256GB Micro SD for Note 3 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wish to puchase a 128GB micro SD or even a 256GB micro SD for my Note 3, so I can load it with several movies and other stuff.
Does anybody knows if Note 3 support such big storage? Any issues? Has someone already tried to use 128GB Micro SD card?
Thank you
Saulo

I forgot...the 128GB is from Sandisk

sorry...my mistake. It is a Samsung 128GN micro SD card

Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472486. Myself haven't go through in details but i believe 128GB is possible

128 is the biggest available (on amazon, but deeply backordered - I bought mine like a month ago, and still no sign of shipping). The manufacturers appear to be supply constrained.
128GB of flash just barely fits into a microSD package with top-of-the-line process technology. That's the biggest we're going to see until another round of process shrinks (and this is why it's taken until now to bring out a 128gb microsD card).

However you can mod your phone with an sd card to micro sd card adaptor and use a 256gb up to 2 terabyte card - theoretically... People do use 256gb sd cards though. This is proven to work...

So does NOTE 3 fully support 128GB? I mean, if you insert a 128GB will Note 3 see it as 128GB or just 64GB? Or will it sense it as two separate 64GB partitions?
I ask because I see in the specs: "it can be expanded with a up to 64GB external memory"...

Thats because 64gb was all that was available when Note 3 was launched.... The S3 specs only say up to 32gb but I used a 64gb sd card in that as well as the Note 1....
This is the manufacturer covering their A$$ so if for some reason someone did have a problem they point to the specs sheet and say it wasn't covered...
Rest assured it does NOT partition the sd card... I have a 128gb sd card - using the sd card to micro sd card adaptor - on my Note 10.1 2014 ed with no problems... Hell, I use a 128gb sd card on my Note 10.1 1st edition...
Still running out of space though.....
I get my adaptors from here, though I have seen cheaper these are just the right size - http://linitx.com/product/sdmicro-to-sd-card-adapter/11922

I have a 64gb flash card its the fastest class ect. and it runs PAINFULLY SLOW! it takes forever to even copy stuff onto it from USB3. its much slower then the note 2 for some reason. i had it tested and its not faulty. its just a PAIN IN ASS. so only use it if you plan to keep it on there a long time. now I just delete/copy the internal memory as its much faster then move all stuff overnight while its on charge to External

If you have a 256gb micro sd card you just plug in where the micro sd card goes, I was referencing an adaptor that has a micro sd plug and you can insert a normal size sd card. If you have a 512gb sd card this would also work...

Hello, I purchased a 200 Gb Lexar microsd.
I was so happy of its capacity, but now I have a file system issue. It made it just readable, so no way to modify it neither format it...
Since my data stand there I cannot give it back in order to get a replacement or refund...so I think no more Lexar at all...

Class number indicates how fast the read and write is. The larger the number the better.
SDHC is your standard micro sd card up to 32gb. While the SDXC can go up to 2 TB i think? Its format will also be exFat meaning it can read/store single file greater then 4gb. Not sure if SDXC exFat format is supported for S4? since S4 can read up to 64gb i assume it can read the 64gb class 10 SDXC cards. if not then you can convert it to FAT32 but it wont read a file which is greater than 4gb

Yes... unless that type is not supported by S4, i havent researched the S4 side yet. Currently im using a SDXC Class 10 64gb exFat format on my Nokia 808.
I think the packaging has the Green android robot guy with a label of Supports Android or something. I threw away my packaging but im using a Sandisk Ultra if that helps.
I cant vouch for S4 personally since i havent tried inserting it yet. Hope someone here has tried.
Thanks
Is there anyone that know for sure what is the best memory card for the s4 I9500?
I got a samsung 64gb pro class 10 sdxc. Works perfectly in my s4. Formatted the card within the phone and am able to transfer files larger than 4gb in it, so am assuming the phone formatted it to exfat.
Yea it's an option but I think I will take the 32gb, but for the 32gb I didn't find the xc model.
How is sdhc hc-1? Will it work or is there a better one that will work?

From my understanding, the Galaxy S4 will only read up to 64gb. anything higher, phone won't read it. Also, some say to be careful with the Sandisk cards as they could be difficult to work with on the S4. I have a Samsung 32gb card and it works flawessly.

Maximum Capacity SD Card for Note 3

is there any links or sharing from users to confirm this ?

Here is an adaptor to fit a standard sd card. You can theoretically go up to 2Tb but I have a 128gb card working in my Note 3 and older SG note 10.1...
SDXC spec is up to 2TB and all modern phones should be able to handle that no problem. The reason they advertise 64GB is that is the maximum size actually available in microSD format at release, but when larger ones come around or you use a full size SD with adapter as long as it is SDXC it will work. My guess would also be that theoretically a new SD protocol could be added at the kernel level but this phone won't be receiving that update as SDXC has many years left to go until we reach 2TB SD cards.

The Note 3 can recognize up to 2TB. All the new storage technology has so far been backward compatible, so the since released 128, 200 & 264GB SD cards should work fine. 2013+SD Drivers will all be backward compatible till 2TB.
64gb, anything else may work, for awhile but then it will start showing that the files on it are gone. If you use a card bigger than 64gb don't save anything to it that you use or want to save. Shame because the note 3 is definitely one of Samsung better phones!
I learned the hard way, with 2 sdcards from 2 different manufacturers, 64gb sdcard, maximum.

