[Q] S-View Window Not Displaying Gmail Notifications - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My S-View window does not light up when I receive a new email notification from Gmail app. I have to hit the power button or open the phone cover to see if I have any new emails, and that is when I will see the notification. I want the S-View window to light up when I receive a new email like it does when I receive a new text message. Is this something that is in a setting I need to change? Or do Gmail notifications not cause the S-View window to light up? I am using the S-View flip cover if that matters.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

This is also occuring with my Hotmail notifications through the default Samsung email app. It seems the only notifications that 'wake up' the S-View window is my text messages. Is there a third-party app that I can download that will fix this?
Thanks.

Bump, Gmail is working now but not other email. Any suggestions for third-party email app that will work/light up with S-View window?

Email notification

My problem is this when for example I get an sms notification icon in the top bar I tap on my messages app and read it. The icon in the notifications bar goes without me having to clear it in the notifications panel. However this is not the case with emails if I do the same the only way to clear the icon is to do it by pressing clear button in the notifications panel. Any ideas why this is and how I can get it to do the same as a sms notification?

Also I view my emails in the all accounts tab, I have my hotmail and gmail accounts linked with my hotmail account as default.

Hi, just to let you know that I don't have this issue.
When I get an email I get a notification on the top bar and my Mail shortcut on the home screen shows a number in a blue circle. I either tap the mail icon or swipe the notification bar down and tap the notification. I then tap the email to read it, exit out and the notification icon goes.
I would add that the number in blue circle sometimes takes a few extra seconds to disappear though.
For info I'm using an unrooted DHD with stock ROM - incidentally I also use Advanced Task Cleaner 2.0, but I doubt that would make any difference in notifications?
I feel for you though as it would really bug me if the notification icon didn't go! I hope you get your issue resolved.
I have now found if I open the email app with the account view I get this problem. If I open it in the hotmail or gmail view then there is no issue.

Screen light up when receiving notifications. How to ?

Does anyone how to get the screen to light up whenever you get notifications I.e. Twitter, text etc ? Is there a app or a setting for this ?
Almost any alternate SMS from the Market can do this, along with the option to disable it. Handcent, ChompSMS..
That's only for sms though. I want it for all notifications.

Messaging App waking lock screen and lack of privacy.

1. Is there any way to prevent the screen from turning on when theres a notification from messaging ?
2. The privacy feature when disabled shows your text message on the lock screen ,Turning it off the message details get turned off in the drop down bar as well.
I noticed they added custom notification tones for ringer and messaging in the contacts app so I want to stop using SMS popup but these things are rather annoying.

[Q] S-View and Default SMS app

With android 4.4 giving the ability to select the default SMS app, could someone with an official s-view cover confirm whether any sms app can give a notification?
On 4.3, the S-View cover would only show an SMS notification if the message was taken through Samsung's messages app.
If kitkat allows you to select your own sms app, could someone confirm if the s-view cover still shows notifications with hangouts handling the sms?
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I couldn't turn up anything in my searches.
Many thanks in advance.

Only shows Samsung's SMS app, Hangouts just has an icon in the corner, I haven't tested any other Apps. So cannot comment on them.

That's disappointing.
Thank you for checking though!
I was hoping Hangouts would work, but figured as this case is made by Samsung they want you to use their app.

[Q] Samsung S-View Flip Cover Case notifications

How to set notification alert for missed call or sms and any other unread notifications on s-view cover screen ?
when i receive sms or miss call , i can't see anything on it unless i open it
Are they all the same or need to have the settings ??
Apparently, we can't. When the cover is closed the phone goes to deep sleep and no app shows notifications (except for the led, which...is covered).
Theres just SMS and Call notifications counter over the s-view cover but if u want to check details need to open the cover
