SM-G900V working on T-Mobile! - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i just bought a Verizon S5 and it wasn't activated on Verizon yet and i put my T-mobile sim card in it and its working fine, its been a whole day now and its still working fine (data, calls, texting) apart from the notification "The sim card is from an unknown source".
Has anyone else tried it?

This is great for people that want to buy the bootloader locked phone and use on T-Mobile instead of buying the T-Mobile bootloader unlocked phone. Why anyone would want to do that, though...

I think only Band 4 LTE works. You must be in an area that has it. That was the case with most 4G LTE phones with Band 4. I think the droid maxx was in the same boat. Now if it was the other way around that would be super.

I've also seen people using Verizon's note 3, Galaxy S4 and S3 on T-mobile with no problem or modification.
So the phone is considered locked or unlocked in this case? could it be that Verizon isn't paying too much attention to locking their devices in the US like before?

Guys guys guys. ALL verizon phones made in 2013 and 2014 are unlocked by default.

Agreed but, it's law after contract is up to unlock... I was thinking, someone should buy the phone cash in hand and get a no contact deal and force them to unlock it. Problem solved...

My Verizon S5 seems to not work on T-Mobile. I have a circle with a line going through it at the top. I've tried setting it to global and gsm and even added the T-Mobile APN setting still no dice. Any solutions?

They are SIM unlocked.
meaning theoretically you can throw in any SIM card from any carrier as long as your device supports it, and it should work without modifications.

Are these sim unlocked for all bands supported by this device? Including 700 mhz band 13??
I need to use this device for the Entel network.

Yes. All Verizon phones are world phones. However, if you want them to use 4g lte on other carriers. You must manually enter the apn

If you want to remove the Sim card notification. Use titanium backup to freeze or Uninstall the "setup" app. The notification will instantly be removed.

All Verizon phones with LTE made after around 2013 are unlocked. It's due to fcc agreement for a lte band iirc.

What does them being unlocked mean? I can see in the bootloader that it is unlocked but i can do nothing with that phone. I've paid a couple of sites to get the unlock for me and they also can do nothing. Although "unlocked " it will not let me put a recovery in it, can not root it, can not put a sim other than vetizon un it. I want to change it to sprint but am able to do nothing with it.
---------- Post added at 09:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:00 PM ----------
I sure can't get the sim unlocked phone to accept anything but a verizon sim. I can't even buy a unlock code.

How do you fire up titanium back up eith out root?

I bought a verizon and want to use it on sprint. Why? Just as a favor to a friend that needed to pay it off. If i got a phone that just worked it would take the fun out of it.

If your using a Verizon Galaxy S5 with a T-mobile sim like me. You just need to install a t-mobile rom and it will do everything a tmobile GS5 will do including wifi calling wifi teather 4g 3g edge ect... also the volte works. Verizon roms will give you bugs like 1x no servive when in a call or it wont let you change the voicemail number and kick you out of calls or give you a no sim error every time you hang up a call the list goes on and on. I'm using Twisted loli from the t-mobile section and it works perfect. If your already rooted Just install the 5.0 rom of your choice and boot directly to download mode then install the Vzw OC4 firmware only file with odin and thats it! Let it boot and you will now have a tmobile phone.
get the firmware here and make sure you only use the RETAIL FIRMWARE ONLY file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880

Apologies, but I am trying to upgrade my GS5 to lolli (using a Tmo sim in a Vzw GS5) and I was hoping you could be a little more clear in your instructions. (Still kind of a newb here). I have root, safestrap, etc. if you could just list out a little more detailed in steps what needs to be done that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance and sorry for not understanding so easily.

I'm using Twisted V7 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo.../rom-twi5ted-lollipop-5-0-v1-deviant-t3037766
Download and save it to your SD card.
Then go here and download the OC4 Retail Firmware Only file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
Save it to your desktop.
Boot to SafeStrap or Flashfire and do a wipe for clean install. Then install the downloaded rom like normal.
After it installs re-boot directly to Download Mode and plug your phone to your computer (if using FlashFire you need to select reboot to download mode before you flash or you'll have to do it manually after an unsuccessful boot)
Open Odin and click AP. Browse for the OC4 Retail Firmware Only file you saved and click start.
After a few seconds the process will complete and your phone will re-boot at that point you are done and can unplug from the computer.
Give the phone a few minutes to boot. Mine took about 5 minutes. That's it.

If you are wanting someone to help with an unlock - I would suggest posting a kdz of firmware.
I wish I grabbed one of these before they sold out. I would have liked to work on it along side of the G4.

Have you found a way for unlocking?
What means KDZ firmware?
is this KDZ will unlock the phone?

Nice! I think you're gonna like it coming from the 3. Battery is about the same imo, but with the added stuff and no upgrade in battery I expect it. I have to get rid of this Tmo account app though asap. It's a battery killer on the G4.

Try to get the com.lge.hiddenpersomenu from the tmobile G3. Since metro is basically tmobile im sure it would work. Just download the stock g3 rom and pull is out and put it on your Leon
Make sure to give it the correct permissions

Also check to see is the tmobile version has it LGH340.. If so then use the one from that or maybe you could even flash the tmobile rom

No ROM available for mine, I think the Bootloader is locked but again I haven't gone that far since I may need to send it back.
Tried with and without SIM , also did a factory reset but same results. There must be another service or app preventing the unlock process.

