No !
Nobody is going to port to "old" hardware. Everybody wants to sell us new stuff.
And I'm not sure anything currently on the market even has the power for Android (Wear), nevermind whatever checklist of items Google decided compliant devices must have.

Sorry, the Pebble Smart watch isn't powerful enough.
The CPU is an STM32F205RE Cortex M3, the chip can be at best 120Mhz, unsure if the Pebble even has that much, perhaps only 80Mhz.
It has <128Kb of memory and only 1Mb of storage.
Essentially the cpu would need to be >10 times faster with 5-10 times the memory and several thousand times more storage for Android Wear.
That btw doesn't mean that Pebble can't make a good eink Android Wear device, in fact, they should do it. But it will be a completely different and vastly better device compared to their current offering.

Yeah, it needs to have more power in order to do that.

Windows Phone 7.0

http://gizmodo.com/5471805/windows-phone-7-series-everything-is-different-now
As the Gizmodo article says on multitasking:
1. It has the ability.
2. we going to make sure that 3rd parties can bring their value to the user even when the app is not running. Live tiles are an example. Data feeds in the hubs are another example.
Which means that the multitasking will be different from what we know. As an example we now know the task manager and as on XP we now the window is back or minimized. On this only the core of the app will be active and will send the data to another UI (Tile) or to the HUB...
How free this will be??? We will see.
But if they limit it and it's not hackable than I will buy an iphone or Go to android...
They can't build a such strict OS when they have all these different HW platforms that need OEM SW on the BKGRD... How they will solve this??? Not to mention Mobile Phone providers...
So i believe we all panicking without a reason. But it's good in case they had Multitasking off... they have time to turn it on after seeing all these...
Didn't they made a survey??? They only asked iphone user's??? tststs
I don't think they want another VISTA on their Hand's...
Ah well, it'll never work properly on our HD's so we will all need new devices for Win7Mob.
Plus apps from WM 6.1 and 6.5 will not work
wont work?
Hi, I dont see any reason why it wont work on our HD's, there may be performance issues but it should work, you underestimate the power of the XDA cook...!
also, Later reports suggest that all apps will be backward compatible albeit with a UI change.
dont rule out win7 yet...!

The HD doesnt have a capacitative screen, required for Win7Mob. Slow cpu, and slow flash ram under minimum spec again.
I'm sure a light version of 7 could be ported, but it would be so slow, there wouldn't be any point in it.

Yes, that night be a problem for some people, there may be ways around this though, we'll have to wait and see or stick with 6.5

There are a lot of questions that need answered first lol. What processor does it have, first? Also, when you get it, let me know and we can try a few things to test.
Thanks for r quick reply. In tech specification i see hardware MT6577 with procesor armv7 / device mediatec77_ics2

Hi thanks for tipp are you satisfied with your watch? With ones of apps have you tested on it? Have you try to install another cwm or twrp?
Gigs watch (Canadian) is exactly the same as Chinese "(Hopu) EC308" you may find in Aliexpress for as low as USD 213 (free shipping and no tax / custom). Gigs probably buy the EC308 in bulk from China to resell. I cannot find any technical support from Gigs or from China with firmware download.
Vapirious AX2 has the same hardware but it has a different laucher ("Windows 8" like). I also cannot find any support page with firmware download (www.watchmobilephone.com).
I watched videos and read one review (in Italian) on the AX2. It appears to have Google Play store. I also watched two short videos on the EC308, but I did not see any Google Play store. I read that even with Play store, many apps do not work (or work properly) in these smart watches because of the extremely low screen resolution.
If there is no Play store, it may be possible to sideload and install Android apps manually using ADB (enable "USB Debug"). I read that you can certainly do this with the Sony SmartWatch. You may need to find the USB driver for the watch in order to do this.
Good day.
I have SmartWatch SW308 on my hand
Play store is installed and work fine from a box. Many apps from Play Store is not support resolution 240*240 => the application does not fit on the screen.
Battery is very small, and now I trying to improve standby time in my other theme here - SmartWatch PS-SW308 - MTK6517 energy saving - with support from Lokifish Marz.
Please help me to gain root
Where I can get eroot one click tool?

I disable all but phone and BT for headset. Battery is very poor.
Every nigth its power off by sheduler (23:00 - 7:00).
Battery life is 1,5 days. I tried to change Launcher... but my skills is low, and it's unsuccessfull.
I think only ROM developer can help us to improve energy saving.

for me is just a very early smartwatch 2.0. Just take it like a some kind of prototype. If you want a really good smartwatch than bought Omate Truesmart from kickstarter project or new one Neptune Pine if you want have a standalone device. Or try Samsung Gear, he have just reached a new custom ROM.

[Q] Wear on a phone

Is it feasible to build an Android Wear ROM for a phone? Not to be used as a phone, but more of a desktop clock with all the functionality of Wear.
This may sound like an odd thing to want, but I think it would be a nicety.

