Speedtests: GS5 on Google Gigabit Fiber and Sprint Spark - Sprint Galaxy S 5 General

GS5 performs really well on Google Gigabit Fiber and Sprint tri-band. I'm getting up to 180Mbps on Google Fiber and around 40Mbps LTE indoors at home, though I'm just a few blocks from a cellsite. The first 3 results are on Google Gigabit Fiber in KC, the second three are Sprint Spark.
BTW, more on Google Fiber here...

I don't understand, isn't google fiber just using your wifi? Do other phones have trouble downloading through your wifi or is the S5 performing differently?

Just showing the max the WiFi on this phone can do. In comparison, a Nexus 7 (2013) can do about 100Mbps, the N7 (2012) and Galaxy S3 and can do about 25-40. I suspect most SnapDragon 801 devices would be over 150Mbps as well, not sure.

Interesting - I've never paid attention to Wifi performance and was not aware performance varied greatly between devices. Thanks for sharing.

Good to know the wifi speeds are that high. This is my fastest speed on band 41 so far

Yeah. I'd crap my pants if I had Google Fiber... Wow.

I wish my phone would actually use band 41. Ive seen Spark speeds a whopping once. The rest of the time I see my awesome 3-4mb down.

Which must be BS because WiFi won't do that fast lol.
These phones MAX at 866Mbps IF you have a AC router and happen to be close enough.
That said, WiFi has roughly 40% overhead so the best you could even imagine to ever see on this phone would be around the 500Mbps mark.
FWIW the speedtest app isn't dead accurate in itself.
It often times shows my speed faster vs. what I know my speed can do because I know exactly what my speed wall is and the upload on the phone generally overshoots it lol.
I'd be hard pressed to see you get gig through dual AC 1300Mbps routers even due to overhead.
They would be close but wired still wins.
I think for the OP the first thing would be what kind of router do you have, what band are you connected on and what was the link rate at time of test?
I bet the phone can do more but your wireless is the limit.

4G speeds?

Here is the story: http://www.androidspin.com/2010/03/17/its-twoo-its-twoo-4g-speed-is-a-reality/
Is it possible to develop and get us rooted users on 4G? I am a little uncertain of what the article is assuming.
i dont believe it but if its true... WOW
Yeah, Im not sure what a developer could do, to piggy back these speeds.
Hmmm.
1.3mbps on 4G? That's it? And which 4G? You mean Sprint's WiMAX? Or someone else's 4G network that has not been built yet?
I'm calling it. Shenanigans.

I am uncertain as well and those sure don't look like 4G speeds to me. However, I think there are hardware limitations that will prevent the N1 or any current phone from taking advantage of 4G. I don't believe it is equipped with the proper antenna and therefore maxed out at 7.2mbps
Interestin, thou by looking at dl speeds its not uncommon for me(I'm in Seattle) to get 1.5-2mb dl speeds, which is significantly faster then my DSL at home: )

i'm in Dallas and i'm getting stellar download speeds on T-Mo 3G, but uploads are a different story (see below). with 4G, would we see higher upload speeds as well???
There is no 4G on T-Mobile, not for a while, and our phones don't do 4G.
I'm not sure I would call 21mbps 4g (whatever that's supposed to mean). Here in Norway there is already a company that has a working LTE-network up and running (although only in the capital) and that has a theoretical top speed of 100mbps. Think the net is limited to 50mbps atm, but I've yet to meet anyone that has bought a modem (no, it's not compatible with current phones).

Significant data speed increase over the last week

I have had a significant better data connection over 3G in the last week. From .6mb to a steady 1.6mb the last few days.
Sprint finally widening bandwidth due to Dan Hesse announcement about sticking with unlimited data and the release of their top notch android phones around the corner?
I think so

As much as I would like to believe that, I doubt it. My speeds vary that much every few days. Whenever I think somethings improved, day or two later I'll be right back at 500-600kbps.
I have also seen an increase in the last 7-10 days. From about 650-700 then to about 1000-1100 now.....

