Notification drawer will not drag down - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

BTW, this is on stock 4.2.2 on a D801 with no root.
I had been having a problem where my notification drawer would not pull down. At first, it wouldn't pull down at all. Then it would only pull down when I pulled from the very far left side of the notification bar. Then it would work if I was on the left half of the notification bar. Then only the left 25%. I tried rebooting several times, no luck. I switched to the marshmallow theme and all of a sudden it started working. I switched back to the standard theme, and it went back to the broken behavior.
I searched and searched and didn't find anyone else with these exact symptoms. I thought I'd have to factory reset to get this working again.
Fortunately, I was able to resolve the problem. Open system settings/general/apps, select the all apps tab, and scroll down to Home. Select it, and press the clear cache button. Now my notification bar can be pulled down from anywhere across the top of the screen.
I'm posting here in case anyone else ever runs into this problem in the future. I'm not sure what caused it. The touchscreen on that part of the screen was definitely working, because if I pulled down the drawer from the left side, then dragged my thumb down, right, and up, the screen was definitely responding to my finger moving around the very top of the screen on the right side. Something was causing the display not to pull down the notification drawer when I started from the right side.

I just started having this problem on my LG G2 (Resurrection Remix LPv.5.4.6). At first I could drag down just by pulling from the top of the screen. Then, over time, it started to only work in the upper left corner. Now I can't pull the quick-settings area down in Portrait mode. It does work in Landscape view. It also works on the lock screen in Portrait mode: just drag down from the top-middle of the screen and the quick-setting area comes down.
I enabled the show touch feature in developers options and took these pictures showing that (A) the status/notification area is: (A) not receiving input in Portrait mode during normal use; and (B) is receiving input in Portrait mode on the lockscreen.

I am using the Nova launcher, but I tried Trebuchet, Google, and KK -- none fixed it. I also tried to remove my wallpaper.
The suggestion in the first post does not work as there is no "Home" in Settings>General>Apps>All Apps:

UPDATE: I did a factory reset and reinstalled my ROM. The problem persists. It is definitely NOT the hardware sensors, because that section of the screen DOES WORK on the lock screen.
My best guess right now is that it is something in the stock Gapps (I used micro). I had thought that it might be the Nova Launcher, but I tried other launchers and the problem remained.
Also, this issue seems to creep up around the internet, independent of the phone (see here, here, here, and here).
I am hoping a developer on these pages sees this and can deduce from the symptoms what is causing the status bar (i.e., that top 1/4 inch of the screen) to not receive any input. It seems like something (wallpaper?; launcher?; status bar modification?) is causing the input to not compute.
Please . . . help.....

This problem just hit me too. XPeria T, CM12, also used "show touch" option and it stops respondingon identical part as yours.
I've read somewhere the problem was fixed by installing brand new digitizer, even though I have no intention of replacing it as the phone itself is ****ty...
This is my third or fourth disappointment in android devices and also my last. I'm moving back to button phones as I'm not expecting iPhones to be even near androids.
It was fun using CM12 while it lasted though...
Also, let me bring your attention to one things please:
You said your drawer can be pulled while in the lock screen, but while in the lock screen, my notification drawer can actually be pulled from anywhere on the screen, all I have to do is double swipe down. So I think your digitizer is damaged aswell, but the lock screen function probably fooled you.

I don't have enough the home app on the rom I'm running so that fix won't work. Had anyone found a fix for this?

Magnetic landscape sensor

Does anyone know if there's a utility or registry hack to disable the magnetic landscape sensor in the Hermes? I really don't want it to flip to landscape mode every time I put it in the case, because then there's that added delay to switch back to portrait when I pull it out to use it. If it makes a difference, I'm using the official HTC WM6 ROM.
Thanks,

Magnetic landscape sensor? WTH?
As far as I know the only way screen rotates is when you pull the keyboard open or when you force it software-wise. There is no magnetic sensor or anything like that.