Set up a build environment and downloaded the source last night. I'll be attempting to find out. I'll report back as I go.
That is a great freaking idea, I would have never thought to do that with a spare phone. We all have one right? I have an HTC one m7 that this would be a great use for. I was just going to turn it into a remote.

I can't see this as being stable if it's possible. Even Android Studio sets up wear app XML at 320x320. Everything would be incredibly blurry and out of proportion. Only a select amount of faces would look decent, and even then, you may have issues with Bluetooth pairing.

The intent wouldn't be for it to use cellular or WiFi. It would connect to your actual phone via Bluetooth like a watch.
Modify the xmls enough and you can do this. Android Wear is android, remember that, it does support data, wifi and bt out of the box. Companies don't enable it it or use it because you have your phone to act as a parent device. The resolution can also be changed, but I don't know how that will change UI elements.

Google Pixel as LightPhone 2 (distraction free but functional smartphone)

I've always liked the core idea of the LightPhone 2.
A phone that has less distraction but is not a total feature phone.
The Lightphone 2 is great and all but mainly the price is what really turns me off.
A few other cons are lack of e-hailing apps(atleast in my country, e-hailing service like Grab and Uber are much cheaper than Taxi), lack of choice in messaging system(I'm not trying to live near off the grid here) and no camera(that can be actually used for taking pictures of receipt or scanning a document(I live in a between a first world and third world country)) .
I think that the Pixel is a suitable quick replacement for it.
It's just very cheap at this point.
The OLED display just makes sense to use a total minimalist white on black UI (yes I do realize the Lightphone uses E-ink but compared with an LCD based phone OLED just makes sense)
The Pixel has a bad processor intensive task, it will overheat doing nothing. Underclocking it would still be way faster than a Lightphone 2 and would still serve its purpose
and many more
...but only if there is a ROM built for that.
And for that I want to ask any experts here is it possible to just stripdown the Android 10 rom, mod the launcher for the UI, tweak how the notification works to achieve the above?
Did anyone ever make a ROM for this?

No, I think there are there already Blloc OS but its still not good enough for me... There is also the LightPhone 2 which is crazy because its really pricey but still doesn't hit the right spot for me still...
Recently I bought the Nokia 6300 4G which is great for detox but still want that Whatsapp feature but there are other few importants things that I still cant do
I'm already planning on taking a used up Pixel and creating a rom myself

unfortunately no... the CLOSEST and most BUDGET I've seen so far is the Qin F21 Pro and its variant. It has a small touchscreen so you won't be sucked in as much, the non google play version(you can install apk but its very tedious to sideload an apk via usb).
I still think the best way is if a dev suddenly want to make a Lightphone OS style custom rom for a Pixel

ah I've actually used a variant of the KaiOS phone the Nokia 6300 phone but I find its too still too limiting for my use, others might be fine with that

Really wondering about my chineese head unit

Hello All,
I might ask something stupid now, but I know from the past people generally are very helpful here.
I concider myself handy enough with androif (phones!) but since I had someone building in a android head unit,..
The first one had all kinf of bugs, but atleast I could use a launcher i liked myself,.
But, due all the bugs they replaced it. looking good, but...they, to start with, blocked the launcher. or well. I can install it. I can set in settings the standard launcher, but somehow it always comes back in the main layout. "BC LAUNCHER"I think it is.
The controls mainly go trough a partly transparant circle on your screen, giving a home button, page back etc.
When I use the launcher, somehow I miss, for instance, a go back button somewhere. So have to use that little circle again, And you guess it; returning me to the main layout.
So..was thinking; I install an other rom. But! This android unit also operates my standard car functions, such as satnav, some settings of thecar etc.
So,. basically, they fitted the android in between the Mercedes system. Really not what I want (if android fails, all fails!) but only thing I can do about it is have all removed. And I really use it a lot.
I believe the system runs on android 9.
So. If I would find a Rom;
I looked into the info of the system, but at MCU I find some custom MB line. Not what I would exopect.
I realise my info I am giving is quite limited, but rather hear where to find the correct info then drop all kind of non relevant data here.
How large would be the risk that the communication with the car goes wrong? Or is this a seperate part?
I hope I make sense!
I managed to figure out the specs, see pics.
But now what? Suuplier claims its for sure Android 9,that all works as supposed (can't even control Spotify with the car buttons), and that e. G the laucher are 'experiments that he doesn't support.'
Supplier has zero knowledge of android.

Sorry for kicking this older post but i have the same problem... I am desperately searching for options with my new android based head unit mine is a MT8988 with android 10 installed in a W204 MOPF MB.
These are the specs...
You bought, just like I did, a fake unit. Run an app that will tell you the REAL specs.. You'll probably find its android 7 or 8.
You probably still have a little box with these systen? That's old anyway. All modern (android 10)systems have only a screen where all is in.
I took mine out, sold it, and bought a real android 10 unit, that allows me to do anything. It works like a charm!

There is an other app that is slightly better to show the specs, but I can't remember. Anyway, android 9 is not bad (not what you bought though..)
Can you use a launcher and make thar work? Mostly these units with fake specs are locked for a lot of things.