Either something wrong with your phone, rom or sd card.....
I use 128gb sd cards in all of my phones with no problems, and they are pretty much full too. Everything works and no problems.
Have backups of roms, APK's I don't wish to hunt for again (they update after install so no problem running old APK files), music and video files. Pictures, both from camera and stuff I've got elsewhere, text files, both for work and play. All works fine.
I even dabbled with a 200gb Sandisk but put that in another newer device...

You were just misinformed companies want you to think there's a limit but when your on a site like xda there's no fooling us lol, even though at that time 64 gb microsd was the biggest external microsd option there were ways to get around the limit via regular sdcards. I have a 256gb sdcard I use on my note 3 from a tf cable that uses the microsd card slot on the note 3 so I can insert my sdcard and store massive amounts of data on it. I'm planning on buying the 128gb microsd also tho just to support sandisk and Thank them for finally making this happen, we're sure to see 128gb internal phones in the near future now.

C'mon, this is very simple, until couple days ago the largest micro sd card was 64GB and that's how far they could test it and that's what they wrote in the specs. If the 128GB card follows the specs, it has to work, but I do remember in the past some cards didn't work with all devices and I have no idea why, something about particular controller being not compatible, so it would be foolish for Samsung to post specifications which can't be tested. I had same thing with my old camera, specs listed 32 GB max, largest size at the time of release but it worked with 64GB fine when those came out. So when do we get 256GB, 128GB seems so yesterday.

Almost certainly it will work. However the manufacturer suggested price (200$) is just "marketing" similar to what is routinely done on overpriced jewelry, the initial launch price seems to be closer to 120$ and I would be quite surprised if the price will not get towards 70-80 US$ once the competition really heats-up.
Amazon has it for $119 but it is out of stock.
No idea when they will actually have it.
It's been over 1 year so it's probably time to confirm that the SanDisk 128GB Ultra Micro SDXC Class 10 UHS-1 card works flawlessly on a Samsung Note 3 SM-N900T (running either KItKat or Lollipop). For best performance it doesn't hurt to adjust the read-ahead cache higher than the default 128K (I use 1024K).
Beware of the many "fakes" found online. As of this writing, anything under $50 is probably not a genuine 128GB card, but you can find legitimate ones for as little as $65 if you search around.

note 4 could support 200gb sdcard ?

i wonder if note 4 could support this new kind of sdcard ??
Hi,
yes. The Note 4 supports 200GB MicroSD cards. I have a SanDisk 200GB card in my phone. No issues so far.

Stephan
I have the same one as well. 10gb partitioned for link2sd and the rest for storage. zero problems
This may sound stupid, but i will go for it and ask. Can you make ext sd + phone sd to work in RAID ?
Hi Sectoras,
no, RAID is not possible. And what RAID should it be? Mirroring, Striping, Raid 5, Raid 6?
You are thinking about a joined memory of internal and external SD card, right? This will be possible with Android 6 / Marshmallow.

No, it does not support striping. What it does support is called "Just a bunch of disks" (JBOD) but that's no RAID. JBOD is a storage volume created by joinig disks (here SD cards) of different sizes. JBOD does not improve performance, it just supplies you a single storage using all memory cards (Phone 32GB + ext. SDcard 200GB). There is also no data security (redundancy of data). Therefore RAID 0 (striping) is, technically spoken, not a RAID as well because of the missing data redundancy.
I also expect several issues with the JBOD solution of Android 6. The externa SD card is much slower than the internal memory which might have and according to some reports on the net does have adverse effects on the loading speed of apps and data. Also when the SD card breaks you will probably have to re-install the complete phone as you have no influence on where the apps and data are stored.
I saw a 256GB micro sd card. I'm assuming that will work too?
Yes, should work if the 256GB is an SDXC card.
If a phone supports SDXC cards based on the SDA 3.0 specifications (like the Sandisk 200GB card) it will support every SDXC card following that standard.
SDXC supports 64GB up to 2TB.
If some day there will be for example a 512GB or 1TB SDCX card available it should also work with the Note 4.

At one point they were claiming it would be out 8 months ago (and was going to cost $1000) - but again it does not exist yet (and might never be as it's been almost a year since they maid these claims). I've seen plenty of people scammed and ripped of on these cards - again - THERE IS NOTHING BIGGER THAN THE 200GB for sale at this time.
Interesting I didn't know the Note 4 could support a microSDCard of that size, I thought the largest card that can be used is a 128GB card.

Help with more storage

Hi, I have a samsung galaxy s4 and it's running out of storage. It's a 16gb phone but about 9 gb is unusable due to "misc fiiles", just the way the phone is which sucks. I just need an sd card to get some more storage. I can use this to store files, pictures, and for apps correct?
I can't post urls, I was gonna post a link to the Samsung EVO 32GB Class 10 Micro SDHC Card with Adapter (MB-MP32DA/AM) on Amazon, will that one work with my phone? And I just insert it in the back of the phone right? I've had this phone for a year, its my first smartphone. Im just looking for some morr reliable storage.
Thank you.
Yes it will work. This phone will probably work with 128 GB microSD cards too.