My location was tweaked and upgraded a little over a month ago now.
I've seen this, too, but just on about 1/3 of the places/towers I'm at, and then it varies between 400 and 1.4 down/300 - 600 up. I think they are updating some of the towers, but they'll probably never update the one that I get connected to when I'm at home. ;(
Haven't seen any towers with new hardware on them either. ;(
After seeing this thread, I did some speedtests and looks like they fixed something here in Detroit too. Here's a screenshot of the tests I did this morning. Also, my slingplayer doesn't pause like it used to because data speed was so slow.
i am seeing better data rates as well. Providence, RI
I just checked mine and they are the same as always.... Very very low...
And it doesnt matter which rom I use, its the same across the board. Even the stock rom.
Edit: Those higher speeds were in the AM... Always good in the early morning but the rest of the day the speeds suck.

I got this while at a red light yesterday on 4G of course. But Sprint and Clear have the areas of focus wrong. They have been focusing on roads instead of housing developments and office buildings. It isn't like I can use 4G while driving.

No Flames, just a friendly WiFi speed comparison

Hey, can somebody post a screen with their top speed (wifi) from their phone? I'm curious what real-world performance is between the "42mbps" radios is.
Ps-my home internet is rated at 18meg, so with devices connected, this is probably most of the pipe.

How can you have a WiFI speed test .
Its dependant upon the speed of the users connection and those are many and varied 3meg can be a good connection for some .
Mine is within about 1% next to the router but drops the further i move away .

Not a flame, but what are you talking about?
Wi-Fi has nothing to do with what the "42mbps" radio is. That is HSPA+, and is not in use when Wi-Fi is connected. And it is totally dependent on your carrier, and their APN.
On AT&T, H+ can be different depending on which APN you are on - either "wap.cingular", "phone", or "pta".
If you are connected to Wi-Fi, your speed will be totally dependent on your Wi-Fi connection's speed, and will have nothing to do with the HSPA+ radio or your carrier.
Processor? What I know is this - my Sensation can't pull these numbers over WiFi. I realize that it's not the best test, because it is not cell data. However, I wanted to see what kind of throughput my phone is capable of, and how an S2 does. And yeah, internet speeds differ, but somebody out there has an S2 and WiFi as fast as mine. I suppose my curiosity is more toward "does it utilize it fully" more than "I live by a tower and my cell speed is X" - which seems far more arbitrary to me.

No offense, but this is worse than arbitrary. You have no way of knowing if someone else's Wi-Fi is the same speed as yours, which already makes this "test" invalid.
If you want to know a true comparison between S2 Wi-Fi performance vs Amaze Wi-Fi performance, you'll need the two phones side-by-side hooked up to the same Wi-Fi.

Nexus 7 2013 Slow W-iFi

Hi. So I just got my Nexus 7 2013 version yesterday and I like it so far. But the things is, the Wi-Fi throughput speed I'm getting is much slower than my OG Nexus 7 (I usually get 10Mbps down, but on my new one it's down to 2-3Mbps). My router is the ASUS RT-AC66R with updated firmware, set to Wi-Fi N only. I tried resetting my N7 to the factory condition and still getting slower speed than my OG N7, disconnected all the wi-fi devices except it and I still get 2Mbps (I have a CIR from Comcast for 30mbps) Should I exchange this one for another one?

Doing a bandwidth test over your ISP will be bottlenecked by your ISP's connection. You really need to test by doing a local file transfer over your network.

Anyone with FAST wifi do speed tests?
One of my issues with the S7E is its wifi was much slower than my Note 5.
My iPhone 7+ hits 600+ up and down on our wave2 AC wifi network here.
The S7E had fast LTE though. Fastest speedtest (Verizon) I recall was around 130 down and 50 up. That's smoking for LTE but bad if you don't have unlimited. LOL