The magnetic sensor is the bit inside that recognises when the keyboard is open.
I used to have the problem where the screen would flip every time I put it in the case. Eventually mentioned it to my wife and she asked me if I tried putting the phone in the other way round. Tried it with the screen facing the buckle rather than the flap - and it's never been a problem since! She's a genius is my wife!
Not quite the answer you're after, but a workable work-around.
Just so we know what we're all talking about:

Oh and I'm not aware of a registry entry that will disable the rotation, or an application that will toggle it on/off - only ones that toggle portrait or landscape. Theoretically then, you could disable the sensor and use a software app. to rotate the screen.
Mike
So let me see if I'm on the same page here. The sensor used to detect whether the keyboard is open or not is a magnetic sensor. The stock carrying case shipped by HTC uses two (relatively) large magnets to hold the flap closed, which just happens to trip the keyboard sensor, causing the device to think the keyboard is open.
That seems like a bit of an oversight on HTC's part. I thought it was a "feature" like most RIM's where a magnet in the holster will turn off the screen when you put it away. I'll admit it did always seem odd to me that the behaviour would be landscape and not turn off the damn screen
I guess the best solution until I find a better case is to do as Stu's wife suggested.
Thanks guys

FINALLY... WHAT YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR

I've come to notice that no one REALLY knew how to fully disable screen rotation on WM devices.
Some offered 3rd party apps to get the job done, some only knew how to disable automatic rotation, but when the device went into standby and woke up again - the screen rotated back. So that didnt really work.
So if you're as desperate as i was about screen rotation,
this is what you need to do:
1. Get dotfred's free taskmanager HERE, and run it.
2. Go to "Devices" tab, and look for "MIS1:" device (oem_misc.dll)
3. Long-Tap on it, and tap on "Stop"
4. Long-Tap on it again, and now choose "Set Manual"
5. Go to "Notifications" tab, and look for "Notifications\NamedEvents\VCPowerWakeupEvent"
6. Tap on it to make it selected
7. Disable it
(In dotfred's taskmanager, there should be a button for disabling it, but for some reason some devices couldn't see the button icons, although the buttons are still clickable. Under the notifications list there is an empty light-blue line - the buttons are there, eventough you can't see them.
The disable buttons is somewhere i the middle of that light-blue line, just tap the center until a message box popps up and asks if you'd like to disable this notification - Tap on yes.)All those steps are a one time deal - they stick even after an SR.
This has been tested on htc universal and works great.
The screen will keep its orientation even if you flip your screen, take out your built in keyboard, or turn the device off and back on.
The only time your screen will revert back to the original orientation is when you soft reset your device.
Hope this helps

It would be nice if it had an orientation sensor...I'd love to have it go Landscape whenever I held it sideways, I don't always want to open the keyboard when I'm reading....
you'd need a built in gyroscope for that..

[NO ROOT] No navbar | Pie controls - Free your screen and prevent burn-ins

Don't you hate the navbar?
Isn't it way to big and destroys look of the beautiful big screen?
And what about burn-ins?
There's a simple solution.
Completely hide the navbar and use PIE instead.
And it even makes one hand usage easier. Especially for S8+.
You no longer have to try to reach the statusbar or the back or recents button - doesn't matter on which hand you hold the phone.

