Rooting KitKat Guide:
Things you need first:
TWRP: http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/lt03wifiue/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-lt03wifiue.img.tar
Super SU Zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/450/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00.zip
Steps:
1) Follow CF Root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490805
2) Download TWRP 2.6.3.3 img.tar file and DONT unzip
3) Put tablet into Download mode and connect to Odin (You should already have Odin from firmware update. If not, see below for links).
4) Un-tick the auto reboot option only and press the AP button and select the TWRP you downloaded and flash.
5) Once successful, power off tablet and reboot into recovery manually and flash Super SU zip.
6) Reboot...........
To flash new update:
What you need:
Correct Drivers installed
Odin: http://android.sc/download-odin-3-09/
A good, solid USB cable
Thanks to @scrosler for the following guide:
Download Odin from the links
Extract the the .md5 file from the zip file you downloaded above.
Boot tablet into "Download" mode. You can do this by holding Power and Volume - (down) when the device is shut off. I note on this device it can be a little trickier so you may have to try a couple times. You should now see this on your tablet
Connect Tablet to PC using known good USB Cable
Start Odin and Press the "AP" button to load the tar.md5 file. This may take a while as it is also calculating the MD5 to ensure you have a good file. A bad file means bad issues and it wont let you flash it (good fail safe).
Once Odin sees the Tar and loads it completely AND Odin sees the tablet press the Start button to begin. Can takes about 5 to 10 minutes so be patient. Do NOT check or uncheck mark ANY other Options in Odin unless you know what you are doing!
Once it complete you will have a factory image on your tablet. Yay!
But we are not done. You may also want to, at this point, reboot to recovery and do a full data wipe. This method of Odin leaves the SD card and user data intact. To get into recovery hold Power and Volume + until you see the stock Android recovery. Select format Data, reboot. and your done

Awesome, can't wait to get home and update. Those of you who have updated, how is it?

Wow, so this is the actual 4.4 update? Is there a way I can return back to 4.3 if I dont like it? I'm assuming I can do factory restore?

NO, you cant factory restore back to 4.3. Factory restore will only wipe your apps and internal memory ( on stock recovery). You will have to Odin flash back.

Okay, thanks! So I have to use Odin to use this update?

Is this a leak'd version or a captured OTA?

Good question. I'd like to know that too before doing anything.
Meanwhile, is the flashing process just:
- unzip the file
- flash the tar.md5 in Odin in the 'AP' slot?
Thx.

Yes, this is the correct process

I think it's official. Here's why: If it was leaked there would definitely be a warning sign or message saying so. It has a proper region association, Colombia I think. It's also from official Sam Firmware Website :good:

[GUIDE][ROOT] How to apply OTA update and reroot your device (XXLK2) [Dirty]

First of all: All credits go to qzem, diego-ch and team win. I just explain how to apply OTA update and reroot your device.
The files you need: http://www.mediafire.com/?l3zdsxkvdek9s5x
This is what worked for me - it's very dirty, but it works.
0. BACKUP your phone with TWRP! (If you did not install the twrp kernel, do it first)
1. Download Stock ROM: here or from sammobile
2. Extract kernel from the firmware-package - or use xxlk2.tar.md5 and go to 3. if you feel adventurous (I'm not sure if the xxlk2.tar.md5 works on other devices than swiss-ones)
- Open the big *.tar.md5 with 7zip
- Extract kernel.bin.md5
- Follow the instructions described here and create a *.tar.md5 file for your kernel (use cygwin if you are on a windows machine)
3. Flash the whole Firmware with Odin (PDA file) - your data and settings won't be lost
4. Shut down your phone and go into download mode. Install the rootkernel_xxld1.tar.md5 from the package (ODIN - PDA)
5. Start your phone, check if root access is working
6. Back to Bootloader one more time - Flash your newly created kernel.tar.md5 (or the xxlk2.tar.md5) with odin
7. Start your phone - Start BusyBox and install the binaries
8. Your phone should now be updated and rooted - but without twrp! (just flash the old twrp kernel if you need twrp)
What about the binary counter ?
it will increase. I do not worry anymore about it... mine is at 14...

Hi, I downloaded the stock rom and flashed it. Then when I try to flash rootkernel_xxld1.tar.md5 odin says that the md5 hash value is not correct. I tried to extract the kernel.bin.md5 from it and flash it but it does not get flashed: it says succeed 0/ failed 0

I think difference are in provider you are on. See what provider is yours, and find it on http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Belgium isn't listed in the list there, so i guess there's no firmware available for my country. Well, that sucks :/

For step 7 if you can't handle it, download your firmware, extract kernel.bin.md5 from it and post it there. After rooting use Triangle Away to remove binary counter.