Firmware is Still Universal with NEW Note 7 Units

FYI: Just flashed AT&T PH1 firmware on my N930V Verizon Note 7 that i just had replaced in the store today. They literally only changed the battery in the new models. Have fun rooting
Note : don't take the new green battery update or else you won't be able to flash PH1.. if you do take the update, you will need to wait for someone to upload the new green battery PHE firmware for the carrier of your choice. You CANNOT FLASH BACK TO PH1 AFTER UPDATING TO PHE (green battery) FIRMWARE.
out of curiosity why would you want to flash att firmware?
Maybe because we can and for the fun of it? Also, VZW strips out some Samsung capabilities. I may flash TMO when I get mine or just use the new root method. Picking up my new Note shortly from VZW store.

Because I have AT&T service on my primary line with unlimited data. Need to flash AT&T firmware to unlock LTE band 12/17 and get VoLTE, etc.
I use my secondary line on Verizon to upgrade all my phones, then use them on AT&T so I can keep my data. Also, I do 2yr contracts on VZW instead of the rip off that is the AT&T Next program.

Still on PH1 so no green battery. Just read that the new firmware doesn't allow bootloader downgrading so root doesn't work. If the same is true for Verizon Green battery update, you'll need to flash the green battery AT&T update

Sorry I was vague, it was my knee jerk reaction to that news.. I was planning on doing the root for Verizon soon. The only root thing I'd want is to enable hotspot on my unlimited plan but I'd hardly use it anyway. Since Samsung gave the small scaling option plus I have Nova Prime and the Material theme on top of disabling all unwanted apps, root isn't even necessary for me. What do you typically do or use that requires root?
I just want it for the ability to actually clean up and get rid of all the crapware they put on the devices...

Eh, just the normal stuff. Hotspot, debloat and other system app removal, backups via titanium backup, root ad blocker (rather than constantly running a VPN with adguard) . Other small customization such as things from emspilots thread..oh and small annoyance fixes like removing the headphone volume warning.
I'll agree that root hasn't been necessary but at the moment it was kind of a nice feeling knowing that if I found a reason to push me back towards rooting I could root and just give up using samsung pay.
Oh and a battery icon that has the level indicator inside the icon.. kills me to see how much space just the battery icon and percentage take up on my status bar lol

AT&T & T-mobile now have the same bootloader version

*I originally posted this in the AT&T S7 forums unintentionally so posting here as well*
For those of you curious about running the T-mobile firmware on the AT&T version of the edge, it is now possible since they are now using the same bootloader version.
I have an AT&T S7 edge (SM-935A) and recently switched to T-mobile as my carrier. I had to unlock it first so I used the service from unlockunit. It took almost a day for the code but I was then able to pop my T-mobile SIM and sure enough, it worked. Surprisingly, WIFI calling even worked!
At this point, I really wanted to switch to the 935U firmware as I heard it has great battery life as all the carrier bloat is removed. Unfortunately, just before I switched, the recent September update from AT&T raised the bootloader to v4. I learned after the fact you have to disable the update service as it eventually will force you to update. Now I was stuck with the damn AT&T firmware!
I wanted to flash the 935U firmware but the bootloader was still at v2 and T-mobile, so I thought, was at v3. It might be helpful to have a sticky on this forum with the current bootloader versions as it took some time for me to research the following:
AT&T - v4
T-mobile - v4
Verison - v4
Sprint - v2?
Universal - v2
Yes, you read that right, T-mobile just released a new firmware (PIA) which raised their bootloader to v4! You can grab it here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G935T/
It's the one with the date of 2016-09-27. I used the prince odin version referenced in this thread for flashing as others failed and gave sha1 errors. http://forum.xda-developers.com/veri...g930v-t3411015
If you plan to do this please research how to flash with odin and remember to back everything up! Samsung Smart Switch is a great resource for this.
I've been running on the new T-mobile firmware for just a day but already like it better than AT&T's. I didn't even know AT&T disabled some features of the S7 edge that other carriers kept. Typical for the Deathstar. Can you sense my disdain for AT&T?
For example, with the T-mobile firmware, you can control Download booster (the ability to leverage wifi and LTE simultaneously!) This option was removed from the AT&T firmware. In addition, you can set a preference to WiFi calling. With the AT&T firmware, you have no control and it will only flip to WiFI when in a weak area. It just so happens where I live the AT&T signal is weak so I was always jumping back and forth between the two and it was frustrating not being able to control it. The only way to force WiFi calling is turn on airplane mode when in a fringe area and turn WiFI back on. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore.
I'm including some screenshots which show the current firmware running on my SM-935A.
Hopefully we'll see an update to the 935U bootloader to v4 which will allow a switch to that firmware.
Thanks for the info.

no sorry im not clear on what im asking lol. im on (U)firmware but i cant send mms and my ims is not registered. if i go back to (A)firmware everything works fine. so the question is first do you have an origianl att phone? and second if so when you flashed the u firm ware did your mms work or did you alter something to get mms working.
My question is if i remain on att and run the tmobile firmware will the wifi calling work?
---------- Post added at 07:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:50 AM ----------
Also, is the root method the same and does it still work with new v4 bootloader?

