info about root - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys,
Since there are loads of posts about roots and after whole day of searching i didnt find any satisfactory answer, half of them says one thing another half says something else, therefore i would like to ask you for help.
Im user of note 3 sm-n9005 unbranded with kitkat 4.4.2 n9005xxuenb1. official knox 0x0 and no root yet.
My question is simple, is there way to root my note 3 without wiping, flashing custom roms, triggering knox and still be able to receive ota updates? just simply add root?
thx in advance.

if you root you wont get OTA anymore.
I used cf-root on my galaxy s4 and note 3 n9005 4.3 and got sucessful.
Cf root will trip your knox and phone will be left without warranty.

if you have root, you can install wanam xposed and fake system status to offical. After that you can OTA.

Can download yes, but install no, to install you have to unroot or go through a different method to install.

okay, than the only thing one can do is to update with odin, which doesnt trip knox as well

Well there is a way to do it, not 100% sure myself as I never done it, but it can be done (with MOP Afaik) - but yes, a full flash via Odin will preserve KNOX status

Unfortunately that ship hasn't just sailed but is over the horizon, hit an iceberg and sunk....
You needed to be on JB firmware, pre MJ3 to root without tripping Knox and then update using MOP to flash KK. You then needed to flash the KK bootloader with PC ODIN. This would retain root and leave Knox untouched allowing OTA. Root would be lost as soon as the OTA happened but you could download and flash again with MOP retaining root...
You can't root your phone now without tripping Knox...
If you do decide to, the best bet is cf-autoroot with PC ODIN.
I'm going to say again - NOTHING at this time will allow you to root without tripping Knox....

okay so i dont care now bout triggering knox. so my question is if its possible to root my note keeping actual fw and being able to update and install ota.
hm?
today i have received and installed n9005xxuenc2 and there was another 4 bloatware apps. i moved them to blocked apps. but still want to remove them which is possible only with root...
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

If you delete system files the OTA will not install in 3rd recovery ☺ Dont think for 3rd party apps as in tour screenshots.

[Q] SM-N900 International

Hi I recently root my note 3 SM-N900 with CF-AutoRoot, so when I go to Download Mode this is the information that it show me:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SM-N900
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
So I can´t see the Knox counter 0x1,
so I think that if it don´t show the information of Knox maybe it is not void the warranty, but I´m not sure.
now here are my questions
1. How to unroot and back to Official Stock Firmware?
2. If I unroot my note 3 can I use again Knox or not?
thanks for the help, and sorry for my bad english.
Have a nice day.
Flash the official firmware via Odin and it will unroot it. But I'm pretty sure if you used cf autoroot... Your knox will be 0x1

Ok I will try.
one more thing how can I update via OTA, when I try it say that it cant update because I have a Custome Firmware.
Man, you have the old Exynos boot loader which hasn't any knox flag, if you're gonna flash something make sure it's not the newest firmware (MJ7) via Odin or you'll update your boot loader which has a bit counter similar to the knox one, just custom Roms I'd recommend you.

Whatever you do ."DO NOT UPDATE " . Continue using the same rom .once you update via OTA , YOU will never be able to downgrade to lower rom and worst a warranty bit will be activated which will make you loose warranty for life.irreversible

Device is modified?

My note 3 is running the belgian 4.4.2 I downloaded from Sam mobile and flashed with odin, though the phone says it is a custom rom and when I click check for updates it also says phone is modified.
Anyone know what the problem is here and how I can restore ota updates?
The phone was rooted when i was on 4.3 but I have flashed first the Polish and then the Belgian 4.4s via odin

You can't go back to JB from KK... You may as well have said to connect to Kies and let that fix it...
To the Op, check if your Knox warranty void has been tripped, if it has you may as well root and install a custom rom and/or recovery, or at the very least xposed framework.
You can't reset theKnox but you can use a mod to trick the system into thinking its official which will allow OTA updates. You may need a couple of things to be active so the OTA will install but I'll let you look that up.