[OTA] How to capture Android 5.0 Lollipop official firmwares

Welcome to the Official Motorola Lollipop firmwares thread.
Here you will find the Firmware images of Lollipop for Moto G 1st generation once available.
It will be useful to have all variants of the awaited OTA here, since all devices have some differences in hardware, so here I will be placing all OTAs once they are released.
How to capture an Over The Air update?
If you want to contribute with your specific carrier OTA, once your OTA is available, do this:
Download the OTA but don't install it yet. With a ROOTED DEVICE, use some root explorer and go to /cache folder inside the root folder of the phone and copy the downloaded ZIP file to your emulated SD card, then copy it to your PC, upload it to any server you like and submit the link here to have all firmwares in one site.
The OTA will be named like Blur_Version.173.44.9.falcon_umts.Latam.en.AR (this is an example of an Argentinian retail Moto G 4.4.4 OTA ZIP package).
As I said, you need a ROOTED DEVICE to do this, so, if you want to contribute to this database, do all this procedure and unroot your device, or restore your firmware with this guide to make a clean install of the new firmware.

That's just my opinion but should related to android L threads be created once we at least will know when it comes? Or even better when it will be released?
There is already one thread have been closed http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/lollipop-t2929720
I'm just saying that this thread is kinda pointless for now.
Yea I thought placeholder threads weren't allowed on XDA

The thread you mention is useless.. But this will be useful since it will take no more than some weeks to see the update. So this thread can be opened right now, since I give info and instructions to capture an OTA to share with everybody when it is available... And I'll put my OTA for Arg retail Moto G here..

This is not just a placeholder, since I give instructions to capture the OTAs when they come up.. To anyone who wants to help with this database I give that instructions with some time before the OTAs roll out.
There is already a thread for Motorola Firmware Images. Please keep this thread OTA Updates only, and reword the OP to reflect this.
Cool..! This will have good database of Android L OTA's for all variants and easier to grab them once available in a single thread. But please make sure you update the OP as soon as someone shares in posts :good:
I think you can even add Variant names in advance at OP like XT1033 , XT1032 so on.
"Official" ? OP work for Motorola?
If not then its a community effort which is better than Official in my view

Thanks for this, helped me capture my 5.1 OTA update
actually I have found a way to capture the OTA without root,
step 1. download the OTA but dont install it..
step 2. power off the device and boot into bootloader mode
step 3. flash custom recovery like twrp 2.8.6.0 (fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery.img)
step 4. boot into the custom recovery, go to the file manager and go the /cache/ folder
step 5. copy the update file from the cache folder, and paste into the main sdcard root area
step 6. connect the phone to the computer via usb cable while in recovery mode
step 7. copy the update file to the computer.
now to install the update, just reboot back into bootloader mode, flash the stock recovery back with fastboot (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
step 8. enter stock recovery mode (to show options - hold power and volume up for 3 seconds)
step 9. apply update from sdcard (you will see the update file still there - Blur_Version.XX.zip)
This works, I have tried this 3 times before on 5.0.2 firmware.

i dont think thats possible...
do u have any custom recovery installed?
Hi. this rom , can install whit TWRP or CWM or recovery mode ??
I have successfully installed this rom on my 32GB E7. Working fine, no issues. Just transfer this file to your phone at any location, then go to System Updates and chose to install update by file, then select this file from the menu.
Once installed do a factory reset so that KitKat works optimally.
Someone could clearly explain how it is installed? Can be rooted at the time of installation? Since recovery? I think it costs nothing to lend a hand to which we are not able to do it properly!

try this,
goto settings>All settings>apps>(swipe to the right) All> there search for system update and then open it, there press clear cache, clear data and then try to open system updates again, if its still there then press force stop and then again try opening system updates
if this doesn't fix it then theres another way to flash the OTA via recovery (volume up + power button)
Need Rood
Hello Everybody.
I successfully updated my phone to 4.4.2
But the problem is I am not able to root my phone on this version the way I did on 4.2.2
Somebody please tell me how to root this phone on 4.4.2
I cannot live without root and Xposed.
Camera quality is noticeably bad after update :/
Especially in low light. Please check someone and confirm.
error: installation aborted
I am getting an error "Installation aborted" after "Verifying Package" in recovery mode.
cache/last_log shows some "E:Signature" error.
This may be due to a corrupt download. Will download it and try.
Any suggestions.
But this update is for Elife E7 Chinese version or Indian one? I tried to update but I had an error... Warning: No file_contexts This package is for GIONEE devices. this is GiONEE. What the hell it means? I have an Elife E7 32 GB 3GB RAM.

its for Indian version
If you delete some apps from the package, will this affect the installation.
Direct OTA Update URL
The system update is going too slow for me. Every MB downloaded it shows some network error.
Captured the OTA Url.
Here is the OTA Update URL
Download it with some download manager.
Edit:
This one is for 32Gb model. Not sure if there is different OTA Update for 16GB models.