Only thing not working is VOLte, Wifi Calling, and visual voicemail. lve been a nexus user so im used no biggie on them. Have you alter anything? Using any other messaging apk?

oh ok you arent rooted thats the big missing link lol , im rooted on att variant but have u firmware. sorry thought you were rooted and on u firmware.
So, it sounds like you're saying we can use ATT WIFI Calling after flashing the G930T firmware? Is there anything you lose from G930T? HD Calling for example? Anything else?
Edit: I said 930 because I followed a link here from the 930 forums - I assume it would be the same for the 935, but I'd like to know how it worked on the 935 too.
What are the benefits with the TMOBILE firmware?

It has been written elsewhere that AT&T requires 1) proprietary code [read: ATT ROM] and 2) AT&T-branded phones (IMEI they recognize, also includes some non-ATT such as iPhone/HTC) for advanced calling features to work.
I would bet that VoLTE, WiFi calling, video calling, advanced messaging, etc. do not work with the T-Mo ROM.
On the other hand T-Mo uses more standard VoLTE protocols, etc., so phones like Nexus 6P, 5X, etc. work with VoLTE and WiFi calling just fine on T-Mo.
A bit of history: Even people who got ATT-branded Nexus 6 do not get VoLTE because Google later standardized the N6 ROM therefore without ATT's evil code (and bloat).
ATT has quickly surpassed VZ as the new Evil Empire.

Where did you find the solution, I've tried a couple different versions of odin and no luck. Also, should I be using the "CSC" or "HOME_CSC" in the CSC box?
EDIT: Also figured it out. search for "Verizon S7 / S7 Edge [Root Guide] SM-G930V SM-G935V [NO KNOX TRIP]" in xda to find the correct ODIN version for this.
and the correct file to use in the CSC field is "CSC" even though ODIN says to use the "HOME_CSC"
Do I need to enable OEM unlock?

Does phone status still appear as "official" or "custom" after updating to 7.0? I have to use Good Work for work email and it will not install if the device shows "custom" status. Thx.

I wanna give this a shot but flashing Verizon FW scares me. If you don't mind me asking, did you follow the procedure in the OP to the letter or did you alter the process?
Also, are you able to surf the net (or multitask at all, i should say) while you're on a phone call? I think I remember reading about this limitation with Verizon FW a while back. Thanks in advance

How get back your carrier services if you changed your CSC code.

How get back your carrier services if you changed your CSC code
Well with the help of these great XDA members I was able to restore my carrier services to my ATT 986U branded phone.
I made the mistake of messing with the CSC code without doing enough research. The mistake I made was using the procedure below on my 986U when it was meant for 986U1.
(I just pulled my SIM, entered *#272*MY_IMEI# and changed CSC from ATT to XAA. Rebooted phone without SIM and checked for update.)
Doing this made my phone lose all of its carrier services and I could not revert back. Luckily with the help of the XDA members they provided a tutorial on how to restore the ATT carrier services. It has been confirmed to work on Verizon and maybe other carriers. Follow the instructions below provided by @mlr_90.
1. First Flash your device with the U1 firmware found here using the patched Odin3_v3.13.3b: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-20-ultra/how-to/ota-ota-firmware-n986u-t4143833
2. Second make sure you flashe the AP,BP,CP and CSC found in the file. (Not the HOME_CSC)
3. Make sure to remove your sim card when you flash rom. Reinsert the sim card once phone is booted up and done with the initial setup. Once setup is done pop in your carrier sim card and you should get a message stating to reboot your phone. This will change your CSC code back to ATT/ATT/ATT from XAA/XAA/ATT.
4. Once your phone reboots confirm in the software information that your CSC is back to ATT/ATT/ATT
5. Now you can flash back to the U version firmware. Currenlty the latest is ATI6 found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-20-ultra/how-to/ota-ota-firmware-n986u-t4143833
6. Flash using the U firmware using the instrucitons in step 2, but this time make sure your flash the HOME_CSC instead of the regular CSC.
7. Once this is completed flashing you should see your carrier logo during bootup and all the carrier services will be back on your phone.

In using the U1 firmware on my Verizon note, I gained access to the security section in device care and also called ID and spam in phone. When you flashed back to ATI5 U firmware, do those get removed again? Really the only thing that I can see I am currently missing is Carrier Video Calling, but was just planning on using Duo.

Doesn't it feel good Borijess that you were able to help, believe me when i say this there are going to be plenty people who will get help from this but plenty people are selfish and entitled they would never hit thanks nor acknowledge nevertheless you did good by posting this (you could have ignored the suggestion) now may i suggest one more thing - Edit the title to be more Generic like "How get back your carrier services if you changed your CSC code"
While in the main description you can write you did this for ATT and we have confirmation that this works for Verizon too. So more people would be able to use it. Going by the forum posts believe me this is an issue many are facing.