Info:
This is a no-root solution. This won't trip knox nor will you loose your phones guarantee.
Anyway, all these steps are described as is and everything you do is on your own risk.
Don't blame me if anything goes wrong. But there isn't anything risky at all, so you should be safe.
Step-by-step guide:
Go to PlayStore and download Shortcutter Quick Settings and Pie Control
Go into Android settings and select developer settings at the very bottom (if you don't have it, do the steps described here)
Activate USB-Debugging
Make sure ADB and the needed drivers are installed on your computer. If not, do the 15 seconds installation described here.
Connect your phone to your computer and approve/allow all dialogs coming up on your phone.
Open CMD on your computer and write in the following 'adb shell pm grant com.leedroid.shortcutter android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS' (without asterics)
Wait few seconds. Then you can disconnect your phone again from your computer.
Open the app "Pie Control" you installed before on your phone and select 'Side'.
Activate the option 'ENABLE SIDE AREA' on the top using the slider
Click on the 'Level 1' tab and remove all entries there using the recycle bin icon.
Click on the first entry on Button 1, 2 and 3 and add the navigation buttons ('Tools' > 'Home' / 'Back' / 'Recent apps')
You should now be able to slide from both edges of the screen and the PIE controls with the three important buttons ('Home' / 'Back' / 'Recent apps') should come up
(You might want to change the settings on the 'Level 2' tab as well. I set them to 'Volume control', 'Camera', and 'Notification', which brings up the notification bar)
Next we need to get rid of the navigation bar.
Open the app "Shortcutter Quick Settings" you installed before on your phone and activate the very first option 'Security settings'.
Swipe right and activate "Immersive" (you might deactivate all the others if you don't need them).
Swipe down the status/notification bar with two fingers so that the quick setting tiles come up.
Tap on the three dots on the top right and select the first option.
Drag&drop the 'Immersive' tile from the bottom to the top setting tiles.
Tap on Done on the top right.
Now click on the 'Immersive' tile and then select the last option 'NO NAV'.
We're done!
Here some pictures how some apps look like after these steps and how PIE looks like.
Enjoy!
You do know that the soft keys move to prevent burn in right?
Big fan of pie control though can't live without it!
Sent from my SM-G955U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Is there still the bug, that keyboard won't show up when navbar is in immersive mode?
No need to scaremonger about burn in (which won't happen by the way), this thread can stand on it's own two feet as pie controls are pretty cool.
People are already complaining about navbar burn ins on reddit, xda, ... and there are also pictures showing the burn-ins.
So there's a reason to worry about it, sadly.
But as @Jonathan-H wrote, Pie on such a big screen looks awesome.
@Bautinho88 yes, the bug happens only when the notification bar is hidden. When hiding only the navbar this doesn't happen.
I think it is funny how a small change can make peeps freak out. Ever consider the top status bar and the static info up there? No burn-in.... It is dynamically the same as the nav bar... It will be ok peeps. Pie control is sweet though!

Usually you click it once and it's gone for good.
Some apps still don't display correctly such as Microsoft Remote Desktop when you tap for entire screen.
Pretty annoying really
Add me to the list of people who find this really irritating! I get it on all my (Nova Launcher) home screens, and in a selection of apps (haven't figured out yet why some apps show it and others don't).
Subscribing to the thread in the hope that somebody will figure out a way to make it go away!
This is quite simple actually:
Go to Settings, then display, then full screen and then toggle all apps to full screen and, voila!

The ones that are greyed out are system installed apps...do not worry about these. Scroll down and you will see the ones you need to change.

But I don't want the apps full screen, and I have actually toggled them all to OFF in that setting.
Hence I'm annoyed at constantly getting a useless message on my screen.

I am not worried about those... Again some apps do not display correctly in full screen so therefore I don't want to place them in full screen but instead I'm pestered to do it, what was wrong with the bubble notification that came up before?
tap here to fill entire screen
same problem with google phone dialer as it doesnt support full screen...plz help..!how to get rid of tap here to fill entire screen.
For me it just disappears after a minute. For example kodi get stretched if using fullscreen and if I disable fullscreen it disappears.
hope that somebody found the solution
It only appears at new installed apps that are opend for the first time.. after clicking it it never reappears

Yes, this is definitley annoying to be constantly there, and for video apps that aren't optimized for full screen. Like MLB At Bat games are shifted to the left side of the screen with one black bar on the right and it just looks weird. I'd rather have black bars on both sides or at least be able to stretch it out to full screen.

I think the problem is that some apps will not show correctly in full screen mode so anytime I use the app in normal mode there will be a line show " Tap here to fill the entire screen "
Add me also here !!! so annoyed ! !
Add me too
So I am having this issue in Chrome which essentially gives you no back button when browsing. How stupid. So I just figured out that if I scroll to the bottom of a sight, sort of like the opposite of dragging a screen down to refresh, you drag it up from the bottom and you get a black semi circle thing show up. Click on it somehow while it appears and then you get the menu back, but it says double click the dot on the left to make it locked in.
And... it seems to have fixed it across all of my apps, not just Chrome! That's all I have for now.. hope it helps

Tryimg to disable fullscreen apps

While I'm glad that Samsung has decided by themselves that my games need to run in fullscreen, I have text and buttons scrolling off the screen I can barely get to, or can't read at all because of this. How do I disable this and get my games back? When I go into the display settings, the apps are greyed out and do not give me an option to shut this off.

