feel free to discuss
I agree. Device-specific forums would help with reporting bugs, and finding GSIs for certain devices.
Agreed!
I totally agree, people should acknowledge this and start making a move
Treble development, imho, doesn't need to be branched out for all the specific devices. That's just not it's forte, it's mandate is to be generic, not specific.
Considering some issues may be affecting multiple devices, how about having a distinct support thread, separate from the main development thread, for every GSI?
I feel a threads for every device may be unmanageable, and actually counterproductive once such threads grow.
I've started a Treble Megathread for the Huawei P10 but it's not gaining much traction.
Treble is all well and good but if nobody is actually using it (Phh's RR v3 has only had ~1800 total downloads) then there's going to be very slow progress!
Making treble-enabled devices should just go in the respective device's development subforum that (probably) already exists....

So those people that have used it should write a guide on that devices' subforum. There's no need to clutter up the Treble subforum with device-specific things.

It's hard work to make a good rom. It takes much time and you have to know much about Linux / how a kernel works / what libraries do and such things. It isn't something you learn in some days.
Agree! But there is bugs that still didnt fixed by phhusson in aosp. Such as lag when opening app from recents tab (Huawei). Btw its fixed by in Pixel Experience and in Havoc OS but not in the original one ( base rom ) . Treble need some work to be perfect. Remember to old Cyanyogen mod? That one is epic!

When you really think building a rom from source, show what you can. You think it's really sooo easy to fix all the bugs? To get the hardware working?
Developers here on xda need weeks to release a stable build of a rom and you call it easy?

Quoting a site Miuipro.net (Start from Miuipro_8.10.25)
As we reported, miuipro has inserted spyware into their ROMs
To prove that, we tried to share the ota and then they found out
So your ROM usage will not be safe (bank, finance ...)
We are focused on creating another ROM, working with the ROS team and will support as many machines as possible
For this reason we will not share the latest ota from miuipro anymore, the share will only be made when we find out the malicious code they have inserted into the ROM
Miuipro.net pro!
Barely news.
And you didn't understood my question in particular, but that doesn't matter by now.
Good luck, mate!

https://miuipro.info, btw.
For all those who are looking for a appropriate alternative to Miui Pro and don't fancy Miui.am or maybe Xiaomi.eu that much, can I recommend this very promising Miui custom rom >
https://miui.revtechs.me/es/downloads/
edit.
I have no intention to take "your" thread over, if this isn't welcome just give me a heads-up and I'll remove the post, np.
I would have opened an according thread before but I'm slamed with Kali and lecture timetables..

First: - Sorry My English is bad
Second: - The site Miuipro.net is different from the original site of MIUIPRO ROMS which is

Fourth: - The purpose of this thread is to try to benefit the distinguished members of this wonderful site, and I am waiting to participate your thread to learn from you, with my sincere greetings.:good:

Unfortunately is the dev for the specific unlok patch a bit under stress. The patch to the newest build was deleted immediately.
I am bit pissed what the team from Miui Pro is thinking about their customer service and payments which weren't processed at all, for dozens of user.
They fork chinese software, but okay.
It's a bit unfortunate, because the rom is the best was Miui has to offer(even though there a several out there which language barrier makes it for some not usable).
I knew about this discussion which is heating up for some time.
I wouldn't recommend that anybody uses this rom.
With unlo(c?)k or without.
From team a or team b.
There has to be trust again.Otherwise they can look up a new name, or which is more likely a new nick.
Good riddance

Of course I would have, but it got removed almost immediately after the update of the new Miui Pro was posted.
I have never seen a update got deleted so fast, but like I mentioned is the climate momentarily very tense.

I was searching through the whole Xiaomi Forum.
Nothing.
Besides the fact that they have seriously messed with the build.prop eg., that data from our Account to them was send, should be, at least for now, reason enough to say that before all, they should getting their s*it together.
You know?
I handle much Mail correspondence, a Banking App and some stuff which is case sensitive²
Everybody has to decide for themself, which is without question.
Miui Pro was/is my first choice for this device, but I rather go with the second best custom rom then getting my data listed wherever.Even if they have no malicious intend.
I was looking around and saw that Masik got updated.

Maybe you can try it out for now as replacement.
As soon as I see the file on the forum I'll post it here.Promise.
