usb 3.0 on otg - GiONEE Elife E7

Hello guys so here is the issue
None of the usb 3.0 device seems to work In otg mode(all usb 3.0 devices are reverse compatible to usb 2.0) i plugged my 500gb hdd with externa power then a 16 gb usb 3.0 pendrive with no success as soon as the device get recognised i see usb safe to remove notification and then no udisk in explorer.
I seriously need a solution as all my usb devices are usb 3.0
Also when the hardware is capablr of usb 3.0 why did gionee crippled it to usb2.0 only?

Usb 3.0 port differs from 2.0 see the usb port of note 3 so it might be a problem to include it....since some HDD consume more power they will not work..ive tried with OTG and a trancend usb 3.0 8gb pendrive and it worked flawlessly

yeah i know the port differs but since the soc is same i think we can solder a usb 3.0 with some tweaking. anyways i provided hdd with esternal power with the help of a cable i modified. also did you tried any 16gb pendrive? i think size may have been a problem too?
also pls can you try an external hddso that i woud be certain that this is not a issue with my phone only. thanks in advance
anybody else getting same issue? (notification saying usb safe to remove..)

All you have to do is install Paragon NTFS & HFS+ on your phone & grant it superuser permission. Now use ES File Explorer to go to the /mount directory & you will find your hard disk partition there.
Sometimes you may get an error while trying to access the files in the secondary partitions. For this issue you will have to manually unmount those partitions in Paragon app and mount them to a location of your choice.
Hope this helps.

[Q] acer a500 usb host problem

hi, i recently bought this tablet. the usb (full size port) used to mount usb drives, sd cards in cameras etc and the files could be seen on the device. of late, it seems the port does not mount any device, but provides power to it(thumb drive light flashes, phone charges). the file manager( file manager hd) shows "directory empty" when i connect a usb drive and choose it. please provide me with a solution. i tried rooting and un rooting the device but the problem presists. i tried enabling and disabling usb debugging but got no results. please help.
Try grabbing USB Mount All from the market. That should fix your issues.
Chlballi
Try using "USB Mount All v.1.3" available on the Marketplace. However your device will lneed to be rooted to use it.
may i know as to what is a usb mount? the iconia a500 already has a full size usb port.
got it, trying it out now.
thanks a lot. working like a charm
sorry double post.
seems I have the same problem.
My acer wont recognise any of my drives but it will power them.
I've tried usb mount all but it doesn't help.
I'm running the virtuous 1.4rom
Any help appreciated.

3.2 does not support USB thumb/flash drive

I just updated my US Xoom WiFi to 3.2. The SD card is working fine and it is shown under mnt\external1. However, I still cannot access my USB thumb/flash drive even I have a Motorola OTG adapter. Looks like 3.2 does not support USB thumb/flash drive. Any suggestions? Or I have to root it and install a custom kernel to make it work? Thanks.
I'm wondering the same thing. Will have to flash another kernel...
Who uses thumbdrives and USB discs these days anyway?
Uhm, everyone?
USB thumb drives and external drives are supported fine on 3.2, download USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG from Market
follow the quick guide and all works great.

I understand, but I mean on stock 3.2 without root, which the OTG app needs.
Or did you got it working without root?
my xoom is rooted, i am not sure of any USB OTG apps that work without root. I will do some research.
After updating to 3.2 with root, I tried USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG and first it complained about an old version of busybox , then after it updated busybox, it would just FC when I plugged in a flash drive.
I wonder what is the reason that 3.2 still does not support USB mass storage. I wish this will be addressed soon.
If it is any consolation to you, my 3g Telstra xoom on 3.1 with sd card support and usb enabled still doesn't work unless i have an OTG cable and USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG. Usb works fine for mice etc without usb mass storage watcher.

Guide to Xoom USB host with external storage

I use this USB host cable and it works great. Have tested it with my 750gb Oyen and 320gb WD Passport external HDD's, several usb flash drives (8-16gb), San disk USB memory card reader, and a USB keyboard.
For those having issues getting their Xoom to recognize USB storage devices here's what I've got and did to get it to work: I flashed my XOOM (3.1) to the 2.6.36.4 Tiamat_Xoom-v1.4.4-Full_Throttle Kernel and was unable to get the USBMount to recognize drives or storage at first. I installed USB Mass Storage Watcher from the market (it's free) and it works awesome! Can mount any storage I want (NTFS, FAT16/32, HFS, HFS+, EXT2, ETX3, EXT4) with any capacity. I think this app will work with any rooted Xoom (or other devices). Under my Kernel my USB host is located under/usbOTG.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your post, im having trouble getting my Wifi Xoom usb host to work, i have tried making a cable from the tutorials around here and i have also bought an OTG cable but didn't get any luck having it working, im on HC 3.2 Tiamat 2.1.0 Tachi stock GPU , i tried installing busybox - OTG watcher - Drive Mount etc. and followed all kind of guides in the forum and on google with no luck, i tried usb mice , more than 6 flash drives, usb 3g dongles and other devices without any indication of any kind of connection or powering up, so most probably the problem would be from the cable...as i ordered xoom usb otg cables from ebay and until i receive them i was wondering if there might be anything i was missing?