Full stock receiving an update today

I just happened to do a software check, and it is downloading a new version. Any ideas? I was already on Lollipop.

More than likely security update for stagefright vulnerability. S5 got theirs a week or so ago.

400 megs for Stagefright? That seems pretty big.

Yeah it was 380 for the S5 too.
Thanks for the info. This was the only site that had ANY information about the update.
I'm on Lollipop, but Rooted. Will this update take away root by any chance?
My question exactly!

Typically these updates do remove root. Best to wait until someone has a root method figured out for the new update.

I just updated via the OTA method on AT&T. Rebooted twice. I still have root (verified by Root Checker). Here's my About page:
Here's the root checker pic:
I now have OC2. Update OTA with confidence!
I originally rooted OC1 (Lollipop) by following the Root/OC1 method.
EDIT: I just checked for stagefright vulnerability (via Stagefright detector). It reports that my device is NOT VULNERABLE. Nice.
I took the chance because this site has helped me in sooo many ways. It's the least I could do. Thanks everyone.
I'm rooted and my update failed at 26%
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Update failed for me at 25% too. I'm rooted OC1.
Does this update do more than just fix the stagefright exploit?
If not, then kmokhtar already posted a flashable update fix for stagefright which works great.
Could you post a link to that? I have been unable to find it via xda search, google search, browsing in note 3 forums...
Why is this 'update' 5.0? I could have sworn it was just up to 5.1.1

Can confirm that the update worked for me on rooted OC1, now shows OC2 and I retained full root on my phone.

Those like me who have installed modded apps like S6 and have mixed in deodexed files, the OTA will fail. the OTA installer MD5 checks the system files and if any fail it will abort the Update. Any deodexed system files will also abort the Update
How to updated to OC2 if your OTA failed
1. Download and unzip and copy this Folder to OC1 stock root backup to your TWRP backup folder,
\TWRP\BACKUPS\0b70b440\N900A_OC1_Lollipop_Stock_Rooted_Backup
2. Copy OC1 kernel recovery installer to your sdcard SM-N900A_N900AUCUEOC1_KERNEL_Recovery-Flashable.zip
*** You can also go ahead and copy Safestrap-HLTEATT-NC2-3.75-B03[1].apk and NC2 Flasher to your sdcard ***
3 Download the OC2 OTA 2400258.cfg
rename the 2400258.cfg OC2 to 2400258.zip and copy to your sdcard
4 Install the OC1 backup,
N900A_OC1_Lollipop_Stock_Rooted_Backup.zip
5. Install OC1 Kernel
SM-N900A_N900AUCUEOC1_KERNEL_Recovery-Flashable.zip
6. (I did a factory wipe , but Warning you will loose UserData settings and Apps you installed) You might try without but if you had a custom SystemUI and Touchwiz as I did it might FC because you have setting in Userdata pertaining to the Custom apps that you will over write with the OC1 backup.
7. Select Reboot and then select Recovery to boot to stock recovery and install as a update from external storage. mine installed with no issues.
8. To get safe strap back working Download and copy Safestrap-HLTEATT-NC2-3.75-B03[1].apk to sdcard (if you have not done yet)
9. Download and copy NC2 Flasher by benwaffle
10. Install Safestrap-HLTEATT-NC2-3.75-B03, run app and install recovery ( do not press reboot to recovery, it will only take you to stock recovery)
11. Install NC2 Flasher app and then use it to boot to recovery.
12. Do a backup of your new OC2
Now you can customized and do what you want

[GUIDE] How to flash the COS 13 update. Even if you get the release keys error

Alright.
I had this problem for a while and I figured out how to flash the update without the need to factory reset or change the update script of the update file.
Even if you get the user/release-keys error message. EXAMPLE:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