Hey there,
Another way to disable fullscreen is to press the all apps button in the nav bar and then that small black button you can see in the screenshot. That disable fullscreen for me. But keep in mind that there are apps that automatically change to fullscreen because they are optimized for that.
Hppe that helped you out.
Which games do you mean especially?
Then i could try it myself

Sorry, I tried to attach a screenshot last night and I don't know why it didn't work. I shall try again here, but when I choose the All Apps sort, I have no black button anywhere except the bottom left of the screen which hides the navigation bar from the settings screen, but does nothing for my games. Also, yes, as you mentioned, this is one of those games that Samsung wants to say is "optimized" and disables the option for me to turn it off. Been playing this game for about a year(?) and this did not happen until about a week ago. WWE Champions is the name. You can see the titles in each section being cropped off and you kind of make out a button to the right of "Expedition", or "Xpedition" on my screen that is almost completely hidden.

Ok i have the same pronlem with the game.
I forgot to attach the screenshot in my first response.
I'll attach it now that you know what i actually meant.
You could try to contact the support and tell them the game is not correvtly sized.
If you are rooted you can try to edit your screen resolution so that the game could(don't know if that would even works)
Sorry i couldn't help more
I appreciate the help, but, yeah, I have had complaints about Samsung's Game Tools ever since I've owned this phone and this will likely be my last Samsung phone if I can help it. Was so much happier with my old Nexus 6P stock Android.
Hey, I have the exact same problem.
I've updated to Android 9 with my S9+ Yesterday and then I found out that the WWE SuperCard game is stretched because of this problem. The system thinks it's optimized for the screen but it isn't.
Is there any solution for this problem?
Android 9 sucks! Trash ! Rubbish !
Prefer 8.1 Oreo
I think it primarily turned out to be a developer issue. Their code was causing it to look bad until they patched it. I gave up on the game eventually, but I also ditched my S8+. Went with the Pixel 3 XL and couldn't be happier.
So, did it get solved??
I have the same problem with WOT Blitz. I cannot play the game anymore. Since updating to Android 9, the system says the game is optimised for full screen, which it is not, so I cannot see the entire screen and buttons moved to the side. Did anyone find a solution in the end?
Like I just mentioned before, it's very likely a developer issue versus the phone. They will likely have to release a patch, but I just got tired of dealing with it. Have had zero problems with the Pixel 3 XL and never going back to Samsung.
Yes!!! Away with spamsung from the earth!!!
Spammy should be banne, ssued and shut down by now!!!

Help - Screen goes black after bootup.

Hi Guys,
Im looking for some help on a strange issue. Ill try to provide some history.
I had a P10 plus and everything was going great then after about 6 months it would periodically just reboot as i was using it. I did think much of it as it could be an app bug. Then i was using it one day and it turned off when it rebooted the loading "hauwei" and associated boot-up animation has a purple/pink tinge to the screen. See pics attached. The phone loaded fine as normal when arriving at the home screen the again the whole display had this color tinge to it. Strangely whenever i launched any app the screen would go black. The phone would be working as i would here notifications etc and the home button would return me to the home screen but i would need to reboot. same result after reboot.
I thought i would try a factory reset to try to resolve it and now the bootup screen it the same ( pink tinge) however now it loads to a black screen. I assume it the the initial setup screen as i can here things happening when i touch the screen but cant see.
The fact i see the loading screen and the screen its responsive make me think it it not a screen issue. Also it is strange the device loaded but only went black when launching an app. Also device appears to be working behind the black screen as I can here volume up/down tone and notifications etc.
Could this be a motherboard issue?
Thanks

After doing some digging it seems i can't upload images as i am new. Whilst i understand this is to stop people just leeching i also disagree with it in situations that a user could have found a potential issue that could be affecting a lot of other. By not allowing to upload images of what they have experienced other cant be sure it is the same issue. If anything it just encourages people to go and make posts about arbitrary topics to increase their post count. More than likely if wont be helpful. Any how i appreciate communities like this so ill persevere and hopefully get my images uploaded sometime soon.
Thanks