Used to read about a bug on samsung phones where if it contains too many files it would show system status as modified. Try transfer as much as your files from phone memory into sdcard then remove it. Then check again system status. It sounds crazy but i'm pretty sure that's my understanding from the thread

Strange, when flashing back to complete stock everything goes back to official (bar knox of course) - did you try the xeo? It's possible if you've used another firmware (carrier or country) the device may not like it.
Also a complete wipe may help too.

[Q] i9505 - Want to root and cwm 4.2.2

Hello everyone.
A long time Xda follower (even though i post little).
I recently bought a Galaxy S4 9505 and had a couple of questions. Previously I had the 9300 and modding that was very easy. Now due to the knox bootloader I am a bit confused.
I want basically install the google 4.4.2 rom on my phone. So i know I need to first root my phone and then install a custom recovery. Is this possible on the official 4.4.2 from Germany? Would there be any potential problems I might run in?
Thanks a lot everyone.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
If you flash a custom recovery ur warranty will be void (KNOX: 0x1). This mean u wont have warranty anymore. If u bought it now and u have 2 years of warranty, think about it :highfive:
*EDIT: Answering your questions:
- You dont need root for flash a custom recovery.
- You can flashs ROMs with the latest German android 4.4.2
The knox counter does not "erase" the warranty completly. If you are having problems with your device which are caused from unsigned firmwares/kernels/mods then samsung will not repar your device. If your volume rocker falls off then samsung will repair it.
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9505 mit Tapatalk
That is just perfect. Thanks for your help guys. However if i dont have to root to install a custom recovery, can i still install other roms? Like the 9505g port? Or would that require root?
Plus warranty doesnt matter much regarding knox since I am in europe.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Sure you can. Install a custom recovery using Odin, download the rom you want (4.4.2 Google Edition in you case), copy it to sdcard, wipe /system, /data , /cache and /dalvik cache.
Then install the rom and reboot

You may want to back up your phone after installing a custom recovery. You can do that in the recovery. Safety first

Update breaks towelroot on G900F

So I saw an update for "performance improvements" (~200MB) on my rooted 900F. I unrooted and updated. No problem. Once I reboot there is a second update ~1.2MB. I installed that and rebooted, tried to run towelroot and it says device not supported. Tried a few different modstring values including the temp root and none of them work.
Moral of the story; don't update if you want to towelroot.

Hard to say, it doesn't seem much different but I've only had it installed a couple of hours and not used the phone too much yet.
I can tell you, however that it adds more bloat! There is at least one new app I noticed called "My Galaxy"
EDIT: Also, they've changed the animation for fingerprint unlock failure to some horrible alarming flashing red/white thing instead of the subtle one it was before.

Because I'm an software engineer and I know exactly what I'm doing by rooting.
Denying root with this knox and other bull***, locked bootloaders, etc, is totally unacceptable to me.
I refuse to lose warranty for some hardware fault that might occur (and I've had many issues over the years and dozens of phones) on something I own because I got "root" access.
I dare someone to tell me that I've lost warranty on my laptop because I installed CentOS, logged in as root and twiddled with my bootloader.
It's entirely and utterly a matter of principle.
Don't expect you to agree, just helping you to "understand".

Quite simple, when you see the ota, remove ALL changes yiu nade to system (e.g. adblock hosts file)unroot from within SuperSU, then reboot then accept the OTA.
Bare in mind if you do this, there is currently no way to root again without knox trip

Root after u date i9505

Hi guys!
My first post so go steady on me!
I rooted my s4 and all was great and knox is still 0x0.
However, I recently updated and lost root as expected and have been having issues trying to root.
I don't want to use cf root as I don't want to trip knox.
I have ran root checker pro and it seems my phone is semi rooted if that makes any sense.
How can I execute the file it mentions in my screen shot? Or how do I repair this?
I have sent ages looking online but keep finding myself stuck.
Any help is appreciated greatly.

Try downloading and installing the latest supersu från play store!
I tried that but to no avail.
I have now sorted it. I had to flash a lower kernel, root with towelroot and then flash with the correct one for my rom. Knox is 0x0 but has shown system status "custom". No big deal.