Sounds like your cable is not OTG. A lot of them are not. Try it again with your Moto cable when it comes. Also, try rebooting with the cable and drive plugged in, with OTG Watcher running. That has worked for me in the past.
Xoom 3G, stock FW 3.2, non rooted and ot cable
So - just installed USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG - https://market.android.com/details?i...tcherotg&hl=pl
Pendrive is recognized by the program immediately and displays the mount point /dev/block/sda - but unfortunately the next value is 0MB. And this is like that on every pendrive. Do I need root to mount it, or do you have any other idea to mount my pendrive without root?

You do need root to mount the drive-to use Xoom in USB Host Mode.
Only root? Is that all that needs to be done?

You need a kernel or rom that supports OTG. Tiamat Odachi kernel, Moray rom, the 4G rom, and the Rogue Rana kernel should all support usb host mode. You will also need a real otg cable and probably an app that helps you mount the drive, such as USB Mount All or Drive Mount.

Just tried with a genuine motorola OTG cable, which works with the same stick because I used it for upgrading my UK one to US ICS 4.0.3, and it doesn't work without rooting. I still can't root mine yet because my micro SD card for backup hasn't come!

You got it to work using that USB adapter? That's not a USB OTG adapter. It really shouldnt work using that one.

Reboot loop after trying to get external USB to work
My Xoom WiFi running Team EOS build 102 would not see my USB drives. I installed 'USB Mass Storage Watcher' from the market. This app then prompted me to install the OTG version. I followed instruction and removed original version before install the OTG version. The OTG version also prompted me to down load another version of Busy Box, which I did.
I could then see one of my USB (see size and space used), but could not see files or folders in the mount location. I restarted my Xoom (I live in a windows world and reboot fixes a lot of issues LOL), Xoom got stuck in reboot loop. I went into recovery mode and clear my Dalvik, but this had no effect on reboot loop.
Luck for me I had a Nandroid backup from 2 days earlier (pheew). Restored this and back to normal.
Not sure if anyone has had this problem, but I strongly recommended making nandroid backup before doing any device driver updates.
No Prob...
im on the same software version as u, i connected usb drives, mouse and keyboard without any problems, just wanted to let u kno

[Q] USB OTG question

I have the international version of the LG G2 32gb. Stock rooted with exposed framework, one or two navbar/statusbar modules installed.
I have tried a small 4gb usb drive and the G2 recognises it just fine. I have nothing bigger except for an old (perfectly working) 100gb usb external hard disk drive ntfs format. it doesn't rely on any power. USB cable from PC powers it just fine.
So when I connect this drive via USB OTG, my G2 simply doesn't see it. I've waited more than half hour to see if it is performing a media scan silently but it still doesn't show on any of my file explorers such solid and root explorer and stock one ofcourse.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Is it because it is an external hdd?
Is it because the phone can't power it on its own?
Is it that it can read only smaller cards less than 100gb? I don't have access to anything else to test.
Is USB OTG supported in aosp roms like pac man?
Thanks guys.

NTFS
That's your problem friend... Format it to FAT32 or root and use this
Cheers!
Really? Wow, I'm gonna have to transfer all those files from the hard drive first and then format right? I hope my G2 would recognise it then. I'll post an update soon as I can get my hands on another HDD to back up to before format.
Thanks.

The only thing is, my other small USB drive which did work via USB OTG is also NTFS format. Why would this work and not the larger capacity external HDD?

Are you 100% certain the other one is NTFS?
Android is not NTFS compatible out of the box (unless rooted).
Cheers!
Yes I'm sure. The 4gb USB stick that works over otg cable is actually what I used to create a quick recovery drive of my win8 laptop as soon as I unboxed it. Win8 requires the flash drive to be NTFS for the recovery image to be created. So I did as it asked and formated and it produced the recovery drive on it.
I now connect it to my G2 and it recognises the flash drive and it shows the contents as recovery files for windows.

Tldr both drives are NTFS format.

[Q] I can't mount a OTG connected USB stick to my note any more3

Hi
Somehow when i connect a 16GB USB stick to my note 3 via an OTG cable it shows
1. USB connector connected
2. USB mass storage connected
then immediately
3. USB mass storage removed safely
so i cannot see anything from my USB device connected via an OTG cable
for instance my 16GB sandisk USB stick is not mounted anymore
it used to work with 4.3.xxx but not with the latest update of 4.4.xxx
also Air Droid can't write anymore so it's useless
my USB stick is ntfs formatted, would that be an issue?
i have Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ installed but it says it has no root access, i have the stock rom and not rooted. it used to work with 4.3 but now with 4.4 it does not work any more
thank you

NTFS will not work on android. Format your usb to exFat or fat32, or read this
http://blogs.bu.edu/mhirsch/2013/12...r-sharing-usb-flash-thumb-drives-and-usb-hdd/
actually i cannot format my flash, it's full and i don't want to loose the data
thanks anyway
Erhm copy files to PC,format stick and copy back The files?
Respect!
thanks, that would work if i'd had a computer with me. i'm away from home and was hoping i can mount my usb stick. is there a solution that does not require root access?

Not that i know of.
You can try to install the USB Host Diagnostics and check what is happening, on this app the root is optional.
i have no doubt that the USB works but the ntfs file system cannot be mounted directly by the OS so it unmounts it immediately after connection.
so my question still remains, is there a way to mount an ntfs file system without having root access?
thanks