}
You have to be using the latest lollipop release before updating. That means you have to be on YOG7DAS2K1 before attempting.
This worked out for me. But it might not work for you. I do not believe it can destroy your phone and switch some satellites off, but still, not responsible if it did so.
Requirments:
You have to have TWRP now or you at least have ROOT and any flashing app like flashify.
Download COS 13 update file. here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24459283995316311
Download the latest CyanogenMod Recovery https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=bacon
Download the cm-12.1-YOG7DAS2K1 full ROM [url]https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960686198[/URL]
Guide:
Make sure the update cyanogen recovery option is checked in developer options.
Flash CyanogenMod Recovery downloaded before.
Reboot into it.
Use the update function in CyanogenMod Recovery and choose cm-12.1-YOG7DAS2K1 as the update file. It might take a while.
Now reboot to your phone. When booted and running, reboot to recovery.
Now you are running COS recovery. Update with the incremental.
That is it.
I hope this works out for you.
EXTRA: How to ROOT and have TWRP as a recovery:
Requirements:
A laptop.
Download TWRP and adb drivers on the laptop and the SuperSU and TWRP on your phone
Download Oneplus One TWRP Recovery [url]https://dl.twrp.me/bacon/twrp-3.0.2-0-bacon.img.html[/URL]
Get any adb divers. This one suffice [url]http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/adb-fb-apx-driver-universal-naked-t2513339[/URL]
Download the latest SuperSu [url]https://download.chainfire.eu/921/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550.zip[/URL]
Guide:
Reboot into bootloader: you can do this in many ways. A simple google search will show you how. Easiest way is to turn the phone off and hold the volume up and power long enough for the phone to boot into bootloader.
Connect your phone to your laptop
Run the adb: I assume you are using windows of course. First put the TWRP .img file in this folder. Hold shift and right click in the folder downloaded above. A 'Open command window here' option will be there. Click it and write in the window
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-bacon.img
. A hint: you can just write twrp and hit TAB, it will complete the filename. Or you can rename the downloaded file to just twrp.img
Check your phone, you will be running TWRP temporarily. You now have the option to ROOT only by flashing the SuperSU file downloaded on your phone. If you reboot now you will lose TWRP and get back to the official COS Recovery. If you want TWRP for good flash the TWRP file downloaded on your phone before.
I hope this is easy. It actually is. just follow it step by step.
If you could provide us the guide to root and come back to twrp I would be extremely happy

if you need a guide to root, this means you are not rooted, and if you are not rooted most probably you already have stock recovery, which means you can just install the OTA update without any issues.

Thank you, you made my life easier, but when I tried to run the twrp through fastboot I got an error and I got the solution writing "fastboot boot twrp.img" (after renaming the file).

As I stated before you have to be on COS 12.1 YOG7DAS2K1. This method should not format your phone or remove any data as there is no factory reset step.
As for the link they are all over the place now. I used the official one. I'll link it for your convenience.
can anyone please pull the stock recovery from COS 13, not 12. I kinda screwed up while updating and now stuck in bootloop.
Update: The issue is resolved. The issue was because of SuperSu 2.46. Installing the latest TWRP and SuperSu 2.66 fixed it. Marshmallow is now rooted!
Thank you very much! After going back to stock and still not receiving the update for more than a week (well at least it felt like a week, Lol) I decided to flash a full COS 13 zip floating around. Instantly liked the new ROM but it had root/symlink issues only to be resolved when flashing a custom kernel it seems. Not what I really wanted so then I stumbled onto your thread and this technique worked 100%! I was on DAS2K1 (flashed thru a custom recovery) already and had several failed attempts flashing just the incremental outright (thru stock recovery)., but by flashing DAS2K1 thru stock recovery first as you suggest then the incremental seems to do the trick.
I did it all the steps, but my phone doesn't not start. After optimizing aplications I have bootloop at "cyanogen modready".
L.E. I think the problem was one of old aplications. After a clean install everything works.
This is the best thing Oneplus one i ever experience.COS13 give my Oneplus one a new breathe of life .This update better than crap lolipop. No Bug for me until now, only google play service need to update twice in play store, its auto reboot itself twice and wholla, super speed UX.The best thing i ever have.I apply update from CM-12-0-YNG1TAS17L Build LRX22G using this method and it works flawlessly
I don't need to factory reset or wipe cache .
I flash full stock ROM cm-12.1-YOG7DAS2K1 and apply update through CyanogenMod Recovery only and nothing else.
Now my oneplus one is rooted and TWRP install using ADB and its fly.All rooted apps is working together with Adaway.
Thanks Cyanogen team for make this 2 years old flagship killer a beast .
Only thing not satisfied is gone signal and wifi status (connectivity indicator ).I need to swipe down to see my transfer data working (what a bummer ).
Thanks so much for this magical guide (y2kkingboy) Yours truly Oneplus one diehard fan.
I was already on cm-12.1-YOG7DAS2K1, however rooted. So even if I had been offered the OTA it would have failed.
Your guide got me updated, first time with no problems.
6.0.1 is such an improvement on 5.1.1, I tried a couple of other 6.0 roms, however this has by far been the most stable and bug free.
Cheers for the tutorial!

I had tried this before and it did not work for me. Kept getting an error saying "the signature file was not a complete file" and therefore it didn't flash. But it may have been editing error on my part. This method works just fine and no need to give up your data either.
Having tried many other ways, I got it done with this instruction.
Thank you!
